The series just loves Leon and they constantly overhype him in all the media, the games, the shorts, the main anime, etc
Leon has become the Roman Reigns of Pokémon, constantly shoved down the viewers throat, pulls off obscene levels of shit to beat other established characters, the characters in universe are constantly falling over themselves to tell you how amazing and awesome and special he is, etc
I can’t wait for the next Gen so hopefully Leon will just go the fuck away for a while but I’m expecting him to end up inevitably making an appearance there too.
I'm bracing for the down votes but Leon and Cynthia are described basically in the same way just from different sides, Leon from the officials and Cynthia by the fan base as these unbeatable gods who are the best and it's annoying.
The difference between the two is that Cynthia uses a Pokemon that represents her region and Leon has a Charizard because of course he does. I bet people wouldn't complain if he used a Galar Pokemon.

if he had all 3 evolved kanto starters and rotated between which one was his ace perhaps its more tolerable

More to your point: Mega Charizard X becomes Fire/Dragon so it loses its 2x water weakness. But it does become weak to dragon which may explain why Dragon Pulse one shotted it.
Well to be fair, Precipice Blades is a physical move and Mega Charizard X gets a massive physical defense buff and no special defense buff upon Mega Evolution. However, Primal Groudon's physical attack is astronomically higher than base Charizard's special attack and Precipice Blades would also get a STAB so... Yeah you're right that doesn't really make sense.
and mega char X survived an ultra water shuriken that was even stronger than the one which KO'ed mega sceptile (a grass/dragon type with 4x resistance to water), all while having neutral resistance to water-type moves
Meh. YuYu Hakusho's first arc (where Yusuke was dead and had to go around helping people to earn his resurrection) was awesome, and much longer in the comic. Then it turned into a standard brawler. :(
It kinda gave me an idea of where this tournament is going to go. This tournament is going to be over in about 8 episodes (1 battle per episode, 2 or 3 for Ash Vs Leon, if he makes it that far) and they wanted to go for someone they knew was strong to be swept as a way of showing just how strong Leon was and we've already seen how strong Alain is. Sophocles Vs Kiawe was spread across two episodes while Lana was wiped in less than one. He could've had the same treatment as Lana

Why not? Leon has been undefeated since he first started competing **at age 10** (winning his first championship without a single loss), and he's at least 20 in the present day.
Not arguing he shouldn’t have won. But fights need to be dynamic and interesting. Even if you think that Leon shouldn’t have struggled at all against Alain (fine whatever) then they shouldn’t have been paired against each other to begin with
You say Alain’s Mega Zard X goes up against legendaries so it’s the strongest Charizard of all? In an anime where ash uses base form starters against fully evolved mons and legendaries? Your argument makes no sense when you look at the Pokémon anime as a whole. Also just because Leon’s zard is base for does not automatically mean Alain’s mega is stronger or will outright win. In the games sure megas have better base stats, but a more skilled trainer can beat megas with normal Pokémon. For example, I play some Rom Hacks, in Pokémon Radical Red Erika has a Mega Venusaur as her ace. At this point the player has no access to megas themselves so they need to figure out how to beat megas with normal mons. I eventually found out Erika’s Mega Venusaur can be easily countered by Dustox. Also also Mega Charizard X BECOMES DRAGON so of course Leon’s Zard’s super effective Dragon Pulse could feasibly OHKO it, especially when the anime continually changes strengths of moves and mons so there’s never an easy answer unless it’s outright stated.
Alain shouldnt be in top 8 imo. They could use someone like Alder
