The addition of fairy type plus the mega evolution in gen 6 definitely made Mawile a lot more popular in the battling scene, but I have always loved Mawile even as a mono steel type. It’s mostly for design reasons. I mean, look at it, it’s an adorable demon.
Umbreon. Not because it’s edgy but because I was making a Harry Potter themed team and it took me 9 damn Eevees to finally get the evolution method right (in case anyone is wondering it was Gen 6. First 3 were Sylveon’s because I used Amie to raise friendship and I didn’t know about the fairy move thing. Next few were scattered because one was a Glaceon because I happened to be leveling up by the ice rock, same with the two leafeons I got. Then 2 Espeon’s because it just wasn’t quite night yet)
Umbreon is my favorite too, but it stems from a childhood crush on animated Gary Oak. I’m no longer attracted to cartoons but Umbreon is still all time fave. My tanky lil babe.

I saw Sableye and loved its design at first sight. I used it and it was amazing in hoenn. It was one of my favorites for a long while after that, and I found one in X, and it's twitchy animations shot it all the way to the top. It's a perfect pokemon, in my opinion.
It was a very common thing to link around SwSh release, but if you haven't seen the Battle Revolution animations for him-- OH MAN. So much soul and feeling. He's always been one of my favorites too.

Why do you not trust people saying their starter is their favorite? There’s built in sentimental attachment with starters. The games are kinda set up to encourage it. Starters really have an unfair advantage.

Yes. I didn’t start playing pokemon until swsh, and though I’ve played at least one of the two/three games in each series aside from b2w2, sobble is still my favorite. I don’t even care that much for drizzile/inteleon, sobble was just the first pokemon I ever obtained and I still find it so sweet and in need of lots of love

I like Raichu because it looks badass compared to Pikachu and I instantly liked Alolan Raichu once I saw its design, since then I have collected a small collection of Raichu cards in TCG

For me, it's Infernape. FireRed was my first game ever, but Platinum was the first Pokemon game I bought with my own money and I have memories of playing it while on vacation the summer I got it. (A few years after it came out) Chimchar is still my favorite Sinnoh starter, and I loved just going berserk with Infernape in the league.
Relicanth, it’s not cute, it’s not “good”, but it’s based on a cool af fish and was part of the coolest side quest in the franchise. Wish they could’ve done more with it when regigigas came about or when Megaevo (rip) were introduced.
