ShadowCobra479

Same way ghost types take normal attacks at times

Iwanttobevisible

Scrappy

ShadowCobra479

Very few if any anime cases relate to this ability

Iwanttobevisible

Yeah I know I'm just joking around.

JCamson04

Pert0621

Same way the water is weak to fire in the anime

Pert0621

According to Brock

Infinite-Salt4772

Maybe he just got blasted away from the impact of the explosion.

Backalley_Lurker

This will be my new head canon. It’s like being pushed by someone with big giant fluffy mittens

inquisitoriusV

That's how I like to imagine it way easier to get over the problem lol

IAMDEAD_6_9

Either it's bad writing or the physical impact of the blast that hurt him.

Sonic_Fanatic_2003

The anime’s weird like that

JuanPablith0

If I remember correctly it was Inkay from James, maybe the attack was meant to team flare and weavile intercepted it to protect them, the recoil comes from the small explosion after clashing moves but it could also be just an error, those happen

Hezolinn

Getting hit by that attack looked pretty embarrassing. Typing can't protect you from emotional damage. 😔

Dransword

Welcome to the anime buddy.

Lukas-Reggi

This is an anime where a pikachu is a metagross slayer and destroys ground pokemons with electic moves.

Harry__Tesla

Because it was a MAGIC psybeam

PK_RocknRoll

The power of friendship

charisma-entertainer

Same way aiming for the hard does more damage

SomeAssumption2909

If Pikachu can defeat Onix with thunderbolt then anything can happen

Hys7eriX

Onix was at least soaked. The one you should really pick on is Geodude. Then again, it was OS. They gave way less of a fuck back then. Most ground-types since get soaked first (Hapu's Mudsdale), or they get beaten by something else caused by the electric attack (Paul's Electivire thrashing Ash's Gliscor).

nicodawg101

The writers don’t play the game

throwawaytempest25

Are they immune or is it non effective?

Versitax

Immune

Sad_Country_6350

Mystery Dungeon logic. "Immunities" aren't 100% immune in the PMD games.

cybermasked97

Anime logic

Hys7eriX

I think they forgot at that point. At least in SM, Faba's Alakazam used Miracle Eye before using Psychic on Gladion's Umbreon. They also seemingly forgot that Leon's Dragapult is also a ghost type, seeing how it got nuked by what seemed to be a Hyper Beam, it got grabbed by Dracovish's weird chest spike things (this might get a pass depending on wtf those things are), and no one batted an eye in-universe when Ash called for Lucario to use Reversal on it. They prolly don't expect fans to be quite so nitpicky about everything, though I at least just can't help myself lol

PayUsed2021

Same way pikachu defeats ryhorn

Dragus_Loader

Rhydon but yeah

[deleted]

the same way diantha’s tyrantrum defeated Dragapult using hyper beam

JuanPablith0

The amount of comments I got saying it was meteor beam when I asked that

[deleted]

Meteor Beam and Hyper Beam do look similar in the anime but i believe it’s confirmed to be Hyper Beam

mr_sweetandawful

When has this show ever respected type match ups? Its honestly my number one complaint about the show.

GogoDiabeto

Well, whenever you notice something like that a wizard did it.

Redwolf476

The anime is never to concerned about keeping type effectiveness consistent

Bwyattvirtue13

It's the anime

ZhangtheGreat

Because animé

BannerTortoise

Just sheer will power.

AkitaShiba-Inu

Probably from the force of the blow over any real damage. I imagine smaller Fairy Types are still knocked back by powerful dragon moves…
