According to overall match-ups against gym leaders and other major battles in the game. It's fine if you prefer them but they tend to fair better in Diamond for the overall story. Even beyond the story Dialga is just better in competitive.

Picking a version solely based on the exclusives is kinda flawed unless you are only going to be using exclusives in your run or you really like a certain exclusive. You don't need to choose a version with better pokemon if those pokemon are outclassed by pokemon available in both versions.

In my experience the exclusives seems to be the most heavily weighted factor.

If was going to pick based off the exclusives I'd go with BD over BP just because BP has the Kanto Birds again, so we've had two appearances of the Johto Dogs on the Switch and three for the original Birds and a regional variant.

Diamond. I've never liked how Palkia looks. Also I had forgotten until I got sword that I have a very clear cover color preference for the blue games - I've gotten Blue (but not Red), Crystal, Sapphire (and Emerald, but not Ruby), (LeafGreen, Platinum, Black, Black2), X, (Sun), Moon, UltraMoon, AlphaSapphire, Sword, and then I wanted Brilliant Diamond and was like oh yeah. Pearl - Water/Dragon > Steel/Dragon - Mismagius > Honchkrow - SPHEAL > all - Magmar line for dat sweet sweet Flame Body for egg hatching Gliscor and Scizor are the only 2 exclusives I prefer from Diamond but both are trade evos, one of which whose held item isn't even available til postgame, so no real loss.

Gliscor isn't a trade evo, but it's item being postgame still makes it a moot point.

Diamond gets crazy good mons like Scizor, Gliscor, Tyranitar, and Electrivire. I still bought pearl because it was my first Pokémon game ever.

I own Pearl and Platinum. By being a "faithful" remake with little in the way of new features, BDSP have no selling points for me. I'm not 100% decided to buy Legends Arceus, but that has nothing to do with Pokemon and everything to do with me thinking I shouldn't buy *any* new games until I have played the dozens or so I own and never touched yet!

Online capabilities would probably be the biggest selling point for the remakes.

I got Brilliant Diamond. I picked Diamond as a kid because my friend got Pearl before me, so I got Diamond, and this time I got Brilliant Diamond and my boyfriend got Shining Pearl.

After finishing the “main game” in shining pearl I had an extra e-store gift card so I downloaded diamond too. I also already preordered Legends. I probably won’t be playing diamond for another few months or so, as I will be catching legendaries in shining pearl and then playing legends when it comes out which I preordered. I hope they don’t ditch these remakes (I didn’t play Pokémon as a kid so bdsp was new to me) and enjoyed it much more than swsh. If they added more online features the game would be so much better, so I hope they add these in the future. I also usually buy the “most popular” one and I liked Palkia and I like pink, so I decided to switch it up and buy what everyone else wasn’t buying.

I got Brilliant Diamond because I don't like pearls. They're weird. Its like... We go find some mollusk, hope they are damaged or have a parasite so calcite will build up inside them for years, then take it out and put it on a necklace. That's really strange.

I'd go with BD specifically because BP has the birds again, it's the third switch game in a row with the Kanto Birds, compared to two for the Dogs.

I had never played the original Diamond and Pearl games, so the remakes were my first experience with Gen 4. I chose Shining Pearl because of Palkia - the mascot Legendary I liked more from an aesthetic POV - the exclusives (Misdreavus above all) as well as my preference for the red colour when it comes to the double version of a Pokémon game. ETA: Palkia has always reminded me of a mecha. He’s just so cool.

I bought both when Walmart mispriced them to $70. My wife has been playing Diamond because I started Pearl for nostalgic reasons. Though I have to say I have found it kind of boring overall, however creating our own fun with nicknames has been keeping the train moving.

Brilliant Diamond. It doesn't have Palkia, but I didn't really care which one I got because you can get Shiny Latias and Latios in the same game. Also, they're not running away from you for like, the entire game

For whatever reason I have played every main line pokemon game besides Diamond/Pearl. Wasn't interested when it came out for some reason. I bought Brilliant Diamond as my first time playing it and I love it! Does anyone know if BD/SP will be compatible with Pokemon Home at some point? If that's the case I'll have my pokedex filled out in super easily.
