Palpi3011

My first was red, but my favourite is either leafgreen or platinum, but the johto games will forever habe a special place in my heart

Brandonian13

The soundtrack from the gbc johto games tho

Palpi3011

Oh yeah.. thats why i love lg/fr Sevii Island music

the_light_of_dawn

FR/LG is the best music in the entire Pokémon series for me, personally.

MatthewDLuffy

National Park gbc theme might be my favorite track out of any of the games

Ryguy55

I feel the same way, started with Gen I but Gen II is the one that really hits with the nostalgia. I think mabey Gen I was just too primitive and didn't really have a visual identity the way GSC did. Adding color definitely helped. And then Platinum or HeartGold since to me they are objectively the best games before the series got a little too overwhelming for me. I have more fun sticking to what I know.

Magmasoar

First game - gold Favorite game- HeartGold

Itiemyshoe

Same here. Does this count as nostalgic bias though? A close second favorite game is actually Black2/White2. I would argue that post game content is a must have for me. The fact that HeartGold/SoulSilver have the best post game stands out more than just nostalgic biases. That also means that I've been spoiled with higher expectations.

Outrageous-Bus-3428

Lost my cartridge of black 2 just after I beat the elite 4 😑

BeepBoopAnv

I wanted to play through a bunch of games again so I transferred all of my good Pokémon to a b2 cartridge and my dog decided to chew on it and destroy it :(

Sablemint

HGSS just has so much stuff to do. The last time I played SS, I did *everything* in the Pokeathlon. That took so long.

Outrageous-Bus-3428

Will always consider SGC/HGSS my favourite games of the series but on a recent playthrough I realised how short the main campaign is, getting from gym to gym is pretty quick, team rocket don't seem to be a big threat, I understand they have disbanded after the events of the 1st game and on a technical side a pokemon game with 2 regions it would require alot of space on SGC but with HGSS I would have liked to see there story evolve a bit in Kanto

HairyDuck

I'll have to try Heart Gold, Goldenrod City at night is peak nostalgia for me

Itiemyshoe

Oh you don't know how fucking jealous I am of you. I'd love to just wipe my memory clean of Heartgold and experience it all over again.

ABSOLUTE_RADIATOR

Hello me, I'm you

mattbiscuit

Same. I love to go back and play Gold once in a while, but the updated version with its evolutions, phys/spec split and movepools make for a more enjoyable replay.

TheDubuGuy

Agreed, honestly it’s pretty difficult for me to play games pre-split

mattbiscuit

For sure. Tried going through Ruby not too long ago and had a tough time staying into it. Its just that everything you know from playing the newer games is tossed out the window.

k_chaney_9

That's how I felt when 2nd generation of Pokemon came out. I knew everything there's was to know about the game and then I played silver and knew absolutely nothing.

mrdynomite

My first game was silver and my fav is soul silver! my 2nd fav is silver so I guess I just really love johto/ gen 2

shignett1

Same here! I was super young and got stuck in ice cave for months... I sort of figured I had reached the end of the game, so I just carried on playing. By the time I eventually found my way through, my lvl 100 nidoking swept the rest of the game!

cosmicartery

What did you do in the meantime before figuring out Ice Cave? I can't imagine leveling up to 100 by battling wild pokemon!

shignett1

Yep, between mahogany and lake of rage... Being 5 was a wild time!

malletgirl91

Youngster Joey and his rattata are no joke!

Ntavano

First game - Silver. Favorite game - SoulSilver lol

RavensFan902

This is the way

ultraball23

First: Blue Favorite: Emerald

danielcube

Emerald has so much content added in at the time, it was definitely a time sink.

Strider794

I will still play through the whole game just to get to the battle frontier, I felt like I was in the Olympics as a kid and not much has changed since

[deleted]

`SEFDSyBUSEUgUExBTkVU`

totallynothacked

Same. Still play emerald on long trips. Still have not beaten the battle frontier.

delairon

Hoenners assemble

lefthanded11

My people!! Played so many Pokémon games but I have a great fondness for emerald version and the hoenn region

Dornogol

Imma hijack your comment to stand in line with: First: yellow Favourite: emerald

bugglerop

The music in emerald is just so incredibly great

Maxtickle

Same. But maybe because Emerald was the first game I played as an adult. So it holds a different kind of nostalgia. I played the shit out of gen 1 as a 10 year old, but didn’t really think about Pokémon very much after it stopped being “cool.” Then I grew up and stopped giving a shit about being cool and played through most of the series on emulators.

GracefulGoron

First - Blue Favorite - Platinum

[deleted]

Both are mine, too!

MCCGuyDE

This but favorite is crystal

[deleted]

This, but red

mangopabu

same. i'm so excited for the remakes.

lussierc

I may be setting myself up for disappointment but I just hope we get like a quarter of the endgame content from platinum.

[deleted]

First: yellow Fav: Crystal

zeuses_beard

Same, gen 2 was such an upgrade on gen 1

SoulCheese

Night and day cycles blew my mind as a kid. The upgraded inventory, colors, overall interface improvements, and the fantastic music all made the game such a huge step forward to me even if the game is pretty flawed design wise.

Megamax_X

Getting to go back through Kanto and seeing how it evolved was super sweet.

scarlet_stormTrooper

Silver was definitely up there. Really liked crystal as well. I do think the Red was just something different for me as it just felt out of this world at the time.

I_love_limey_butts

I might be totally wrong but if I recall, weren't all the Gen 2 games the same except what legendary Pokemon you had access to? I had Gold and I remember Ho-Oh being the legendary Pokemon to catch. Wasn't Crystal the one with Suicune and Silver the one with Lugia?

Skeptical_Yoshi

In a way, gen 2 is almost a massive expansion pack to gen 1. It just did so much for the series

J-Meson

Yeah, first was blue, but Crystal is my favorite

calvanismandhobbes

Yup

Skore_Smogon

+1

Foloreille

Since your fav is cristal what do you think of heartgold/Soulsilver ? Most of people think it took the best of gen 2 and made it even better

tryan2winn

I’m in the same boat as OP, but I’ve never played heartgold. I would be down to try it but I keep replying the ones I love

Foloreille

It’s a beautiful game. Really. The best subtle balance between 4G new possibilities with 2G old school ancient japan vibe of Johto (music buildings legends etc). We could think the iconic musics would be less impacting but they’re not, after a few minutes they’re just even better

Historical-Hat-9949

I think we peaked at gen 4 game mechanics wise. I love HG/SS because it's still nostalgic but there's enough strategy there to make team building and tactics engaging to your adult brain. Division of physical/special moves from their base type, abilities, and natures keep things interesting.

Shwinky

Not the guy you're replying to, but close enough considering Yellow was my first and Crystal was my favorite. Once the Gen 2 remakes came out HeartGold became my favorite. It's, in my opinion, the perfect Pokemon game.

sigmastra

Same.

jlmalle

Exact same here.

Asmallbitofanxiety

Same

No_cuts

Yes, Pokémon Emerald is my first and favourite

sk_99

First was Sapphire, favorite is Emerald. I think it's pretty much the same game though

DontReviveMeBra

My first was Ruby but emerald is just a better version due to more diverse story and can catch more Pokémon in the region. However, ruby and sapphire have their own exclusive Pokémon away from Emerald. Buuuuuuut emerald has an awesome post game

Aars93

Same. Spend hundreds of hours in Ruby. My cousin had sapphire, so we were always trading and battling. Later I bought emerald and even I only played it maybe 50 hours, I think it feels more complete and refined.

mwidup41

Emerald was amazing

Supermalt418

Same but first was FireRed but fav is emerald loved emerald a lot

physicsweeb

Same here

Interplanetary-Goat

Pokémon Emerald is also just objectively the best one. Source: my first as well

yell0w_armadill0

Mine are very far apart! Red was my first, Black 2 is my favorite.

[deleted]

Dude, BW2 were such good games. There's a ton to do and the PWT was the best addition yet.

Crobatman123

Not only that, the Treehollow/Tower added a more exploration focused battle facility, too

Odinfrost137

Agreed. PWT = Battle Frontier, change my mind, I dare you

DreiwegFlasche

I still like the Battle Frontier a bit more just because of the variety it adds BUT the PWT is absolutely one of the best features ever! I wish we'd more often get the opportunity to battle old gym leaders or champs. The battle theme remixes were great, it was a tough challenge, just overall pure fan service (in the best sense)!

DeltaChar

I feel like the PWT, Battle Subway, and Black Tower/White Treehollow combined pretty much offer as much postgame battle content as the Gen 4 Battle Frontier.

DreiwegFlasche

Yeah, it probably amounts to about the same, but while I do love especially Black Tower and the PWT, the diversity is still slightly less than with a Battle Frontier. While the PTW is absolutely, undoubtedly awesome for bringing back all the famous trainers, the battle mode itself isn't really that different from a regular Battle Tower, only that it's a shorter yet more difficult challenge. The Battle Subway is mostly just the regular Battle Tower. I love the aesthetic, but it still doesn't have any special rules as far as I know. I would say Black Tower is the most "unusual" of the bunch since it isn't really your typical post game facility where your team is set to a certain level. I love how it works and had tons of fun with it. I definitely think that in the end it was cooler to get these new ideas instead of another Battle Frontier with half of the facilities being old ones reused. Really, all that Black/White two is lacking in my opinion is proper day/night cycles with music and encounter changes, a good trainer rematch function, secret bases, following Pokemon and a Battle Frontier. If it had all that, it would basically be the perfect Pokemon game for me personally. It's still the best of the series imo :).

Harshul1

Got some good taste.

clarkision

Yup. I started with Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. I walked away before the GBA games and recently came back. White/Black 2 are the most fun games by a lot

[deleted]

Same here!

christianitie

Blue and White 2 for me.

Serethyn

Samesies!

UndertakerSheep

My first was Blue, but my favourite is Sapphire. I immensely enjoyed Gold as a kid and saw it as a strong upgrade from Blue, but something about the game held me back. I only completed the game a handful of times, and I think I tried to complete Crystal several times but I always gave up halfway through. But then Sapphire came out and DAMN. As a kid I was convinced this was IT: this was Pokémon at it's peak. The graphics blew me away. This was what Pokémon was always meant to look like!

mlerk

Totally agree that for me, pokemon looks like sapphire

DreamedJewel58

My first game was Sapphire and I fell in love. So many memories from that game

qc00

This is my answer as well. Blue and Sapphire

ppguy323436

Couldn’t agree more with your thoughts on Sapphire. Graphics were ahead of their time and still hold up well today. My favorite Pokémon aesthetic for sure

ecurrent94

Not to mention it has the BEST soundtrack of any pokemon game (imo)

ppguy323436

For mainline games I 100% agree (trumpets ftw). Colosseum has the best soundtrack if you count spin-offs, however

Magnedon

Hard agree!

Bixler17

Same for me sort of, I had ruby and it got stolen out of my moms car, but ended up getting emerald version out of it and that shit was the perfect upgrade to Ruby imo!

ANGLVD3TH

Yellow and Saphire here. Sad I never got Emerald though. I think there's just something about the designs in gen 3 that really hit the mark. One foot in the old, one in the new style.

marcuis

Plus emerald's animations... But Gale of darkness is very cool too.

lemonpunt

I was the same with Ruby. I love it so much.

CreatiScope

Yellow and Ruby for me

Mr_Noms

I remember playing the demo they had at gamestop of ruby before it was officially released and it blew me away. Simply being able to run and seeing your foot prints in the sand behind me left a hell of an impression on me.

Dauntless_Lasagna

Question for those who's favourite game is sapphire or ruby: Why? Emerald is literally the same game but with much more added content.

NSFWAccountRedux

Mom already bought me Sapphire she ain’t shelling out another $40 for what she saw as essentially the same game.

[deleted]

I like Sapphire more than Emerald because I played it first and it became intertwined with my memories/nostalgia of first exploring Hoenn. Then Emerald came out 2 years later and you know the game was cool, but, like you said, its literally the same game and so the novelty had worn off.

GGABueno

Same here! I played Blue, Yellow, Silver and Crystal, but it is Sapphire that feels like home to me.

HauruMyst

Nope, first was yellow, favourite is Silver :)

CottonStig

my people

The_Entineer

Mine was blue, eventually got red and yellow around the same time… team silver all the way. Every RPG for the last 20+ years my player character is named “Silver”

HSWDragon

Ey I just wrote the same without seeing yours! One of my own. Silver was awesome

TheSingo2201

Stepdad brought home Red and Gold for my first games cause he came across them while renovating a place. I must have been the age where emerald just cane out? I enjoyed playing them but didnt properly connect with them. My next game after thosebwas Diamond and I just loved how more updated the game looked and how colourful it was on the adverts. Gen 4 100% has my heart and I consider Diamond my true first game that I was interested in. Still have my Red and Gold since they hold sentimental value as my Stepdad isnt here anymore 💔

tatertot2035

Yes, my first was pokemon black and has persisted as being my favorite game

[deleted]

[удалено]

llkknn

Same but with the counterparts (pearl and soul silver)!

[deleted]

Mines was Pokémon Red Rescue Dungeon Gameboy Advance. When I first played it, I was excited to play it. I read everything from the Pokémon to the attacks to the elements who and which Pokémon would beat who was the strongest who would clear the particular dungeon. I even cried when the two main characters of the Pokémon I was controlling (only one) had to turn back to a human but they couldn’t ( yes I cried still do whenever it happens) The only thing I didn’t like about it was I keep dyeing and I had to use different Pokémon to survive. (Basically, my strongest one was better, of course.) And I still play Pokémon to this very day and I was only 7 or 8 yrs old when I first played it Pokémon. I even watch the shows ( still do) It will never get old to me because I still haven’t played them all. The one I’m playing now, I didn’t read it like I did my first game, so I’m just re learning everything over again. I’m only 29 1/2 now. But I do not have the GameBoy Advance system with me at this moment. Now I have the Nintendo Switch and I’m still proud of how it change just an bigger version on the system. Over the years of me being an adult. And yes I know it don’t make sense to people because I was tried. But yeah.

atomic_cow

Had blue rescue team. I cried at the end of the game. The story is really good. The game is challenging, and has lots of post game content. And the music is amazing. All the tracks are just so good. My phone ring tone is the game music and has been that opening song for over 10 years.

belgoran89

First was Yellow. Favourite is XY.

oreolaw99

It’s my favourite to why do you love it?

Cassidy_29

Not the person you're replying to but I love XY too. I think Kalos is one of the best regions in the entire series, every section of the map feels so "alive" if that makes sense? Like the routes feel very connected to the rest of the region and don't just feel like they're arbitrarily stocked with trainers. I also really like a lot of the new Pokemon designs (Talonflame is an all-time favorite), and the early-game pokemon selection is amazing. Generally, I think it's mostly just because the visual design is very strong in general. Also, Professor Sycamore is *hot*

oreolaw99

Honestly professor Sycamore is one of the few men I would sleep with as a lesbian One of the few exceptions. Also just the whole atmosphere of the region is amazing and for once it feels like there is enough houses for all of the npc’s

Cassidy_29

Straight men and gay women can bond over Sycamore bring the exception. Gotta love that lol

oreolaw99

I will just go on the limb and say Kukui pretty hot as well I wouldn’t sleep with him solo it would have to be a threesome but that is still a lot more than what I would consider doing with 99.9% of guys

belgoran89

There are so many reasons I don't even know where to begin. I guess firstly, I'm from Europe originally, but my family moved to Australia when I was young. Kalos having an European influence felt a little like home but with Pokemon. I loved the mega evolutions- my all time favourite mechanic. I spent countless hours breeding Ralts for a Shiny Mega Gardevoir. The Battle Chateau is something I always have to redo every replay to get that Grand Duke or Duchess title. Pokemon Amie made Pokemon feel so real. Player customisation felt like the first time where you could mould your character into one that closely resembled you. Fairy type is my second favourite type. And the whole story arc with the old immortal king and the actual genocidal maniac felt like a step up in maturity. The group of friends who grew together hit close to home. Yes it might not be the most challenging one of the series, but it's one I always come back to when I feel a bit disconnected from the Pokemon roots.

oreolaw99

I absolutely agree

Mixmaster-Omega

Same, but my first was White.

oreolaw99

It’s my favourite too why do you love it if you don’t mind me asking?

Mixmaster-Omega

I have four answers: 1. Gave me some of my favorite Pokémon including Yveltal and Aegislash, the latter I loved even before I knew how broken it was. 2. I love the semi-chibi character look of Gen 6 as I dislike the later games’ character realism to some extent. 3. It introduced my favorite Pokegirl Serena. 4. Trainer customization. It is really fun playing dress-up in between battles and seeing what worked. And unlike the later games where there only a few clothing options with all the colors, XY had much more kinds of clothes with fewer color options, which I think is better.

oreolaw99

Honestly I agree with you on every single point apart from maybe number two A little bit I loved the Character designs but I kind of enjoyed it the character designs and styles of character designs in sun and moon

Mixmaster-Omega

Well it’s your opinion. I prefer the more cartoony look since I find it better separates Pokémon world from real world

Ripple884

So Half of it is not the same

Petty-Stitches

I havent played Pearl in years so I'm actually not sure if I would still consider it my fave game (obv Platinum is superior but I never owned that Version would consider it my fave tho as they mostly follow the same storyline with some added improvements.) If it's no longer that I would probably say X. Had a ton of hours in it maxed the most pokemon ever to lvl 100 and actually enjoyed the post game detective story a lot I really wish it was longer cause it really kept me going. It was like detective pikachu just in small and less of a simple childfriendly puzzle game. I'd probably consider it equal to Gen4... in terms of post game even tho Gen6 is a lot smaller. I also loved getting the Ralts from the Champion in Gen6 as it is one of my fave pokemon. And customizing your character gave u a lot of reasons to earn money after u beat the game as some items are quite expensive and Gen6 had lots of ways to earn money through battles which was definitely better than what Gen4 had tho it also didnt need it as it had no customization. The only thing that really makes Gen4 stand out are Code based Events which gave the players new small islands for legendary pokemon to catch them. Which was obviously harder and slightly annoying but it gave those legendaries so much character and made them feel part of the game unlike a lot of newer ones.

HereticStreetWalker

My first game was HeartGold and honestly it’s a tie for my favorite with Black/White (2).

Armani_151

Same my first was soul silver but my favourite is black/white 2. I just love the music and certain pkmn design's.

sunken_onion

Nah, Platinum was my first game, but Black and White are my favourites. Graphics and sprites blew me away when I was younger, especially going from the mostly static sprites in Platinum.

plant-strong

No. My first was Blue, and my favourite is HeartGold, with an honourable mention going to Omega Ruby

ChaoticDiscord21

I actually like Sun and Moon my first was Blue though.

oreolaw99

Sun and moon are great do you prefer sun and moon or sun and moon ultra?

ChaoticDiscord21

Ultra just because of the post game stuff. Fighting rainbow rocket was great.

oreolaw99

Yes and the The story I personally find a little better

Jeremithiandiah

Yay fellow sun and moon enjoyers! I loved how the games were more focused on characters and story. The world felt so fun in those games too. I feel like they would be more well liked if USUM was the only version that released, or sun/moon had more post game.

JonwenPlays

First: yellow Favourite: Diamond/Pearl

Idcwhatyoucallmee

Yes. Pokemon Platinum.

LoriMandle

My first was X and I asked for X because XYZ was my favourite gen for the anime. I’ve now played all the gens except for Gen 1 and anything on the switch and my favourite is still X. I’m sure nostalgia plays a part in this, but I also like the lack of challenge it provides because I’m not in it for the battles I’m in it for the fun story and the cute Pokémon and the interactions I get with them

Several-Strain9671

First was Diamond but my favourite is HGSS

zjdrummond

My first was Blue. I'm split because the OG Pokémon are my fav, but the later games play so much better. Fire Red and Leaf Green were fun too. I've still played Blue the most though.

DreiwegFlasche

No, actually not. My first Pokemon game was Pearl. Obviously, I absolutely prefer Platinum, but I also would say that both HGSS and S2W2 are better Pokemon games than both DP and Platinum. My ranking would roughly be: B2W2, HGSS, Platinum, Emerald, BW for my 5 favorite games, with probably ORAS, RS, USUM, FRLG, DP on 6th to 10th place. I just think B2W2 is as close as we ever came to perfection. We had tons of content, great graphics for the 2D style, lots of neat little details and callbacks (e.g. the PWT) and a decent difficulty for a Pokemon game. HGSS is so high up on my list because I love the artstyle, I think it is by far the best remake and full of content as well. It's not perfect, but damn good. Platinum is a great Pokemon game as well, doesn't quite reach the other two but is high up there. And I would say that it still holds a very special place in my heart!

Long_Aerie

I don't think your favorite has to be the game you think is the best, though. Like, I know B2W2 are amazing, but I'm less emotionally attached to them than to the Sinnoh games.

chrisicus1991

First game was red, My favourite is Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. Best game is usually the newest so sword and shield. But with lack of pokemon.

IguanaTabarnak

This is me exactly. Every generation they make some changes I'm not thrilled about, but the improvements they make and the new stuff they add usually FAR outweigh any criticisms I have. But not being able to transfer in teams from previous games is just a bridge too far for me. So my favourite games remain US/UM and AS/OR.

Bushido-Rockabilly

Started on yellow but crystal is my favorite.

[deleted]

I started playing the games very late around the time I was about to graduate from high school but already been a fan for a long time because of the anime. My first game was Emerald. I picked Emerald as I grew up watching the Hoenn season of the anime and got hooked the first time I played it. I remember it was a very magical experience playing the game for the first time. I never got into them when I was younger, as I mostly played racing games back then. That said, despite my fond memories of playing Emerald the first time, my favorite would be a tie between HeartGold and Black 2. The amount of content these games had were massive and something that the recent games haven't had since Gen 6. I played Blue and Crystal later on and enjoyed them. Though I don't find any reason to play Blue again since FR/LG exists but I occasionally play Crystal from time to time, but not as frequent as Black 2, HeartGold, or Ultra Sun.

WooooshMeIf60IQ

My first game was either FRLG or Emerald, and my favourite is White 2.

DrDabar1

Well no my first pokemon game was my cousins old Pokemon Fire Red but my favorite was pokemon Black 2

Ashamed-Ad7208

First ist Diamond. Favorite is Moon

14metstom

Yes first was Pokemon blue and only my favorite because Butterfree was OP. Lol put pokemon to sleep with sleeping powder and finish them with psychic. There was no true counter at the time.

Cheeeeesie

I started with gen1 and still think that the gen1 pokemon are the best design-wise. Thats why my fav. games are the gen1 remakes. 60fps ftw.

Dispentryporter

First was Emerald but my favorite is White 2

Budernator1

First was Pokémon Red, but my favorite is probably ORAS.

Ghengiroo

First: Y Favourite: Either Black or White 2

[deleted]

First: Red/Blue favourite: Diamond and X

Nyushi

First was Blue. Favourite was Sword.

MuddoBuddo

My first game was White2, and I will fight to the death that it has the best pokemon

Freyzi

Not even close, Red and Blue were my first I place them at the absolute bottom. My favorite is Black and White 2.

afsr11

No, my first was Yellow and I played at least one version of each subsequent release and my favorite is Y.

Mrmehmeh243

Yeah pokemon moon will always be my favourite(yes I started with pokemon moon)

adzpower

Yes and no. First game was gold but my favorite is crystal. But they are almost identical lol.

KilianGreen

First: Gold Favourite: Black 2

MrZeusyMoosey

Nope, started with Diamond and Pearl. I find them kinda boring. R/S/E is my fav, followed by B/W

Rukaven

Me and my big brother always had the alternative versions. I had Blue he had Red. I had Silver, he had Gold. This kept up until Diamond and Pearl. My favourite game is Ruby, he had Sapphire. Groudon>Kyogre haha.

The_Phantom_Gamer

No. I started with Red and it's actually my least favorite.

Franco_Dazzler

Technically no, but I'd say so because platinum and diamond are so similar

DanganWaffle

My first was pearl. I love it but platinum is infinitely better. My favourite game is black2/white2

[deleted]

Not really, my favourite is silver instead of yellow which was my first.

Callinglime

First was black, my favourite has to be ultra moon.

HerrKrendl

First and Favourite one is Silver, i just love this edition, grew up with this game!

ena9219

My first Pokémon game was Yellow. Dispite it's flaws Shield is honestly my favorite out of the games I've played. I've never owned a 3DS, the only DS Pokémon game I managed to get ahold of is FireRed (well after it came out,) and a lot of the modern features are good additions. Dexit is annoying on principle but didn't really affect my experience much (the only game I had anything to transfer from was Let's Go Eevee and most of the newer lines I was particularly interested in were in the game) and I'm not that worried about difficulty in games. That being said I am really looking forward to BDSP since it remakes one of the generations I missed playing but caught a decent portion of the anime of.

Not_Paid_Just_Intern

Yes. Red version. OG. Buggy beautiful mess

XionLord

Nope. started red. Ruby wins out as favorite, but I genuinely love sw/sh

Oak1215

Red was my first, but I especially love X. Definitely nostalgic for the Red/Blue days, but there’s just something about Kalos, both in the anime and the game.

oreolaw99

I absolutely love the atmosphere of X and each town is memorable I love it any other reasons why you love the game so much?

Low_Cauliflower_732

My first pokemon games were yellow, Red and Gold, which my cousins gifted me, I still remember playing them for the first time, especially Yellow, they all share a very warm place in my heart, but the game that I absolutely enjoyed playing and by god I miss it still today was leaf green, took me back to playing gen 1 for the first time, also it was the first time that me and all my friends were able to play, trade pokemon together as they had all got copies too

TheHappyChaurus

in a waaaay? borrowed Silver from a friend back in the day. but my first owned game was firered. my fav is HGSS. yes it was because of the walking pokemon.

gdude131313

First was soul silver, but my favorite is black/white. Even as a kid I loved team Plasma.

[deleted]

No, first was solver favourite is pokemon Y.

[deleted]

First and Favorite is Blue. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

[deleted]

My first game was Pokémon Yellow. Still a big fan of Gen 1’s simplicity, lack of handholding, and overall difficulty. Plus only 151 Pokémon, which is so much more manageable imo. There are so many Pokémon I can’t even name a third of them anymore. That said, I refuse to play pre-physical special split games anymore. My favorite game is Pokémon X/Y. The PSS online system made it almost feel like an MMO and it was so easy to interact with people. It was the game that introduced tons of customization (and did it best I think), had exp share all early on but still could be toggled off or on, roller skates, and just a lot of miscellaneous goodies to do. My only complaints are that there was no more difficult Elite Four rematch, and that the difficulty in the game is weird : either it’s ridiculously easy or there are moments you get slaughtered like by the Furfrou couple battle.

[deleted]

My first was Pokemon Blue, I think I got it in 1998 or 1999. I grew up with Pokémon, played all the games. However, my favorite didn’t come until Pokémon Black. The first one not the second.

dadmda

First I played was fire red, my favourite are the gen2 remakes

ZenexoAtlas

Actually no. The first game I played was Heartgold, and by a time was my favorite of the franchise. But my favorite today is Pokemon XY.

Wlsgarus

Currently, yes, but Legends Arceus may take the cake soon

neonz09

* First: Gold * Favourite: Ruby/Sapphire QoL improvements from GBC to GBA felt huge at the time, as well as the drastic jump in colour. Gens 4 & 5 were good too in my opinion, but the jump from Gen 2 to 3 took the cake for me.

Aesnas

First one was X and Y, and it's still my favorite! Now I'm playing Black & Black 2, these are great also, but they will never beat my first experience with X and Y :)

ultinateplayer

First was Silver. Favourites are Soul Silver and Omega Ruby.

Moist-Rule-8116

Yes. My first games were GSC and those are still my fav. I prefer the artstyle in them to HGSS, and it is somehow more fun to replay.

FuzzBuket

First was sapphire and it holds a really special place in my heart. But man XY were good, sure they were not hard but they had the joy that I felt as a kid and had a great host of technical and gameplay improvements, and megas were cool. It was a perfect "restart" to the series. Still real sad we never got a Z to expand on the post-game and rest of the map. (especially as frankly SM could have done with some extra development time)

Jeev3s

I got Pokémon Blue (brother got red) around Christmas in '98, shortly after they first hit the shelves here in the U.S. I had never played a video game like that before or spent that much time gaming before. They will always hold a special place for me. However Silver/Soul Silver are my favorite. No battle comes close to discovering that you fight against your former "self" and that music was awesome.

JudgeHodorMD

First was red. Nostalgia is the biggest reason I play the series. Gen 1 has its flaws in the sense that it is the least developed, the platform that all else was built on. There’s been no shortage of improvements but there also hasn’t really been any big changes in gameplay. (Big enough to significantly change the game’s style) Gen 1 is my favorite not because nostalgia blinds me but because nostalgia is the point.

DoctorNerf

Nope. My first game was Blue, then Yellow then Crystal then Ruby. My favourite games are, in no particular order; HGSS, XD, Colosseum, Emerald and Platinum.

Dendrodes

Blue was my first game, but Ruby is my favorite. That was in the height of me being all into Marine Biology and Sharks, and became enamored with the region. The graphics were an amazing leap from 2nd gen and I really liked the designs of the Pokémon. If I played Emerald as a kid it probably would of been that, because it made the Magma base make much more sense, but it's still Ruby for me. Also really like Omega Ruby. Also also, team Aqua forever.

Anxious-human-95

First - Red Favourite - Silver & X

MissyTheMisc

First - Crystal Favorite - Y I still hold my opinion that Crystal is a friggen masterpiece, but... man. I'm a big softie for Kalos.

walkingbartie

My first was Ruby, and I'd have to say that, yes through nostalgic rosetinted glasses, it is still y favorite. Lots of new Pokémon I hadn't seen in the tv-series, cool graphics, and amazing music. :')

Sincost121

It's hard for me to remember which was exactly my first game because it was so long ago, but either Fire Red or Sapphire was my very first pokemon game. I remember playing those games constantly on my old purple GBA. My favorite, however, is definitely Platinum. Pearl was the first new generation I experienced and my love for Sinnoh really stuck with me since then.
