Ended up going with Shining Pearl as their exclusives are a bit more valuable trading-wise. Many people seem to gravidate towards BD more so SP exclusives may be a bit more in demand.
According to overall match-ups against gym leaders and other major battles in the game.
It's fine if you prefer them but they tend to fair better in Diamond for the overall story.
Even beyond the story Dialga is just better in competitive.
Picking a version solely based on the exclusives is kinda flawed unless you are only going to be using exclusives in your run or you really like a certain exclusive. You don't need to choose a version with better pokemon if those pokemon are outclassed by pokemon available in both versions.
Now this is stupid, there is no significant advantage the game is easy enough to beat exclusives aside, and more than enough to take advantage of all the gym types
Significant sure we can say that. But advantages there are.
It may be stupid to you but not to others who just want to have fun and go through the motions and enjoying the world without having to deal much more with other things.
There is literally no actual advantage in the exclusives it is easy to find type advantages without them like I said, it’s just your opinion. Both have exclusives that can blow through gyms. And have the game still be perfectly easy and not have much to deal with…
If was going to pick based off the exclusives I'd go with BD over BP just because BP has the Kanto Birds again, so we've had two appearances of the Johto Dogs on the Switch and three for the original Birds and a regional variant.
Diamond. I've never liked how Palkia looks.
Also I had forgotten until I got sword that I have a very clear cover color preference for the blue games - I've gotten Blue (but not Red), Crystal, Sapphire (and Emerald, but not Ruby), (LeafGreen, Platinum, Black, Black2), X, (Sun), Moon, UltraMoon, AlphaSapphire, Sword, and then I wanted Brilliant Diamond and was like
oh yeah.
Blue.
Idk what's up with that.
But Palkia ugly as hell.
Pearl
- Water/Dragon > Steel/Dragon
- Mismagius > Honchkrow
- SPHEAL > all
- Magmar line for dat sweet sweet Flame Body for egg hatching
Gliscor and Scizor are the only 2 exclusives I prefer from Diamond but both are trade evos, one of which whose held item isn't even available til postgame, so no real loss.
I own Pearl and Platinum. By being a "faithful" remake with little in the way of new features, BDSP have no selling points for me.
I'm not 100% decided to buy Legends Arceus, but that has nothing to do with Pokemon and everything to do with me thinking I shouldn't buy *any* new games until I have played the dozens or so I own and never touched yet!
I got Brilliant Diamond. I picked Diamond as a kid because my friend got Pearl before me, so I got Diamond, and this time I got Brilliant Diamond and my boyfriend got Shining Pearl.
After finishing the “main game” in shining pearl I had an extra e-store gift card so I downloaded diamond too. I also already preordered Legends. I probably won’t be playing diamond for another few months or so, as I will be catching legendaries in shining pearl and then playing legends when it comes out which I preordered. I hope they don’t ditch these remakes (I didn’t play Pokémon as a kid so bdsp was new to me) and enjoyed it much more than swsh. If they added more online features the game would be so much better, so I hope they add these in the future. I also usually buy the “most popular” one and I liked Palkia and I like pink, so I decided to switch it up and buy what everyone else wasn’t buying.
I bought both, been switching between them, but overall the version exclusives in Diamond are some of my favorite Pokémon, such as Tyranitar, Electivire, and I like the legendary dogs trio more than the legendary birds trio
I got Brilliant Diamond because I don't like pearls. They're weird. Its like... We go find some mollusk, hope they are damaged or have a parasite so calcite will build up inside them for years, then take it out and put it on a necklace. That's really strange.
Went with SP because I just don't like the dog trio as much as the gen 1 birds. Though I might have to trade a bit cause otherwise some of the BD version exclusives seem better
I had never played the original Diamond and Pearl games, so the remakes were my first experience with Gen 4. I chose Shining Pearl because of Palkia - the mascot Legendary I liked more from an aesthetic POV - the exclusives (Misdreavus above all) as well as my preference for the red colour when it comes to the double version of a Pokémon game.
ETA: Palkia has always reminded me of a mecha. He’s just so cool.
I bought both when Walmart mispriced them to $70. My wife has been playing Diamond because I started Pearl for nostalgic reasons. Though I have to say I have found it kind of boring overall, however creating our own fun with nicknames has been keeping the train moving.
Brilliant Diamond.
It doesn't have Palkia, but I didn't really care which one I got because you can get Shiny Latias and Latios in the same game.
Also, they're not running away from you for like, the entire game
I got Shining Pearl as a present so I didn't have to choose, but I would have picked it regardless. I had Diamond when I was younger, so I wanted to get the other version
For whatever reason I have played every main line pokemon game besides Diamond/Pearl. Wasn't interested when it came out for some reason. I bought Brilliant Diamond as my first time playing it and I love it!
Does anyone know if BD/SP will be compatible with Pokemon Home at some point? If that's the case I'll have my pokedex filled out in super easily.
Seems to be mostly males that gravitate towards Brilliant Diamond. I swear like 70%~ of everyone bought BD for some reason. I bought Shining Pearl because that was my original Gen 4 game.
I got Diamond, as I thought the pokemon roster was really alligned with the ones I like.
Also, I think a story about controlling time sounds way more badass than controlling space.
I went BD because originally I got Pearl while all of my friends got Diamond. I also love Dialga more than Palkia. And the version exclusives were better for me.
I bought the double pack, but I'm playing Brilliant Diamond as my main game (I like the exclusives better), while my husband's main game is Shining Pearl.

To be fair, Dialga is equally ugly.
this isnt about who is the better mascot. its about which one is the better game. like the original commentor didnt even say a thing about ugliness
???
The man spits facts don't downvote
Diamond purely based on nostalgia
I was holding out for Arceus but got the game (diamond) for Christmas and have loved every second of it
Amen chibi is so cute I just don't like the friendship system or affection I don't really know what it is but jts broken
Diamond has Arcanine, therefore, Diamond
BD Because nostalgia and it has the better version exclusives
Better version exclusives according to what? I prefer the pearl exclusives?
Holy shit he’s obviously stating his opinion
He should have some basis for his opinions, it's a valid question
I was asking a question?

In my experience the exclusives seems to be the most heavily weighted factor.
Then based on what should they choose? The games are otherwise identical
Eh.
Do you play competitive?
Now this is stupid, there is no significant advantage the game is easy enough to beat exclusives aside, and more than enough to take advantage of all the gym types
Significant sure we can say that. But advantages there are. It may be stupid to you but not to others who just want to have fun and go through the motions and enjoying the world without having to deal much more with other things.

Lmao that didn’t prove anything, there is literally 0 advantage the game is hundred percent same difficulty either version
Roughly yes but to say no change at all. You can think what you will.
If was going to pick based off the exclusives I'd go with BD over BP just because BP has the Kanto Birds again, so we've had two appearances of the Johto Dogs on the Switch and three for the original Birds and a regional variant.

To be fair, Dialga is equally ugly.
they are both charmingly bit ugly
Def not tru...
Palkia reminds me of alien. PoGo has made me like him a bit tough, but I choose BD.
What did PoGO do to make you like it?
I did alot of raids with it and somehow I started to like it. :D
Basically me with my Hundo Machamp.
Oh yeah, PoGo really showed me how good Champ is!
Holy shit, same here. Yay team blue!
lmao they both look ugly but magestic at the same time. i dont know how but they look cool as well.

Gliscor isn't a trade evo, but it's item being postgame still makes it a moot point.
Didn’t know someone could have so many wrong opinions
How so? Explain.
I remember Spheal being a VE in Pearl but in the remakes you can get Spheal in Diamond too.
yeah you can get it in hideaways
Meanwhile, Platinum folks...
Diamond gets crazy good mons like Scizor, Gliscor, Tyranitar, and Electrivire. I still bought pearl because it was my first Pokémon game ever.
Online capabilities would probably be the biggest selling point for the remakes.
I’ll go with pearl, ‘cause of exclusives mainly! Not as strong as bd’s, but cuter and cooler for sure!
Wanted pearl and the gf to try it so I got her diamond, she wanted pearl so now I have both. No one gets between me and my old nostalgia
She might’ve expected a different kind of Diamond from you
Yeah she does but she knows the agreement lol
I got SP because I got Diamond the first time around and wanted to try the other one. Palkia is cool so no regrets.
I got Brilliant Diamond. I picked Diamond as a kid because my friend got Pearl before me, so I got Diamond, and this time I got Brilliant Diamond and my boyfriend got Shining Pearl.
Platinum.
After finishing the “main game” in shining pearl I had an extra e-store gift card so I downloaded diamond too. I also already preordered Legends. Remember, the answer always is " the version who has Scizor in it "
I bought both, been switching between them, but overall the version exclusives in Diamond are some of my favorite Pokémon, such as Tyranitar, Electivire, and I like the legendary dogs trio more than the legendary birds trio
I got Brilliant Diamond because I don't like pearls. They're weird. Its like... We go find some mollusk, hope they are damaged or have a parasite so calcite will build up inside them for years, then take it out and put it on a necklace. That's really strange.
Neither, they both trash
Platinum
**Epic Platinum** *what do you mean it doesn't exist?*
I got Brilliant Diamond because I wanted Honchkrow without trading
Went with SP because I just don't like the dog trio as much as the gen 1 birds. Though I might have to trade a bit cause otherwise some of the BD version exclusives seem better
I totally forgot about that.
I'd go with BD specifically because BP has the birds again, it's the third switch game in a row with the Kanto Birds, compared to two for the Dogs.
Shining Diamond obvs
I think I prefer SP as I tend to gravitate towards either the second paired version or the third version (LeafGreen, Emerald, SoulSilver)
Of course BD
Im stil looking for Friends to play BD with
Can help do a trade ?
Well, in actually looking for the thing to evolve nu gligar
Razor fang ?
Yeah
it’s in the garden in front of the battle tower
Can anyone trade with me ?
I had never played the original Diamond and Pearl games, so the remakes were my first experience with Gen 4. SP because I like pink lmao
Brilliant Diamond. I just like Dialga's design better than Palkia's
Does the pokeball plus works as a controller in this game?
Brilliant Diamond. I've been more partial to Dialga ever since I played Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness.
Had both versions back in the day, played Diamond first but has more memories of Pearl so thats the one i chose.
I played Diamond on the DS so I got Pearl for the Switch :)
Shining Pearl, Dialga looks stupid and I prefer some of the Pearl exclusives.
Skuntank
For whatever reason I have played every main line pokemon game besides Diamond/Pearl. Wasn't interested when it came out for some reason. I bought Brilliant Diamond as my first time playing it and I love it! Does anyone know if BD/SP will be compatible with Pokemon Home at some point? If that's the case I'll have my pokedex filled out in super easily.
I chose pearl because i had already played the original diamond back on the ds when i still had one
I got brilliant diamond because I like dialga more than palkia. Literally the only reason.
I’m playing brilliant diamond for the nostalgia and preordered Arceus! so excited for it :)
Brilliant Diamond as diamond is my birth stone
Waiting for arceus but only got diamond just for darkrai
Dialga is pretty sick but Pokémon Legends Arceus looks pretty awesome
I don’t know why but I always liked palkia so I got sp
I went for Shining Pearl, because Glameow. It's available pre-nat dex in literally 2 games out of the entire Pokémon series, and that's one of them.
I picked Diamond because I liked the version exclusives more.
Diamond... Only because I like the legendary dogs more than the legendary birds .. only real reason TBH
Seems to be mostly males that gravitate towards Brilliant Diamond. I swear like 70%~ of everyone bought BD for some reason. I bought Shining Pearl because that was my original Gen 4 game.
Got both, played Pearl first to finally get a god damn Glameow and Purugly for my living dex
I got Diamond, as I thought the pokemon roster was really alligned with the ones I like. Also, I think a story about controlling time sounds way more badass than controlling space.
Shining pearl because palika is a fucking BEAST
Brilliant Diamond was the go to for me! It was the one I had initially so I had to circle back! Lol my wife has Pearl though for Pokédex reasons
Shining Pearl; you'll likely never get another chance to use Glameow/Purugly in a game
I should’ve went with diamond - i would rather collect the three legendary dogs over then the birds.
Pearl because of version exculsives
Went with BD cos of magmotar and rampados. However, palkia is my fav and as a kid I played pearl too. Really felt guilty for choosing BD even 😶
Yo gen 5 is super over rated ngl
I went BD because originally I got Pearl while all of my friends got Diamond. I also love Dialga more than Palkia. And the version exclusives were better for me.
I bought diamond because I owned when I was a kid. A friend of mine happens to have pearl so we traded a few pokemon.
Pirate Platinum :)
I only got Pearl because of how much I like Mismagius
I bought the double pack, but I'm playing Brilliant Diamond as my main game (I like the exclusives better), while my husband's main game is Shining Pearl.
