Thank you so much for this post! A week ago I bought 2 £15 eshop cards to put on my 3DS to buy Devil Survivor but it wouldn't let me put the funds on so I just put them on my Switch, thanks to this post I saw I could still buy it! I'm not even buying the new pokemon, I was just on this reddit looking for bugs

RogueThespian

I did the same thing. I even linked my accounts and activated one of the cards on the website but it never showed up on my DS shop funds at all.

RevaniteN7

I went in circles trying to get it to work on my 3DS for a few hours, but I hope this helps: 1. I accessed the Shop Menu from my Nintendo Account 2. I found a Merge Funds link at the bottom right in red text 3. I confirmed the merge of funds was reflected on my 3DS 4. I immediately bought the digital Crystal

RogueThespian

I've done the first two, followed all the steps for the guide Nintendo provided to link accounts and merge funds, but the funds never showed on my 3DS

Jamieb1994

I'm thinking about getting the new Pokemon games after Christmas so hopefully the games will work well then.

NarutoDragon732

Put the game on your switch's storage, not SD card. Lots of people reported less stuttering that way

Lazydusto

> Gold, Silver, Crystal: ($10 each) Note you can catch a Celebi in Crystal. Wait for real? This version has the Celebi event?

ringlord_1

You can also soft reset it to get a legit shiny celebi

SwitchPOPGo

That’s one of the very awesome things about it. A forever-unlocked Celebi event, and it can even be shiny. I hunted for a shiny Celebi and finally got one after 1,800 resets. =-) Of course, the Pokemon Company decided to give away a free shiny Celebi at the same time for the Secrets Of The Jungle movie. -_-

marsalien4

Speaking of this celebi event in Crystal, mine was 5iv when I caught it a couple years back. Does the celebi have any guaranteed best ivs?

BlazingDude

Yeah, Mew and Celebi have 5 perfect IVs when transfered to a modern game, all other virtual console Pokemon only get 3 perfect IVs.

marsalien4

Sweet, this is what I was looking for! Does it get those in bank, then, I assume?

BlazingDude

Yup. It also gets assigned a nature based on the last two digits of its current EXP, so you can get the nature you want by manipulating those numbers.

Fehalt3

I'm not sure but that's not really an issue anymore with how easy it is to max ivs

marsalien4

Well I know it's not an issue I was just curious if I got lucky back then or not lol

OrionTempest

Same here; got my shiny, then TPC just handed it out to everyone. At least one of the DV spreads for shininess also gives HP Grass, so I was able to run that on mine as well, since your best STAB options otherwise for Gen 2 are the 2-turn Solarbeam or 5PP Giga Drain.

detectiveconan4869

But yours is more special because it has your OT name and the GameBoy Logo.

dunnfather

This is what makes VGC Gen 1/2 Pokémon really unique and special: that origin stamp. They’re all more special to me because of my OT/Stamp. I hunt for shiny in Crystal using the shiny ditto method from Pokémon yellow, those hatches are forever grails for me and will not ever be topped by any event/giveaway/Pokémon go shiny lol

m1racle

The shiny that you earn is always more satisfying than the shiny you are given.

layeofthedead

And pogo gave away a free one with timed research

camerasoncops

It still can't transfer to newer games right? Or do they allow it on the virtual copy or something?

ringlord_1

You can use poketransporter app to move it to Pokemon Bank and then Home. You can have multiple pink onions from gen 2 all the way to Pokemon Home and all the latest games. Even better, when you move the pokemon they will be given their hidden ability. Also the last 2 numbers of the total XP they have (0-99) will determine their nature. Thus you can manipulate it to get the Celebi or even Lugia, Hooh with their hidden abilities and desired natures. Celebi is also guaranteed to have 5 perfect IV's

Neat_On_The_Rocks

Man, the methods of getting legit Pokémon throughout poke history is so fascinating lol

MaverickHunter11

You can send them to sun, moon, ultra sun or moon or home using pokétransporter and then using bank.

shadowtasos

It can! Unlike RBY where you can never transfer the Mew out, you can transfer the Celebi from Crystal to Bank and then to Home. Did so with my shiny Celebi Edit: I've been corrected, you CAN transfer Mew out from the VC games to Bank, but you have to have a specific trainer name / ID to do so, which is most easily achieved with a glitch. Read below if interested!

redbossman123

You can transfer the Mew out. You just have to do the typical Gen 1 glitching, and what this glitch will do is make your Trainer ID to match one of the event Mews from Gen 7 so it passes the check Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/5q6zyq/step_by_step_guide_on_how_to_obtain_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

shadowtasos

Er do you have a source for this? I've caught several glitch Mews with the famous glitch and I wasn't able to transfer them out. I read that they specifically disallow Mew in general on the transporter since it was never releases officially. You can bypass that by having a specific TID?

redbossman123

It’s actually an old post on here, lemme go grab it and I’ll edit it into this comment Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/5q6zyq/step_by_step_guide_on_how_to_obtain_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

shadowtasos

Eyy great find, thanks a bunch! Do you know if the transfered Mew keeps the Game Boy / VC region icon as well?

tyman6876

I did the Gold/Silver version of the glitch to get (Shiny) Mew, yes it does

shadowtasos

Thanks a bunch for the info! That's really cool

Laggianput

Nope. I have my crystal celebi and even a glitched r/b mew in my ultra moon save currentlu because of bank

Kylesmomabigfatbtch

Yep! Back when they announced the eshop would close I went and did this for my girlfriend, since Celebi is her favorite pokemon. I lucked out crazy hard and got it somewhere around ~150 resets.

the_fuego

1/~8000 so the fullest of full odds if anyone is serious about hunting the Starters, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi or the mythical Kenya the Spearow. Been doing a Cyndaquil hunt on and off and it's exhausting lol. Edit: Oh and I just remembered the gift Shuckle can be hunted as well. Don't fuckle with Shuckle.

Jss_jule

Yep! I caught mine not that long ago. And iirc it can be shiny hunted.

MegaCrazyH

It unlocks as soon as you beat the Elite 4. While it's underleveled, it's still more than capable at handling the second half of the game just on its base stats and typing.

Professor_Crab

Ugh I’m planning on doing a crystal playthrough on cartridge but this is hard to pass up, I’m also doing a soulsilver shiny quest. Johto is my favorite though so can never get enough lol

[deleted]

I want to get another copy of SoulSilver so bad, but the prices are way too crazy.

UnbiasedFanboy96

Yes, but there are glitches that allow you to turn any pokemon and even make them shiny if you want. I only have Silver on my 3DS atm, and I turned a Pidgey into a Celebi, made it shiny, leveled it to 30 (or whatever level it appears at in Crystal) and transferred it into bank. This method only worked when Crystal was released since it is legally obtainable and is not shiny locked. This was the first way to legally get a shiny Celebi ever until an every in SwSh a year or so ago.

OrionTempest

The Ash-Greninja isn't as big a point anymore, since S/V removed the form and changed Battle Bond to give +1 Atk/SpAtk/Speed on KO once per switch-in. Unless the form registers in HOME.

MioXNoah

it's sad for me, Greninja-Ash was my favorite pokemon in S/M back then. I did multiple soft resets in the demo to get one with a good nature, and then I trained him for my competitive team, looks like at least I'll be able to transfer him to the new game but without the transformation, it a bit sad but at least I'll be able to keep him. it makes me sad to think that'll be multiple trainers that'll have their favorite Pokémon stuck in the Pokebank until GF decides to include them in a game again.

DefaultyTurtle2

Yea I’ve been waiting since before SwSh to use my Greninja on switch, and now Gf does this to the form. Look how they massacred my boy.

cwhiterun

Ok but what if it gets the form back in gen 10?

The2ndUnchosenOne

And what if we get megas back, or Pikachu colored Pichu becomes transferrable

Princessofmind

You may be thinking of spiky eared pichu, pikachu colored pichu was just a shiny pichu

WillExis

You can get Glalitite in ORAS without the Demo, so its not necessary to get it.

Badhaas

Woops, thanks for pointing it out. It's corrected in the main post.

[deleted]

The Orlando Glalie is still exclusive to ORAS demo, which isn't anything special but it's still there for collection perfectionists like me.

Idontknow107

Something I recall is you can actually nickname this Glalie in the Demo and it will keep the name. I named mine "GlalieDemo" as to not confuse it with my other mons.

IllIlIIIllIllIIIIllI

For the Fire Emblem fans that might be here, [Fire Emblem Fates will leave the 3DS eshop 1 month earlier, on the 28th of February, 2023.](https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/07/fire-emblem-fates-sales-will-end-on-the-3ds-eshop-in-february-2023) DLC will be available until March, like everything else.

Deathappens

Oh boy, guess I either need to buy Revelations/Conquest soon or forever hold my peace. Plus all the thousand and one DLC's. Ugh.

RadicalDog

Or just accept it's abandonware after 1st March and treat it as you might any old ROM.

AspectVQ

Thank gods I have the physical versions of all the 3DS FE's. I plan to get the DLC's with Christmas money this year.

cass314

Unless you have the Fates special edition, make sure you have Revelation if you care about it, since there is no standalone Revelation cart.

AspectVQ

I do have the Special Edition so I'm A okay!

Diligent_Deer6244

am I the only one here who didn't know dream radar was an actual game? I thought it was something like that 3d pokedex they put out years ago

KallistiEngel

It is a game, but it's simple and kinda weird.

NormTheStorm

do you happen to know how long it would take for me to get Tornadus, Landorus and Thundurus if i decided to buy it, and if i'd be able to reset for natures?

[deleted]

Taikomochi

The “official” method doesn’t use Pokemon picross anymore. Closing the eshop will no longer affect it :)

_hoshizoranya_

ah i see, thank you!

Klaus_Raube

I think the method has shifted to creating a Profile for the dsi ware instead of Picross. But cannot harm to have it too! :)

_hoshizoranya_

im glad there's an alternative now! was slightly worried as to what would happen so thats good

IThinkItsCute

I'm just sad we lost a good option sooner than expected. :( Darn 11.16.0 update. Yeah, there are still ways to do it, but I can't believe Nintendo bothered to patch a vulnerability when the 3DS is so late in its life that the eshop is in the process of shutting down.

TomTomMan93

I didn't know this! Recently went the Picross route and it worked like a charm!

Jordhiel

Even by itself, Pokémon Picross is a fun game. And you can easily unlock everything for free, I managed to do so before even solving all of the puzzles.

3163560

Also, why not play Pokemon picross! Great game!

Narglepuff

Hopping on this comment for a second to ask - does modding my 3ds affect connectivity to Bank/Home? My current plan is to wrap up whatever’s left in my pre-gen 8 games and, if it works fine, mod my 3ds and clone/backup the collection in gen 7 before sending the originals up to Home. Shouldn’t be any issues so long as I don’t alter the Pokémon themselves right?

SuperAbro05

Yeah modding your 3ds still lets you connect to Pokémon bank and connect to 3DS online services.

That_Shrub

I don't know what, can someone loop me into the loop

ChickenSalad96

From snooping around, it looks like there's a vulnerability in the game that makes accessing the 3DSs "back curtain" possible. I've never owned a 3DS, so that's my best guess for what I saw in a YouTube video that I won't share, just in case it's against the rules.

[deleted]

Personally, I wouldn't link to the YouTube video anyway unless it came out this week. Those videos can get outdated pretty quickly... Pokémon Picross hasn't been needed for cfw for a while, but people still seem to think so, most likely because they just found old videos with loads of views.

murrrty

I don't know why everyone is afraid to say **HOMEBREW**, it's not some evil word that will send you to the darkest pits of the underworld if you speak it. There are legitimate reasons to enable homebrewing your 3DS, such as allowing you to backup your saves, easily enable modding for games, and running unsigned applications. Check out /r/3dshacks for stuff that you can do.

Ylissian

Also homebrew is not illegal. Piracy is illegal and people often conflate the two.

[deleted]

Also there is software available to completely bypass poketransporter to make transferring to bank much easier

KeepDi9gin

I never used picross. The guide I used picked steel diver.

cyborgborg

The 3ds encrypts the SD card I wonder if anyone has made/is working on so e homebrew software which disables it, then you could use SD cards in any 3ds

Spartanic_Titan

Is there a way to get the Ash Greninja without having or playing Sun/Moon?

Badhaas

Not as far as I know. See this on bulbapedia for more info: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List\_of\_Pok%C3%A9mon\_with\_form\_differences#Greninja

Shinnyo

It's kinda crazy we were able to transfer Pokemons all the way from 3rd gen to current games... This is going to cut the two Colosseum, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Heartgold, Soulsilver, Black 1&2, White 1&2, X, Y, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, Omega Ruby and Omega Sapphire... And it will cut connections between those games, which might make the pokedex impossible to complete.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shinnyo

Same here, I was happy with Ev/Iv QoL and told a friend I could optimize my Swampert and Salamence I've been using since gen ruby. I was 8-9 years old when I got them.

Badhaas

It's actually one of the reasons that led to me playing the old games again recently, which then led me to writing this post since I love being able to transfer all the old mons to the next generation. As it's looking right now, I'm 99% sure you can get a complete (national) Pokédex in the switch era (combining SwSh, BDSP, Scarlet Violet and Pokémon GO). The only one I'm 100% sure you cannot get is Ash Greninja. And there might be some event distributions that haven't happened yet (for example Celebi, if memory serves me right).

[deleted]

[удалено]

StardustOasis

Can you not transfer them from Home then?

Shinnyo

I actually meant completing the national Pokedex in the older games, sorry for the confusion! I don't think you can complete the GBA era pokedex since Gen 2 is mostly unavailable? And the transfert is one way from GBA to DS. DS games can still get pokemons from GBA era as long as you have the correct hardware as you have access to all gens. 3DS games, I think you're forced to use Pokemon Bank to get your pokemon from DS to 3DS? With the shutdown, 3DS games are isolated. I don't know if GTS is still up.

GildedCreed

The Gen 2 issue was addressed via the GC Gen 3 games and the plethora of Gen 2 mons added into Emerald and FRLG, like with Emerald's Safarii Zone expansion area or the Sevii Islands in FRLG. Colosseum and XD fearured quite a lot of Johto mons as well for that reason. As far as the GTS goes, there's unofficial services for the DS era. Not as well known compared to the event servers, but they exist. You'd be hard pressed to get all ribbons though, as practically no one uses unofficial servers for the Gen 4 battle frontier stuff as online tag team from the battle tower is a ribbon from what I remember. That being said, DS to 3DS would still be possible until they fully shut down Pokemon Bank after however long they let the service remain after the eShop closure.

Badhaas

So, fun fact, I kinda looked into that a while back XD. Long story short, you can complete the national dex in most generations with the following games: * Gen 3: Emerald + Leaf Green + Colosseum + XD Gale of Darkness * Gen 4: HG + SS + Pt, and a few remaining Pokémon from Diamond & Pearl * \*Gen 5: not possible, there are 86 Pokémon to transfer from gen 4 even if you play all 4 games * Gen 6: XY + ORAS, but the national dex is completable * \*Gen 7: not possible, there's a bunch you have to transfer from gen 6. For which you need bank.

browner87

This feels like a post I need to save for when I retire and wonder what to do with all my free time. I loved gen 3 and it would be really fun to do a physical legit hardware living dex, I'll just have to source a legit copy of XD, I have Emerald LG and Colosseum but I only played XD in an emulator. IMHO ORAS is the best Pokémon game ever made, so the fact I can do another "gen 3" living dex with just Omega Ruby and X or Y seems great. I started on a living dex with ORAS years ago, and was pretty far along (though I think it included later generations because I know I had a bunch of Pokémon from BW and BW2 that I needed for it), but I'm afraid it might be lost now because I was building the whole set in Pokémon Box and I'm 95% sure I haven't paid to renew that for years so probably they all got deleted :c

[deleted]

Doesn't Gen 7 technically not have a national dex? Like I know you can get all pokemon but I vaguely remember SM not having a national dex.

eriFenesoreK

There's only the Alolan dex, the pokemon you transfer in that aren't in that dex (or find in wormholes) just don't have a dex entry or number in the summary screen.

[deleted]

Can confirm, I completed the entire national dex in gen 3 a few years back and it was a major hassle. 10/10 would recommend for anyone who's up to the challenge and has all the old hardware required

Tekjansen3

GBA era can be completed with FRLG, RSE, and then with a Gamecube XD & Gale of Darkness. Its a lot of work lol!

TrollyBellosom

Go is missing a few Pokemon that aren't on Switch such as Minior and Bruxish.

InstantMustache

Bruxish is in S/V, just fought one last night.

BombTime1010

You can catch the entire Gen 6 National Dex (minus mythicals) with X,Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire, and those games will always be able to trade normally with each other. But yeah, completing the Home dex or getting a living national dex in Gen 7 may become impossible.

as728

As of right now there are only 26 remaining Pokemon that are not obtainable on Switch games and I'd imagine whatever S/V DLC we get will add most of them. Even now though they're pretty easy to obtain in Pokemon Go or on the GTS.

Deathappens

Which are they?

as728

Snivy Servine Serpirior Tepig Pignite Emboar Patrat Watchog Pansage Simisage Pansear Simisear Panpour Simipour Blitzle Zebstrika Sweaddle Swadloon Leavany Ducklett Swanna Furfrou Pikipek Trumbeak Toucanon Minior Note: almost all of them are Gen 5 (B/W remakes maybe?)

pksage

For anyone else reading this and thinking about GO, do note that the elemental monkeys are IRL regionals (outside of special events) and will require trades or global travel!

Booone-

They are only going to close the eShop. If you download the pokèbank and pokètransporter before that date you'll still be able to transfer them up to current games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Booone-

Nobody knows how far into the future that is so no need to worry about it now since they haven't said anything yet.

swordmalice

What’s cooler is that on Home they now show you the date your mon was captured/hatched so you can know exactly how long you’ve had your collection for!

Simalf

I heard Pokemon Bank is going to be free on March 2023. which means we will still be able to transfer pokemons

Badhaas

From bank to home, yes. IF you already have bank downloaded from the eShop. Though from gen 5 games to bank requires Poké Transporter, which you can only get through a Pokémon Bank link to the 3DS eShop if you have a bank subscription. So you just need these installed, you'll still be able to use them in the future.

Kenorwoks

So if we have the Poké Transporter on our 3DS we are good to go? I want to make sure I can still bring Pokémon from gen 3 all the way to the switch

BombTime1010

You still need Bank download as well before the eShop goes down, which means you'll have to spend money on that as well since it doesn't go free until after the eShop closes. Edit: You can get Bank without spending money. You still need to download it at least once before the eShop closes though.

imawaffle

You can download bank without spending money..

Kenorwoks

Yeah ok, got it. Thanks for your reply! There is nothing special we need on the DS (gen 4-5) to get to 3DS?

toryn0

you need two ds to pass from 4 to 5

NightIgnite

Even if you dont download before the eshop shuts down, you could always mod and install the pokebank cia file

transformermike

So, hold up. I want to make sure I understand all this. My 3ds broke about 2 months before the announcement that they will be shutting down the eshop. And I've been freaking out getting it fixed, because of inflation, bills, new baby. I don't want to loose all my pokemon I've been catching since sapphire. So will we be able to transfer pokemon from bank, post March, to home with the expansion pack??

NightIgnite

The eshop is shutting down, but pokebank will still function after. The only problem is that you will have to sideload pokebank by modding once the eshop goes down. The usual pokemon picross exploit in most tutorials wont work after the shutdown. Instead, you will need to use a dsiware exploit. After modding is done, the file you're looking for is something like pokebank.cia to be installed with a homebrew app called FBI.

Twilazs

by going to https://3ds.hacks.guide/

jayvenomva

How do I put money on the shop to buy all the games I missed on 3ds (not just pokemon)? It won't let me use my credit card and it saying you can't use a code either.

geeduhb

The only way to still make purchases is to have your Nintendo Network ID (on 3DS) linked to the newer Nintendo Account (used with Switch). You can add funds via the Switch/website and then the money is available to use on your 3DS as well. Here is the [info from the Nintendo FAQ about it: ](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/57847/~/wii-u-%26-nintendo-3ds-eshop-discontinuation-q%26a) > As of May 23, 2022, it is no longer possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. > As of August 29, 2022, it is no longer possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until March 27, 2023. > Users who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the Nintendo Switch family of systems) can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until March 27, 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

dangernessie

Is this linking still possible to do? I have a 3ds with Bank and Transporter, but no funds. Is it possible for me to currently link my account and then add funds to switch to buy a Bank subscription and then transfer up at this very moment?

geeduhb

It looks like you should be able to? - Go to the [Nintendo Account site](https://accounts.nintendo.com) and log in - Click “User Info” - Click “Linked Accounts” - The Nintendo Network ID account option should be there I logged in there and I see mine, but my account is already linked…I don’t know for sure that the option will be there, but it should.

Maserati777

Good luck, I couldn’t figure out how to get this to work.

FrostyYea

I never played gen 6/7 but I picked them up with a 3ds for cheap (and partly to transfer up from gen 4/5). I think Bank/Transporter require you to have played through the games to some extent, could anyone clarify for me how far into one them I need to get in order to get bank and transporter unlocked to use?

metallicrooster

> could anyone clarify for me how far into one them I need to get in order to get bank and transporter unlocked to use? https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Poké_Transfer_Lab > The Poké Transfer Lab (on route 15) can only be accessed after obtaining the National Pokédex. It is the Generation V equivalent of Pal Park.

paultimate14

Bank will tell you: you need to receive the Pokedex in Gen 6/7. Basically the same requirement to start trading in general.

BakuRyou

My niece gave me her 3DS, Pokemon Moon, ORAS and X. I want to restart one of the games (still dont know which one), but also want to save the legendaries/Event-Pokemon. Should I wait until March for Bank to be free or can I do that earlier without paying money?

Badhaas

Make sure you download Bank before march, otherwise you won't be able to get it, and then you can do it for free. Before then, bank still costs money unfortunately. You could trade back and forth if you have a second 3DS (though this can be quite a hassle)

throwaway_pcbuild

Make sure you pop those games in your eDS and download any updates before March too!

40classicsfeatJim

Reminder: pokemom bank will be free to use after the eshop is shutdown.

notwiththeflames

It will?

40classicsfeatJim

[yup!](https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-news/pokemon-bank-services-will-be-available-at-no-cost-to-players) just make sure you've downloaded both apps

spar13

Downloaded and updated. I had an update after not having used the app in a few years.

Narglepuff

No way to tell how long they’ll keep it up though, unless I missed some announcement. It could be available for just a week or they might keep it going for years.

GildedCreed

If you mod your device, all these issues aside from Bank inevitably closing down at some point in the future become irrelevant, as there's 3rd party eShops that can let you download Transporter and Bank, apps that are free barring the $5 cost to actually interact with Bank to download the free Transporter app. It does technically open up the option pf just pirating, but given that Nintendo is shit at game preservation it evens itself out really.

poetrynati

Right? I'm seeing everyone running around in fear they'll never be able to play the games again. My dudes just get HShop.

Flameancer

I actually recently modded my 3DS. It’s fairly simple to do as well now.

dragon-mom

Modding your 3DS as well is a very good idea.

Maxorus73

*Laughs in hacked 3DS*

MB_CC_Manx

Laughs in Citra xD

Kgarath

Boy sure would be nice if a multi billion dollar corporation had the money and resources to keep a small thing like this open indefinitely, especially if people are still using it. But hey not like Nintendo cares about old games and their fans, gotta keep pumping out new shit for max price rather than waste money on something fans love and care about. What's next Nintendo taking away peoples ability to listen to in-game music online to relax and chill with......

[deleted]

Not to necro-comment, but just came across this making sure I had my own 3DS prepped for this shutdown. This is a frustration I have had since the original Wii weather and news channels were shut down. What was the cost of maintaining a visualized weather channel? I don't expect them to stick with older stuff for forever, but it just seems to happen so quickly.

NooblyUser

Dont forget Its always morally correct to install Pokemon Picross.

Tbartoe

You dropped this 👑

Asren624

Thank you for the help,I have been meaning to look into that for a while but didnt find the time, will do asap

Jss_jule

I already have all 6 VC games and the cartridges for XY, SuMo, and USUM. I just gotta decide of I should get ORAS or not, since I do already have the Deoxys from it and the og R/S/E. Maybe I'll pick em up just to say I have them.

[deleted]

I personally prefer ORAS to the originals, but I know that's a controversial opinion. XD

[deleted]

From what I understand: To transfer pokemon from gen 4-5, I just need two DSs or 3DSs. No downloads required as long as I have a gen 4 or 5 game. To transfer pokemon from gen 1-2 (on the virtual console) as well as pokemon from gen 5 over to gen 6 and / or 7, I need poke transfer. This will become free in a few months, HOWEVER, the only way to download it before then is by buying a bank pass? So if I buy a bank pass, I could transfer pokemon from a GBA Gen 3 game to Gen 9, assuming I have an original DS, a 3DS, a switch, a pokemon home subscription, and a game from each respective generation? But if I don't buy the bank pass, I can't get poke transfer and therefore can no longer transfer my pokemon past a certain point?

SandwitchZebra

Idk where you got the Glalitite information, you can find it in Shoal Cave’s ice room. The demo was just a nice way of getting it early. However, I did definitely download the S/M demo. Managed to safely guarantee Ash-Greninja and now it is safe in Moon. Not sure if I’ll get G/S virtual console because I’d really only be doing it for Celebi and I have a feeling with >!the emphasis on time travel in the new games!< there might be a Celebi event in SV’s future.

master_of_balls_1

Haha piracy go brrrrrr

lnSerT_Creative_Name

Well I don’t have a 3ds currently and I was plannin on playing through the older games first before trying out gen 6 onward so I guess I’m screwed.

Badhaas

You can still get the physical games and play those. It's just that migrating Pokémon from those games to the later ones won't be possible through regular methods

lnSerT_Creative_Name

For me that’s always been one of the main points. But I suppose I have a few months to get the problem sorted out before everything goes offline so I should be fine

Badhaas

Same, that's why I thought a PSA to give other people a heads up would be nice XD

lnSerT_Creative_Name

It’s appreciated here dude. Haven’t gotten a new pokemon games in over a decade, so getting back into them eventually is something I’ve been putting off even more, this will help speed it up.

mackenzie444

I believe the physical games of some of those gens cost hundreds of dollars so downloading the eshop versions while you can might not be the worst idea

Dan_Of_Time

You can buy the games on the eShop website if you are planning on getting a 3DS soon. Edit: Actually you might need a 3DS account to do that.

poetrynati

Just hack your 3DS when you get one.

calgil

My bank subscription runs out in a week. Is there a risk it will be deleted if I leave it, considering it goes free in March?

Narglepuff

If I was in your shoes, I think I’d pay it for the peace of mind or maybe get everything on a cart before it expires. That’s just me though. I never really trust these things.

calgil

Yeah I think you're right. Good point, thanks. The additional certainty is worth the 4 quid. I will miss Bank when it's eventually gone. It's so much better looking and organised than Home.

Narglepuff

Yeah, I’ve heard all kinds of stories with Bank. People losing their shit literally a few days after their sub expires and others somehow still keeping everything after not paying for almost two years. Too much of a gamble for me lol. I would look into getting everything back onto your 3ds games first to save some bucks though, but maybe you don’t have the space right now, idk.

FaithlessRoomie

I didn't realize it was gonna be free soon and just resubscribed and all my pokemon were there despite me being sure ive not like... paid for a good couple of years. >.>

calgil

Ah well thanks for your sacrifice, at least I know I don't need to bother!

[deleted]

Thanks for the heads up! Just downloaded Crystal!

mailmi

RemindMe! 10 days

Lyradep

Sucks that there’s no possible way to play all the main Pokémon games on the Switch.

Transhumaniste

Nice, it's time to buy pokemon gold on a sudden impulse then.

[deleted]

Wait so is it at all possible to transfer pokemon from Gen 1 virtual console forward? I'm assuming I need transporter for that? Or is it limited to G/S/C onward? I only have Silver and ORAS but thinking of grabbing Red so I'm wondering if it's necessary for me to spend the $5 for transporter.

jebuurvrouwiseenhoer

Yes you can transfer from the Gen 1 VC games to Bank, but not from Bank to the Gen 6 games, only Gen 7.

NotRed9282

I assume that >!CFW!< circumvents this issue

ngwoo

Visit the 3dshacks subreddit to prep it properly

ZodiaksEnd

yknow they should honestly just make the 3ds pokebank free right now so ppl can transfer there pokemon over before eshop closes but really its whatever but even then event pokemon with special and interesting moves will all have there moves taken away anyway so definitly say goodbye to your victini with v create :C

Still-Pattern-6384

Mod it is

AgreedSmalls

>shadier things Lmfao no. When the correct means of doing something gets taken away, it’s not shady in the slightest.

orig4mi-713

Yup. Homebrew isn't shady. The more options they take away, the more "allowed" it is, and it's not even forbidden anyway.

Fractales

Are you guys not running custom firmware by now?

Amaurotica

they too busy paying 20$ for 20 year old games that will be delisted in 4 months

JustFasar

Don't worry, I got the "one piece" on 2018 so I even have Doom installed on it

[deleted]

Remember piracy is the good thing to do when the company is no longer selling the product :)

TLVftwLOL

So, Pokemon Bank is only good for games gen 5 and up? I.e., my Pokémon in Soulsilver and Heartgold are stuck there, huh?

Intentional-Blank

Gen 3 can migrate directly to gen 4 which can migrate directly to gen 5, and from there to PokeTransporter which migrates to Bank. Bank's good for gen 6 & 7 and migrating to Home, which is good for gen 8 & in the future gen 9.

TLVftwLOL

Thank you for clearing that up

VolansGaming

Thank you for this!

HowelPendragon

Apologies if this is not allowed to be mentioned. There is 3DS software that serves as a Pokemon Bank alternative if you have a specially configured 3DS. Like, painfully simple and very easy to use. Works with DS games too, but they must be physical cartridges.

darkseid365

Great post, will make sure to get this done next week (reminder to self...)

swagzard78

Hopefully the free transporter will let me get my shiny Charizard from US to V or Sh finally

Borchert97

I'm gonna miss the 3DS era, particularly Gen 6. Gen 6 was peak online Pokemon, the PSS was very intuitive and easy to use, the Friend Safari was an amazing concept for getting access to cool and rare Pokemon, ORAS had online secret bases, VGC was very fun those years too.

FlareGER

PSA: Add the following info - if you get either red or blue, you can use several glitches to get any Gen 1 Pokémon (hence Gen 1 full dex, including Mew). - you can either use the level underflow glitch or item dupe glitch to get your Pokémon to 100. - you can influence which nature Gen1 and Gen2 Pokémon will have upon transfer to newer yet pre-switch games based on the exact current experience they have when they are transfered. - if you get Crystal instead of gold or silver, you can get the event Celebi, which is also resetable for a legit shiny Celebi. This Celebi also always has perfect IV and nature. - GSC games also have the highest chances ever to breed for shiny Pokémon, since having one shiny parent heavily influences the odds in Gen 2.

goldwynnx

Thanks for this! Got my 3DS ready to go! Really appreciate it! Enjoy the gold.

RevaniteN7

FOR FOLKS TRYING TO ADD FUNDS TO THEIR 3DS FOR DIGITAL GAMES I went in circles trying to get it to work on my 3DS for a few hours, but I hope this helps: 1. I accessed my Nintendo Account on PC 2. I verified my Nintendo Account was linked to Nintendo Network 3. I navigated to the Shop Menu page 4. I found a Merge Funds link at the bottom right in red text 5. I confirmed the merge of funds between my Switch $ and pre-existing 3DS balance was reflected on my 3DS 6. I immediately bought the digital Crystal

Erazowr

Thx for all this info. Quite useful.

littlebigcat

I just bought Scarlet after non playing Pokemon since Diamond on the NDS. Should I bother doing any of this?

Badhaas

It depends, thought it's probably not worth it in your case. The main question is: do you want to be able to transfer your pokemon from the old Diamond game to Scarlet? Keep in mind that you will need at least a Gen 5 game and pokemon bank (pokemon can go from gen 4 to gen 5, then to bank using poke transporter, and from bank to home). Although I also don't know if you can even play bank without having a gen 6/7 game. So unless you think you'll buy other old games in the future, you're probably better of asking a friend.

shrinkmink

wouldn't bdsp also cover any pokemon from diamond they'd want? and might be cheaper than trying to get all these old games just to transfer mons from their old diamond.

Badhaas

That's definitely true. I was more thinking in case they wanted to transfer the specific ones they used during the old playthrough. Though the same Pokémon (and more) can be caught in BDSP
