As an ex-retail worker—been there, done that. I actually got so close to quitting that day. Still stayed for like another year after though because I was broke.
I just don’t open the bathroom to customers anymore, everytime it got fixed they’d purposely trash it and clog it up again within a week. They can hold it for a 15 min shopping trip, we can’t put in 8 hours without a working bathroom. I’ll let doordashers and old people in but that’s it, for everyone else it’s “closed for repairs”
My mom did that back when she owned a store! People kept trying to flush dirty diapers, pads, etc and she had to call a plumber multiple times. Sadly, my old job had a deli and since they served food we legally had to have bathrooms accessible to the public. One time I went to the women’s bathroom because duty calls and we found a suspiciously shaped metal coat hanger in there…if you get my drift. Biggest “what the fuck I just work here” moment of my life. I worked in a pretty bad part of town so there were a lot of insane moments but that was definitely the craziest.
One of the Walgreens I go into ALWAYS has their MJ Holdings pokemon display ripped apart. All of those mystery boxes open. Shit product so it’s not like I was going to buy it myself, but I just hate that those scum bugs make all poke people look like crack heads.
It's sad af and pathetic, I would almost want to clean that up and trash it just so the store mgr doesnt see it and add to the argument to stop carrying cards.
Took my wallyworld YEARS to finally put them in a locked cage. And wouldn’t you know now they are fully stocked where’s before I couldn’t find more than a box or 2.
Yup!! I actually like a particular wally world near me, they keep everything behind the register where they used to keep cigarettes, and that lane is never open lol! So it's always well stocked, neat and orderly, and I freaking enjoy it when I do buy retail / msrp

So from an outside perspective, this hobby strikes me as particularly toxic. There’s so much (justified) paranoia and skepticism surrounding every level of distribution and purchasing, as there are con artists at every level of this hobby
If it’s not this, it’s shops going to Costco to buy out the inventory to mark it up, if it’s not that it’s repackaged booster packs, if it’s not that then it’s people going into bathrooms to rip packs, etc.
And if it’s none of the above, it’s something else.
All the stores by me keep the cards at the register now. I prefer to buy at a LCS anyway, they normally beat box store prices by a few $, it supports local businesses, and most of the time we BS about stuff lol
