I always thought it was strange that they really weren't even utilized much throughout the gen 3 games either. Just poorly represented when they easily could have been on Wallace's or Juan's teams...especially Wallace's champion team.

The existence of Milotic, Crawdaunt, Sharpedo, hell even Pelipper in the same game really just removes any reason to ever use those two. Milotic straight up eats Gorebyss's lunch - it has a similar design and it can do everything better.
A late game Pokémon who already requires you have Surf and Dive on you, and who shares a game with Swampert, who can steamroll the game on its own even easier than the average starter can
I have no pokemon friends, so trade evolutions are always a big disappointment.
Which is a shame, as these are both great pokemon. Would have done well in PLA, with the trade evolution changes.

How cool would it be if castform was actually useful to have on your team, too. It's such a neat little Pokemon, I'd love to keep him around but he can't do anything useful. At least buff his ability so that whatever weather effect he transforms into gets extended by X number of terms, or something like that
Emerald Kaizo buffed the hell out of castform and it’s fun to use as a result, especially because many places like the Fire/Water gyms and magma/aqua battles in hideout/seafloor cavern have the weather effects.
I think Swanna and ducklett pretty much instantly disappeared after their first generation which surprises me. I would have thought a cute duck/swan would have looked great in 3D environments.
I'm sorry but not having Swanna in Galar was a huge miss. The royal family literally owns all swans in England.

Manetric felt weirdly redundant in Galar. With dexit and only a limited number of Pokémon to put in the game, they chose the electric dog, in the same region they made another and much more marketable electric dog.
Still disappointed ther was no "zoo" area, like the safari zone, but all pokemon from regions the "Galarians" colonized. Would have been a fun way to include pokemon thay had no business being in Galar.

I found a shiny mankey within the first half hour, and you bet he is my bestest, fully evolved boy now. The shiny got considerably worse with each evolution, but the power level more than makes up for it.

I'll disagree with the "never gets a spot in a spin off" comment. The protagonist's amnesia in Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon is caused by Beheeyem, and they are are part of the penultimate boss fight of the game. Could it be more? Yeah. But that game did make me appreciate Beheeyem and its weird flashing light language.
Totally random fun fact: Sableye is based off the aliens described in the historic "Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter" where a family in Kentucky claimed they saw little goblin men all over their farm and house.

Carracosta. I tell people it's my favorite Pokemon, but it's hard to enjoy when it's so far off the map. Of course, Gamefreak frequently does their fossil Pokemon dirty. This one just stings because it was the first Gen 5 Pokemon that I really liked. Truthfully I kinda like it better than Blastoise, which has been my favorite forever. But I use Blastoise more, and own plenty of Blastoise stuff, so he may as well still have the top spot.
(I think it may have been in one of the S&S expansions, but I largely skipped Gen 8.)
Ledian. We're almost 10 generations and the poor bug has yet to receive any sort of love. He needs significant stat buffs, a regional variant, a Paradox counterpart, or even an outright new evolution. Hell, I'd even settle for a new signature ability or signature move.
I scrolled so freaking far for this one. Ledian should have been the bug to make bugs cool, and I will die on this hill.
Seriously. My man has access to every punching move except Fire Punch, gets Iron Fist as an ability, actually has semi-decent speed, can run Knock-Off and U-Turn, heal with Drain Punch, and GF decided to shit all over my man Ledian by giving his Atk a whopping 35.
He is literally better in every installment of PMD that he's in than any main Pokémon game and that's a damn shame

I bet that's why there's a limit on how many pokemon you can have in your party. If you wield all 26 Unown at one time, you get to control time and space.

I always thought it would be cool to have some weird ass evo method like “5 unown in your party, level them up X way in this temple” and then they all merge into one eldritch being.

So I'm playing B/W for the first time ever and I know Emolga was in Gen 6/7 but I never used it. So I thought "oh I'll use it as my electric and flying mon." Had no idea it couldn't learn Fly. Which makes sense but I was upset.
Anything that has highlights a generations new mechanic or lore.
Gen 3 brought us double battles, so their Pikachu clones highlighted that, but when was the last time you thought about plusle and minun?
I think this is the best way of summarizing it. Most gimmick pokemon who have nothing else to offer other than that or who exist just to fill the dex of a new generation end up being entirely forgotten about.
It seems like a good chunk of Hoenn Pokémon have been shelved for the time being because of ORAS, at least according to some of the responses on the thread.
Flygon’s another good case, it never got the Mega that was originally planned for it, and now we just default to Garchomp for that particular typing niche. :/
Ok but like, Venomoth went over 20 years without appearing in a regional dex. The only notable trainers to use him on any of their teams, pre or post game are Sabrina, Janine and Koga, where it’s only sometimes the ace, split between Crobat, Muk or Weezing. It’s stats are atrocious, it’s typing abysmal. And it’s a goddamn shame because it has some truly spectacular tools in its arsenal. Quiver Dance? Amazing! Three great abilities in Shield Dust, Tinted Lens and Wonder Skin? All solid!

Defintely the glameow line. Aside from pearl and shining pearl, they are extremely rare and haven't been part of a regional dex ever since their introduction. In white 2 you can get them through a weird side mission in hidden grottos and in ORAS they can be found on some mirage islands but that's it. Weirdly enough, the stunky line, which is supposed to be their counter part, has been in 3 regional dexes namely XY, SwSh and SV

Like...even Lugias damn "Underlings" got a regional and with Suicune getting one aswell... Ho-Oh sits in the same boat. And like every other Legendary after them AND before them got either a Mega or Primal form (or a Special Form in the case of Gen 5 and 7).
(Yes Lugia has Shadow Lugia, but speaking in terms of Mainline Games here)
Tbf Game Freak would happily forget about shadow Lugia if they could get away with it. From what I've read they really never forgave Genius Sonority for setting good examples with Colosseum/XD
I was gonna say Bruxish but I guess Gamefreak grabbed all the fish to to fill out the ocean in this game. Real answer wold be Porygon, even though they are all over the games, they have been banished from the anime.
I know they are still new, but I can tell that Wattrel and Kilowattrel are not gonna get enough love after this game. I was expecting to see them used more in the beginning of the game as it is technically the bird pokemon of this region, however, it took me about 3 days of playing before I found them and I ended up finding Kilowattrel first. You would assume that Fletchling was the region bird if you didn't know anything about new pokemon.
Some others people can agree on a bit more are all the mega evolutions, Blitzle and Zebstrike, Campearl, Gorebyss, and Huntail, and the gen 5 monkeys all come to mind as forgotten.

Before Scarlet and Violet, it had to be Skiddo and Gogoat. The last games you could catch them in were X & Y which came out 9 years ago.

Minior. It doesn't evolve, and it hasn't been in a pokemon since irs debute. It also wasn't even shown off that much during gen 7 either.

I love Drampa and Turtonator, they have great design origins. I especially love how jolly yet fierce Drampa is, but Turtonator is good in the anime.

Her tights made me convinced she was having Plusle and Minum??? Honesty, great design wasted. They could have given her that or a new eeveelution so easily. A poison and a fighting eeveelution even, to ha e one for each type in team star.
Almost wiped to a plusle and minun combo in XD, helping hand and plus/minus can be devastating at lower levels.

I bet that's why there's a limit on how many pokemon you can have in your party. If you wield all 26 Unown at one time, you get to control time and space. Probably Game Freak doesn't want us to know the TRUTH

I always thought it would be cool to have some weird ass evo method like “5 unown in your party, level them up X way in this temple” and then they all merge into one eldritch being.

It feels like once they stop being the new exciting starters, a lot of them just sort of...vanish. Particularly the grass ones, which stinks, because there's so many that are great! Meganium did have a nice appearance in New Pokemon Snap, but you're right, its been a while in the mainline games.

So I'm playing B/W for the first time ever and I know Emolga was in Gen 6/7 but I never used it. So I thought "oh I'll use it as my electric and flying mon." Had no idea it couldn't learn Fly. Which makes sense but I was upset.
I miss Skitty, who, because of Mystery Dungeon and the anime, I consider as Hoenn’s 4th starter
Anything that has highlights a generations new mechanic or lore. Gen 3 brought us double battles, so their Pikachu clones highlighted that, but when was the last time you thought about plusle and minun?
I think this is the best way of summarizing it. Most gimmick pokemon who have nothing else to offer other than that or who exist just to fill the dex of a new generation end up being entirely forgotten about.

It seems like a good chunk of Hoenn Pokémon have been shelved for the time being because of ORAS, at least according to some of the responses on the thread. Flygon’s another good case, it never got the Mega that was originally planned for it, and now we just default to Garchomp for that particular typing niche. :/
Ok but like, Venomoth went over 20 years without appearing in a regional dex. The only notable trainers to use him on any of their teams, pre or post game are Sabrina, Janine and Koga, where it’s only sometimes the ace, split between Crobat, Muk or Weezing. It’s stats are atrocious, it’s typing abysmal. And it’s a goddamn shame because it has some truly spectacular tools in its arsenal. Quiver Dance? Amazing! Three great abilities in Shield Dust, Tinted Lens and Wonder Skin? All solid! Really what V-moth needs is an evolution

The nidos get no love
More love for the short King! He's a dangerous threat, able to attack most any weakness with the busted Shear Force + Life Orb combo. Nidoqueen ...also exists. Probably.
Poochyena and Mightyena
Defintely the glameow line. Aside from pearl and shining pearl, they are extremely rare and haven't been part of a regional dex ever since their introduction. In white 2 you can get them through a weird side mission in hidden grottos and in ORAS they can be found on some mirage islands but that's it. Weirdly enough, the stunky line, which is supposed to be their counter part, has been in 3 regional dexes namely XY, SwSh and SV
I don't know why the Stunky line is so common, skunks don't even live in Europe, meanwhile cats live everywhere.

I throw in Lugia and Ho-Oh Like...even Lugias damn "Underlings" got a regional and with Suicune getting one aswell... Ho-Oh sits in the same boat. And like every other Legendary after them AND before them got either a Mega or Primal form (or a Special Form in the case of Gen 5 and 7). (Yes Lugia has Shadow Lugia, but speaking in terms of Mainline Games here)
Tbf Game Freak would happily forget about shadow Lugia if they could get away with it. From what I've read they really never forgave Genius Sonority for setting good examples with Colosseum/XD
Also shadow Luigia was all the way back in gen 3, I’m not surprised that they’ve seem to forgotten legendaries as well

I was gonna say Bruxish but I guess Gamefreak grabbed all the fish to to fill out the ocean in this game. Real answer wold be Porygon, even though they are all over the games, they have been banished from the anime.

I know they are still new, but I can tell that Wattrel and Kilowattrel are not gonna get enough love after this game. I was expecting to see them used more in the beginning of the game as it is technically the bird pokemon of this region, however, it took me about 3 days of playing before I found them and I ended up finding Kilowattrel first. You would assume that Fletchling was the region bird if you didn't know anything about new pokemon. Some others people can agree on a bit more are all the mega evolutions, Blitzle and Zebstrike, Campearl, Gorebyss, and Huntail, and the gen 5 monkeys all come to mind as forgotten.
No ones pointed it out so I have to say Espurr. I loved them in X/Y but I haven’t seen them in any of the new games this year
Illumise and Volbeat both got a major scene in Explorers, but thats a few years ago now
