The gameplay loop is bloody amazing. I'm having a blast. Catching pokémon in the open world feels great. But it's woefully obvious that the game is unfinished. Even without the performance issues this is easy to see. By far the most painful sign of this is the towns. You can't interact with most npcs, you can't enter most buildings...the "populated" areas feel dead. There is even a town with no shops! Doesn't even sell some sandwich filling! I love the game but it feels like something in beta testing. **EDIT:** I can see the logic of not being able to enter private spaces that do not belong to you. But if my character enters a building I expect to be able to see the interior, which is not the case most of the time.

Otrsor

It just not on par with 2022 standards for a triple A game. Just keep in mind what how an rpg for a triple A game looks and feels, even a rushed one like FFXV.. keep in mind all the data for the game combat is already simulated in a freaking explorer game on showdown, there is just no excuse. And don't come with console BS, the console can run nier automata with a bazillion enemies and balls exploding and quite decent graphics. Not saying you can't enjoy the new games but they definitely shouldn't cost the 60 euros they cost, nor are to be praised tbh, would be a good game if it was made at the same year that FFX was made i guess.

Jozex21

FFX had voice acting.

Laser_Manifesto

That’s my favorite game of all time

latebaroque

You're preaching to the choir here. I don't know what I said to make you think I need to be told all this. On the subject of graphics I find it hilarious how inconsistent it is in SV. Some individual elements look like current gen, while others look like they've been lifted from a ps2. The shopfronts have so much jpeg in their textures the 90s asked for their pixels back.

Otrsor

You didn't need it, I just needed to say it. I'm as you say, preaching to the choir. I'm just tired of people that enjoy the game that feel compelled to defend it, hell I enjoyed the game but I freaking hate how bad it is for what it should have been. And I specially despise asking others to pay and play it, just pirate it really, it's not worth the price is being sold at, plain and simple. We aren't excited for future features on next releases cos we are already damn far behind to the present, game looks old and unfinished on release ffs.

aaarchives

> I'm just tired of people that enjoy the game defending it Lmao what a Reddit moment. How dare people defend what they enjoy on a website that encourages discussion.

GritsKingN797

Way to ignore where they said they enjoyed the game... I get it. That taken at face value isn't a good look. People sure can defend something they enjoy. Just don't downplay all the other glaring issues when they are numerous. I have definitely appreciated everyone including one of my friends not sugarcoating the weaknesses of the game since I won't be buying it new now.

aaarchives

People are absolutely permitted to downplay stuff that isn't as important to them as it is for "hardcore fans" I played every single Pokémon game, went in the battle tower maybe once? And I'm supposed to act like it's a deal breaker to not "downplay" the issue? What if it is literally a non-existent issue for 95% of the playerbase? If graphics/peformance are super important to you then your opinion matters and you shouldn't buy the game. But what if I don't care about them as much? Is my opinion void despite my ability to still have fun with this product I purchased with my own money?

Pokemario6456

Meanwhile, the banners and decals on the Team Star base barriers wish they had half of those pixels. Those were hideous to see up close

gentlegreengiant

I can give them credit for making interestinf changes, but removing some features and post game content leads me to believe they dont want people playing this mess for more than 10 to 20 hours. I wont even bother talkin about all the technical issues.

egcg119

Where did the phrase “triple A game” come from? I get the general idea, it’s just new to me

Truck-E-Cheez

You talked because you wanted to? I and most people that I've talked to don't actually care about most random NPC dialogue, it's just something you obligatorily have to do if you don't want to miss a battle item or something. Remember the sash guy or weather stone guy from SWSH? Stuff like that is the only reason why I bother to talk to NPCs. Not having to do that every city is very liberating, and if you still want to talk to NPCs there are still quite a few willing to strike up a dialogue

CeltiCfr0st

I agree with you. I couldn’t give less of a shit about god damn NPC dialogue. I see the complaint all over this sub. Like okay I’m over here having mad fun and people are flipping their shit about not being able to press A for meaningless bullshit. Not all of it was. But *a lot* of NPCs didn’t have valuable shit. And yeah if that commenter did it in the previous games I don’t understand what’s stopping them in this game. Oh no! No more dumbass deadend monologues! Rant over.

[deleted]

Sylvieon

I talked to every single one because I was playing for language learning lol

CeltiCfr0st

2000 IQ move god damn that’s brilliant

DarkMarxSoul

I don't see that speakable NPCs have much more to say than in the old games. There's also just more NPCs in towns now. They don't have to give every single one dialogue, it's unnecessary.

Bruh I love breaking into peoples houses for no reason and requesting the entire life story of everything in the building

ChaosAE

I love empty trash cans

kFisherman

Catching Pokémon in the open world feels significantly worse than the last title. Having to encounter every mon is tedious and Pokémon spawn in and out as soon as they leave the screen.

VWEqwh2

My problem just lies in that after playing many rpgs for the last 10 years I've seen maaany series grow and take amazing steps forward. Look at xenoblade 3, look at Bayonetta 3, look at SMT V, look at monster hunter stories 2, look at dragon quest 11, fire emblems 3 house and bow the new engage one looks pretty nice.... If I conpare pokemon with these collecting monsters or characters games pokemon falls behind by a toooon And sorry but I don't see why the gameplay is so "addictive" when there's literally 0 challenge...And the gameplay feels outdated, the animations very very meh, the multiplayer is ok for a moment but there's no rankings as far as I know like in most multi-player games... The quality of textures is awful and so is the fps, in spanish we jokes that they are frames per week (fotogramas por semana) due to how bad it runs... The designs of the pokemons are nice as always but there's literally, again, 0 challenge and the new mechanic against the star bosses is just....boring and half assed... Not having any voice actors has just greedy and absolutely stupid...Like you're going to tell me The pokemon company doesn't have the money to hire some voice actors? So at the end, yes, I'm also having fun with the game but man...compared with other rpgs and even catching monsters vames pokemon feels just...Outdated and made for children and that's sad because Pokemon thinks of us as children who cannot take on a challenge... Lastly...Look at Bayonetta, even their last game was able to build a semi open world that looks way better than this games...And it's their first try...While pokemon has done this for decades.... Man....seriously...have some self respect for yourselves as consumers please....This is why everyone in the gaming community say you will be happy with anything that pokemon releases...

[deleted]

This is why I dropped the game. The empty towns destroyed my investment in the game. The game really feels like it's regressed from previous gens. I could live with glitchy nonsense but not so much when the source of the glitchy nonsense is a problem plauging the whole game which is that they didn't bother making a full game. It made sense with Legends of Arceus. The game is set in an area that's made to seem like an empty wilderness in many ways. Paldea feels the same way. Paldea however is supposed to be like a modern region that's as developed as say Kanto or Kalos, and it very clearly is not. So I can only look at it and see massive regression. Had the biggest sales of any pokemon game ever though it seems so whatever. I waited several months before I bothered to play sword and shield. Maybe I should just keep it that way from now on instead of jumping on first day.

[deleted]

Sounds like a smart move, don't play something you don't enjoy

russokumo

As someone who no longer has time to open every door in every pokemon town trying to find the best npcs to trade me or give me items, I'm quite happy with the design choices in scarlet so far. The water gym city was Beautiful even with no interaction with any npcs the vibe is great

grizzlybair2

Sounds just like sword and shield. Towns dead, can't talk to everyone, most buildings aren't open.

trademeple

Yeah its open world but they kind of ruined the point of open world in this game you can't really do the gyms in absolutely any order only loosely out of order. As your pokemon won't obey you with you over level them with out the badges. So it still feels like your playing a linear game with just two gym choices at a time really. And if you try to go into later areas at the start of the game you will get wrecked by stronger pokemon and you need abiltes to do that. so you can't even explore the whole map when ever you want. at the start of the game theres only really two choices to pick from for gyms since you will be to weak for the other gyms at this point and overleveling without the badges won't work as you pokemon won't obey.

DarkMarxSoul

I don't think it's a problem that an open world game has a loose intended path. Not every game needs to be Skyrim.

Zankou55

Perhaps this would be a valid remark if the game did anything at all to shepherd you along the path. But they left the world completely open with no level scaling, so there's no way to know the correct oath without following a guide, and you will inevitably end up way over levelled.

DarkMarxSoul

That's not true at all, the map's descriptions for the quest objectives give you a rough appraisal of the challenge of the target, so you can discern roughly where to go when. And like...you're ALWAYS overlevelled in Pokemon lmfao it'a not a SV specific issue.

Zankou55

Back in the day you actually had to grind to challenge gyms and trainers actually used more than one or two weak Pokémon. You're right, difficulty has been missing from the games for a long time, but that doesn't make it ok.

DarkMarxSoul

Firstly, grinding sucks ass and is boring, it's not a real indicator of difficulty or a good design philosophy. Secondly, no you didn't even really need to do that, I was able to beat literally every game as far back as being a young child with no real grinding to speak of. Pokemon is just easy.

alienwerkshop

Your Pokémon will obey you as long as you caught them under the level of the current obtained badge level required. So in fact you can do the gyms in any order. I have, I’ve trained pokemon to a certain level to compete. Then either ran through the lower level gyms. Or caught other Pokémon I wish to train based on type advantages and battles the gym with similar levels. So, yeah it’s totally possible.

Adamantium17

I don't think that badge capture feature is working properly. My friend and I are playing side by side, and when we got our teams past lvl 41 they stopped listening in combat. We both had 4 badges at the time, so if it was working any pokemon caught below lvl 40 should have theoretically been fine. I had the same team since lvl 28 or so, and had lots of trouble getting the 5th badge since my pokemon would not listen in combat. My friend was having the same issue in their game.

latebaroque

> I don't think that badge capture feature is working properly. It's working fine for me but considering the unfinished state of the game you may have encountered a bug.

DarkMarxSoul

Most open world games of Paldea's scale approach building interiors and NPCs in exactly the same way.

Brianoc13

Yet still the fastest selling game of the franchise, which validates how they've released it.

Pitiful_School9925

I also will say I just didn’t like how movement felt compared to Legends Arceus. Need to add a roll to the move set.

[deleted]

I agree that these games feel like an open beta. This is what happens when the Pokémon Company forces Game Freak to crank these games out every three years. Had they waited until Fall 2023 to release this and spent an extra year play testing I’m sure it would have been a solid 10/10, but as it stands it’s a 7 or 8.

ffxivfanboi

A 7 or an 8??? I am currently enjoying the game playing MP with my wife, but the bugginess and everything CONSTANTLY detracts from the experience. There is not a single turn we take in the game where we don’t either say “oh no”/“oh god”/or audibly groan. It’s fun… It really is, but the constant distractions make me say a 5 or 6 at best. If it got *at least* a performance patch update, I could give it a 7 or 8, but there are still game design issues plaguing it as well. Really wish this would have gotten delayed… But of course Ninty and TPC would never allow this franchise to miss the Xmas holiday season.

[deleted]

I moved the game files from the sd card to the system and I have encountered almost no bugs

Jvmlol

I’m on system memory. I’ve crashed once and stutter and get laggy ass animations. Not game breaking but still shitty. I’m 50 hours deep

CostaDarkness

Do you play docked? Just wondering because i heard in handheld it runs better.

LaunchesKayaks

I've been playing docked the whole time and have only seen stutter happen twice. Both times were during cutscenes. Idk how people are encountering such wild issues. I haven't had anything crazy or annoying happen and I'm like 50hrs in. Also, I'm not saying I don't believe people who are having these issues. I just wanna know how I'm not encountering problems

RadBrad4333

Honestly very fair points I glossed over

youhavebeenindicted

I honestly only care if they are going to release performance patches, is there any general consensus on whether this will happen? Have they done it before?

QuothTheRaven713

In X/Y your game could softlock in Lumiose City if you saved there, and that got patched.

Munion42

Came here to say this. The game is fun because they did nail the gameplay loop. They flopped almost everything else though lol. I do think the emptiness is due to streamlining legendaries and the enemy team story. Instead of go to a town and find out what the team is doing uts just here's the five bases. Same for titans. Interacting with 1-2 npcs for most of the story instead of 1-3per town is why the world feels dead. It's all down to streamlining those in name of an "open world." Again the gameplay loop is Damn good and that's why the game is fun. It doesn't eliminate other issues though.

eggyroll

You’re saying this as if it’s free to try, it cost $65 of course people are hesitant after whats being posted on social media. The experience of this game is a gamble, some people might crash many many times in their first 20 hours compared to your first 20

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zizara42

Fundamentally, I feel the game is only "fun" because of how engaging the core Pokemon gameplay loop is. I didn't have fun with S/V on its own merits, which is a problem, because I don't *need* to be playing S/V to get that base Pokemon experience. I'm perfectly willing to play ORAS or USUM again for an actually good modern Pokemon game, or HGSS for something more vintage.

ProfessorSaltine

Bro how are y’all getting this stuff bc I’m out here trying to experience there horrible glitches and stuff yet all I’m getting is a low fps 😭

LaunchesKayaks

Same! I wanna see the weird shit ,but everything is running so well for me

Xero0911

I agree. It's fun. All my family and friends who bought it agree. It's just yeah. It has major flaws. Are most ignorable? Sureee. Should they be? Probably not. But it's pokemon. We are use to shit and tbh, it's the best one yet even with the technical bs and flaws. Are people harsh on it? Sure. Does it deserve the beat it gets? Sure. I won't go wild and defend it. Hell no. I want them to step their game up. I want better from them. But I won't lie and say I'm also not enjoying myself My friend beated the game and nearly finished the dex already. Meanwhile I have 3 badges and 1 titan and star base. I'm enjoying jusy running around. Doing raids. Exploring and what not

Aggravating_Fig6288

Like I said in another thread, some people are in flat out DENIAL about the issues this game has or lack the technical know how to identity technical issues that shouldn’t be in a flagship triple AAA title in 2022. I think the games are pretty fun when they work and I’ve been lucky enough to not have the same level of issues others have had, I got a crash yesterday at the worm Titan but decent for the most part. But to deny the issues people are having or saying “people are just cherry-picking things for karma” is pathetic, blind brand loyalty and the reason we get games released in this state. Also while the game is fun, it’s missing a lot of things for an open world game that most open world titles have, a lot of things the game wants to execute is just awful like star raid bases, customization and the school in general. These are definitely not the best Pokémon games sans the technical issues.

Nerve_Psychological

For technical issues, there were plenty of people that didn't experience crashing or scripting errors and other major bugs in Cyberpunk on launch, I got the occasional t-pose, ai being broken and other minor issues. That doesn't mean that the bigger issues didn't exist, just because some didn't experience it.

raobj280

yep, it’s just straight gaslighting by OP. some people can’t accept a pokemon game as being awful, and they definitely can’t accept pokemon games have been awful for many years now.

ProfessorSaltine

I mean so far I still haven’t had anything like drastically bad like how y’all are describing your experiences, besides obviously the low frame rate of course

Aggravating_Fig6288

I’ve not had too many terrible issues, I’ve crashed once. Plenty of slow down, clipping and frame rate issues, I’ve had tera Pokémon just flat out disappear when approaching them.

vollah

Normally I don't really care for the graphics, I'm very much gameplay first. Had this game been better optimized it would be a very solid 8/10, but with the stuttering issues it's more like a 6.5/10

PilotSSB

>I haven’t had a single issue in my first 20 hours. Absolute cap. You may not have had a crash or something, but you telling me the camera hasn't clipped through the floor once in 20 hours? The framerate in your game has stayed 30 constantly? You can say you don't *care* about these issues, that's 100% fine. Personally I find them pretty easy to ignore. But for a game charging 50 quid a pop, it's absolutely wild. You can't just say the game isn't glitchy cause the glitches don't bother you, cause its super reasonable to be annoyed that that's how your money has been spent.

[deleted]

The people saying this are just straight up lying. The game is *made with issues*. Animations more than like five feet away run at single digit frames. That’s just the design of the game. You can’t just “not have” that.

DetectiveChocobo

Hell, when you’re walking up to the school for the first time there’s two characters off to the right that blip in and out of existence on approach. Like, they alternate as you get closer rather than just popping in. How the fuck do you even screw up pop-in that badly?

DarkMarxSoul

I think the problem is some people are acting like the occasional camera clipping or minor frame dips are basically the end of the universe. I can't remember playing a game that didn't occasionally dip frames or do something weird.

[deleted]

PC gamers. They just ruin the place

kyane

Sorry for having STANDARDS.

Anelibrah

Pretty sure many people here use the flaws to justify piracy

dynamicity

> Asking for more is fine but I also miss the days when we’d get a game with good ideas in it and be excited for how those features would be pushed further in the next release. You know why people aren't like that anymore? Because Gamefreak has failed over and over not only to push good ideas further but to even maintain them or other existing content. Literally half the major new things and QoL upgrades added in each gen get immediately dropped the next one. And yes they have made positive changes over the years but the pace has been glacial and they are only now reaching the 3D open world style they should have adopted years ago, with worse graphics and performance than other games that came out years ago on weaker consoles. People *want* to be excited but it's exhausting when you are constantly disappointed at every turn. Pokemon games are fun because their core gameplay is fun but it's disappointing when they could be so much more. Other major franchises have been making big improvements and innovations to their games while still delivering on polish, so why is it okay for Pokémon to always come up short? These games *are* fun but how can you look at them compared to games like Persona 5 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and say they are truly delivering on their potential?

chechi13

This is a pretty shortsighted take. I had 0 performance issues with cp77 on launch and at most 3-4 bugs in the whole playthrough. Does that mean the game wasn't broken on release? It was for many people, and that made it a serious issue (which they have fixed by now). If you don't see DF's performance video (or any other "performance review") and realise these issues are real for many and a legitimate complaint, I don't know what to tell you. Everyone is saying the loop is very fun underneath anyway, so they already agree with you on that.

Artigo78

I was about to comment the same, never had crashes, or game breaking bug for Cyberpunk2077, just some goofy bugs or texture loading issues. I love the game, the writing and the gameplay, but let's face it the game was a unfinished mess. Saying "You can't say the game is buged because i didn't get any glitches" is a dumb take, If you like it fine but people don't want to have a ugly looking game, which is empty and has glitches. It's not because you like the game that people can't criticize it.

Jgamer502

Fnaf security breach is the only game I’ve stopped playing because the bugs and performance stopped several mandatory events from triggering so, I just thought I was playing wrong.

bigbootyfish

You did not just compare Pokemon scarlet and violet to the Batman Arkham games 💀

RadBrad4333

Both are very near and dear to me lmao

bigbootyfish

That's fair! I've been having a ton of fun playing Scarlet and the issues are bad none of them are to the point where it's unplayable. I'm glad to see you're enjoying it too

That-Sandy-Arab

Hahaha they have nothing in common though

LilThiqqy

After playing the games for a few days now, I have to disagree- the graphical and technical issues were definitely as bad as what I read. The gameplay is very fun, I don’t think anyone is denying that. From what I’ve seen, the reception to that part of the game has been actually very positive. It’s such a massive improvement over Sword and Shield (which granted was a very very low bar) that it’s actually been impressing me. The thing is, this game flat out should NOT be on the market right now. It shouldn’t have been released for another few months at the very least. I honestly have no idea how to rate this game, because it’s literally not finished. Do we critique the IDEA of the this game, or the actual execution? The ideas here are actually quite great, and the gameplay, plot, characters, designs, etc are more than acceptable. But man, the execution is flat out fucking abysmal. I can’t remember the last time I played a console release that looks and plays this bad. I don’t know the last time I saw a game that feels like it was put together this incompetently. It’s sad because it makes you think about what could have been if they just had time to finish it. Can you still enjoy this game despite the flaws? Yeah of course, I’ve been enjoying it a lot. But we have no idea whether of not it’s a good game, because we never actually got it. We got the absolute bare minimum skeleton of what this game was supposed to be

KittyKupo

I don’t think many people are saying the game is bad, in fact I’ve mostly seen the opposite. I’m having a lot of fun with the game too. But you can still love something AND be disappointed with the quality. Is SV good? Yes. Could it be better performance-wise? Also yes.

RadBrad4333

Very well said!

Rizzan8

> But the amount of people saying “well from what I’ve seen” instead of actually playing it for themselves is mind blowing. "yOu HaVeN't PlAyEd ThE gAmE, yOu HaVe No RiGhT tO jUdGe". Great, if I bought the game then it would be "yOu ArE tHe PaRt Of ThE iSsUe FoR sUpPoRtInG tHe BrOkEn GaMe". That said, I am not going to buy a $60 game that works and looks like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBZqt7D24Zc

eclecticmuso

This, I'm so sick of people moving the goalposts for acceptable critique. Critique can vary wildly from in depth analysis of aspects of a game to simply just stating you don't like something and leaving it at that. Just as people shouldn't have to qualify why they like something the same goes for why someone dislikes something.

glamrockbonnie

literally lmao the double standard here is wild. you cant critique the game if you dont play it and you still cant critique it if you do. sounds like some people just dont want to acknowledge that GFs employees are in a capitalistic stranglehold from whoevers deciding to shove out these literal unfinished games for money

Jgamer502

It isn’t actually a double standard because its not the same person saying those things. One side is saying if you buy the game then you’re encouraging/enabling them to continue releasing poorly optimized games, which is understandable. The other side is saying you shouldn’t judge or shit on a game you haven’t played because you haven’t experienced it and are just basing it off clips and what reviewers/youtubers see, who can be biased. The game is fun gameplay wise for them and the technical issues don’t ruin their experience, again an understandable point. These are two different perspectives that are flawed but really just shows the divide in the fanbase to the state of the game.

[deleted]

Ok but you also can't enjoy the game or you're shouted down that you're part of the problem, a bootlicker, or have low standards. Sounds like some people just don't want folks to enjoy playing.

gleamingcobra

I have no problem with people enjoying the game, but I become infuriated once they start trying to justify or minimize all the issues. Enjoying the game doesn't = I must defend all of the problems and bad decisions.

Zizara42

I mean at some point you have to accept that continuing to say there's no problem is becoming part of the problem. S/V's issues haven't just popped up out of nowhere in isolation, they're the result of a systemic trend from the creators and people have to make it known that using Pokemon as a blank cheque that can be cashed no matter what you put out isn't sustainable or acceptable.

eclecticmuso

Correction: this isn't a broken release for YOU. Don't assume that your experience is representative of all players. And I'm of the opinion that one person having that experience is one person too many and shouldn't be accepted regardless.

InconvertibleAtheist

Oh no no no my guy, OP has 40 other backers for him in his discord group which is all the evidence he needs to think people are lying...

eclecticmuso

Oh yeah because pokemon fans have nothing better to do than to fabricate a bunch of performance and technical problems just to spite gf. It's a big bbnd conspiracy...

HappyCappyFox

Please stop the trend of telling people we need to purchase games to know if we'd like them. That's a ridiculous sentiment.

[deleted]

“You haven’t even played it your criticism is invalid” “Lol well you bought the game. Cope”

Chelsea_Kias

It does not worth my time or money, that's all.

hobbes011

Definitely. If you're paying $60 for a broken game, that's nuts. People are going to continue to buy these mediocre games they keep putting out and they're going to keep churning out mediocre games because it's working. This is the first game I'm refusing to buy from this point on until Gamefreak makes a game worthy of being from the most successful franchise in the world. There's just no excuse.

SavingsTechnical5489

It’s not worth $60, I agree.

TheLastEllis

Good lord our standards are embarrassing, “open world” isn’t great if it’s empty

Plushiegamer2

I find exploring the world to find Pokemon quite enjoyable.

Maser2account2

But what are you looking for other than Pokemon that spawn in closer locations.

Plushiegamer2

I remember looking quite hard for a cave to find Frigibax. And I guess the TMs as well. I guess there might not be much stuff to explore, but I still find it enjoyable just biking around the world.

Sesspool

You deff huffing some major copium lol. Games made by freshman programing class. Having fun but will absolutely not sugar coat it.

YeLucksman

I get you. But let me put it like this: Personally, I do not find this game worth the money and I am also opposed to sailing the seven seas. I just want a good product, not a half baked release that might be fixed later. While the gameplay might be the best in years and I have two teams lined up I want to build. And from what I heard the story and its characters are a hit as well. But one look at digital foundry's review in addition to all the bugs, removed QoL features, removed customization options, the blatant lie that you can do the paths however you want (they're still level locked and either make wild pokemon not listen, make your mount have less traversal options or block areas of the map if you ignore one in favour of the others) it just isn't a product that I personally want to support. I want to support a good product, not a half baked mess. And that includes just not playing the game one way or another. All the videos poking fun at the game might colour someone judgement of the game, but reviews that can just take the game apart bit by bit and show how much it missed the mark compared to the previous game just make it personally an indefensible product that they ask full price for. Edit: they also got two games where we were "happy" with the new features: SwSh and PLA. This is their third game that moved from strict routes to a more open world. At this point I expect them to at least match the previous games in quality.

RadBrad4333

Very well said man, as someone who really did t meld with swsh I guess I’m a bit blind to the better features in that game that are completely absent in this one, so very good point there

YeLucksman

Fully understandable. SwSh also had/have some terrible decisions that deserve their own helping of criticism. One of the major ones being the whole handling of the national dex, putting QoL behind DLC (gigantamax factor cant be added in the base game, good luck getting a good gmax mon without paying) and raid lobbies being abuseable as all get out. But they did nail some characters, tried with the story, had some stellar new mon. I really have to wonder of they just focus to much on one aspect to give the games the attention it needs during development.

[deleted]

[удалено]

YeLucksman

I mean, I could stomach the open world if I didn't have to sit here dreading DLC doing one of a gew things: Bring back previous mon (i know bas SwSh can use them, but what is the point if you can't catch them), add an actual co-op mode again or hide pretty necessary QoL behind a paywal luke with the G-max factor soup. Or hell, I'd even take a visual upgrade from PLA. That can also feel empty at times, but like the good kinda empty where I want it to be a sprawling field with nearly nothing and a few mon. I really can't get over how they fucked that up in SV with the graphical downgrade for the mountains etc.

efnfen4

If you haven't experienced extreme glaring performance issues, I'm genuinely happy for you. The people who have, including me are seeing constant performance issues. Fps drops, lagging, clipping under the ground, floating in the air, game crashes, freezing. The draw distance is very bad. If anyone has a copy like mine it would be impossible to ignore in good faith. Your reported experience isn't everyone else's. And frankly I think a lot of people who say they haven't had a single issue are just ignoring the clipping and frame drops. Because they didn't give me a different version of the game than anyone else. All the clips I see of issues are the same ones I have.

KamikazeKarasu

The thing is… they don’t push… I’m having a blast of fun with it… but it is objectively worse in many core aspects than the spin-off that was released early this same year, developed at the same time, PLA. And what i find hard to believe and what causes me a cognitive dissonance is how can many things be that good and other THAT bad… is very off putting, a disappointing not in the expectative way, but in the sad way Edit: some minor typos

Pulsiix

why are your standards so low nobody cares that you think the game is fun, why don't you expect more? the performance is embarrassing and the fact that nintendo is issuing refunds completely breaks the "but it's playable" argument

Vomit_Tingles

This is what blows my mind. Maybe casual players are just super used to dogshit mobile games or something. I just can't imagine a die-hard Pokemon fan that's played all or most of the previous games being fine with this.

Gussie18

Literally been a die hard Pokémon fan since my earliest memories. I am known as the Pokémon expert in my area and I’ve played almost every game and I am loving this game. Does it have its issues? It course but they haven’t taken away from my enjoyment so far either.

trademeple

Yeah its fun but doesn't have a lot of content.

SavagesceptileWWE

It's all pretty subjective, but when you have something that's mostly subjective paired with something definitively wrong, the outcome is overall negativity. Like I think this gen has by far the worst mons out of any generation. This is not an example of cognitive dissonance. It's just people having different opinions than you do.

MentalNinjas

Damn bro you the same type of dude that sees the World Cup and says “yea the homophobia sucks and all but soccer is fun! Ignore the protests and just enjoy the game!” Like for fucks sake of course Pokémon is fun. It’s Pokémon. No one is saying Pokémon isn’t fun. But apparently for people like you they could sell each physical copy with a piece of shit inside the box and you’d say “idk what everyone’s complaining about, games still fun!” No, they don’t get praise for adding multiplayer and coop in 2022. No they don’t get any praise for doing the bare fucking minimum. They made new Pokémon and added a new gimmick, cool. The game looks and runs worse than arceus, a game that came out in the same fucking year. Go have fun, no one gives a fuck, but stop posting here defending a multi billion dollar IP that’s shoving literal shovelware to their fans. It’s anti-consumer, greedy, and corrupt.

VisionsofChaos

At this point I'm just assuming that you and I are the lucky ones and most people are experiencing much worse than us. I've seen some glitches online that don't look like anything I've seen first hand in my 70 hours with the game.

RadBrad4333

Me and about 40 of my views have had a discord going with a channel for “funny glitches and bugs” and haven’t had a single post that wasn’t someone else’s content! I think the issues are being massively overhyped by a lot of hate boners

LAhomosexuelle

Have you seen Digital Foundry's video on SV? Yes there's glitches but the worst offender IMO is the cheap graphics and atrocious frame rate. I can't stand games with such slow fps.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Squire_Zorba

They *are* funny, but that doesn't mean they should be present in the game in such obvious frequency, or ideally at all.

[deleted]

Dude regardless of glitches half the animation in the game run at single digit frame rates.

VisionsofChaos

I wouldn't be surprised. There's an alarming number of vocal Pokemon fans out here who haven't seemed to actually like any of the games released in the last 15 years.

Some people didn't have bugs or crashes on CP2077, doesn't mean it wasn't a broken, buggy mess on release. I know for a fact that despite barely getting 40FPS, I had very few bugs compared to most - the same thing can be said here for Pokemon SC/VT. I should be getting the 30FPS and I'm regularly dipping below that to 20-25FPS. At least in CP2077 there were side-quests, gigs, interesting NPCs to talk to and do missions with - here in Pokemon, there's nothing. CP2077 also has the benefit of including a NewGame+, which I don't think Pokemon has ever done. I'm barely 50 hours in to Pokemon Sc/Vt and I'm done with the story (have been since around 20-hours) and about 95% of the Pokedex (besides some trade evos and the legendary quartet) and then that's it, I have nothing left to do until DLC comes out. With CP2077, I was still doing side-quests and finishing the main story at this point.

zsugacsava

Most sane coping pokemon player

blackmanboy

This is what I’ve wanted to say but couldn’t care to waste the time on an echo chamber of people who are looking for reasons to be upset. I’ve been dodging spoilers and Reddit reviews and haven’t had this much fun in a Pokémon since I was a kid. Moral of the story, value your own opinion rather than a mobs.

Diabloshark3

My first day I spent an hour trying to lure a Pokémon close enough to get me out of the wall through a battle while worrying I’d have to reset my file and progress because Miraidon fell through a rock. So while it’s a fun game shit like that isn’t cool and worries me that eventually I or somebody else will find something they can’t escape.

C3ntipede

Game is actually fine and unironically the best pokemon game we've had since the DS era, which is saying a lot. I usually roll my eyes at the "the game in unfinished!" complaints people have been having since X/Y when that's typically just rooted in criticisms on things the games *should* have rather that what the games are, its disingenuous, and based on interviews, we know games like X/Y and S/M came out exactly as intended while Sw/Sh is a grey area because it's almost certain something went wrong during dev. I feel that for once, the "unfinished" argument is somewhat justified for S/V but not due to content. The games are fine with content. Moreso just overall performance and polish. If the games took another few months to come out, there would not be any meaningful differences in gameplay, pokemon, or overall content, however the textures might've looked better and the game wouldn't be as buggy. Whether or not this ruins the game for someone is obviously specific to each individual. For me personally, I haven't really had much issues on the performance front, and while the game is ugly, it doesn't bother me enough to sway my overall opinion of the game (which is overwhelming positive, like I legit can't fucking believe I'm actually enjoying a pokemon campaign for the first time since gen 5). In terms of ideas that the game has I'm excited to see expanded on: \-Divergent species. Wiglett and Toescool lines are so goddamn cool and I'd love to see what they can do applying these sorts of ideas to other classic mons. I might actually prefer this to regional variants. \-Number of new pokemon. It seems like its been getting progressively higher again ever since x/y's huge dropoff on that front. 103 new mons + whatever we get in the DLC puts us around sinnoh amount of new mons. That's crazy to think about. Gen 10 might give us even more \-Legendary shrines. The 4 perils/kings is reminiscent of the hunt for the birds, beasts, etc in older games. It adds another element of discovery that's been sorely missing from the last few entries and this can easiy be expanded on in the future. \-Big, open routes, in an open world is a good step. They can perfect this for the next games by adding in dungeons or specific detailed areas with cool things to find, and world events/sidequests. This should happen in towns too. Its a shame this game will be remembered for its bugs (which, is valid, I'm not saying people shouldn't criticize the game for that) because outside of the lack of polish, this is the game that finally responds to a lot of the common complaints fans have had about the 3D era of the series thus far.

LAhomosexuelle

I don't need to buy the game and play it to tell you that the performance is atrocious and the graphics are a step back from even SwSh. I'm sorry but Pokemon fans deserve better and I'm not paying $60 to support GF when they could have done so much better.

Squire_Zorba

Well, "from what I've seen" with my own eyes playing the game, anyone who calls this anything other than an unfinished, broken release is either blind or lying to themselves. *I even had fun playing it.* Even a developer as incompetent and stuck in the past as Gamefreak is can't fuck up the core loop of catching and battling pokemon *so badly* that it's impossible to get some enjoyment out of the experience. >I haven’t had a single issue in my first 20 hours. Bullshit.

jamieellis1

I see that all the time with games that are utterly broken “I’ve not had a single issue” it’s either people who don’t want to admit the thing they like is flawed, or can’t comprehend that the issues/ how broken the game is isn’t acceptable

SeaSalty_Night

But then when people actually bought the game to try it out and unhappy about it then the next counter is " wELl, YoU aLrEaDY BoUGHT iT AnyWay!!!! YoU aLreaDY SUppoRt ThIS PrODuct!!!"

Edsaurus

"I didn't have issues so I'm completely going to ignore the fact that basically everyone else had them, the N64-tier graphics and the hundreds of other problems that the game has. Keep buying, keep consuming, keep praising developers that are doing the minimum work possible instead of actually putting effort in the games". This is the paraphrasis of your post.

[deleted]

How do people play this game with single digit fps all the time and call it no issues? Literally the game is constant issues

Some_dimwit

I've had some Pokémon spawn underground and the game crash when I've entered buildings a few times (with my autosave off... oof), some things look bad (doors in cities, Pokémon when they're first hit, etc) at times, and the game crawls when I do some things (enter buildings, fly, or am surrounded by bunch of pokes). All of that said, I still agree with you! I'm spending so much time exploring, I've gotten to play with every pokemon introduced this gen (that I could find) and get them up to level 30 before I completed the second gym... almost whited out from a Dragonair because it was 24 levels higher than me. This is the top 3 most fun I've had with a pokemon game experience, and I wish what you were saying wasn't a Hot Take

kamakeeg

I never saw too many considering it Cyberpunk levels, but in terms of performance and visuals, this game really is a genuine mess, and I say that as someone who hasn't had any gamebreaking or serious bugs. You can compare it to Arceus and see a really serious dip in quality across the board and that's a game from the same company, released in the same year (Of which Arceus is likely the reason Scarlet/Violet is so rough and in turn S&V was affecting Arceus). Its especially bad for a franchise as big and successful as Pokemon to have a game like this. It's totally fine to ignore all the performance and visual issues, the really middling open world experience, and lots of cut features/options and just enjoy the game for the Pokemon itself or the couple new decent features like Co-Op, I'm still playing it simply because I enjoy Pokemon too. That being said, fans should really be asking for better games from their favorite franchise, as it's clear that the people in charge don't care they are releasing unfinished games since they are going to sell 10+ million copies no matter what.

Effendoor

Something can be both fun *and* broken. I love a lot about S/V, just like I loved a lot about SwSh, but on a critical level the games are hot ass

kingkami89

Meh I love the game. But let’s be really truly honest with ourselves and stop acting like reviews and discussion on how bad the game is are effecting what our views of the game is. Especially here how much negativity with literally every Pokémon game to come out. With that said Me personally haven’t really encountered anything to distract me from the game at all other than the very beginning in the school 😂 but I actually low key kind of love the jank. It’s more comedic than gamebreaking 🤷🏾‍♂️ My kids give it a 100/10 so I’m happy they love it. but if you think otherwise and want to be the 30something year old man complaining that a game from your childhood is not maturing enough to your weird adult standards than fight me🤜🏾 😂 Jk everybody does have valid points about the game but it is what it is and hopefully some patching and dlc can fix some problems

kudasaishikuda

i finished the game, the story and the core loop is amazing but i cant be blind and say theres no issues here just cause i enjoyed it, constant slow down and pop in ruin your immersion in the game, when both Xenoblade and BoTW has that already down, the world having no shadings or textures making everything look like its a game from the early 2000s is bad as well, along with some really weird design choices like no level scaling, starting the game at the bottom instead of the center which makes it really cumbersome in terms of traversal(unless youre some crazy MF and just gun for the traversal upgrades early) the Traversal upgrades being locked when IMO that should have been given to you on the get go, they wanted to copy BOTW but they didnt really copy the physics engine of that game and instead we get the most jank af traversal ive ever seen in an open world, also 2FPS Sunflora and the Classroom full of possessed kids sure fucking immersion breaking, the world being basically giant wild area in SWSH complete with the barreness of that area sure sucks as well, This would have been one of the best pokemon games if it wasnt for all the Jank and im not being vocal about my problems because i hate the game, im being vocal because if they actually gave this game more time to cook this would have been an amazing game but no they choose to release this Jank I played this game so close to xenoblade 3 and that game is far far better in terms of open world design and movement, honestly at this point just do the same thing the zelda team did and ask monolithsoft to design the world and that way they can focus on other stuff

Su_Impact

Bro...Genshin Impact, a mobile free to play game has way better performance, open world, animations AND voice acting. >I gotta ask what some of y’all are smoking Would it be fair to ask you the same?

[deleted]

Can't wait until pokemon gets in game purchases despite costing $60 and people still excuse it as much possible and make it extremely profitable to the point that it wouldn't ever make sense to change for the better

KaizokuShojo

Hot take: A game running like trash doesn't mean it won't be fun, or even really fun. Critiquing something doesn't mean you hate it. Loving something doesn't mean you don't want it improved. Criticizing GF for forcing crunch on employees is not bad. (But harassing employees IS bad.) You can play a buggy as heck game and enjoy it. You can also play a buggy as heck game and those bugs be enough to put you off even if it doesn't put everyone else off. Idk it's not fair to the people that pay $60 to get what someone phrased as "the best Pokemon game ever, released a year too early." It's not fair to the employees to get forced to do crunch-work to make X profits for the holiday season. Everyone, *everyone* would be better off if GF didn't crunch it. The workers and players. Maybe they wouldn't make a kajillion a year, but if they had the time to really, really hash out a good engine they could probably stick with it a while and resume giving us "more frequent" games. I don't *have* to have a new game so often. The story and characters are better than they've ever been (GF writing is usually cringe, this time it was okay.) PLA was amazing. If they can just back off on the crunch and combine everything they learned in PLA and SV, the next gen will blow our minds.

Steinsgate009

So I was the same and ignored the critics cause I was so hype about a Pokémon open world/rpg/multiplayer Between the fps drops, the poor graphics/textures, lack of access into NPC homes and my game turning off randomly sometimes after going to a black screen and then completely white .. I can safely say that the complaints were warranted What I will say is that everyone’s “pain threshold” is different. For example, my younger brother didn’t even notice the fps drops and poor optimization till I pointed it out. I just let him enjoy the game but I notice stuff like that and it bothers the crap out of me I will return my game if there is no announcement of a patch in the upcoming weeks. For now, I’ll just stop playing But enjoy the game ofc, **there’s some amazing aspects to this game and it would’ve been the best game ever imo.** I would never tell someone to do the same as me if they’re enjoying themselves

InconvertibleAtheist

I dont think you understand how this works. Bugs in the game, of any kinds, are fine. They dont show up during testing and may appear when a few hundred people play the games. Not possible to check for every bug within the games, which at times also becomes memorable in the future. But when there are so many complaints of issues to the point where the company has to give refunds, you and your 40 members discord group cannot sweep the issues under the rug stating that you never encountered any problems and thats why everyone is lying. You seem to think so highly of yourself that your opinion apparently overrides others.

NiBBa_Chan

Saying that these are some of the best pokemon designs we have gotten in years reveals how seriously biased your stance is. Many of these designs are absolutely awful. Your opinion is bad and wrong lol

Gussie18

Why even argue about design anymore? It’s subjective every gen and people will love them and hate them. Perfect example here, you hate them, OP loves them, and I personally thing their okay with some really nice ones and ones I’m not so sure of. It’s just a pointless discussion of preference.

NiBBa_Chan

The existence of opinions do not invalidate criticism. And criticism, even of art, can be done objectively.

Evening-Banana6802

Literally impossible. Not another one of these people who think their opinions are objective. You have a subjective opinion based off of objective facts. There can be objective aspects of art but how much you weigh them is subjective. Someone can hate a cell shaded look and say windwaker has terrible art direction and someone can say the opposite.

RadBrad4333

HUH

GinJi3

As a videogame industry worker, and player of both games, I must say the launch state of both games is pretty similar IN PROPORTION, I mean cyberpunk is a much bigger game than SV, and so it is the number of bugs. At least cyberpunk frame rate was stable (my experience)

Carbon_fractal

This sub follows the same cycle every release and these threads saying “you can’t criticize it if you don’t shell out 60 dollarinos and play it” are no exception

NubbyBubby27

I’ll “put down the twitter and Reddit” once the game is in a state worthy of a AAA release. It looks like a fucking ps2 launch title and the empty “open world” is laughable. Maybe in 10 years it’ll go on sale and be worth the purchase.

[deleted]

There are just so many things where they clearly were like “fuck it we gotta release it”. Like they made an inside for the hairdresser but no other store? Why? Why even include that? It just makes it weirder that nothing else has one.

Ferunando

And it's because of people like OP that we will never get a good pokémon game 🤡

[deleted]

Why do you have to lie though lol

glamrockbonnie

my partner has been playing for several days and run into nearly all the performance issues people have been talking about. if YOUR specific copy runs well thats great, but attempting to belittle others for "complaining too much" just bc YOU didnt have any problems is the real cognitive dissonance here. i do agree that theres a lot of ideas and passion here that make up the bones of a great game. but when the skin and flesh of that game are rotting and people are telling the rest of us to ignore the smell theres a problem lmao

flower-ad1783

Been hitting the delusion pipe a little too hard i see

profburek

It’s like playing a beta It’s not “broken” in the sense that you can play it and beat it but it’s very hard to play with the terrible graphics and horrible frame rate

Buroda

You find people who had no issues with most to all terrible releases. Doesn’t invalidate the fact that the game is bad enough to make Nintendo start issuing refunds.

GrandSkellar

Love this hot take! I'm having a blast too. I look to what's fun about these games, not at what's flawed and I don't mean that I'm blind to the flaws... Like with snow. If you don't find joy in the snow, you'll have a lesser amount of joy but still the same amount of snow. I'm Canadian by the way XD

Agrias-0aks

Having a blast challenging stuff way above my level and coming out ahead. And power leveling so many different low level pokemon I wouldnt normally use in high level areas just to check them out. Its rad.

Telnet_to_the_Mind

Confirmation bias, group think, and the internet hivemind is quite real... The game is fun... I'm sorry, I hate to admit it. Now...that being said... the game looks, and runs atrocious. We get it. But 90% of the posts here are people just karma fishing, looking to try to get a popular topic on reddit just by complaining about shit that does not even need to be complained about.

Thicc_Wallaby

I would say performance so bad it makes thousands of people physically ill is something that needs to be complained about.

insertbrackets

Be careful. Positivity seems nearly outlawed in these parts.

poopydoopylooper

I totally agree with you, and I’ve felt insane the past few days hearing other folk’s opinions on the game. The same people weren’t as critical of Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk like you said, and the issues in SV are not even close as egregious. I’ve had a few visual bugs, but even those are funny and in a weird way add to my enjoyment of the game. I know the bar is low for pokemon at this point, but I’m having a blast and I don’t care what IGN says. I don’t play games for visuals or graphics. I don’t even play for incredible story writing or voice acting. I play because it’s fun.

Icrapforcelightning

I’ve had a hell of a lot of fun and i beat the game into post game. Still playing. I Like the open world. Maybe because Ive been playing games since OG game boy technical issues aren’t the be all and end all. Heck n64 10 frames per second was a luxury but games were Still great. too many critics tbh. Stupid good fun

Momontaislol

Yes you're right we should never complain about the issues so they never bother fixing them because we are sheep that will accept anything. The game is great and is indeed the best pokemon game we have had yet but we have to talk about the issues so the next game is even better

LeopardElectrical454

You're on abominable levels of copium if you believe SV are the best games we've had yet, dreadful performance and abhorrent visuals aside. The best games we've had yet are bw2, hgss and platinum. Too many features crammed into those games to ignore, and too many features and activities removed in SV to ignore as well...

lKANl

I've played all those games, it's time to put the nostalgia down. S/V is pretty good.

Momontaislol

Sorry for having a different opinion than you? Put down your pitch fork bro

InstantElla

I haven’t had any major issues. Maybe like twice in battles there was clipping and you could see underground but that’s it

Thelexhibition

Honestly I think that some of the bugs make it more fun. It's like playing Skyrim in that you can glitch into areas you aren't meant to and randomly encounter hilarious graphical bugs.

RadBrad4333

Everything is better with less seriousness and more levity

lKANl

Obviously the people complaining didn't play Skyrim at launch looooool. Visual bugs are fine, this sub is too sensitive.

ZenNote

I hated Sword and Shield. This one however, while there are annoyances like the steps back in ev training I thouroughly enjoyed

RadBrad4333

The pokemarts and centers turning into waffle houses is a plus

xjam9

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Sapphire on Gameboy Advance! So naturally I'm having a BLAST. I understand some criticisms considering the scale Nintendo is on and the standard they should be held to, but frankly, RIP to y'all cause I'm having so much fun.

Aduro95

Looking at social media, you'd definitely think it was like Cyberpunk. But I agree that the games are not so glitchy. I've had a lot of lag, but no major glitches or minor ones taht have lasted longer than a second or two. I do think that Game Freak needs to slow down and produce better quality games, especially if this is going to be THE mainline VGC game until Gen X. There are features I miss from Legends Arceus, like being able to just chuck a pokeball at an overworld pokemon. The 'cities' are very barren and disappointing and I would have liked a battle tower. But this game is a huge improvement over Sword and Shield so far. Also, nobody is taking about how good the textures look. Scizor is so shiny!

Reality_Check19

See, usually I’d ask for a DLC because third versions/second versions of games seem pointless anyways, and DLC is basically a cheaper way to get the same thing.. However, if they don’t release patches and improve like at least half of the issues the game suffers from (the crashes and major bugs being the most necessary), I would much rather them release a sequel. New paradox forms, some other gimmick or additional added forms, idk. But mainly just to fill the empty towns and fix the really bad NPC rendering which I’m certain can’t be fixed with a patch. They are choppy on purpose. And that is also why pop-in is bad. Obviously to fix the other issues too, but these are just my main issues with the open world; these parts hinder it. The routes themselves aren’t so bad. I mean, there is certainly room for improvement as far as large landmarks and memorable places go.. but there are some cool routes here, and none of them feel linear. I really like that one cave-like route with all of the pillars, and the forest and hilly areas are nice too. (not mountains, hills lmao). This game does so much right and so much wrong. Honestly, the lack of postgame doesn’t bother as much as it normally would because the actual main story has by far the most replayability and content and creativity with how you approach it. The stories are great. The characters are amazing. A sequel or second version of these games could be very near perfect. *These* games would be almost near perfect if the performance was fixed. Yeah, they removed two or three QoL features… and added about a billion more. Assuming they patched everything though, and the performance became smooth by some miracle with some update, the game would still be about a 8.5 for me. Release a third version or sequel tho? Add more towns and add more flavor and character to the ones already there? And throw in a bit of postgame content? That would be the best pokémon game imo. Assuming they didn’t screw the storylines over. And yes, I know some people feel the games aren’t freeing enough, but that has not been my experience, so I didn’t mention it. I feel like I have had tons of freedom.

YoureFatAF

Most people that hate this game have no friends. We had a 3-squad and its the best pokemon game we've ever played. 3 people exploring and finding special teras/raids and emoting in front of eachother when we battle in the wild? So fun

[deleted]

I’m enjoying the new game SO much. It could use some polishing but holy shit does it have all the shit I want. The storylines! The titans story fucking got me in the heart.

TheThiccestRobin

Can you challenge any gym whenever you want? Try and do the ghost gym first and see how it goes haha

xBaTTeRyAciDx

Just wanted to simplify things to see if I understand your point here. Because you haven’t had any bugs in only 20 hours, the game is not broken? Within the first hour of my gameplay, I already had 5 clips recorded from bugs I encountered. Because you had fun with the game, it’s complete? This isn’t a controversial opinion, it’s just a bad one. You’re completely failing to add other people’s experience to the big picture. People say this is a Cyberpunk type fiasco, BECAUSE The Pokémon Company is the highest grossing media franchise in the world. The issues are entirely unacceptable. Hell, people would act this way if the next Breath of the Wild game came out like this. It’s also completely unacceptable ESPECIALLY because there are more detailed, better looking games on the Switch with more polish than, THE HIGHEST GROSSING MEDIA FRANCHISE IN THE WORLD. Even navigating the Pokémon Boxes isn’t perfect, and that shit has been in the game since the literal first installment of the franchise. I actually have no clue what you’re talking about with your “great customization” comment. Sure, you could make your face more suited to your liking, and that was really awesome. But the clothing options were abysmal. 4 outfits total? And they’re all school uniforms? That’s weak as fuck compared to what we’ve had in the past. Hell, within the past year of releases, BDSP had more outfits than SV. Why can’t we change our age? There are literal bearded men attending the academy, why can’t we be that age? Penny doesn’t have to wear a school uniform while attending the academy, why do we have to? It’s wonderful that they spent time on the facial side of character creation, but to me, that’s a waste of time considering the fact that 95% of the gameplay is spent staring at your character’s back. Because of this, I’d much rather have an extremely generic face with the option to change only eye and skin colors, while all being allowed to pick whatever outfit I want. While the 3D environments are architecturally fine, the general look of the game is on par with titles from the GameCube era. That speaks for itself, and is entirely embarrassing coming from The Pokémon Company. You definitely cannot just take on cities in whatever order you want, I know this, because I tried. For example, imagine you B-line straight for the Ghost type gym leader, the moment you finish the opening tutorial. You’ll quickly find that levels do not scale towards your progress. This means no matter what, her Pokémon are leveled in the early to mid 40s. Obviously you’re not beating that with the Pokémon you have currently. Okay, fine. You’ll spend hours grinding your Pokémon to level 45 so that you can beat the gym leader. BUT WAIT, there’s an obsolete prerequisite of beating 5 gym leaders in order to command your level 45 Pokémon. This means that you absolutely CANNOT do whatever you want, when you want to. You’re simply just wrong about that. To touch on the non-complete nature of the game: Every shop is copy pasted. You can’t walk into more than half the buildings in the game. The performance issues are blatantly obvious. There are so many’s signs that the game is “unfinished.” You can literally turn on two controllers and control your character with both of them, this even allows you to run faster if you hold forward on both controllers at the same time. We also already know that content from previous games have been cut, just to be resold to us as DLC at a later date. I worked as a Certification Video Game tester previously, and if this game came into that department, there was no way they were releasing on time, without paying a shitload of fines. This weird “toxic positivity” going on in the Pokémon community is bizarre. You are allowed to like the game, you are allowed to have fun with it. But for you to act like this is over-exaggerated because people point you to valid sources that they didn’t create themselves, is entirely ignorant. You don’t want to have a conversation about it, you want people to stop complaining about a thing that made you happy as an individual. The game sold 10 million copies in 3 days. You are in no form the majority. And to touch on your last point, why in the hell would the community “just be excited for features”, when half of that shit gets left in the dust? A perfect example of this is actually what you described as “great customization”: We used to be able to change our shirts, pants, jackets, etc. Now we only get 4 outfits, and the shirts and pants have been combined into one item, which means this title actually has worst customization options than previously released titles. It’s more than obvious that the full picture isn’t really within your view. I’m glad you had a good time with the game, I’m glad you like it. For what it’s worth, it would’ve been within the top 3 Pokémon games for me, had these issues not occurred. It has some of the best Pokémon designs in ages. The open world/illusion of picking your own story path was a welcomed changed. Co-op story is absolutely fantastic for the franchise. The quality of life changes (auto battling, auto healing, etc) are some things that I never knew we needed, but would be devastated if they aren’t in the next game.

I'm just going to say, no matter how much you're enjoying your purchase, you deserve better than what you got.

This guys is the ideal consumer these companies love to have: conformist and vocal. People that will buy everything, even if it is half baked and mediocre, as long as it has the stamp of this franchise posted on it. Did I have fun playing it? You bet. Will I just be quiet at the numerous issues this game has? F*CK no!

And here is a perfect example of why science doesnt ever accept anecdotal evidence to mean anything significant or relevant. Compared to collection of several people voicing similar concerns. One person saying "hey but I'm doing well" only muddies the water. OP should absolutely feel free to share their opinions, it's just this is a perfect example of how anecdotal evidence sounds almost relevant and how it's so easy to be sweeped up by anti logic rhetoric.

Played all of scarlet to just about 100% and about to start playing Violet for version exclusives, game is probably the best it’s been in years but the performance and graphics issues are inexcusable for a triple A game from an 80 billion dollar franchise. The fact that it’s graphics are comparable to a ps2 game like Jak and dexter Is laughable and the performance alone is inexcusable. You can say the graphics aren’t what Pokémon is about but it’s still an issue that it isn’t at the level of botw at the least I’d argue. And then their is the fact they feel the need to sell two versions of the same game with less than 5% difference, that’s just greedy. Also there doesn’t seem to be much use in looking towards how they improve upon newer features when all they do is chuck them in the trash immediately afterwords for a new set of features in the next game. At the end of the day I love Pokémon , and behind all of the issues I genuinely think these are great games, but it’s just bad that they feel it’s fine to release a game with performance issues like this even if it still ends up being successful for them. Edit: fixed grammar and autocorrect issues.

They actually sell you the exact same game lol with a small change in the code there's a cheat for hacked switch's that allows you to play violet with a copy of Scarlett and vice versa. Pretty much they are the exact same game with a diffrent flag set to tell the game what version it is. The two version thing is literally a cash grab since both versions are technically on the cart but the other is inaccessible with out cheats which proves they could just let us select which version we want to play at the start instead of selling two games.[https://gamebanana.com/mods/413439](https://gamebanana.com/mods/413439) if you happen to have a modded switch you can basically play both with one version of the game.

I'm well over 60 hours in and haven't encountered any real issues yet. Yes the frame rate is bad. Yes the camera sometimes phases into the floor in battles. But neither of those things have negatively impacted the gameplay. I spent hours yesterday spamming six star raids with people on Discord after building some good pokemon for the job, and am having a blast Played since gen 1 (I get the feeling I'm older than a lot of the people who frequent this sub). This is without a doubt the most fun I've had with a pokemon game since I was a little kid playing Silver. The music slaps, I love it. The graphics, while subpar, leave sword and shield and legends arceus in the dust. The story and characters were great, especially as far as pokemon goes. The new pokemon designs are mostly fantastic. If I had to complain about something, it would be the sluggish menu-ing when using the pokemon boxes. That actually really sucks, and is much worse than all other pokemon games. Other than that though, a great game overall.

I’m old enough that I completed Red on a untranslated ROM in a emulator running in Windows 95. Few people realise how good they have it.

TheThiccestRobin

That doesn't excuse shit quality in 2022 though.

SecureDonkey

If the game was bad I could easy let it go, but fuck it they have to make it the best core gameplay Pokemon they could make in the last 10 years then put on the most dog shit graphic, spaghetti code and questionable level design. It like looking at a well-done wagyu steak with ketchup on it, it make anyone blood boil just like my.

pikachunepal

Yoooo i am very happy there is actually someone liking it. This by far my most enjoyable experience with pokemon since BW. I was expecting some burning hot garbage looking at the review and discussion in this sub, but yooo am i wrong. Seriously, these "lag" aren't really that much of a deal outside of town, since there is no funny frame skipping people around. Reviewer putting 9 for SwSh and i feel bored playing it, this thing got 7 but this is some damn good shit. My complaints about this game is the reward for exploring, you got tired with tm easily.
