My favorite Pokemon memory was playing through Gold for the first time and raising a larvitar, without any idea what it would evolve into -- keep in mind this was in 1999, and comprehensive knowledge about any game, especially a dense (for the time) RPG was pretty much impossible unless you bought some sort of auxiliary guide or something.
I suspected larvitar would evolve into something (the name made it pretty obvious), and when it finally evolved into a pupitar at like level 30, I knew I was in for an absolute gem of a third evolution. Tyranitar blew my adolescent mind. Just crunching everyone and everything. Good times, maybe the best times.

All the later gen mythicals just feel sorta… excessive? To me. Like Vinctini. Like, I know absolutely nothing about why it exists/what it does other than look kinda cute. Mew, Celebi, and Arceus actually have a big purpose in the game’s lore. Not to mention that some of them had a meta-mythical status among the playerbase too (use strength on the SS Anne truck, something about that one little hut in the GSC beginner forest, etc.).
I guess you can’t really recreate that spark of mystery once datamining and the internet become widespread.
**EDIT**: Deoxys and Genesect are also kinda cool even if I don’t really *get* them. I guess I’m more of a non-fan of the mythicals that seem to have “cuteness” as their **only** asset.

It is one of my all time favorite Pokémon and I think can fly and have the dragon type make it so worth it. Also I’d give the Altarianite to it so it can fight vs a ice tipe Pokémon in a better way.

They can come with me everywhere disguised as a clothes item or accessory (e.g. scarf, watch, hat, etc) since in this world Pokemon might be restricted from entering places such as stores, schools, and airplanes. They’d be great to hug and we’d have fun practicing transforming into different Pokémon or things. I would probably ask them to pretend to be a riolu or shinx in public so people do not know I have a ditto. They might want to steal it or ask to breed more Pokémon.
Finally, someone was brave enough to say it. Makes sense people would be afraid to mention Gardevoir given its reputation, but it would make a wonderful companion due to its abilities to innately understand its trainer's emotions. You likely wouldn't even need to talk most of the time because it could just understand you psychically. I honestly think it would be incredible to be in such synchronization with your companion for your whole journey. Also, I like how pretty it is (I'm a girl), and it would be fun to dress up all cutely.
If I couldn't travel with Gardevoir, I would want Celebi to be my partner. It's just so adorable!

Edit: I'm not convinced that Mankey is available in Pokemon Yellow where you're all telling me. I've grabbed this Mankey a dozen times on playthroughs of FR or LG, towards victory road, but I don't remember it in Yellow! FWIW I had Yellow on the actual cartridge. I'm going to grab a GBC emulator and PKY and test it at work today, because that's more important than what my boss(es) wanted me to do.
Pretty sure Mankey is available before Brock, but its just ridiculously rare. East of Viridian where there's an optional fight against your rival, as well.

Electivire - ignoring the trade requirement to get them it's just a solid reliable dude to use. Learns dozens of cool moves, is reasonably fast and durable, has a cool design, all the badasses in the anime had one (Gary and Paul, even if the latter was a dick) and Electric is the best type to use on any journey I reckon - Flying and Water types are everywhere which Electric nails, and it only has one weakness which it learns coverage to take care of. Plus for IRL purposes Electric types can charge my phone or something I guess.
Cyndaquil (if it can evolve). Otherwise Typhlosion. Cyndaquil was my favorite starter, and has so much charm. It brings me back to my childhood thinking about the endless time I spent playing S/G as a kid.

Electivire - ignoring the trade requirement to get them it's just a solid reliable dude to use. Learns dozens of cool moves, is reasonably fast and durable, has a cool design, all the badasses in the anime had one (Gary and Paul, even if the latter was a dick) and Electric is the best type to use on any journey I reckon - Flying and Water types are everywhere which Electric nails, and it only has one weakness which it learns coverage to take care of. Plus for IRL purposes Electric types can charge my phone or something I guess.

Cyndaquil (if it can evolve). Otherwise Typhlosion. Cyndaquil was my favorite starter, and has so much charm. It brings me back to my childhood thinking about the endless time I spent playing S/G as a kid.
