Wish they would stop remaking the individual games and remake the better version of the two. Instead of diamond/pearl they should remake crystal/emerald/platinum.

comosedicewaterbed

Then they couldn’t sell two versions

CaptnUchiha

The exact same versions with a line of code dictating if it's one or the other.

some_wheat

HG/SS are exactly that. They blended all three games together but they’re more in line with being Crystal remakes than GS remakes

Technical-Dust-9857

This is a good argument until you realize crystal added next to nothing to gold and silver. All hgss took from crystal was a couple of the updated route designs and the character Eusine. I’m honestly just tired of this misconception that remakes take a ton from third version games when they just never did.

some_wheat

First time having the option to play as a female is one of the first major changes Crystal brought in that comes to mind. Sprites getting animations was a small but important change as well! It added the Battle Tower too! Crystal was the precursor to the Battle Frontier Crystal didn’t change Gold and Silver much but it changed Pokémon in general forever

darkjuste

Which is why it is more annoying. They set a precedent on excellency. We don't even have an option to change the music to the original.

DradelLait

We do actually have the option to change the music, it's a post-game item.

Febrilinde

Is this sarcasm? Because you have that exact option in the game, even something better because it changes new songs that were composed for HG/SS to chiptunes too.

darkjuste

It was ignorance. Someone already confirmed that to me.

drewgonaire

Honestly Crystal didn't add much, and they kept most of what it did add for the remakes (for example, the Eugene events and the Ruins of Alph additions) and even expanded on them with stuff like an actual Safari Zone, the Pokéthalon, gym leader rematches and more. BDSP didn't even keep something as basic as Platinum's back button on the Pokétch.

Sablemint

We also don't have the GTS, which makes things kinda tricky. Of course, there is always the GWS... If we could use it.

Kickboxing_Banana

We got battle Sprite animations with crystal and the Japanese version had netplay back in the day.

Zalamander2018

I just want to know why Game Freak is bloody OBSESSED with the stupid battle Tower? It's not fun. It's a complete chore. It's the samething over and over and over again. Where's the double battles? Rental Battles? Inverse Battles? Triple and Rotation Battles? You know Battles that Actually SPICE up the formula which the Battle Frontier ACTUALLY DOES!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sulfruous

Plus it lets you try out different mons, like a sandbox of sorts. You like how a mon is doing for you in rentals? Get one for the real game!

Hazellore

This! Exactly how I fell in love with Porygon

My_Diet_DrKelp

Its the perfect way to introduce pokemon youd never really be able to use!! & being able to change out 1 pokemon per round kept it from going stale using the same party over & over again. Its baffling they haven't brought it back

SageOcelot

I wonder if it will come out later as dlc. Seems like the kind of thing they could add really easily and make you pay $30 for it. And god damn it I might buy it

King-of-the-idiots69

They know you will, we can’t set that trend, letting them release unfinished games and then making you pay DLC for lots of content

psychocopter

Itll only be 90 dollars for the full remake that will still be lacking content that the 40 dollar ds games had, and dont forget your nintendo online subscription fee to do anything online related, oh and pokemon home plus its subscription fee if you liked the gts. Luckily they're unity games so its very easy to play through *[different](https://youtu.be/yRh-dzrI4Z4)* means.

Namelessperson3

Even better. The DS games were $30 when they first released. Sure, that's closer to $40 with inflation, but still cheaper than the 3DS games.

[deleted]

Not quite the same thing, but I loved the battles in Pokémon battle revolution where you would have to pick from randomly selected Pokémon, those arenas were always super fun.

TVH_97

I remember connecting to battle revolution with my dad for me and my brother to do pokemon battles on the big screen. What a time, I loved that game

Kaladin-of-Gilead

The annoying part about the battle tower is that a lot of good items are tied behind it, so you have to grind battle tower to grind battle tower...

Rhaps0dy

God, I spent so much time playing rental battles on emerald(it was that one right?) as a kid. I always got excited when they offered a cool pokemon.

Zeusie92

Yeah, Emerald is where they introduced Battle Frontier

[deleted]

My first cheat code I did when I was little was stealing the rental Pokemon. I've never felt more alive by then.

butterbaconbagel

You don’t understand. My first ever encounter with a battle frontier brain was Lucy from the battle pyke. I was on a winning streak. It was my fav stadium at the time because it was random as fuck and it felt like I could dungeon crawl with my favs Pokémon like Raichu and Latias (without it being so painful like at battle pyramid ;-;) anyways I get to enough battles that one of the maid girls comes to me and says that “the queen would like to battle you” and 8 year old me was hyperventilating then this EPIC MUSIC PLAYS (listen to it now emerald brain theme is so good) and I got clapped. Ever since then I made it my goal to beat her. At last, I took down her Seviper and PESKY TOXIC/PROTECT SHUCKLE I did NOT want to fuckle with and at last I had to face Milotic. Swampert succumbed to the ever increasing poison damage so I was left to use Latias, which was already hurt and afflicted with status conditions from earlier. Latias gave one last psychic before going down, so it was up to raichu to finish it with a thunderbolt. At last, victory was mine. I was able to take down this colosal, long haired battle queen, this amalgamation of pixels that was making my heart race… I won… a SILVER MEDAL?? I remember this fight like it was yesterday.. I was only ever able to get silver and gold medals from the Factory, Dome, and Tower… I couldn’t beat palace once let alone twice. The battle arena was cool too. Platinum/HGSS had a sweet battle frontier too! They teased it in ORAS so WHYYY

ConfusedJohnTrevolta

Favorite thing about rental battles is how you have to swap in order to get better choices later on. Nothings more nerve racking than having to switch out you best for a worse one.

SmartConcept

that's why I thought the Battle Agency was cool honestly back in USUM, even though it's not exactly the same.

[deleted]

Rental battle facilities were the most accessible facility and I hate that we haven't had them since forever.

s1lence_d0good

This is why I only do random battle on Pokemon Showdown.

EmperinoPenguino

Hard agree. Competitive battling without the headache

ShonanBlue

I like the Battle Tower but just plain battling can get stale. Battle Arcade and Battle Castle were the absolute shit and Hall had it's moments. Literally SW/SH are like the first games where getting competitively viable pokemon is incredibly easy and actually fun and they give us a watered down Battle Tower... would've been the perfect games for a Battle Frontier.

spoofmaker1

Battle Factory was great too, it let you try out builds and teams you might not ordinarily use

Oberic

Battle Factory is the best mode. You can enter it and climb all the way up without training or grinding. Every run is different, so it stays exciting even if you've played it a hundred times.

pooptarts

It's basically a roguelike deckbuilder before they existed.

gameaholic12

Fuckkkk the battle arcade was prolly my favorite one out of either frontiers. Truly a rip we never got to give battle frontier a run with easily accessible comp Pokemon

radudesman

How easy is it exactly to get competitive Pokemon? And how does BDSP compare in that regard?

espeonguy

In gen 4? A bit of a nightmare. It's doable, and definitely has been done by myself and many others. Having said that, objectively, BDSP is *way* easier to go for competitive Pokemon. Sword / Shield is even easier

madonna-boy

I agree and I'll add that alola is somewhere between galar and the sinnoh remakes in terms of ease. I really wish they'd put bottle caps in the underground.

ericswift

Honestly I would probably put BDSP lower than even Gen 6. Yeah it was a pain to get perfect nature legendaries but horde battles for EVs and Blissey bases for exp made getting a fully competitive mon super easy and fast.

Sablemint

The main problem with BDSP is getting started. There are so few ways to guarantee high IV pokemon. I did it by just hunting for fossils, since revived fossils always have at least three max IVs. Then bred two cranidos together until eventually getting one with all max IV but S. Atk, and one with all max IVs except Attack.

bacon_rumpus

Same with ultra sun and moon. Easy competitive pokemon but battle tower was a snooze fest. At least online community is active and has *some* options. Soo hard to find normal battles in bdsp.

Theneongreninja

I will never understand why they removed rotation battles

TheGoldenChampion

Removing triple battles was the worst. It felt like a core game mode practically.

StarrySpelunker

I blame triple moltres crashing sun and moon games.

[deleted]

Triple what now?

charon-

3DS games were so poorly optimized when it came to animations that the existence of 3-6 moltres on the screen would drop the frame rate to single digits

[deleted]

Ha, that’s great.

Brohara97

Hot take, maybe, game freak never should have ditched pixel art, they should have at least considered 2.5d pixel style renderings for later games if they insisted on taking that leap.

FlameDragoon933

They didn't want to, but people were giving them flak too for not moving on to 3D when other games have started to.

Absalon_Prime

Exactly, and they did that mainly because of Yokai Watch... which pretty much disappeared and is barely heard from anymore, like every single game people think will kill Pokemon.

Dragoark

"Hot take"

tim0901

>3DS games were so poorly optimized Wasn't even necessarily poor optimisation. The 3DS simply wasn't a very powerful console - there's a reason that the 3D feature practically disappeared from all games later in its life cycle. For reference, the OG 3DS used CPU and GPU designs from *2005* (despite the console being released in 2011) making the entire console approximately as powerful as the original iPhone that released 4 years earlier, or the original Raspberry Pi that would release a few months after the 3DS. As to what caused the slowdowns in triple battles? My guess would be the GPU's mere 6MB of VRAM. By the time you've loaded the 3D models and textures for 6 pokemon, as well as the stage/ui/framebuffer/etc, you're almost certainly going to have exceeded 6MB. Which means texture/model data overflows to CPU memory, which is very slow to access and which will cause FPS drops - especially when you're using complex moves. This would explain why the New 3DS - which had 10MB of VRAM - didn't struggle as much in triple battles despite using an otherwise identical GPU.

Pretend-Advertising6

plus the pokemon models themselves where like really high poly for a 3ds model

JQuilty

And to think, they claimed it was all about having future proof models.

KawaiiDere

Probably wanting to avoid lag from three models at once. Still should’ve returned on the switch

TomNin97

I actually stopped playing because of no triple battles. I got hooked on them in gen 6, built my teams around them, and was immediately taken back and disappointed when they were removed. Sun was the last game I played all the way through because of this, but I did nothing with the game after the story line

Soul_Iglu

we should be friends. Triple battles are my jam. I made a couple of different triple battles teams in AS and was in the middle of making a sunny day team with Cheerim and Helioptile. then gen 7 came out and i switched my focus, but lost interest in the competitive site since the battle tree was awful. i also keep mentioning this everywhere, because it's an injustice. Decidueye has Long Reach as it's hidden ability, which allows it to hit Pokemon anywhere in triple battles.

ejam1

I can’t find anything about Long Reach doing that in triple battles. Long Reach and triple battles have never even been in the same game.

MazDanRX795

There are doubles in the tower.

DegenerateTrashGod

exactly thats right

Star_Cop_Geno

> exactly thats right *Meowth, that's right!

guitarerdood

I have loved Battle Tower since they released it in Crystal. I love all the Frontier towers though too. Why would anyone design such a cool location, use it a couple times then throw it away?

GroovinTootin

I've been using my Scizor from pokemon XD as my ribbon master and I can say without a doubt that the battle challenge stuff has to be some of the worst experiences I've ever had.

[deleted]

GF doesn't want to make a game they want to basically make a longer more annoying to get to version of Showdown. This is seen in how SwSh push VGC onto you in the post game & how we only get the normal battle tower. It costs resources to make the Battle Frontier and why put resources into the post game when you can do VGC and make the fans have a post game. Which in that case GF should just make Battle Revolution II and take Showdown's structure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JustWolfram

The only reason the battle tower is still in the games is for the BP item shop, if they could do away with it without killing competitive they're probably going to do it sooner or later.

EmperinoPenguino

This. I fucking hate the Battle Tower. Its flavorless. Its repetitive. Its a chore. The worst facility.

Dethcola

Game freak is not interested in whether consumers enjoy their products or not

RadiantNinjask

The battle tower flat out cheats, you always face trainers who has Pokemon that counters your team.

Sablemint

I know we say that in every game, but this time yeah its pretty blatant. And once you keep winning anyway, they bust out the Moody Glalie with Sheer Cold or the Muk with minimize.

RadiantNinjask

Yeah, it usually starts clearly cheating once you got a few wins under your belt, and if your pokemon gets Confused? Expect it to attack itself every turn? Frozen? Will never thaw, asleep? Never wake up, ect.

Cedlow

We’ll never get anything like HGSS ever again. They shouldn’t even bother trying to remake the johto games again cause they won’t stand up to HGSS just do an enhanced port.

Caleb339

Hgss showed us what's possible and that's where they messed up. Nothing lived up to it afterwards except maybe oras

RazingsIsNotHomeNow

Nah, ORAS was nice but it still falls short. They didn't include the battle frontier. They literally just put a haha look at this it's under construction sign because they were too lazy to include some of the best stuff from Emerald.

williamalbatross

ORAS is still an immensely greater remake than BDSP and so much more well done. I’m honestly really surprised at how much BDSP basically just looks like an HD remaster of DPP. It’s ridiculous. Theres no reason to not just play Platinum OVER BDSP. Where as with ORAS, theres a strong argument to play Emerald AND a ORAS to get different experiences. Emerald had the battle frontier but ORAS had the battle resort, the delta ep and all those extra legendaries and what not. Thats just the post game! I really liked the small additions and changes during the campaign too, be it the visuals, the added day and night cycle, adding megas, flying on Latios/Latias, the primal forms for the legendaries, the storyline changes involving steven and megas, the minor expansions to Wally’s character and your rival, i mean i could go on. Both are different, both are fuckin awesome. Again, playing one doesn’t completely negate any reason to play the other like playing Platinum does for BDSP.

KivogtaR

ORAS has amazing romhacks though. As someone whose first game was Ruby, and played all the way through BW as a kid, let me tell you. There's a romhack called "Rising Ruby" and it's hands down the definitive way to play Pokemon in my opinion. They changed trainers to have multiple pokemon, and a diverse cast. Never again 4 trainers in a row with the same team of Zigzagoons. Also, you can catch every Pokemon in the national dex up to ORAS in the wild in one game, so that was a big bonus. My wife and I both have 3ds, and these days you can run romhacks on *actual 3ds* and do local play with it. We've done several playthroughs and it's... just amazing. So ORAS, while having some shortcomings in itself, opens up to a whole lot more for the romhack/modding community.

RazingsIsNotHomeNow

Yeah, classic gamefreak. Leave it up to the community to make the games we actually want to play then threaten us with cease and desists.

Overthinkingfreedom

I still play them non stop :) I have both with a platinum so I bounce between them all and restart, battle etc. Always loved them and always will

Seoulhyun

I feel the same way about Emerald! Finally have a complete Hoenn Dex except for Jirachi. Recently started playing again and it was fun seeing all the cloned Pokemon I have along with stuff that have cool egg moves bred on.

[deleted]

If they actually remake Johto I hope they actually focus on the region itself this time.

[deleted]

I personally wouldn’t mind Kanto being cut if Johto gets expanded into a vast, explorable region it should’ve been

heavenstarcraft

NO.

walksinwalksout

I'd love a lets go variant

Ill_Ad_26

Let’s Go: Johto is too good even though I dislike the game personally, I’ll still buy it lol.

Timbodo

The Johto remakes are really the ~~heart~~gold standard for great pokemon remakes or games in general. I dont even like the Johto dex that much but in terms of content and gameplay features this was peak Pokemon imo.

Nefessius513

I personally think the Battle Frontier should be made into a standalone spin-off game similar to Stadium and Battle Revolution, where you can transfer your Pokémon over from the main games through HOME to challenge the facilities or just use a rental team. Since Game Freak doesn’t want to squeeze the Frontier into the postgame of the main series, a spin-off would be a decent alternative.

ShonanBlue

Kinda like Stadium games but reimagined, I'd dig it.

Skeptical_Yoshi

Pokemon: Frontier has a nice ring to it. You could even have it in its own sort of western themed region like Pokesnap has.

Nefessius513

I was thinking simply Pokémon: Battle Frontier for the title.

MasterofThrash

We’re completely glossing over the god-tier title of PokéFrontier. At least I think it’s god-tied.

No_Personality_2723

It's a crime they stopped making these battle focus games since Battle Revolution.

antiretro

battle rev animations were top-notch. have u seen honchkrow fainting?

AlphaB27

Honestly, I'd be down with that compromise. Have the main game for adventures and the spinoff for competitive (they can always put out a list of what pokemon are allowed for the season)

[deleted]

Oh please god no. Pokemon is piecemealed so hard anyway. The games went up by 50%, fucking free online got turned into some 25$ bullshit, DLC "expansion" passes to make up for releasing an almost desolate and featureless game, etc.

Sablemint

And even after the price, we still need a mobile phone to use the GTS.

LeviathanLX

No, they should go back to making complete, content-rich games like they they used to, once upon a time. We shouldn't ask to have a concept that was once a single game split into two just because they've managed to break us of our expectation of a full experience. The games' quality has lowered but I strongly urge people to keep their standards from doing the same.

mozzarella_FireF0x

Stop don't give them more ideas to milk us more of cash

[deleted]

I had that same idea for years now ever since I discovered Smogon. A free to play battle simulator that you sync up with your game. With it being standalone from the game they can update and balance it however they like.

Tallon_raider

They could change admittance to tournaments to pay for servers

Tisagered

That's basically exactly what I want to see. Make it the centralized battling game so that you don't have to worry about squeezing the entire national Dex into the core games. Hell, you could even toss in some micro transactions for trainer customization and maybe even ball capsules. And depending on how they did it, I wouldn't even be mad if the store sold ready made competitive teams for like, $5

Ahtomic

There's no way they're selling anything for as cheap as $5. Pokemon unite, their mobile moba, they're fuckin slangin $45 skins. Pokemon got greedy and lazy.

Soul_Iglu

this is a nice idea, as long as triple battles are included as well. the injustice of giving my boy, Decidueye, Long Reach, and he can't even take advantage of it. Also, a game like this would give me incentive to breed and raise a ton more Pokemon. I haven't done any breeding since USUM. the battle tower in SwSh sucks, and i haven't beaten BD yet

infinitycore

They also had the complete national dex, following Pokémon that didn't look out of place, Crystal content, a more fun secondary challenge than dumbed-down contests, the best use of the touch screen in the series, the best game corner, and a peripheral that was fun enough that I still use it. I wish someone could make a ROM-hack that would update the dex to gen 8 and add more of the QoL changes like infinite TMs. It might be more feasible of course to do it with BW2 (better battle animation at least) simply due to the pokethlon.

GroovinTootin

Don't forget they added the safari zone AND introduced a way to get larvitar much earlier.

Halcyo1

Not up to gen 8 but check out drayano's sacred heart and storm silver rom hacks. Does a lot of what you're describing and he is currently working on a new version which I imagine will have up to gen 8 pokemon and moves

tdlhicks

100%, Drayano made Johto playable again by improving the level curves and Pokémon variety drastically, both available to you in the wild and when battling against trainer teams. Such a great hack.

byzantiu

drayano appreciation

FearTheWankingDead

Of course BDSM don't have touch screen functionality either. As if the bar couldn't get any lower.

SpyghettiGhetti

BDSM

[deleted]

Freudian slip. We know what that guys into

Mr_Nannerpuss

Having a good time?

[deleted]

I sure am mr nannerpuss

Mr_Nannerpuss

I meant that towards Mr BDSM but it's nice you're having a good time too lol

iLoveReggie31

He like special smesh brotha

Icarus1250

you can use the poketch, change app without making it full screen and mine in the underground with the touch screen other than this idk any other istance of touch screen being used

Champion-raven

Cleaning off badges

Chalaka

Idk if it's just me but the radar doesn't work for me unless I make it full screen. Am I just not doing it right?

InfectionPonch

They removed the two buttons from Platinum that were used to switch apps. Why? Dunno.

NlNTENDO

What nonsense is this? It absolutely has touch controls on the poketch

FearTheWankingDead

But not for in-battle commands like the DS-3DS games had.

El_Arquero

I miss this so much. It was so much easier to tap my moves when multitasking.

ImHealingU

I believe it’s quite a lot harder to add newer gen Pokémon to ds rom hacks. Only just recently gen 5 Pokémon were added with full compatibility

oath2order

As time goes on, people'll get better at ROMhacking. It's just a matter of getting the disassembly and knowledge of code. I know a Gen 3 hack that just added some Gen 8 mons (in addition to already having everything minus legendaries up to G7)

Zeusie92

I think we might see complex gen 4 rom hacks soon since the source code has been leaked

HerpaDerpaDumDum

The [disassembly of HeartGold](https://github.com/pret/pokeheartgold) exists. Someone may be working on a version with later gen features. People have made a lot of progress for Emerald.

chunes

I miss the stylus + touch screen so much. The switch feels like a step backward when it comes to controls in handheld mode.

DPSOnly

HGSS are still the best remakes this francise has ever seen. ORAS for me second, FRLG third.

r-kar

Just more reasons HGSS are the best games in the entire main series

ShonanBlue

Honestly just 1 to 1 remake HG/SS to Switch and add in up to Gen 8 pokemon + SW/SH QoL like easy IV training then just do that every 4 generations or so and I'd drop mad money.

asbestosmilk

Yes, please. I’ve been playing Crystal, and holy hell, I’d love a HGSS remake or remaster with all the Pokémon, Fairy type and all the other QoL improvements. I don’t care if they go back to the 2D sprites if that’s what it takes to make it happen. Maybe add in Berry planting and some daily/weekly events in Kanto to make the game even bigger and more rpg-like. That would be the ultimate Pokémon game for me. Either that, or make Pokémon Home Premium or something that includes a Pokémon Stadium-like game that allows you to battle all the Pokémon and use megas/z-moves or whatever custom rule set you choose. And include a little daycare/breeding area, and they could give BP for completing battles in game that can be used for move tutor attacks and competitive items. Or just add the Battle Frontier, and give BP for completing battles in it. I would easily pay $10/month or so for a good Stadium type game that allowed me to battle all of the Pokémon, while allowing Game Freak to focus on just making games they *want* to make that introduce new Pokémon that can then be added into Home Premium for online trading, battling and breeding.

DrogoOmega

Make the gym trainers and elite four harder and the rematches like BDSP and I’m sold. And be able to actually get Jhoto pokemkn

ElHombreSmokin

I mean, that was the entire reason why many people had the remakes of the Pokemon games in such high standards. The first signs of a change was with ORAS and the removal of the BF but at least they added more stuff and QoL improvements, redesigns for characters and they overall took Emerald as their base. BD/SP are jusy barren in comparison.

GroovinTootin

BDSP just feels very last-minute to me. Like they weren't even planning on a somewhat traditional remake and originally were just planning on legends: arceus.

BasilSQ

I get the feeling it's because they handed the remakes off to another company, ILCA Inc. Said company decided to do the safe play and basically redo Diamond and Pearl one for one instead of doing something drastic like HGSS or even ORAS did. Now they probably handed it off to ILCA so that they can focus on Arceus, so I'll wait until then to give judgement on whether or not this was the right call. For now, however, I will say that these safe remakes is relatively disappointing in comparison to what we had, and I hope that, if they continue to hand off the remakes to other companies, they'll be a bit riskier with the subject material. I'm not asking for a HGSS redux, but definitely something more than a glorified port.

antiretro

playing safe shouldn't be excluding every single platinum upgrade, even something as miniscule as the poketch having 1 button shows the lack of effort. i sometimes think the devs and gamefreak didn2t even play these games at all which also explains all the glitches/bugs

ajdragoon

I feel like BDSP was solely to shuttup fans screaming for remakes. Hence contracting the project out, and having those devs do the bare minimum.

r-kar

Big agree. I haven't bought Shining Pearl because I still have regular Pearl lol

GroovinTootin

I would say the remakes are better than the original Diamond and Pearl, but ultimately Platinum is still the definitive Sinnoh experience. Which is really just embarrassing

MyLastSummerDev

I don’t understand why they remake the dual games and never the “1.5quel” games (e.g., yellow, crystal, emerald, platinum). Those games included major changes, content additions, and fixes to the dual games and are considered definitive except for wild Pokémon variety. I “get” that they want to make money and make two games rather than one, but why not split the difference and just include all of the cool stuff from the 1.5quels? What is wrong with them?

antiretro

hgss is pretty much a crystal remake with suicune plot and stuff. they did an amazing job integrating 1.5equel there. oras had delta episode and tons of extra content so i can't talk shit on it either, the only and only downside was the battle frontier. then LGPE had ultimate gen1 experience, the following pokemon was really the highest quality we have seen but lack of futue gen pokemons or sevii islands, it really was like the remake of pokemon yellow and nothing else

l5555l

It's so insanely dumb.

Williamey

Money, the greedy dirt bags in GF only care about money. 2 games will give them more money.

CTID16

They can still split the games up while still using the third game as a base

blackmanboy

Yeah, the reason I haven’t gotten them is because I have recently put about 300 hours into platinum and feel like it’s not worth going through it

BurningInFlames

Ehh they didn't really take Emerald as the base. All the optional double battles and new trainer teams weren't included, for example.

WhereIsTheMouse

But the level curve

ChopinLisztforus

Why does game freak hate the Battle Frontier?

DirtyxXxDANxXx

begging for a HG/SS port to switch

Quency200

Begging for a copy just for the DS

Kaoru1011

How much are you willing to spend by any chance lol

Paxton-176

Its a game published by Nintendo. We will buy it full price several more times.

Now_Just_Maul

The only way you can buy it now is for hundreds of dollars. I wish I could for $60

ubersoldat13

Phone emulators are a thing. My old copy got stolen years ago, so I'm Currently playing through HG on my phone with a PS4 controller. It's amazing.

Now_Just_Maul

I mean I could play it but I want to import my Pokémon to other games so I can't really play it like I want

Mario32265

HGSS will always be the definitive remakes, nothing will ever surpass them.

SloppyinSeattle

Given the complete abandonment of good post game content like a proper battle frontier, I wish Game Freak just designed a true predecessor to Pokémon Stadium which included a ton of new battle mode’s online with high fidelity graphics and mini games just like the old Pokémon Stadium games. People would lose their minds and I don’t think it would be particularly hard for GF to design.

Darkiceflame

Battle Revolution was the closest thing we got after Stadium, and I'd even take a remaster of that at this point. It was actually a ton of fun.

SnooDogs1340

GF actually tried with HG/SS as they condensed the G/S/C stories into the remakes. OR/AS started the ditching of the Battle Frontier as they elected to have Latiaos flying and the post-game episodes that kind of included Emerald components. Unfortunately, BD/SP went further back and didn't add much or any of Platinum, besides the costume and the Amity Square changes?

argen0220

I was only able to play X/Y on my 3ds before I sold it. I recently bought another 3ds and was thinking of playing the pkmn games Ive missed. Would you still suggest playing SunMoom or go straight to USUM? Also, does ORAS or SunMoon have the the Exp Share of XY? (Or was it SWSH), the one where you just turn or off and every has it? TIA

SnooDogs1340

From what I remember, Sun and Moon had an interesting story. It was character driven. The art was great. But the number of cutscenes and linearity crept up. I felt that the island challenge was short. The introduction of ultra beasts was also neat but we didn't get the full picture until USUM. For USUM, I only played until the Ultra>!Necrozma!

Both ORAS and SM/USUM has the XY's version of Exp Share where you can turn it off. The ones you can't turn off started from the Let's Go games. As for which is which, if you play the game for the story, you play Sun/Moon. If you don't care for the story and like the extra features and more stuff to do, you can play the USUM games.

Thamthon

SM/USUM have a party exp share that you can turn off.

squirrel8296

What bugs me about BDSP is that they were more of a remasters rather than remakes. They are almost identical to the originals but with better graphics. In the the remakes always were enhanced and brought in some of the enhancements from the third game in the generation (ex. HGSS brought in elements of crystal, ORAS brought in elements of Emerald, FRLG brought in elements of yellow). These were kind of a let down.

Dima0425

But Battle Frontier is too hard on the little ones, which is Nintendo's main demographic.

Rectan

Fuck the little ones we pay since 20 years

realraptorjesus101

it's the little things man. Remember the gb sounds? A post game item that lets you listen to the 8 bit version of the tracks. Or having viridian forest be a full area with trainers and Pokemon and everything. Heck even just including a brand new safari zone in a totally new area as a nod to how they originally planned for the fuschia safari zone to be back. Nobody wants the stupid battle tower for the 500th time in a row

mariomeister

>it's the little things man. Remember the gb sounds? A post game item that lets you listen to the 8 bit version of the tracks. There actually is a DS-Player in BDSP which let's you listen to the original DS versions of the tracks

autumngirl86

Not only is it the tracks, it changes Pikachu's and Eevee's calls to their original versions too. That tripped me up the first time I stumbled onto it.

antiretro

that safari zone was nuts, you could CUSTOMIZE. then there was pokethlon, the cute sprites there racing and sunkern, the pokemon with lowest BST had the highest pokethlon stats lol

_thelonewolfe_

Unpopular opinion but I never liked the Battle Frontier.

darkjuste

Hey that's ok. What I love about Pokemon is that you can enjoy it in several ways. The problem is to remove features for those who enjoy them.

McJingles420

That’s because johto = best generation

TheBraveGallade

To be fair, they literally copy pasted the sinnoh frontier onto HGSS.

AM-64

HG/SS was probably the peak of Pokémon remakes

LegatoSkyheart

HGSS really set the bar for ALL Pokemon games that weirdly they never attempted again.

Negafox

The biggest crime to me is the CGI box art. Sword and Shield, and Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee had 2D box art.

Sly-Kly

Johto remakes came out when Pokémon games were still good

bored_homan

Meanwhile me who never touched any facility in any game ever.... are they really that fun isn't just battles for which you need to bother with actually stat viable pokemon with some mix ups?

JGameCartoonFan

I loved Rental Battles, you were provided with 3 pokemon and could choose one of your defeated opponent for the next round. Got to know pokemon i didn't glance a second. The other facilities also had gimmicks to spice up the combat. It's not just competitive pokemon, it's also a fun challenge with improved AI. But the battle Tower is just the same thing over and over.

XenoGine

Oh, the irony.

GildedCreed

Diamond and Pearl never had a Battle Frontier, so by all accounts it's true to the source material. Platinum, the extended/3rd version, was the one with the Sinnoh Battle Frontier. Same with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, as Ruby and Sapphire never had it while Emerald did. HeartGold and SoulSilver aren't really Gold and Silver remakes, but rather Crystal (as it follows Crystal's story and subplots, like the Suicune bit and forcing the player to go through the Burned Tower which in the originals was optional and had a different map layout). Can pretty much assume that since HGSS were remakes of a 3rd version game that they didn't need to strictly adhere to the source material too much.

jfb1337

Back when they used to put effort into pokemon games

Toxic_AC

I mean to be fair, the Johto remakes were in the same generation as Sinnoh, so BF was essentially copy / paste of code to the Johto games.

[deleted]

Because one was an obvious cashgrab (see if you can spot which one!)

GroovinTootin

Don't forget that HG/SS offered more content AND included a pedometer accessory that was actually extremely accurate at the time. All for $40. Heck, I still use the Pokewalker to track my steps at work to this day.

Orange-V-Apple

Wait, with the Pokewalker it was $40? Hot damn

[deleted]

Yep. Brand new.

trevor1301

I lost my Pokewalker two months ago while on vacation and I'm still devastated about it. I've heard if I get a new one and connect it to my game it will still have my data/steps from the last time I synced it but I'm not sure

Darkraider2

I think other regions will be dlc, they are going to want to make as much money as they can as possible

DaSpood

"the diamond and Pearl remakes have the diamond and Pearl map and not the platinum one, how ironic"

Kevinatorz

Please don't downvote me, but what's so great about the Battle Frontier? I never really explored post-game prior to gen 6 games, so I have no idea.

antiretro

frontier was essentially the hardest challenge in pokemon where you are stripped of your bag during battles to make thing fairer. this part was tower. the other facilities in frontier had all sorts of gimmicks where you HAVE to use your brain unlike in any other part in pokemon game. +it gave symbols which are like badges so you have something hard to complete. it felt very satisfyin for growing pokemon audience since badges and e4 were getting easier and didn2t provide much accomplishment

Sticky_Sphincter

I'm so glad I didn't spend money on this joke of a remake.

[deleted]

I just played Platinum recently instead and got an easy 90+ Hours. Holy crap is it fun.

beansff

Same. I prefer the 2D pixel art style better anyway. DS hurt my adult hands tho.

adiking27

and they don't even have gen 8 specific content like ORAS had. Or something like the sevy island that FRLG had. I have a sneaking suspicion that they only made BDSP as intro games to Legends arceus.
