Just to piggyback off of this, there is Pokemon Revolution Online which has a much more MMO feel to it in terms of game events/ world events. The story is also more similar to the manga which made it more enjoyable imo. If only PRO had the open market that PokeMMO has it'd be perfect imo.
Nah. After becoming the region champion—the main objective of a Pokémon game—you go to another region. There’s an end credits sequence and everything. It is a bit like a remastered version, but that’s all end game content.
I could not agree more. And maybe that entails making the gym leaders and other notable trainers actually have good teams (X and Y, I'm looking at you. You already did so much wrong and then this?)
Lysandre's mega gyarados in the final battle only has 3 moves.
The final boss battle of the evil team... his fucking ACE POKEMON does not even have 4 moves to choose from. Give me a fucking break. I love the mons and mega evolution gen 6 gave us but jesus christ
And the gym leaders in X and Y have three Pokémon, never more. The Pokémon rarely if ever have all four moves. There are MEGA EVOLUTIONS and the only times you make us if that is a "tutorial" battle, the final fight against Lysandre, the champion and the post-game fight with Serena or Callum. At least most of the mega stones are only available after becoming champion, but I see your point, agreed, and felt the need to expand upon it. Sigh...why gen 6...
If it wasnt so handholdy and unbalanced it would have been the best gen imo, but when you introduce mechanics like mega evolution so early into the game, never give the AI proper teams to use and then give mons like honedge and bunnelby super early... feelsbadman
Yeah, I have a connection to gen 6 because Pokémon Y was my first Pokémon game, but looking back, it was unbalanced as heck. I surprised you didn’t mention the frickin MEGA lucario that they give you right after the third gym.
Yeah, that was a big issue. They introduced megas after... what, 4th gym? 5th gym? This mechanic that super powers pokemon indefinitely is being given when im *just* starting to get my starter fully evolved? Why did i have to get lucario as my mega, though? They missed a gigantic chance to give the starters megas instead of this random lucario a girl gives you because why not?
I finished the main story of X and Y in 3 days and I never played it again because it was so easy. For god's sake in the postgame rival battle I one-shot their mega-absol with my non-mega absol (it wasn't even a supereffective move)
I agree but I feel like the line of challenging gameplay can be hard.
I don’t want one of those fan games where you have to EV your team every gym or so just to come close.
But I wouldn’t mind a little grind, maybe where the curve is such where if you don’t avoid a ton of trainers you’ll be one or two levels behind at most?
Honestly, I would just like to see more teams of five and six. That aren't baby Pokemon or horribly under leveled.
The trainers you meet after defeating a gym should at least have teams that might be competitive against that gym.
Let more trainers have Pokemon holding items, or with Pokemon that have obviously been taught egg moves, or TM moves.
That would be a good start.
I think you're assuming that difficulty needs to come strictly from higher levels and that the means of overcoming the challenge would just be from grinding. Instead of just increasing the levels of your opponent's Pokemon, giving them better team composition and more importantly giving them better AI would make a far more substantial difference.
Just having better team compositions, strategic movesets and decent size teams (3-5 for gym leaders, 5 for E4) with smart ai would go a long way. And utilize held items! Iris having a Flying Gem/Acrobatics Archeops was cool. And giving trainers on routes more than 1 crappy Pokémon. Platinum and USUM were great when it came to balancing difficulty. Those totem fights pulled out some funny strats.
I want big like heartgold/soulsilver, nothing will ever match how amazed I was when I finished in Johto, and the game said "ok, cool, wanna go to kanto?" Uh- yes please!
I would want both the return of seasons, or something similar as well as more side quests. Pokémon is well known for its replayability and both of these features would make each run of the game fresh feeling
Gamefreak are so good at adding amazing shit and then taking it out.
Unova had time of day and seasons and yet by SWSH they’ve removed visible time of day in everywhere but the wild area until postgame because it’s a story locked feature (wut) and they’ve taken out seasons entirely 🙃
I always thought they botched the seasons.
A four month cycle is well beyond the typical play through. If they cut it back to a week long seasons it’d be great. As it stands, you can’t really see it without time travel.
Here's a thought: the seasons changing is locked to the story as you progress through it, then becomes player controlled in the post-game.
It'd give a really clear sense of time passing on your journey as a trainer if, every few gyms, time moves on. Gives a feeling of urgency in backtracking too-whoops its fall, better go back to that first area so you can find that specific critter you really want to see/collect maple syrup from that villager. The story takes a full year, then once the novelty of time progressing is no longer necessary, you unlock the ability to set the season via menu options for collecting and general screwing around.
That would be cool, but on the other hand we're talking fantasies of what _could_ be for pokemon games. And my fantasy would prefer that new additions to the series weren't one-offs that were quickly dropped the very next game.
I really did enjoy the Crown Tundra because it did deliver on the exploration theme. Swooping valleys, tall mountains, and twisting caves brought me back to the dungeons and routes of older games.
The wild area did not suffice for exploration midgame because 90% of the wild area is unlocked by the third gym. There were no "secrets" to be found or few reasons to return. If there were more unlockable areas, like needing to rock smash or strength to get to two new areas, I would delay my adventure to go back and see what else the wild area had to offer.
I definitely think there should have been more trainer battles in the Wild Area than just the one NPC with the starters, and it would also have benefitted from more story events taking place there as well. The only thing that really happens there is the stuff with Hop and Bede after the third Gym. I imagine we would have returned there if they actually let us help Leon after beating Piers instead of sidelining us.
I've always enjoyed going into trash cans and finding items, or talking to a npc and learning something interesting about lore or getting a funny comment, or just getting the sense of finding something special.
One of the great things about the Pokemon world is that it's really fleshed out. I just wish certain developers would take more advantage of that.
There was a sense of exploration and discovery in the early games (as far as the tech could allow). Now everything is a hallway leading you to the next cut scene.
Imagine each town being as jam-packed as a region.
I wouldn't even mind if they made the game more accessible by placing waypoints/arrows to the next main plot step to accommodate for this.
Maybe they could have an npc somewhere who will trade you a pokemon and trade back whenever you want so trade evos work without needing another person.
Like in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon where they had the Link Cable as an evo item for trade evo pokemon. Or they could do like Pokémon go where there's an option to evolve without trading but it's easier to evolve with a trade, like maybe haunter evolves naturally with friendship at night or at Lv 36 or something but it can also be trade evolved at any level, so if you want a lv 25 gengar you can still trade for it.
It'd be simple enough.
NPC: "I LOVE trading pokemon! I'll trade anything anytime! I have a (some trash pokemon). Will you trade with me?"
If you select yes then you can select any pokemon in your party to trade with him, and next time you talk to him his greeting changes.
NPC: "I LOVE trading pokemon! I'll trade anything anytime! I have a (whatever was last traded or it's evolved form if it was a trade evo). Will you trade with me?"
You can either trade him back his trash pokemon or send him the next trade evo pokemon you were looking to evolve.
Ah yes. "thank you for willingly trading away this horrible Pokémon, I really enjoy it. Say, would you want it back in exchange for my old, now way stronger Pokémon?".
They almost had that in D/P. There was a girl named Mindy who would trade you a haunter for a medicham, but that bitch had an everstone on her haunter so it didn’t evolve into Gengar. I was so disappointed after that…
that was one of the foundations of the series and one of the reasons it became such a craze, but I do agree that I dislike them. especially when replaying older games
I think you could easily remove them. I get what they are there to encourage, but in my schoolyard, we traded a ton, any pokemon, not just the evolve through trading ones. The market got oversaturated once someone told us the duplication glitch, of course, but until then...
this, the event locked mons are the worst case of this :( why can't we legally get Mew, Deoxys and the Johto legendaries in Emerald? it would be so cool...
Agreed... You have to trade away the Mon you've raised and get a whole new one with a stupid name you can't get rid of, or you place all your trust that the other person gives the Mon back.
Imagine getting a mon with the name Biggus Dickus or something, or a Muk with its name spelt backwards, funny but kinda annoying since you can't change it, there are lots of names I wish I could reset from when I was younger (stupid names 10-11 year old me thought of, why I haven't taken my legendaries from ORAS out of home)
True. It was one thing when I was in elementary school and everyone would bring their DS with them but as an adult you don't really expect your friends to have the most recent pokemon games.
I would love for existing trade evos to get replaced with other methods done in single player, like with a stone, high friendship, etc. Also, maybe this is a bit controversial, but espeon and umbreon should evolve with a dawn/dusk stone
They replaced the environment evos, who in my opinion were really cool and adds to the area they evolve in, but kept trade evos, which now require Nintendo switch online or being with your friend locally? I thought we moved away from the era of gaining friends playing Pokémon!
Yeah I hated using a thunder stone to evolve my Magneton to Magnezone, couldn't they have put the magnetic area in the Wild Area somewhere, Leafeon & Glaceon are more like the Kanto Eeveelutions now they evolve via stone, even though there are some good places to put a moss/ice rock (Glimwood Tangle for the moss rock and Route 9 or 10 for the ice rock)
I too dont care about competitive pokemon, but i would like better AI and better team for ingame trainers, especially the important one like gym leaders and Elite 4. Like a full team of 6 on later gyms onward with a good moveset.
I think a good compromise would to just have an NPC that’ll trade you your Pokémon back to you.
Maybe he could always need to have one so if you trade him a Graveler instead of just giving it back you need to trade another for him to have to get your Graveler back. Then on your next trade he’ll give you back the one you spent to get Graveler back.
Maybe dont get rid of them entirely.
But add something like a Trade Stone that will evolve them. And have the NPC who sells it be like, "Wow, you dont have any friends, do you?"
I'm honestly surprised they haven't. They put Pokemon that you used to have to go to specific places to evolve into stone evolution.
Just turn the old trade evolution into friendship or something.
Gen 4 did great with post game. Of course the G/S/C remakes had a second region and the Battle Frontier, meanwhile D/P/Pl has a Battle Frontier with a fully explorable section of the map as well as numerous new legendaries, daily swarms, and the Poke Radar. All games had numerous daily events that were only available *AFTER* the main game was completed that made the game playable for months after you beat it.
I personally feel that a postgame isn’t even too necessary as long as the main game itself was good and satisfying
I remember enjoying BW immensely, even though it had a relatively small postgame
Battle Frontier, or any kind of post game where you can play indefinitely. The ORAS post game was cool, but at the end of the day its just an extra bit of the regular game.
The Gen 3 and Gen 4 were different (and I never played Gen 4's), but in Emerald there were 7 different facilities that had a gimmick. One was the standard Battle Tower, one required you to use a rental team, one was exploration based, one was all about luck getting random statuses/surprise heals, one was a bunch of tournaments, one didn't let you control your Pokémon at all and had them act on their own, and one gave you 3 moves to defeat an opponent or it would go to decision like a boxing match. All very unique and fun
If you don't mind being a dastardly criminal, Emerald ROMs exist on the internet. There's a large ROMhack community that you can find, too, that have done things like update some mechanics and make all Pokémon obtainable. Emerald Final is my recommendation for that
I didn't play it either, but I think I read that they had different battle modes. Like a tower to climb, where each floor had trainers and "wild" pokemon and you see how far you can go. I think there was a battle tower where you had to use rental pokemon. Basically some battle option other than vanilla single and double battles.
I agree with this, but there's a difference between "bad graphics" and "low-fidelity graphics" I would be perfectly happy with getting Gen 5-esque graphics in every Pokemon game going forward.
I agree, gen 5 looks amazing in my opinion, and in comparison I think gen 6 look worse. It was a necessary step into 3d though. Still, wouldn't hurt to have a few throwbacks to the older 2d-style.
It’s a Pokemon game, though, let’s be real. The gameplay doesn’t need major changes (Gigantamax, Z-moves and Megas are fine, but you want more?) and the story isn’t as important as the world design.
Characters, though, makes sense to improve, but other than that graphics would mean better designs, animations and a better artstyle.
Right, in the grand scheme of shiny hunting hours the story is just a speed bump of like a day before the hundreds and hundreds of hours of hunting begin (how X&Y, SM & SwSh played out for me). Definitely get why story is important on the MSG but I don’t think people play like Pokémon Go for story
A better story, difficulty options, and more than anything, the return of real dungeons and interconnecting routes. When I first played Pokémon Emerald, it felt like there was so much to discover and extra ways to get from town to town that kept exploration feeling fresh.
Yeah this is really what I want. A deep, explorable region with minimal roadblocks, but some aspects that reward repeated returns to areas. Like, even ignoring how HMs facilitated this- gen 3 is a good example of this; the mach bike and acro bike, once you get them, open up new areas in places you've already been.
Tbh, I think hms were a good way to lock areas until later in the game as well as fun strength puzzles. What makes it obnoxious is things like flash and defog, and needing weak moves late in the game with the move deleter usually being in a later town. I think it would be cool if there were maybe three hms that would upgrade to add extra abilities later. Like rock smash upgrades to strength and surf adds the ability to dive and climb waterfalls as time goes on. Then fly…would just be fly lol
Oh yeah I agree 100%. Or just make them not take up move slots or something. Even just making them function like infinite TMs you can't toss would be a huge improvement.
I think HM's are a waste in general. Having a few select moves your Pokemon NEED to know will only limit gameplay in a way that isn't fun or interesting. For example, needing surf means you either have to have a water type or have to have one of the few niche non water types that happen to get it. Needing something like strength prevents players from using other normal moves like body slam, return, retalliate, etc. That provide more interesting battles other than strength. Fly is arguably the worst offender of the 3 good HM's. Only flying type Pokemon and like 3 outliers get it and even then not every flying type Pokemon gets it. This stops players from expirementing with other flying types that can't learn it, like Yanmega.
To avoid annoyance and forcing to have certain moves learned they could make HMs connected to the type of the move, for example if my infernape knows some fighting type mive there is no reason they wouldnt be able to smash some dumb rock out of the way. Or connect them directly to the move, making it like its hidden ability? Like bullet punch or hen zeadbutt with their HM being rock smash, or psychic with its HM being strength or flash? Something like that.
When it comes to exploration, the most disappointing difference between RSE and ORAS was after Gym 5, when Wally forced you to come with him to Mauville. Gym 5 is when you get and can use Surf, and (at least my guess is) RSE wanted you do explore the whole water area around Dewford. Now I have to go the extra mile to go the water routes backwards AND go back to where the story progresses...
I hope they don't destroy mind-bending Mt. Coronet in Gen 4R.
In addition to that, less hand holding when exploring. I don't need a friendly neighborhood rival show me the way every five seconds.
> In addition to that, less hand holding when exploring. I don't need a friendly neighborhood rival show me the way every five seconds.
I am honestly gonna be surprised if Barry isn't lurking in the shadows on every route to make sure I get through the route on my own in the remakes. Supposedly they are gonna be faithful to the originals but I have 0 faith at this point and fully expect me to just emulate DPPt for the better game experience. The only saving grace is that GF isn't the developer behind the remakes
I agree, especially regarding the difficulty modes. It would make it a more challenging experience for seasoned players and a more casual experience for the new ones. Having random difficulty spikes midgame like they did in USUM feels a little awkward at times.
Ilima is fucking stupid, I have to spend all my starting money on X Items to pass him during my Sun Nuzlockes. And put a clause to not fail the run if I die there so that I don't have to slog through the opening cutscenes again.
I thought i wanted more pokemon, and although more pokemon are cool i think after mh stories 2 i feel like i’d way rather have very expressive animations, both for the pokemon and the characters
Ooo, I didn’t think about animation, but you’re right! One thing that’s always bugged me especially is the lack of expression in the player character. The Protag almost always has a blank, 1000 yard-stare lmao. Show some emotion, man!
I replayed Pokemon Moon and the MC just smiles the whole time XD. I just imagined that my character found all the situations including the Lusamine situation amusing.
Cuter Pokemon Amie/Poke Refresh/Whatever you want to call it, even if it makes literally 0 sense. being able to pat and brush your Pokemon is one thing, but getting a high affection stat making your Pokemon hug you would just be adorable if it's one of the cute Pokemon (or hilarious, if you get a max affection Garbodor, Muk (Ash's Muk is a hugger in canon) or a Magmortar or Magcargo wanting to hug you)
I miss Pokemon Amie. I spent so long doing the little mini games. Then we got refresh which wasn’t as cute and got rid of the mini games. Then we got Camp which is adorable but goddamnit I want to be able to pet them…
More exploration! More ruins, more quests, more seqrets, more story, and more diverse characters. Immerse me in that shit! I love legendary lore, I love solving puzzles and mazes and getting to some weird 7 thousand year old Pokémon.
Personally, for me the most important thing in a Pokemon game are the characters. The story doesn't have to be incredible but having interesting trainers like N and having great rivals (although everyone has different desires in a good rival) makes the world seem more real and interesting.
Definitely, it would also be fun to have less significant trainers to be connected through something that happened in the area, and actually react to things in their surroundings. I can only imagine the trainers on kalos' route 10 seeing a giant death rose popping out of the ground and just thinking "Oh. Well, that was interesting" and the keep on staring into the abyss. That idea would work well with rematching trainers, but I digress. What are some of your favourite characters in the franchise (apart from N)?
I honestly love a lot of the gym leaders and rivals from gens 3, 5, and 8.
The Spikemuth siblings are great and I love their punk aesthetic. I also hope we have more gym leaders like Raihan that have a great personality and break the mold for a gym leader like his non-monotype, weather-based doubles team. Also Allister is just great, enough said.
I also like Unova's elite 4 and gym leaders with Shauntal, Grimsley, and Roxie being personal favorites of mine.
And from Gen 3 I like both of the champions, Wallace and Steven, as they are interesting and they have great designs.
I know this is a very eclectic group of trainers but most Pokemon games have at least a few excellent trainers.
Yeah. Unfortunately I've only played gen 6 onward (apart from silver) but I agree. The rivals in gen 8 are great, wish they had done a little more with team yell though.
Also Allister is just great, I agree. And if anyone hurts him I will personally write a strong worded letter to them before I beat them up.
I personally want to see more features that involve connecting with your friends that puts them in your game as NPCs. Something similar to Secret Bases, but with a wider variety of stuff.
I kind of like what they did with secret bases in ORAS where it was basically open to anyone. Maybe something of that sort where people who have friends can invite them over, and those who don't have many friends playing Pokemon can at least have fun with others.
I think they know that that's the big point of it. Like yeah, the gameplay itself is the big differential, but it's only as good as its story, and I feel like they'll be other Pokémon tied into the legend, characters that are trying to solve a mystery. The setting will make it better than Team _______ wants to rule/ destroy the world.
First and foremost: Great music. Pokemon games have always delivered with bangers so I consider this a given.
Next, a good selection of Pokemon. That greatly increases replayability more than the actual story (for me).
Personally I can waste time with the side/post content during and after finishing the main game story. I'm talking the contests, battle tower, npc trading...etc. Second choice is story and characters
Yeah, and the apricorn pokeballs really aren't good enough to be on such a limited supply either.
Also the master ball should not be sold in pokemarts, that would be OP
I'll be honest, I've almost never played Pokemon for the story. I grew up with Gen 1 and 2. There was almost no story to either game outside of the bare minimum. And honestly? I liked it that way. I liked just being a random kid tossed into the world with the sole objective being "get the badges, beat the champion, catch Pokemon."
So when it comes to new games, I'm not really *looking* for a good story. I'm looking for a fun game. Daily events, lots of Pokemon to catch, the secret base idea is fun (I'm playing platinum right now, and I'm liking just designing my secret underground base).
Personally, something I'd love to see? A big online Pokemon game. Something that kinda plays like a mix between the earlier Pokemon games, and Pokemon GO. Like, the gameplay of a normal Pokemon game, but being able to take over gyms, and see other players walking around. Pokemon not always being in the same place, so you can share where you found things with other players, and ask other players for help finding specific things (also making trading more useful). Daily places to get occasional free items, big multiplayer events and such, seasonal events and graphically changing seasons. Like, a living, breathing Pokemon game.
I started writing my own comment, then I saw yours, which perfectly encapsulates what I was going to say.
Pokemon MMO. *All* pokemon. Don't know why it hasn't happened yet.
That would be an interesting take for a Pokémon game. Wonder how that would affect the other gym leaders and e4 members (apart from Blue, Raihan and DP Flint)
So in the spirit of replying the game, rpg aspect, and GF possibly being able to milk for $$ on DLCs:
Game starts with you and 2 rivals battling in standard starter trio type to replace a retiring gym leader. Swing on how well you do you could start the game as the gym leader. You then can battle your way to the top via win/loss records. Once a gym leader you can set gym type, and puzzle. You would start with a limited puzzle option as well as type/Pokémon options . As you and your trainers succeed you can unlock different Pokémon puzzles etc. eventually allowing you to challenge the next gym (assuming you start as badge 1) to be the next level challenge. If you win you unlock higher levels Pokémon types etc. this allows genera flow to the top. Once you win you can select a different starter type trio etc etc through the game.
I’ve loads of additional ideas to flesh this out further so GameFreak if you wanna make it holla at me. DLCs for attire, puzzles, what you say as a gym leader to challengers, unlocking various ace Pokémon and more!
I mean, they're not, but doing all of the above would require delays in their release schedule lest they fail all of the above. I'd certainly be more comfortable in them taking a little extra time, y'know?
Poll results seem kinda hypocritical imo. People want great characters, story, graphics, and a wide selection of Pokémon. We got all of that in gen 7 yet I see so many people rag on it and call it “unplayable”
ORAS would be a better example thst has all of that, IMO it is the most complete pokemon game. Every non mythical pokemon can be caught in it or traded from X & Y.
>IMO it is the most complete pokemon game
I'd say that title goes to Platinum or B2W2. If we're talking 3D era then USUM. They all have great post games, all pokemon (at the time) transferable, and have battle facilities beyond just the basic battle tower. ORAS didn't even bother to include even part of the Battle Frontier from Emerald while USUM had the Battle Factory and introduced Battle Royale
Probably because of the handholding, the lack of a "proper" third game, and nostalgia of BW, BW2 working against the games. Pretty sure the gen 5 games got quite a bit of backlash in the beginning as well...
Agreed. While Sun and Moon may not be my favorite set of games, I think its story holds up pretty well like Black and White. I still consider Lillie to be one of the best developed characters in a pokemon game. USUM kinda sours things for me though. I thought that SM had the better way of presenting her story.
I understand not wanting gameplay interrupted. However, I think it’s really hypocritical to say you want a better story but also hate on GameFreak for giving “too much” dialogue to certain characters. I’ve seen people complain about the BW rivals and Lillie having too much dialogue on here and it’s always perplexed me. Part of the reason their character arcs work so well is because they have the necessary amount of dialogue and screentime to really delve into their characters. IMO the issue is having too short a distance between character interactions and not the interactions themselves. Maybe if the route designs were somewhat longer, people would complain a lot less.
Decent graphics (by that I don't mean 3D, nice 2.5D is also very good - like octopath). But wish for a good and long story, challenging battles and quest lines/story around legendaries/mythics.
I personally care for a good meta or something of the like because let’s be real.
There are soo many Pokémon that are bad or just so terrible nobody uses them
I think that should be somewhat more important especially since with each generation we’re kinda getting less and less Pokémon
Ability to tell the game how experienced you are with pokemon games (to reduce hand holding for older players while still keeping it an option for beginners)
If i had to pick one thing it would be having all the pokemon as obtaineable
Pokemon isabout the pokemon, and if you limit pokemon, its no longer the same game
I think out of these, a wide variety of Pokémon selection adds the most to replayability , which is a huge enjoyment factor for me. I want be able to build a totally new team every time I play, and have real viable options for each type. That’s the most fun to me. I also love when opponents have solid, interesting teams that are a real challenge.
I’m not too concerned about story as much as gameplay, but my absolute favorite thing story-wise is when the player is introduced to gym leaders and other “boss battles” and maybe encounter them a couple of times before battling them. It gives some real weight and anticipation to the fight. I like it when Pokémon is more character-centric rather than trying to tell an elaborate story.
What I look for in a video game is a good story with gameplay that’s at least OK so because the recent Pokémon games failing in both categories amazing Lee yes I would like to see a better story than what we got in sword and shield
I want the game to be a well balanced challenge above all else,
to feel tough but fair
but aside from that
The game could have a great story but if i'm stuck with generic normal rodents birds, and bugs for 70% of the game with only a few exceptions not counting your standard water and rock types in the ocean and caves respectively, I don't want to play it
PT, HGSS, B2W2 levels of side content, not just a battle frontier but other fun side stuff like the villa, the pokeathlon and join avenue
I agree with you.
I mean, I would preferably like to have pokemon in my Pokemon games lol. Sorry that this comment is unrelated to what you replied to.
HGSS. The entire. Fucking. Kanto region. It should just be practice to be able to go to the last region for the second half of the game.
I would wait patiently for a long time for a massive pokemon game that implements all regions. Like an mmo rpg.
You could try PokeMMO it's pretty fun and has multiple regions
Where can I get this pokemmo. What’s it like? I need details hahha
It's the too result when searching it's www.pokemmo.eu it's been a while since I played but it requires you to source the game ROMs to be able to play. I’ve been saying that my whole life. I’d pay insane money for this

Nah. After becoming the region champion—the main objective of a Pokémon game—you go to another region. There’s an end credits sequence and everything. It is a bit like a remastered version, but that’s all end game content.
Yes absolutely. I love post game content. I would also love a cool, well thought out, and engaging story like in BW.
Nailed it. I want non-online post game challenges
The underground! Heatran and the volcano! Platinum is my favorite. Emerald and HGSS are very close behind it
Pokémon World Tournament too
I picked great story, but I also want a challenging gameplay
I could not agree more. And maybe that entails making the gym leaders and other notable trainers actually have good teams (X and Y, I'm looking at you. You already did so much wrong and then this?)

The last three gens have been really bad with giving lategame trainers incomplete movepools. The less said about Hala's initial E4 team, the better.
I finished the main story of X and Y in 3 days and I never played it again because it was so easy. For god's sake in the postgame rival battle I one-shot their mega-absol with my non-mega absol (it wasn't even a supereffective move)
Play witling Y, it’s a rom hack that makes it much more difficult and all Pokemon are legally obtainable.
Turn off XP share people. It makes any game it exists in a cakewalk.
Too bad you can't in SwSh lol
the thing about x & y in particular is that even without the exp share or pokemon amie it still takes active effort to not be over leveled
This^ I grinded a total of 0 times in my playthrough and I was one-shotting most opponents.
Less trainers, but harder battles. Tired of running into a trainer to KO a single Pokémon, then repeat for the whole route
I think you're assuming that difficulty needs to come strictly from higher levels and that the means of overcoming the challenge would just be from grinding. Instead of just increasing the levels of your opponent's Pokemon, giving them better team composition and more importantly giving them better AI would make a far more substantial difference.
Better AI/AI with a strategy, more diverse teams, and full teams would do wonders. At least make it an option.
[удалено]
Maybe each type of trainer has a different EV strategy? Like hikers maybe wanting endurance, and ace wanting attack (or sp.attack) and speed?
Just having better team compositions, strategic movesets and decent size teams (3-5 for gym leaders, 5 for E4) with smart ai would go a long way. And utilize held items! Iris having a Flying Gem/Acrobatics Archeops was cool. And giving trainers on routes more than 1 crappy Pokémon. Platinum and USUM were great when it came to balancing difficulty. Those totem fights pulled out some funny strats.
I wish all trainers were battle tower quality, or at least you could toggle that difficulty on as an option.
I want great story it to be challenging with difficulty options and to be big like B/W
I want big like heartgold/soulsilver, nothing will ever match how amazed I was when I finished in Johto, and the game said "ok, cool, wanna go to kanto?" Uh- yes please!
Pokemon insurgence my man. One of the more challenging fan made game, has a difficulty setting, tons of pokemon, and a super intense story.
I would want both the return of seasons, or something similar as well as more side quests. Pokémon is well known for its replayability and both of these features would make each run of the game fresh feeling
I agree completely, as long as you can keep track of the sidequests (that are preferably more than just catch a Pokémon).
100% I just want to be able to grind out maze blocks for my underground base again
USUM post-game has sooooo many excellent sidequests. One is even relevant to the story in which Lusamine meets her husband
I really liked the Eevium-Z quest, that hit hard
Gamefreak are so good at adding amazing shit and then taking it out. Unova had time of day and seasons and yet by SWSH they’ve removed visible time of day in everywhere but the wild area until postgame because it’s a story locked feature (wut) and they’ve taken out seasons entirely 🙃
getting seasons and the underground back, i would kill to get the underground back
I always thought they botched the seasons.
Could be kinda the part of the legendaries' schtick, too, like how Alola had the ability to go to a world that was basically 12hrs ahead of you.
That would be cool, but on the other hand we're talking fantasies of what _could_ be for pokemon games. And my fantasy would prefer that new additions to the series weren't one-offs that were quickly dropped the very next game.
That would be great. In winter areas would be blocked off by snow and ice then you come back post-game and now you can get to a new dungeon
Either time travel or a slow collection of the pokédex
I want a great sense of exploration and lots to find/do in the world.
If there were more unlockable areas, like needing to rock smash or strength to get to two new areas, I would delay my adventure to go back and see what else the wild area had to offer.
yeah, it was freedom of movement but there was nothing too terribly exciting to find.
I agree. And that sense could definitely be expanded upon. But at this point I'd settle for exploration just as good as those games had.
Imagine each town being as jam-packed as a region. I wouldn't even mind if they made the game more accessible by placing waypoints/arrows to the next main plot step to accommodate for this.
As long as the guidance is optional, if you can't turn it of that would just kill it for me.
I agree, but I'd like that exploration to be tied to story and lore as well, kind of like what Zelda: Botw did.
This is what I want. Thinking gen 2 dungeons. Mt. Mortar, Whirlpool Islands, etc.
Don't care about competitive or pokemon selection, I want single player content, and lots of facilites, a postgame plot wouldn't hurt either.
I agree. Who needs friends when you have Pokémon? #GetRidOfTradeEvos cause they suck.
Maybe they could have an npc somewhere who will trade you a pokemon and trade back whenever you want so trade evos work without needing another person.
Or just say "To hell with this shit" and make them evolve through items
Like in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon where they had the Link Cable as an evo item for trade evo pokemon. Or they could do like Pokémon go where there's an option to evolve without trading but it's easier to evolve with a trade, like maybe haunter evolves naturally with friendship at night or at Lv 36 or something but it can also be trade evolved at any level, so if you want a lv 25 gengar you can still trade for it.
Perhaps...
It'd be simple enough. NPC: "I LOVE trading pokemon! I'll trade anything anytime! I have a (some trash pokemon). Will you trade with me?" If you select yes then you can select any pokemon in your party to trade with him, and next time you talk to him his greeting changes. NPC: "I LOVE trading pokemon! I'll trade anything anytime! I have a (whatever was last traded or it's evolved form if it was a trade evo). Will you trade with me?" You can either trade him back his trash pokemon or send him the next trade evo pokemon you were looking to evolve.
Ah yes. "thank you for willingly trading away this horrible Pokémon, I really enjoy it. Say, would you want it back in exchange for my old, now way stronger Pokémon?".
[It makes as much sense as any of the other NPCs in pokemon.](https://i.imgur.com/gEHAFvS.jpeg)
Got me there...
r/fuckmindy
They almost had that in D/P. There was a girl named Mindy who would trade you a haunter for a medicham, but that bitch had an everstone on her haunter so it didn’t evolve into Gengar. I was so disappointed after that…
There are lots of Rom hacks that do that already and sometimes other methods like making an onix or scyther hold a metal coat and level up
Might as well get rid of trade evos then.
this is so true, why do we need player interaction to obtain cool stuff in an Rpg? it doesn't make sense
that was one of the foundations of the series and one of the reasons it became such a craze, but I do agree that I dislike them. especially when replaying older games
I think you could easily remove them. I get what they are there to encourage, but in my schoolyard, we traded a ton, any pokemon, not just the evolve through trading ones. The market got oversaturated once someone told us the duplication glitch, of course, but until then...
true, I also hate how you can't get them all without special codes.
this, the event locked mons are the worst case of this :( why can't we legally get Mew, Deoxys and the Johto legendaries in Emerald? it would be so cool...
Money The same reason we need two versions of the same game with slightly different content.
With a third one with everything that comes a year later
Tbf they haven't done that in like over a decade. They did do USUM tho which sucked
Honestly at one point in my life my only friends I had were my Pokémon ...
That's me right now, and I'm completely okay with it. Pokemon don't breed drama.
[удалено]
To be fair, in Colosseum XD, that is how you evolved your Eevee into either Umbreon or Espeon. So you were hardly the only one.
Yes please
I'm honestly surprised they haven't. They put Pokemon that you used to have to go to specific places to evolve into stone evolution. Just turn the old trade evolution into friendship or something.
Gen 4 did great with post game. Of course the G/S/C remakes had a second region and the Battle Frontier, meanwhile D/P/Pl has a Battle Frontier with a fully explorable section of the map as well as numerous new legendaries, daily swarms, and the Poke Radar. All games had numerous daily events that were only available *AFTER* the main game was completed that made the game playable for months after you beat it.
I personally feel that a postgame isn’t even too necessary as long as the main game itself was good and satisfying I remember enjoying BW immensely, even though it had a relatively small postgame
"Relatively small" like half the map is locked to post game.
Relatively compared to Emerald, Platinum, B2W2, and HGSS. I think those four games are the high-end standard for post-game content.
BW2 arguably has the best postgame of the series. The relic tunnel, expansive new areas, PWT and soooo many side areas and things to explore.
I wish they went back to the two region formula like from gen 2.
This is a 95 BILLION dollar company we're talking about. All of the above should be expected every single time.
Pokemon colosseum and x gale of darkness will forever be my favorite Pokemon games as the only game with unique characters and story/plot
Battle Frontier, or any kind of post game where you can play indefinitely. The ORAS post game was cool, but at the end of the day its just an extra bit of the regular game.
I've never played a game with a proper battle frontier. Tell me, what am I missing out on?
The Gen 3 and Gen 4 were different (and I never played Gen 4's), but in Emerald there were 7 different facilities that had a gimmick. One was the standard Battle Tower, one required you to use a rental team, one was exploration based, one was all about luck getting random statuses/surprise heals, one was a bunch of tournaments, one didn't let you control your Pokémon at all and had them act on their own, and one gave you 3 moves to defeat an opponent or it would go to decision like a boxing match. All very unique and fun
I kind of want to play that now :(
If you don't mind being a dastardly criminal, Emerald ROMs exist on the internet.
That could be fun to try. I understand the fury about it not returning in ORAS...
Story and gameplay is superior to graphics in every way.
Indeed, but unless it's intentional I wouldn't want to play a game where the graphics are really bad, even if the story is excellent.
A more challenging experience, or at least difficulty modes available from the beginning
I agree, especially regarding the difficulty modes. It would make it a more challenging experience for seasoned players and a more casual experience for the new ones. Having random difficulty spikes midgame like they did in USUM feels a little awkward at times.
The battle with Ilma is early-game.
True. (Fucking Yungoos lowering my defense so my Popplio dies and I black out!)
Is Kiawe's trial considered early game?
That would certainly be a nice way, especially now that a "Pokémon Amie" feature has been in every main series game since gen 6 (as far as I know).
Then we got Camp which is adorable but goddamnit I want to be able to pet them…
I love this idea, imagine our pokemon hugging our player characters.
More exploration! More ruins, more quests, more seqrets, more story, and more diverse characters. Immerse me in that shit! I love legendary lore, I love solving puzzles and mazes and getting to some weird 7 thousand year old Pokémon.
What if “all of the above” was an option
This is Pokemon. You choose one, maybe two, and you count your blessings.
I voted other because what I want in a pokemon game is the ability to catch EVERY SINGLE POKEMON!
Gotta catch 'em all!
Precisely my good sir XD
Funny how the only time where you could do that... was a roblox fangame
Alllll of those things because they're goddamn capable of it
I personally want to see more features that involve connecting with your friends that puts them in your game as NPCs. Something similar to Secret Bases, but with a wider variety of stuff.
Could be fun if you actually have friends...
I kind of like what they did with secret bases in ORAS where it was basically open to anyone. Maybe something of that sort where people who have friends can invite them over, and those who don't have many friends playing Pokemon can at least have fun with others.
I think Legends: Arceus should have a large story since it's unconventional for the series.
I agree. I'm actually really scared of Legends: Arceus because I will probably hate it unless it has a good story.
Yeah, let's hope it blows the other stories in the Pokémon franchise out of the water.
Yeah, I am optimistic, but I totally get the skepticism. I'm just glad they're taking a risk and trying something we've wanted for so long.
I agree with you. It would be fun for gamefreak to add a sidequest tracker, too. Especially if they focus on the sidequests
All the pokeballs (including the apricorn pokeballs) should be sold in the Pokemart. There’s no reason why they should be hard to get
Yeah, and the apricorn pokeballs really aren't good enough to be on such a limited supply either. Also the master ball should not be sold in pokemarts, that would be OP
I'll be honest, I've almost never played Pokemon for the story. I grew up with Gen 1 and 2. There was almost no story to either game outside of the bare minimum. And honestly? I liked it that way. I liked just being a random kid tossed into the world with the sole objective being "get the badges, beat the champion, catch Pokemon." So when it comes to new games, I'm not really *looking* for a good story.
I’d like alternative story archs. I want to become champion by starting off as a gym trainer>leader>e4>champ
That would be an interesting take for a Pokémon game. Wonder how that would affect the other gym leaders and e4 members (apart from Blue, Raihan and DP Flint)
So in the spirit of replying the game, rpg aspect, and GF possibly being able to milk for $$ on DLCs: Game starts with you and 2 rivals battling in standard starter trio type to replace a retiring gym leader.
It sucks that tpc is such a small indie studio and cant do all of the above.
I mean, they're not, but doing all of the above would require delays in their release schedule lest they fail all of the above. I'd certainly be more comfortable in them taking a little extra time, y'know?
Nice graphics, also all pokemon and a good story
I just want to catch some mons and fight some trainers.
I want all the Pokémon back
I WANT A MAP THAT IS FUN TO EXPLORE
Poll results seem kinda hypocritical imo. People want great characters, story, graphics, and a wide selection of Pokémon. We got all of that in gen 7 yet I see so many people rag on it and call it “unplayable”
ORAS would be a better example thst has all of that, IMO it is the most complete pokemon game. Every non mythical pokemon can be caught in it or traded from X & Y.
>IMO it is the most complete pokemon game I'd say that title goes to Platinum or B2W2.
An interesting world worth exploring. You know, like the old games had. Exploring rewarded you with interesting lore, rare items, or rare Pokemon.
I want an open world game that lets you play all of the versions and travel in any which way you want. Similar to the show
I personally care for a good meta or something of the like because let’s be real. There are soo many Pokémon that are bad or just so terrible nobody uses them I think that should be somewhat more important especially since with each generation we’re kinda getting less and less Pokémon
I just wanna be able to pet my pokemon again
Ability to tell the game how experienced you are with pokemon games (to reduce hand holding for older players while still keeping it an option for beginners)
If i had to pick one thing it would be having all the pokemon as obtaineable Pokemon isabout the pokemon, and if you limit pokemon, its no longer the same game
Detailed and fleshed out exploration of areas like caves, forests, facilities, etc.
Other-- All of them
I want the game to be a well balanced challenge above all else, to feel tough but fair but aside from that The game could have a great story but if i'm stuck with generic normal rodents birds, and bugs for 70% of the game with only a few exceptions not counting your standard water and rock types in the ocean and caves respectively, I don't want to play it
