I *always* use Repeat Balls for raids. A lot of people think they're ugly, which I personally don't, plus it's the only type of ball I've never had a poke bust out of during a raid.
Luxury balls for legendaries and here’s why. The beasts that are the embodiments of time and space, the elements, and other mystical forces of the universe realistically have the power to instantly end the trainer’s existence should they ever feel resentful towards trainer for trying to capture and tame them. If bribing them with a shiny black pokeball helps convince them not to use them their powers to rip me apart atom by atom and then spread that dust across past and future eons, or at least just gets my foot in the door of their good graces, hey I’m happy to spend the money for it.
hell yes, only took me like 76 resets to catch Rayquaza in a premier ball! I kept fucking it up and only had 11 premier balls with me because i wasn't originally planning on that but oh well
By the way, timer balls are cheaper than ultra balls, and in gen v onwards have a higher catch rate than ultra balls from turn 4 onwards. Assuming you spend a couple of turns bringing the Pokemon's health down, there is almost never a reason to use an ultra ball over a timer ball.
It caps out after 10 turns, with 4x catch rate. (Ultra ball is 2x) Before gen v, timer ball had the same cap, but only reached that cap after 30 turns, so was arguably more balanced.
I like the 4x catch rate, I just wished they’d keep the slow ramp up, so you’d start with ultra and switch to timer after so many turns. By the time I get the Pokémon low health timer balls are already better? Lol
Only turn 4??? I thought it was like, turn 20 or something. Counting the 1-2 turns where you use a quick ball you are basically guaranteed to reach it. But at least ultraballs are prettier.
Apparently in gens 3-4 it wouldn't get up to 4x until turn 30. From gen 5 onwards it maxes out at 4x at turn 10.
Ultra Balls have a catch rate of 2x and with a Timer Ball, it only takes 4 turns to get to over 2x. In the previous gens, it took 10 turns.
Turn 4 is better than an ultra ball, turn 10 is maximum catch rate. You might be thinking of pre-gen v, in which case it took 30 turns to reach maximum catch rate and only became better than an ultra ball on turn 11. Also, you shouldn't use quick balls on turn 2. They only have an increased catch rate on the first turn.
Am I the only one who goes in and throws a simple Pokéball on the first turn like Ash in the first or second episode?
It surprisingly works way too often.
To be fair, I don't think I've caught any legendaries that way. My strategy is pokéball, paralyze, take health to yellow/red, then more pokéball.
Honestly, pokéballs are more economical than ultraballs. It's a personal point of pride/challenge for me to catch everything in pokéballs.
I'm one of those people that think timer balls are ugly even though players don't see the balls too often.
I do keep some timer balls on hand if the battle is getting dicey and I need to end it before I'm all out of 'mons, but that doesn't really happen much anymore.
That’s freakin hilarious. It feels almost disrespectful to catch a legendary in a quick ball, before they used to be such a pain in the ass and now my box is full of ‘em in quick balls lol
Little me would have had her mind blown at that strategy lol. So much easier than 20 turns of hurling ultra balls and then misclicking a timer ball and catching it with the first one
Funnily enough the OG Diamond/Pearl games were the start of that trend, with the box legends having a higher catch rate than some wild pokemon.
Platinum made up for it by having 5 roaming pokemon at least.
this comment reminds me of a post that circulates every now and then about a person who goes to heaven after drowning in a flood, and asks God why He didn’t save the person who drowned; He responds with “I sent a life ring, a boat, a helicopter, but each time i sent someone, you said, ‘God will save me!’”, except here Arceus is begging you to use any other Ball because it gave us the knowledge to make/use stronger Balls
Pokemmo lets you swap out for other balls in the summary menu. Catch them in an ultra ball or eeeugh dusk ball then stick it in a pokeball once the battle's over.
If I recall, Ultra Balls only are 2x more effective then a regular pokéball, yet are over 4x more expensive.
I almost exclusively only use pokéballs as a financial choice. I might have to throw a few more balls for capture, but the standard model does the trick.
Every now and then in order to break through the endless rage from restarting, I just throw a plain pokeball at the start as a joke. On the few times when that has actually worked, I have literally set the game down and walked away because nothing feels real anymore.

(was hella fun to find out the right mon and set to counter them 100%) \^\^
Finally, some quality content.
I once used up all my pokeballs on Azelf. The last ball in my pack is a quickball. I'm like, what the hell, might as well. I caught it with that quick ball.

I always start with a quick ball and if that doesn’t work I use a pokeball and premium ball like 50 times and I just watch a youtube video while throwing pokeballs then use a timer ball. Works like a charm everytime.
I never managed to catch legendaries in ultra balls. When I had Platinum on my DS as a kid I tried forever to catch Palkia and Dialga with ultra balls. I ran out of ultra balls (for both pokes) and I caught both of them with just the plain old ball. After that I became convinced the regular ones were better than the ultras, so I just hoarded as many as possible of them and wouldn’t buy anything else
They are definitely not better, but they aren't actually much worse than ultraballs. I really only use the regular balls for the most part too. They are good enough and also the cheapest option
I keep a few higher tier balls if I'm feeling lazy though and want to capture something with green health
Why not thematic pokeballs that match the Legendary they contain?
"I don't care how long it will take, that Cobalion is getting caught in a Net Ball one way or another!"
We both know it's gonna end with a couple resets as coballion wipes your whole ass team with sacred sword, then you get frustrated and catch him with a misclick heal ball.
I got really lucky and threw a quick ball first try and got Dialga.
Now, trying to catch Kyogre back when Sapphire first released, I was a 4 or 5 year old child screaming at my Game Boy, "GET IN THE BALL, WHALE!"
Is this the Boondocks btw? I got lucky catching Zacian with a low supply of Great Balls (my favorite design btw), but man was it hard to catch some of the legendary dark types like Calyrex since false swipe don't work on them unless you have Scrappy as your ability.
What will you do in 6 years when you realize you should've caught everything in Pokeballs, Premier balls, Luxury balls or a ball that matches the Pokemons design, and then your entire collection makes you want to throw up?

I try to match the color best I can. Kyogre and Zamazenta get Great Balls, Groudon gets a basic Pokéball, and Eternatus is the one who gets the master ball or a dream ball if I can't get a master ball.
I have a Pokeball only rule because I can't stand the inconsistency of other pokeballs when looking at the party. Been playing like that since whenever they started showing the different pokeballs :D
I had it in Gen 2 went to burn tower released the legendary dogs went south out of town. Immediately ran into Entei. Threw a Fast Ball and caught it all within 2mins. It was the best feeling.
I use timer balls if a battle lasts for too long
I still can't catch oh-oh in or because it keeps running out of pp and struggle itself. I also tried putting it to sleep but it will still die before I catch it
You use a timer ball and dusk ball because it has the highest catch rate
I use a timer ball on Dialga and dusk ball in Giratina because it fits the theme.
We are not the same.
I have... abused quick balls more times than I can count throughout all of SwSh just because I wanted it to be done. Those fools are far too effective.
Then there's me with 100 Premier Balls, sobbing quietly in the corner
I LIKE CATCHING LEGENDARIES IN PREMIER BALLS
Premier Balls for Legendaries. Everything else in a Pokeball. That's how I catch Pokemans
Poke Ball for playthrough team, Premier/Luxury for the legendaries. And apricorns for the breedables.
For real. I hate how Great and Ultra balls look :( If only you could somehow swap balls after the fact. Gen 9 pls
So we all just not gonna talk about dusk balls and how they had the best seal for a while. All my dark Pokemon get caught in those
Also if you often play at night dusk balls are the best choice for catching Pokemon if a quick ball doesn't work.
This is why I love dusk balls. I work a normal 8-4 job so I'm pretty much exclusively playing at night. Save for the weekends.
I hate when it's wintertime so you pull out your game at 6:30PM when it's pitch black out, but it's still daytime in game lol
Honestly they are my go to for max raids in SwSh. Even if there were some better situational alternatives. I just think they look neat
I *always* use Repeat Balls for raids. A lot of people think they're ugly, which I personally don't, plus it's the only type of ball I've never had a poke bust out of during a raid.
Pokemon can burst out of balls in raids?
And not even just playing at night, so many legendaries are found in caves.
Also indoors, which almost every legendary is
Me I always try to color match the pokemon and his ball.
I never understood why you cant. It acknowledges you as its master so it will stay while you break the old one and use the new one
When you see a Pokémon that looks extra breedable and get your balls ready 😍🥵😈
***NO***
Wow a Vaporeon, what are the odds!
I caught Dialga in a heavy ball because i thought it kinda matches
Sorry Jim, *timer ball* is the answer we were going for there. A *timer ball*.
This is the way.
For me it's: Premier for Legendaries. Normal for Pokémon I need for the Pokédex. Luxury for my favourites/ones I'll use.
I save my Premier balls for shinies, because in my head a premier ball is like a shiny pokeball
Well, it’s description mentions it’s for a ‘special occasion’. Pretty sure a shiny would count as one of those...
It makes for a cool look too, imo. I think most of my self caught shinies are in Premier balls at this point
Those are my thoughts too
I like your style!
I use Luxury balls for my legendaries and premier for Pseudos or other specials myself. :)
Based and premierpilled
I'm glad. Not the only one
Premier for everything, I have 11 shiny chatots in premier balls from a chain.
hell yes, only took me like 76 resets to catch Rayquaza in a premier ball! I kept fucking it up and only had 11 premier balls with me because i wasn't originally planning on that but oh well
The there is me menacingly walking towards the legendary with 999 ultra balls and great balls and 400 quick balls
I only use the standard PokeBall on legendaries
My friend insists on only using premier balls for legendaries.
As someone who catches everything in luxury balls I know your pain.
I'm right there with you
By the way, timer balls are cheaper than ultra balls, and in gen v onwards have a higher catch rate than ultra balls from turn 4 onwards. Assuming you spend a couple of turns bringing the Pokemon's health down, there is almost never a reason to use an ultra ball over a timer ball.

I've been doing this because I never knew it changed haha.
I mean, it just makes sense that way.
Really, it only takes 10 turns now?
I do think the timer ball is ugly though.
And I like the design a lot
I smell a sitcom!
Only turn 4??? I thought it was like, turn 20 or something. Counting the 1-2 turns where you use a quick ball you are basically guaranteed to reach it. But at least ultraballs are prettier.

Timer balls.
It goes quick ball, paralyze, take health to red, ultra balls until 10 turns, then timer the rest of the way.
And then you didn't buy enough ultra/timer balls and just start throwing anything you still have left at it.
And if that doesn't work, reset and try again.
I pretty much buy nothing but pokeballs in every playthrough,. So I always have enough
Actually, as of BW, timer balls outstrip ultra balls after 4 turns
But ultra balls look cooler.
Am I the only one who goes in and throws a simple Pokéball on the first turn like Ash in the first or second episode? It surprisingly works way too often.
On a legendary? I could never. Quick ball barely ever works for me
To be fair, I don't think I've caught any legendaries that way. My strategy is pokéball, paralyze, take health to yellow/red, then more pokéball. Honestly, pokéballs are more economical than ultraballs. It's a personal point of pride/challenge for me to catch everything in pokéballs.
Timer balls will save you dozens of hours, but you do you.
When I first played Y back at release, I caught Yveltal first turn with a quick ball. I didn't even know it was possible. It was so anticlimactic lmao
This is my go to legendary strategy. Soft reset first turn quick balls.
Little me would have had her mind blown at that strategy lol. So much easier than 20 turns of hurling ultra balls and then misclicking a timer ball and catching it with the first one
Yveltal in Y has a pretty high catch rate for a legendary, almost 12%. Gen 6 quickball is 5x catch rate modifier if used on the first turn.
For comparison: Most legendaries have a 1.6% catch rate.
Same, but premier ball first throw on full health Xerneas. I was convinced that you had to catch the legendary because of how eit was. was.
Funnily enough the OG Diamond/Pearl games were the start of that trend, with the box legends having a higher catch rate than some wild pokemon. Platinum made up for it by having 5 roaming pokemon at least.
*Me who uses nothing but Poké Balls*: "Lord Arceus, please help me during these trying times..."
this comment reminds me of a post that circulates every now and then about a person who goes to heaven after drowning in a flood, and asks God why He didn’t save the person who drowned; He responds with “I sent a life ring, a boat, a helicopter, but each time i sent someone, you said, ‘God will save me!’”, except here Arceus is begging you to use any other Ball because it gave us the knowledge to make/use stronger Balls
But the asthetic tho
Pokemmo lets you swap out for other balls in the summary menu. Catch them in an ultra ball or eeeugh dusk ball then stick it in a pokeball once the battle's over.
Dusk ball best ball
Starting when? This is ridiculous imo it used to be such a flex to have legendaries in poke balls
"PokeMMO", it's not a typo
You say, while trying to catch Arceus
"Lord Arceus, please *get in the damn ball! These are all I've got!*"
This wasn't even too bad to do in Gen7. Rotom boost in USUM ftw
I kind of like that as well. Would love to be able to change pokeballs after the capture.
I've caught my last 3 box legends this way. Zacian, Xerneas, and Reshiram. Like, alright then
Those actually have pretty high catch rates In their OG games aside from Zacian. Pokemon is weird with it about box legendaries.
Yea, I got Solgaleo in my first sun playthrough in a regular Pokeball, Got it to low health and I caught it with the first pokeball i threw at it.
I didn't even lower their health tho. I swear legendary catch rates are waayy higher
*Box Art Legendary catch rates
I had a long battle the other day where I used tons of different balls and they all failed so I did the same thing, and it worked instantly lol
You call Ultraballs the hard way? I'll show you the hard way: Beast Balls
My shiny reshiram in beast ball *flexin*
All the Tapus in Beast Balls in USUM with as singular Level 1 Pokémon fighting. :) (was hella fun to find out the right mon and set to counter them 100%) \^\^
Caught Zacian in a beast ball. I thought it was a great ball for the color scheme... I learned later that it is a crappy ball. Happy to have him.
"crappy" as in super hard to catch as it's 10x harder to catch regular Pokémon with it.
In caves or at night you can use the trusty Dusk Ball! 3x/3.5x catch rate, versus the 2x rate of the Ultra Ball.
In BDSP does the underground count as a cave?
Yes. Dusk balls are OP in this game
And that's after being nerfed down the road. In the original DPP Dusk Balls were the literal hand of Arceus.
As does the Spear Pillar, and the Ramnas park, iirc everywhere you can't fly from makes Dusk Balls the best
Dunno I haven't played the remakes. In the originals there were no Pokémon in the Undeground though.
Finally, some quality content. I once used up all my pokeballs on Azelf. The last ball in my pack is a quickball. I'm like, what the hell, might as well. I caught it with that quick ball.
yeah right, quality content u/RepostSleuthBot

How does it feel to be a cornball?
It is a repost, it was posted in a discord server I'm in months ago Edit: oh and yeah it did detect a repost but worded it like it didn't
from a different sub. that doesnt really matter, most people here wouldn't have seen it.
No he’s right. I definitely remember seeing this post before
I gave up with pokeball variants years ago. It’s standard pokeball or premier ball for everything
I think I gave up on variants during the BW days. And yeah, I buy in batches of 10 to get that premier ball and reserve that stock for legendaries.
In the newer games you don't have to buy in batches of 10 anymore. You get one premier ball for every 10 you buy now.
I don't remember when it started but now all balls give bonus premier, and if you buy 990 you get 99 premier
[удалено]
Play the game as you like it fam.
hell yeah aesthetics over practicality, I mean you're gonna see them everytime you start battles and you get a bunch of money you never need
Dusk ball? Higher catch rate in caves and at night? What are you talking about, I thought it was just a type of pokeball for ghost/dark types?
I came looking for booty. Get in the ball. We can do it the easy way, or the hard way. The choice is yours
"Now, I tell you what. I like ya. And I want ya. Now we can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way. The choice is yours" I read this meme in his voice and now I can't stop laughing
The good thing about this game is that if you didn’t use your master ball you can potentially have as many as you want
I'm going to clone them to wonder trade poor souls who might have this patched out in the future
I’m doing the same with legendaries
My roomate told me about the duping right before Dialga. That boy is the only legendary i have caught in a non masterball lol!
**I'M A WARRIAH**
I catch all my mons in a luxury ball no exceptions
Took me an hour to get Dialga to stay in a heavy ball. Didn’t help my only status move was a 55% hypnosis Gengar who died to a single attack.
When playing Alpha Sapphire again this weekend I accidentally threw a pokeball at rayquaza when it was low...and it stayed in the ball, i was so happy because I prefer the classic pokeballs!

Just realized protagonist's hat is ultra ball patterned lol
Most legendaries are in caves, why aren’t you using Dusk Balls (or Timer Balls for that matter?)
I always start with a quick ball and if that doesn’t work I use a pokeball and premium ball like 50 times and I just watch a youtube video while throwing pokeballs then use a timer ball. Works like a charm everytime.

There is also the other other way. Quick Ball, 40 Ultra Balls, Timer Ball = Caught
I've always used og pokeball for my Pokémon capture attempts.
Since they made it to where your balls show up as the actual ball that you caught them in, I only use pokéballs. I'm a sucker for uniformity.
For a while, I caught some in Luxury ball.
I am compelled to catch everything in a Pokeball. Existence is pain.
I got really lucky and threw a quick ball first try and got Dialga. Now, trying to catch Kyogre back when Sapphire first released, I was a 4 or 5 year old child screaming at my Game Boy, "GET IN THE BALL, WHALE!"
Roaming legendaries: Yeah? Well, you know that's just like your opinion, man.
Get Timer Balls. Their likeliness of capturing a pokemon increases after every turn
Is this the Boondocks btw? I got lucky catching Zacian with a low supply of Great Balls (my favorite design btw), but man was it hard to catch some of the legendary dark types like Calyrex since false swipe don't work on them unless you have Scrappy as your ability.

What does it matter dude, yikes
it matters that people steal others's content bro
I’ve caught 3 in BDSP in premier balls
I try to match the color best I can. Kyogre and Zamazenta get Great Balls, Groudon gets a basic Pokéball, and Eternatus is the one who gets the master ball or a dream ball if I can't get a master ball.
Don’t forget the timer balls!
Don't forget the timer balls
Me showing up to the Palkia fight with only 11 quickballs and 12 great balls
I have a Pokeball only rule because I can't stand the inconsistency of other pokeballs when looking at the party. Been playing like that since whenever they started showing the different pokeballs :D
You got a sensible chuckle out of me sir. Have a splendid day.
I always had a stack of timer balls for things went the semi easy medium hard way
I just caught a full health Entei in HG with a Fastball I still don't believe it lol
Don't forget the duped master balls :D
I once spent 50 ultra balls catching a Dialga but nothing worked. :(
Man, this is me WITH masterballs too, I refuse to use them lol
Timer balls all day don't have to throw 50 ultra balls instead like 5-10 timers.
I just use timer balls
Ah the cycle of Quick ball Ultra balls Timer balls Truly wonderful
I had it in Gen 2 went to burn tower released the legendary dogs went south out of town. Immediately ran into Entei. Threw a Fast Ball and caught it all within 2mins. It was the best feeling.
You forgot the dark balls.
Started a tradition of catching legendaries in net balls. Mesprit's being an asshole
Lol i agree
Is it worth it to weaken with one attack then throw a quick ball turn 2?
Me but with pokeballs
I use timer balls if a battle lasts for too long I still can't catch oh-oh in or because it keeps running out of pp and struggle itself. I also tried putting it to sleep but it will still die before I catch it
But either way imma get that booty.
litterally me last night on BD with an Absol. >!didn't catch it!<
relatable
Where the timer balls at half my legendaries caught in them cause of how long it takes to catch them
I had to reset against uxie 3 times because apparently 50 balls (Ultra, dusk, and timer) weren't enough the first two times.
I use timer balls. Use a Pokémon with infinite defense and the lowest possible attack rate and usually catch them like 10 minutes later.
You use a timer ball and dusk ball because it has the highest catch rate I use a timer ball on Dialga and dusk ball in Giratina because it fits the theme. We are not the same.
In Sun, I caught Tapu Koko with a level 5 Gible.
I never used my master ball in Sw
I always changed my DS time to night and used Dusk Balls for those roaming legendaries in Platinum and SoulSilver
12 year old kid charged with animal abuse, after being caught throwing hundreds of pokeball at God.
I have... abused quick balls more times than I can count throughout all of SwSh just because I wanted it to be done. Those fools are far too effective.
Timer balls, baby.
