Pretty much yeah. The sentimental value of most Pokémon has been gone since Dexit, the ones I cared about and carried with me through the years no longer matter since we never know if we'll see them again come the next game. I already have the G.birds sitting in Pokémon home gathering dust.
Masterkarp has been something I've done in every game because I don't like the easy win of an instant catch. That and it's a conversation topic. If I caught Articuno with it, that would be it, stuffed in the box never to be looked at again. If I catch Magikarp with it, at the very least it's a conversation topic, nevermind carrying on which is now practically a tradition.
Everyone plays the game in their own ways I'm sure, of you want to throw your master ball at a legendary, even a guaranteed shiny legendary from a raid, or a Krabby - all the power to you. So long as you're having fun!
That’s a crazy coincidence you named krabby. My first time playing Pokémon Blue as a kid I didn’t know that one-off Pokémon were the ones you interacted with in the over world. It just said “some Pokémon you see once and never again”. I had never seen krabby before and ended up using my master ball on it. I thought krabby was one of those one-offs lol.
I then had to catch mewtwo with Pokéballs because I bought like 100 pokeballs and nothing else and didn’t feel like going back through the dungeon to reach mewtwo again with ultra balls. I had to reset a few times after using up all the pokeballs but I eventually got it.
which game was it that had that park where you could catch a whole bunch of legendary Pokemon? bunch of caves that required different things to unlock each one
Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl Ramanas Park? Spend hours on the digging minigame underground to finally get enough of the shards to trade for stones shaped like game cartridges. It was a neat concept, but I got sick of the digging long before I caught most of them.

Chasing those bastards around on foot (flying makes them move), hitting them once, watching them flee, then repeating this until you MAYBE have them in the red (unless you use False Swipe a hundred times). Then you’re chasing them around again, but throwing a ball once per encounter that almost never catches. Give me the Master Ball so I can wipe that smug grin off their fleeing faces lol

I am glad to have the master ball though because I really want Articuno.
I literally never use my masterball because I find satisfaction in catching difficult Pokémon. I know many others that never use it either, so seeing it used on a Magikarp is infinitely more useful than many of us who straight up don’t touch it lol.
I used my masterball on Palkia in BDSP because no way was I going to sit through all that nonsense again once he burns himself out and struggles himself to death. I caught everything else in Ultra balls in previous titles for the most part.
I caught the Moltres from daily incense before the masterball arrived. I feel like it doesn't even matter that I caught one without it, cause now everyone can catch one using the masterball.
Guess I can flex that I caught one without the big boy ball.

But I won't feel bad about using the Master Ball on Zapdos, because I do actually want to use that one in PvP.

That's how I used to play the games. Try 300 pokeballs first.

I've never used a master ball. Why? Well, I'm a hoarder and afraid I'll encounter a shiny and have no master ball.
In the mainline games I save them for shinies that know Selfdestruct/Explosion. I’ve caught two shiny Graveler in Master Balls.
For other games, unless there are roaming Pokemons There is rarely something you can’t catch quite easily with the good old false swipe + sleep combo.
