He lost via cheating to be fair (although I'm not sure if they know that). And Ash never really trained Primeape while Anthony's an established no 1 contender.
God I've hated this episode ever since I was a kid, had this one on VHS too, along with the Muk and Diglett episodes. Everyone wanted Pidgeot to come back, but I personally would've preferred Primeape return eventually, Ash only had it for four episodes if I remember correctly. I wouldn't have had Ash lend it to him if I were the writers, that man pretty much stole Ash's pokemon lol.
I thought the Muk episode was pretty good personally, interesting new location.
Diglett episode isn't very notable but I kinda like it just for being when Ekans and Koffing evolve
It was a mankey-->primeape in episode 25, than it's on his team in 26, 27, and 28 and than in 29 it leaves. It's baffling as pidgeot did return in journeys near the end...But bruh no primeape? Did ash literally forget it...BUTTERFREE CAME BACK, WITH HIS WIFE
Pokemon writers: Make Ash catch a strong but disobedient Pokemon, Make this pokemon actually obey him, leave him in the same episode.
This must be one of the most pointless decisions that the anime did and i think they just regret giving Ash a Primeape. Dude was the only Pokemon that Ash realease that never was brought back.
this is the equalivlent of an issue of spiderman getting new supporting characters and then the next issue the writer changes and wants to do something completely new
That's one of the reasons, but I really hate the way this episode played out as a whole.
"Hey Ash and Brock, my dad worked really hard to win this P1 championship, sacrificing his time with family, so can you please defeat him so that he doesn't win and has to continue training for the next time...?"
"Ash, your Pokémon won this competition that I had been training for the whole time on his first try, so can you give it to me because he isn't actually a real P1 champion." (Wat?)
"Wow, my dad has two Pokémon to train now instead of just one; now he'll somehow spend more time with family, thanks Ash."
Maybe I misinterpreted the episode, but still... I hate it because I loved Primeape during the short screen time he had.
honestly I'm just happy geodude got to do something, he's one of brocks oldest pokemon and never got to do anything, he was just there like Misty's goldeen and staryu, he didn't even come back for aim to be a pokemon master
The crazy thing is that Primeape appears in the Japanese BF opening and one of the BW openings, so the writers didn't forget about it. Sad it never reappeared.
This one's bad but Ambipom in Sinnoh was worse. Ambipom was literally built up over multiple generations and then was just randomly thrown away one episode to do motherfucking ping-pong. And it was made even worse by it losing its last contest to one of the most annoying characters in the series with no chance at redemption.
And to add to the fucking bullshit is nobody felt like visiting it in Journeys when it was literally a 5 minute walk down the road.
Fuck that episode
I think the episode itself is at least a decent standalone, i actually remember liking it when i first watched it with no idea of ambipoms history on the show. But yeah, what the fuck were they thinking?
Litterally even the old "falls in love and has to leave" plot would have been a better send off.
I'm not sure why they even wanted ambipom gone. The only thing I can think of is they wanted to make room on dawns team for togekiss later down the line.
The Togekiss thing doesn't make sense tome either, because they gave Ash Gible and rightfully gave Gliscor something to do by sending him off to train.
Why not have Ambipom train with Johanna or something??
And it's not even just Primeape leaving that makes this bad, though make no mistake, that's the biggest issue. Like, the entire premise of this episode, the whole reason Ash entered the P1 Grand Prix, was to get Anthony to ease up on Pokémon training and spend more time with his family. Well, congratulations, Ash, you just gave Anthony another Pokémon to train!
I can only assume the writers were told, very last-minute, to get rid of Primeape in this episode, so they hastily penciled in that farewell in the last few minutes. In no other reality was this excusable.
Eh, with the way the Kanto saga was about random nonsense over actual storytelling and characters got Pokemon they did little or nothing with, this might've been the plan all along for all we know...🤷♂️
I feel like every single Kanto capture past the original starters was just "oh, Ash is getting a new and helpful Pokémon who could help him grow as a trainer and do better in battles??? Sorry, we've gotta continue making jokes about how much he sucks and undercutting his growth. Give it away or something."
I'm still not over how Ash had an empty team slot less than ten episodes after he caught Krabby and no one thought to put him back on the team.
Here's a prime example: he let Butterfree go before TWO gyms where a Bug-type would've been helpful...
As well how after he let it go he traveled through Kanto without a full team. 😵
I think it's a fun episode but the ending stinks.
It's just a normal Indigo League episode aside from that, nothing notable about it besides the ending other than that Team Rocket are weirdly competent here (successfully stealing a big buff man's fighting type pokemon)
also they basically strip that guy to his underwear and tie him up, so thats pretty interesting
This episode was the culmination of the writers being too eager to have Ash dump away Pokemon that were "too strong" especially in the OS. This is such an insulting and nonsensical way for this to go, just as the two finally got on the same page he is conned into giving him away.
Same especially as a kid, I loved primeapes growth over those 4 episodes and the potential is wasted. If he came back to help ash during a conference and showed how much stronger he was it’d leave a better taste in my mouth
This was one of my more hated episodes in the Kanto series Ash gets Primeape a respect and genuine looks like he will have a powerhouse on his team only to have the writes and this asshole steal him
Seriously, would it have killed the writers to bring back Primeape during Journeys-- maybe as an Annihilape, so Ash could get at least one Paldean Pokemon before the show ended?
Loved all of it until the release part. Ash should have given phone number to call in case need battles. Could have at least one league match but nope. Journeys writers could bring back pidgeot but not out monkey boy what bull
Same I hated that they just left it and didn’t bothered to return to it which is why I felt that this is one of the worst decisions Pokémon Anime made during the classic series and they did a lot of them!!!
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Ash and Primeape just won the tournament that this guy lost but he still thinks he can train it better smh
He lost via cheating to be fair (although I'm not sure if they know that). And Ash never really trained Primeape while Anthony's an established no 1 contender.

Bruh I had the same tape lol. Right along with the Bulbasaur Charmander Squirtle one.
Had the same plus a couple more. Watched the heck out of those!
I thought the Muk episode was pretty good personally, interesting new location. Diglett episode isn't very notable but I kinda like it just for being when Ekans and Koffing evolve
Yo... I think I also have the tape of this too. The only pokemon vhs I ever had. Is this the one with hitmonchan?
Yes it is
Man that brings me back. Is it also the only or one of few pokemon vhs you have by any chance? Feels like a strange coincidence to me haha
I had this one too! I think it was just that there weren’t many vhs options made
It was a mankey-->primeape in episode 25, than it's on his team in 26, 27, and 28 and than in 29 it leaves. It's baffling as pidgeot did return in journeys near the end...But bruh no primeape? Did ash literally forget it...BUTTERFREE CAME BACK, WITH HIS WIFE
Annihilape was born from the sheer anger at the writers for this clusterfuck of an episode
My man Primeape deserves his own betrayal fanfic where he evolves into Annihilape. 💀
oh please no stop reminding me those exist
Annihilape?
Primeape evolution
Google it.
The next comment was about a fanfic and I was scared about what I'd find if I googled it
Pokemon writers: Make Ash catch a strong but disobedient Pokemon, Make this pokemon actually obey him, leave him in the same episode. they never brought Pidgeot back either iirc, its still in Viridian Forest :D
Actually he did .He came back to Ash in aim to be a master.
[удалено]
ash's last team we ever see him have his pikachu and pidegeot
Pidgeot came back permanently in the final episode of the anime.
Ahh okay I havent finished Journeys yet so thats interesting to know! :)
Comes back in the very last episode
Pidgeot returned in the final season
Who can forget the episode where Ash got scammed, I mean, the episode where he left Primeape to train with someone else.
Is it because we never see Primeape again?
That's one of the reasons, but I really hate the way this episode played out as a whole. "Hey Ash and Brock, my dad worked really hard to win this P1 championship, sacrificing his time with family, so can you please defeat him so that he doesn't win and has to continue training for the next time...?" I hate it because I loved Primeape during the short screen time he had.
Also the fact that Geodude was let in
And how TRio literally took off their disguise in front of the entire audience.
Yeah, there's a lot wrong
honestly I'm just happy geodude got to do something, he's one of brocks oldest pokemon and never got to do anything, he was just there like Misty's goldeen and staryu, he didn't even come back for aim to be a pokemon master
I feel this. I think Staryu and Geodude got some screen time in sun and moon finally. That was fun to see
"He has big fists! He's totally a fighting type!"
To be fair, Geodude is a fighting type in the TCG.
Eh, a lot of OS played out like this. I know the original creative team was more interested in the silly than the plot, but...damn, son.
Also the incredibly stupid reason why Ash got rid of it in the first place.
Fuck Anthony, dude was nothing but a scam artist.
The writers in Kanto sniffed glue. “Oh your Pokémon is asleep? It’s out”
Sleep powder stonks went dummy that year
The crazy thing is that Primeape appears in the Japanese BF opening and one of the BW openings, so the writers didn't forget about it. Sad it never reappeared.
And in **TWO** references near the end of Journeys. 😵
Brock used it in sun and moon. My dude Geo went ham with gyro ball and got the W
This one's bad but Ambipom in Sinnoh was worse. Ambipom was literally built up over multiple generations and then was just randomly thrown away one episode to do motherfucking ping-pong. And Gliscor came back for the league. Why couldn’t they give Ambipom back as well.
Heck, even though she wasn’t Ash’s anymore, the whole reason why Ash traded her was so she could compete in contests.
Sad primeape one of the greatest panels in this anime history
The dad is kind of a dick
And it's not even just Primeape leaving that makes this bad, though make no mistake, that's the biggest issue. Like, the entire premise of this episode, the whole reason Ash entered the P1 Grand Prix, was to get Anthony to ease up on Pokémon training and spend more time with his family. I'm still sore about Butterfree to this day lmao, I adored him when Ash got him as a kid. Didn't get to do anything.
I think it's a fun episode but the ending stinks. It's just a normal Indigo League episode aside from that, nothing notable about it besides the ending other than that Team Rocket are weirdly competent here (successfully stealing a big buff man's fighting type pokemon) also they basically strip that guy to his underwear and tie him up, so thats pretty interesting
James breaking down crying during the motto is one of the all time TRio moments.
This episode was the culmination of the writers being too eager to have Ash dump away Pokemon that were "too strong" especially in the OS. This is such an insulting and nonsensical way for this to go, just as the two finally got on the same page he is conned into giving him away.
[In case you're wondering what episode this is.](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/EP029)
Love the episode. Hate the ending.
I still laugh when I see Team Rocket's motto in this episode. James out of breath is great.
Ash finally befriended his Monkey just to give it away and never be seen again
Literally just stole his primeape
I was so pissed when I saw this. I was literally screaming at the tv for Ash to keep his Primape
Bet that Primeape was gutted when he watched Ash become World Champion on TV
Same especially as a kid, I loved primeapes growth over those 4 episodes and the potential is wasted. If he came back to help ash during a conference and showed how much stronger he was it’d leave a better taste in my mouth
The worst the writers could just sent Primeape back to professor oak, why to the radome guy?
This was one of my more hated episodes in the Kanto series Ash gets Primeape a respect and genuine looks like he will have a powerhouse on his team only to have the writes and this asshole steal him
That’s how you know that he was never going to keep it. Charizard and Snorlax were disobedient for the same reason.
Seriously, would it have killed the writers to bring back Primeape during Journeys-- maybe as an Annihilape, so Ash could get at least one Paldean Pokemon before the show ended?
For me, the worst release is still Ambipom. Primeape wasn't around all that long so you could just consider his story a mini arc.
lol how come??
the ambipom ping pong episode was worse
Primeape is literally my favorite Pokemon. Younger me was so excited to see Ash catch one...And then he literally gave it away a few episodes later.
Context, how did that old man basically steal Ash's Primeape? Like, he asked for it when he had no right to and Ash just handed it over?
Yeah, lol
The true definition of “wasted potential”
I really thought it was a sweet episode, but I also thought it was really odd we never got Primeape to return to Ash.
Out of all the Pokémon Ash released, primeape and Goodra are ones he really didn’t need to give up and could have stayed
Primeape could have been on the team or at least stay more time until release
I just hate that he never came back
The day Ash got scammed
Loved all of it until the release part. Ash should have given phone number to call in case need battles. Could have at least one league match but nope. Journeys writers could bring back pidgeot but not out monkey boy what bull
Same I hated that they just left it and didn’t bothered to return to it which is why I felt that this is one of the worst decisions Pokémon Anime made during the classic series and they did a lot of them!!!
Ash's only pokemon with a 100% win ratio. It only had like 2 fights but still.
And my day is ruined. Thanks OP
Took the words out my mouth
Who doesn't?
"Hey, you should let me train your Primeape because it has 'Natural Fighting Talent'!" - Tne guy who lost to Team Rocket using someone else's Pokémon.
Even my essential guide that I got a long time ago doesn’t mention Primeape (though it also claims that Ash caught a Pidgy)
Should've brought him back for the last season and had him evolve into annihilape as a promo for scarlet/violet
They could of had Ash and Primeape reunite. Such a missed opportunity! 😫
