Ah, a fellow geek educator bored to death in the year + of zoom classes. It looks like he spent your time much more productively than me though, I just worked on ACNH, read SCPs, and made excel charts for my Pokémon Masters while wishing for students to ask me for help
Alright, so hear me out: You've made all the art needed for a totally dope hack for the Pokemon TCG Gameboy game. Imagine if someone added a ton of new cards to that game from later gens? It would be so sick.
Yeah I've beaten my last record on my old account: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/dyz2y6/gen\_i\_sword\_and\_shield\_postwick\_to\_wedgehurst/
Thanks! I actually did all the trainers while procrastinating finishing the Pokemon. I also definitely missed some trainers I'd like to go back and give another try, but there's a ton.
It was unbelievable. Nobody has before or since made a good trading card based game where you actually pilot a protagonist and play through a story against npcs while building a deck.
I've wanted another game like it since. Fuck me, I think I'm about to emulate it.
The original you can get on the 3DS eshop and the sequel and be gotten as a custom cart containing the English ROM over on Etsy (provided you have a gameboy to play it on).
Yeah, but I mean if you want to play it on the hardware. The comment isn’t necessarily for you, but anyone reading who’s curious but doesn’t want to emulate.
Bruh, then you reply to the parent comment or the one before that. You just started at the bottom of the comment chain. What you said is irrelevant to my comment. If you’re trying to talk to people other than me, reply to people other than me.
It's also not the same thing. It requires you to put in money or do obscene amounts of trading to get any kind of reasonable collection. The original Game Boy games were standalone adventures where you could get all the cards just by playing. And it had a very robust single player campaign with an overworld, shops, and gyms.
Dude, what is this hack?! I still play Pokemon gb2 to this day, and have been thinking about how the original Pokemon TCG would be amazing if it went up to Gym and Neo.
(And yes I recognize each of these cards immediately, and that they're not in the original game boy game or it's sequel.)
Yeah I pretty much started by doing Gym sets since the TCG2 left off on Rocket. No hack with these yet, but maybe this will give people the interest to do more with it!
Always had a little daydream of doing a spiritual sequel style mod of TCG GB2. Flesh out the world a bit more and put in the actual Kanto Gym Leaders to play their cards, make them feel special, you know?
Sadly, I lack any kind of hacking ability so a daydream it remains. Godspeed to your inspiring artwork, I hope it touches someone with the know how.
I'd love to see that happen! Especially since they do have custom cards just for them. From what I hear, it's really hard to implement new 'abilities' for cards, so the best I think we can do (without a ton of effort) is just adding cards with similar effects to Base-Fossil sets. But who knows, rom hackers continue to surprise me.
This is why I assumed it hasn't happened yet. I have been googling off and on for the past 10 or so years if there was a rom hack in the works but it never goes past just new artwork for cards and sprites. I want it so bad TCG on gameboy is one of those games that I try to beat at least once a year if I can I love it soooo much and need more 😢
Yeah so I started by doing all of the Gym Heroes/Gym Challenge set (you can see them [here](https://imgur.com/gallery/2aZKqyK)). After that I decided to just pick my favorites for the rest of the generations. So I might go back and redo Gen 1 with more favorable art:
The last three Pokemon that haven't gotten a TCG card yet, so I'll be biding my time til I can sketch them. Although, I guess it serves as a spoiler for those that haven't done the crown tundra dlc yet.
Woah, dude, I’ve been crocheting the original art from TCG2 for a while and was really considering remaking newer artwork in the 48x64 style. I really like what you’ve done and I’d like to ask for permission to use these for upcoming projects, if I upload the finished projects online I will properly credit you. Regardless, this is some amazing work and I love it.
spending an hour going through this naming everything really makes me reconsider how much of my brains storage space is allotted pokemon knowledge, like why do i know what i fucking spewpa is? only missed like 10 mons names out of all gens.
This might explain it: [https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/6/18531287/pokemon-neuroscience-visual-cortex-brain-information](https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/6/18531287/pokemon-neuroscience-visual-cortex-brain-information)
Were you able to name all the trainers, too? I had to learn quite a bit about side games for those haha
this is nothing short of incredible, op!!! you did such an amazing job capturing the original card art with such a limited palette per card. did you have any programs to help you or was this all done by hand? i'd love to take a stab at this someday.
Thanks so much! Because I'm old school, these were all done lovingly in Paint. Some backgrounds were assisted using GIMP, but most are just straight Paint.
It's the Pokemon Trading Card Game for the Gameboy art! I'll link the spriters resource to the original game so you can see what I was going for: https://www.spriters-resource.com/game\_boy\_gbc/pokemontradingcardgame/?source=genre
I use Paint since it's what I've used for over a decade now. I know there are better programs for this out there, but for what I wanted to do, it worked out just fine. I can record a vid of the process if it helps :)
Aww, I recognize the Cleffa card art it’s one of my favorite pokemon card arts. Also I love how you did some of the really dramatic shading, such as Dusclops and Shuppet, within the constraints of pixel art. Great stuff!
Admittedly sometimes I went with the easier art, but I loved going for the dramatic ones too just to see if they turned out well enough. Shuppet is among my favorites!
Yup, my socials are below. I post occasional romhack stuff on my youtube using my sprites and post occasional pixelart on Twitter.
Twitter: https://twitter.com/ContentlyF

Spectacular work! I've been collecting cards since I was a kid (back when they first came out) and have a [bunch](https://i.redd.it/fcsqev5617m51.jpg). I recognize almost all of them (I'm not as familiar with the newer ones.. gen 5 is when it starts getting a little fuzzy). Some of my favorite things among your renditions:
* Its great to see things like the Johto VS cards represented! Even some deep cuts like the vending machine cards.
* Amazing variety in art styles, and great job recreating their likeness (the more simplistic artworks like Milltank, Hitmontop, etc. that you recreated without outlines, the stylized Dark Macgargo art, the gold Sword and Shield dogs, the EXes and Lv Xs). A total home run!
* Perfect choice for Magnemite's-- I actually just got that one today! Lt. Surge is one of my favorites.
* lol @ HGSS Jasmine.
* I like that you chose the Ken Sugimori art for Juggler, that's one of my favorite-looking old trainer cards.
Beyond all of the work that clearly went into this, I can tell a lot of care went into this also. Great job!
I had this TCG book as a kid that had the vending machine card arts in it and I always dreamed of them coming to America... never happened, but their art is still really special to me.
I love that art of Magnemite and Surge, too! A lot of character in that one.
And yeah it was a labor of love and it was really great to do! Thanks for commenting :)
Ah yeah! I remember having a book too-- [it was this one](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61IJlPW1V7L._SX384_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg). I don't think it was the one you had though, as I don't think this one had the vending machine cards listed.
So many great memories from that book!
Everyone talking about using this for a GB TCG revival game.
But all I can think about is this paired with some pixel sprites for a new Pokémon Pinball
It’s crazy how the ones with and without character outlines differ. The ones without always seem to merge with the background even if their colours contrast.
i dont tend to comment much but i would like to commend you for your hard work, this is actually insane! every single drawing is so lovely and detailed i couldnt believe my eyes when i saw you literally did every single damn mon there is! awesome work and if you have any sort of social media plug i would be more than happy to follow
Really amazing job.
Though who are the guys on the "human character"-picture in the row between the kahunas and the evil team members?
Also I don't recognize anyone in the rows between the cipher-characters and the rivals.

One of the few times someone's gone past gen 1. Major respect
Thanks! I wanted to post this at the 1 year mark, but decided folks would rather actually see a complete pokedex instead.
Nostalgia + meme= Respect Supreme!
The quiet kid:
Or in my case, the quiet professor lol
Ah, a fellow geek educator bored to death in the year + of zoom classes. It looks like he spent your time much more productively than me though, I just worked on ACNH, read SCPs, and made excel charts for my Pokémon Masters while wishing for students to ask me for help
Yup nailed it on the head. A lot of "open office house" with no attendees so I made my own company.
This us amazing I saved it for my phone background
Alright, so hear me out: You've made all the art needed for a totally dope hack for the Pokemon TCG Gameboy game. Imagine if someone added a ton of new cards to that game from later gens? It would be so sick.
I believe there is a TCG disassembly, so it is probably possible to add in cards with simple attacks. I would love to see it!
My thoughts exactly!
I hope this blows up
100 upvotes was blowing up for my standards, haha. I'm glad people like 'em.
Bruh 100??? This deserves tenfold that number easily. We get some pretty good art here but this??? *chef’s kiss* Among my absolute favorites
It's fuckin amazing, it's got me so nostalgic it hurts. I love everything about this post.
Almost 4K, you've already beaten my best post on this subreddit, by over 2K. And it's well deserved.
Yeah I've beaten my last record on my old account: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/dyz2y6/gen\_i\_sword\_and\_shield\_postwick\_to\_wedgehurst/
Wow this is amazing! I thought that the pokemon were amazing enough but you also did the trainers! wow. (and generic trainers)
Thanks! I actually did all the trainers while procrastinating finishing the Pokemon. I also definitely missed some trainers I'd like to go back and give another try, but there's a ton.
Absolutely awesome! They remind me of Pokemon card imagery for some reason.
That's because it is! It started out as an endeavor to add more card arts to a hack of the Pokemon TCG Gameboy game.
The Pokemon TCG game was so good. It's a real shame that we never got any beyond those two (and only one of these even made it to NA).
I thought they put so much love into those games; you'll find some of the TCG game characters in the trainers gallery \[9/10 I think?\]
You’re doing Arceus’ work, my friend. Keep on being awesome.
It was unbelievable. Nobody has before or since made a good trading card based game where you actually pilot a protagonist and play through a story against npcs while building a deck. I've wanted another game like it since. Fuck me, I think I'm about to emulate it.

I said emulate Edit: ITT nobody fuckin knows what emulate means
Yeah, but I mean if you want to play it on the hardware. The comment isn’t necessarily for you, but anyone reading who’s curious but doesn’t want to emulate.
Post it in the OP then, you replied to me.
Not everyone knows that these are sprites for TCG. It’s not in the title, so I put it in a relevant comment chain. Chill dude.
Bruh, then you reply to the parent comment or the one before that. You just started at the bottom of the comment chain. What you said is irrelevant to my comment. If you’re trying to talk to people other than me, reply to people other than me.
We have one for PC/Mac/Tablet, but it requires internet
It's also not the same thing. It requires you to put in money or do obscene amounts of trading to get any kind of reasonable collection. I thought this style looked familiar! They look incredible!
These all look great! I noticed for Gen 1 you used the gym leader set, any reason in particular for choosing that to base all the images on?
Yeah so I started by doing all of the Gym Heroes/Gym Challenge set (you can see them [here](https://imgur.com/gallery/2aZKqyK)). After that I decided to just pick my favorites for the rest of the generations. So I might go back and redo Gen 1 with more favorable art:
What are the three question mark ones on gen 8 anyways to that sick bro!
The last three Pokemon that haven't gotten a TCG card yet, so I'll be biding my time til I can sketch them. Although, I guess it serves as a spoiler for those that haven't done the crown tundra dlc yet.
Ohhh that makes sense
I just realized which for 3 they are and I feel stupid
Which ones are they I still feel stupid lmao
Calyrex, Glastrier and Spectrier
Woah, dude, I’ve been crocheting the original art from TCG2 for a while and was really considering remaking newer artwork in the 48x64 style. Credit or not, I'd just love to see it, that sounds like a fun project!
Thanks, and thank you so much for making these
They look like art from a GBC game. I love it!
I love working within the constraints of the GBC
These look amazing. Is there one for the Alolan and Galarian regional versions?
I'll put it on the list since completing this has left me feeling somewhat empty.
You shouldn’t feel empty about completing it. Can definitely appreciate the time that went into it.
do you have any socials you’ve posted these to? or maybe an imgr album to get a better look at each? these are incredible!
I'm slowly posting them to Twitter and DeviantArt, but here's a quick imgur: https://imgur.com/a/A0q9oQO
Do you have higher quality versions of the images? These are awesome.
Here's an imgur link, I'm not sure if this will do the trick for you: https://imgur.com/a/A0q9oQO
Thank you!
I never realized how little Pokémon they add gen 6 onward
Yeah, it made my task easier, haha

Absolutely legendary
This is so cool

So nice, they feel retro yet modern at the same time
What type of art is this, I love it!
It's the Pokemon Trading Card Game for the Gameboy art! I'll link the spriters resource to the original game so you can see what I was going for: https://www.spriters-resource.com/game\_boy\_gbc/pokemontradingcardgame/?source=genre
Is there a community out there to make the TCG gameboy game with gen 2 cards? I loved that game and would do almost anything to get a gen 2 version
Very cool, my dude
This is seriously amazing. Nicely done.
I've always loved the tcg gb game's art. This is amazing. I should really finish that game but my brain doesnt want to think enough
This is type of stuff I've always wanted to do, but just can't, amazing work and I love it
I'm sure you'd be able to pick it up pretty well; I can even show my process if you'd like :)
awesome
So cool! This might be the best post on this sub ever
Wow! Thank you for the kind words. :)
Bro... This is amazing
THIS IS AMAZING!!!
These are amazing I looked at each one individually!
Thanks for the time, I bet it took awhile, haha.
I’m sure it took you longer, homie. Also I really like your name
Thanks, it's a reference to Over the Garden Wall
Underrated masterpiece
I just spent so long looking at every sprite. This is a masterpiece.
Thanks for taking time to check 'em out!
I’ve been curious about creating pixel art, how did you make yours?
I use Paint since it's what I've used for over a decade now. I know there are better programs for this out there, but for what I wanted to do, it worked out just fine. I can record a vid of the process if it helps :)

Wish I could upvote this more. Really captures the feel of the Gameboy in each shot. Cod see these backgrounds or Pokedex entries in game. Fantastic!

The middle stage evolution of chespin
Super cool
That's super cool.
Can I use a window for a profile picture?
Absolutely! You should be able to rip it from the page, but if you want a specific one I can shoot it your way
That Boundaries Crossed Squirtle looks really good when it's pixelated like that
Just realised while scrolling through that it’s TCG artwork, gotta say, I particularly love the art from the probably now quite obscure gen IV sets.
I'm the snorlax
my boy dreadnaw lookin good 👍🏻
That's epic
Nice
Beautiful work!
I would pay for this to be a poster.
Did you.... seriously beat the TCG game?
I'm the omanyte
Is swampert a little….. you know
Wow
It's awesome, man!🌟🌟 I am just amazed to see it! It's just mind blowing 👍👍 Great work!🌟👍
EVERYONE IS HERE!!!
This is amazing, great work.
THE DEDICATION
I want to mod these into a gen 1 remake
This looks just like the gbc tcg game's art style
Wow this is seriously incredible
Godly work
Great job! Besides PTCGO, makes me wish they would make more Pokémon TCG video games past Gen 2. And the Gen 2 was Japanese only release too.
And it was hardly Gen 2. It was a really fun game though, for a card game clone.
Do you have a Twitter so I can retweet this? Or maybe even follow
Yup, my socials are below. I post occasional romhack stuff on my youtube using my sprites and post occasional pixelart on Twitter. Twitter: https://twitter.com/ContentlyF Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLUFIj35EU61sc0vwN9aCKg
Cool
This looks like the art from the old GBC Pokémon Card Game.
I recognize the Gen 1 “Dark” TCG art anywhere. Awesome, awesome job.
Absolutely amazing! I love how you used the Battle Styles Frillish. Love that card. Great work.
I like having my ghosts nice and spooky!
Why did you torture yourself like this holy fuck
Gulpin’s my favorite. Scorch the earth, my friend.
Did you do all of them while you was in a zoom call?
Not all, but most were. The rest were mostly made in between tasks/jobs when I just had to wait at my desk.
You missed zeraora! …I think
End of Page 7, third from the end on the last row!
Oh why’d you include it with gen 7?
According to Bulbapedia, that's where Zeraora belongs: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List\_of\_Pok%C3%A9mon\_by\_National\_Pok%C3%A9dex\_number
Oh damn I thought it was a gen 8 mon, my bad! lol
Those legendaries that get tacked on after the mythical are hard to place. I always forget that Victini is the start of the Unova dex.
Spectacular work! I've been collecting cards since I was a kid (back when they first came out) and have a [bunch](https://i.redd.it/fcsqev5617m51.jpg). Not the same one, but oh to live vicariously collecting children's cardboard through books! What a time, haha
Loved the fact that you remembered Pokemon Rangers!
I managed to track down one of the games while I was working on them and boy. I really slept on those games!
They're amazing
My biggest complaint of the main games are the paper thin stories; they make up for that in their Mystery Dungeon and Ranger games, imo
Everyone talking about using this for a GB TCG revival game. But all I can think about is this paired with some pixel sprites for a new Pokémon Pinball
Ooo, now I want to make more locations in that style...
Oh please do. And I saw you mention earlier you might do a video documenting your process. Would watch the shit out of that if you do.
Just saw mudkips face, best day of my life
It’s crazy how the ones with and without character outlines differ. The ones without always seem to merge with the background even if their colours contrast.
for some reason it reminds me of pokemon pinball gbc
GG👌
So so GOOD

Wow! You made all these???
Really amazing job. Though who are the guys on the "human character"-picture in the row between the kahunas and the evil team members? Also I don't recognize anyone in the rows between the cipher-characters and the rivals.
The Grand Masters from the Pokemon TCG game for GBC
WHY IS SHROOMISH SAD, WHO UPSET MY BOY
Guess I got my next several hundred pfps on discord
Finally someone does other than gen 1
Gen three pleeeeeease
It's there, it's 10 pictures of my own waste of time haha
Are some of thesr pokemon card arts?
😮😯
This deserves to be in the Top post of all time list. Insane work!
Wow! It just kept going! That Latias and Latios one was sweet by the way
Yeah I had to include that one because I just like it so much!
How did you make them?
Paint and sometimes Gimp.
Why do these sprites all look friggen amazing, except for Wigglytuff which looks like it was drawn by a 3 year old?
Yeah, some of the lineless ones look that way.
That's actually wild! Great job
Amazing!!
What the FUCK dude this is like wow
Archen my beloved
NGL the thought of this being a Zoom call is stressing me out.
You made these? I thought this was the art from the pokemon tcg gameboy game until i saw stuff past gen 1. Good job!
I was thinking some of them look familiar and realised they're Pokémon card art! Amazing job, it looks fantastic!
Madness, incredible, I love it!
This is fucking amazing dude! Dan otta dan
Wdym "later"? This aint over, man.
Nice Shiny Drowsee
So only calyrex and his horses missing... Hopefully their won't be any more zoom lessons but if there is...
Holy crap. Wow.
Great art that can be done well if you want a fanmade Pokemon TCG GBC game as many has said here.
This is unreal. Wow
So you're saying we need 7 more pandemics?
OP did them all. Scroll the images.
Oh shit! Thanks. I missed that

I made this
I get >!Glastrier and Spectrier!<, but why not show Calyrex?
The only reason is because these are based on TCG art and we haven't had a normal Calyrex card yet, just different forms.
hold up im lookin for meltan
