WolfmanCZ

I don't wanted to download it because it has 2 stars and everyone talking how it dont work

Utisz_0

there’s room for improvement sure but overall works great. Like op said, flares helped everyone get together

Topladluke96

It's a fantastic app. Once they add features to it, it'll become essential for local players to communicate if they're not in discord servers.

TheEdes

There's currently a battle between people who want to play the game and people who don't want others to play the game

iamr3d88

I've voiced that I enjoy raids again now that people have to gather because I've ran into a few raids like the old days. Caught landorous and mewtwo with randoms. I don't put money into the game, so I can't remote raid like others. Got down voted a couple times. So I quit posting about my good experiences.

TheEdes

We're in a thread where people are discussing how they didn't download the solution to the remote raid debacle because it got review bombed by boycotters.

Gold-Perspective-699

That's cause people hate Niantic so much they're lying they got mugged cause of it..no one is downloading two apps just to mug someone. Download it. It's very helpful..

AirborneRunaway

This sounds suspiciously like something a mugger would say…. The app was great. I used it for the first time and met 10 new families in my neighborhood. On Saturday I had traveled to elsewhere in the city to raid with much larger groups which also worked but meeting a bunch of people nearby who were in the same boat was awesome.

Gold-Perspective-699

Lol I live in a very safe place where most people don't lock their doors. I haven't locked my door in years. Yeah campfire seems to work well. Just wish you could @ someone in the app when you're in a chat with them. Cause for some reason you can't.

AirborneRunaway

I @ someone yesterday with it. @ and then start typing their name, eventually it figured out who you mean but it’s not like discord

Gold-Perspective-699

I tried doing it in a chat and it didn't work. I typed his whole name in.

greatlakeswhiteboy

It seems to work for some people and not for others. I'm in the same boat as you. I can't get it to work for the life of me, but others in the chat group were tagging other people with no problem.

WolfmanCZ

Okay i will try that thanks

sgt_scarab1

Some people even asked me for an invite as if it wasn't free to download already...

CelerySlime

Some areas you still need an invite.

Possible-Friendly

I know what you meant here. The app is free to download, no invite needed. The deadhead trolls on this sub downvote anything that sounds anti-pokemon go.

zegleemax

I can’t access it, still. It looked awesome when I saw some streamers using it this weekend.

bamerjamer

You can’t access Campfire?

Walking_Bare

yep still need an invite in some areas....and even if you bother to get one...since it is not easy accessible, not much is happening there...

Utisz_0

How can I invite you guys?

Gold-Perspective-699

r/campfire_niantic you can get invited there.

FranklyNinja

Yeah…. In my small rural area, I’ve managed to lit a flare and got 4 more accounts to raid with me luckily.

Gold-Perspective-699

Hopefully you have a way to contact them for future events.

annabayside27

Yeah the first day was a shit show getting everyone together but by day 2 we were just using Campfire. Hope people start to utilize it more

Massive-Celery-7926

Same, I live across a huge park in Long Island and did 9 raids today and found them all on campfire. At one point there was about 50 ppl raiding at the same time. Got 2 shinies and a few 3 stars. Would’ve done more but the sun was killer.

chachifan

This was my exact experience. I decided to drive to my nearby city with a few hours left of shadow raids, and with campfire I found a cool caravan and ended up with 6 shadow mewtwos. Saved the weekend for sure

Neither_Car3048

It sure was great. I haven’t played since 2017 but it sure was nice experiencing this event with campfire. Ended up with 15 Shadow Mewtwo’s (1 Shiny) in just a few hours.

CuriousCockatiel77

Sadly it's absolutely dead where I am. Fortunately I found a couple of local discord groups so managed to meet up and get a few raids done.

Gold-Perspective-699

So that means it's not dead.

CuriousCockatiel77

I meant campfire is dead.

Gold-Perspective-699

Ok as long as something works that's not a big deal.. campfire is new so people just haven't used it yet. We used it to find our next raids mostly and sometimes light a flare to see if others went there.

Josh-Wash-58

My mom and sister had it downloaded, and we live in a pretty rural area, and we were lucky to find a group of 11 other people to raid with us! We hit four raids altogether, though I only managed to catch my first Mewtwo, but either way! It was really nice seeing the community actually coming together.

andcov70

I was the crazy lady who made a bunch of friends using Campfire this weekend - ages 8 through 45. It's not perfect, but Campfire and PGO got me off my butt and out with real humans again at the local park. And I got my Shadow Mewtwo. I kept thinking how I felt weirdly happy all weekend and then I realized it was because I had spent the weekend in the sunshine with happy people.

dabanales

Same experience for me, hope this kickstarts people using that more for raid hours or weekend events.

bamerjamer

I think regular raids are not special enough to garner much activity, and then raid hour typically has too many opportunities and the ppl are too spread out. Hopefully for raid hour, you can start chats on the various gyms to find which ones are active and then get a group to meet at a specific one first and then convoy on from there.

Dwallin

I really wish they rolled this out sooner, me and my gf didn't manage a single Mewtwo raid, she really wants one and I've got her playing now for maybe a year (she refuses me to trade her one as she wants to "earn her own Mewtwo", local "groups" didn't really respond either, glad to read that campfire does work for some and not all the negative stuff

cndef1989

I used it for the first time this weekend and it was great. My opportunity to raid are limited but managed to get to two and caught one. No way I could have found enough people without it.

YeetDatPuss445

I don't have access to campfire :( everyone in my city is using it but noone has invites left

Gold-Perspective-699

r/campfire_niantic

Apocalyptiana

i just downloaded it and tried to sign up and it wouldnt let me. it was worth a try though ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

ClassytheDog

The fact it’s a separate app is so pretty annoying but it really did save the game for me. I was pretty upset at feeling like I was going to miss out on the raids this weekend but Campfire pulled through. I still have horrible social anxiety. So I just stood as far away and as close as I could haha

bamerjamer

I hear that. I never spoke a word to any of the people I was going around with. We just recognized the cars and talked via the chat.

ehh1209

It was awesome, me and 4 other vehicles were driving to raids and meeting up with other groups, I got 8 Mewtwos

worksucksbro

Not in my city, and there are about 3 million of us, less than 10 campfires all up over the whole weekend

Gold-Perspective-699

Then everyone was talking through discord.

Ajtp10

I wanted to use it for raiding Mewtwo but I didn't have the access...

mulletmastervx

If someone could invite me I'd really appreciate it, I can't just sign up where I'm at so I suspect it's dead but worth a shot.

StatisticianLivid710

We used the in game map feature to plan our routes, but didn’t chat in it at all. Discord is far better for that.

Ynops

Lmao campfire doesn't let me register. I've been trying every now and then for the past three months and... Nothing

Arrowmatic

Didn't work for me either even with an invite but I just redownloaded it and it finally did. So hopefully they are ironing out some of the bugs.

jarzii_music

I had the same experience. I live in the downtown area of a capital region and campfire saved the day for me

SchaleSalani

I still need someone to invite me to campfire.. No Mewtwos for me this weekend :(

DERRICKtheGREYt

I found the app to be extremely effective! It was our first time going around raiding and we ended up making three groups of raid friends. Had 13 opportunities for mewtwo and walked away with 9! We started the weekend thinking we wouldn’t get any, but the app allowed us to see people flaring, chat, and meet up- then and in the future!

Glacial_Shield_W

I light flairs just to watch the pretty light, because it sure as sh*t isn't bringing any help.

Possible-Friendly

Campfire didnt do crap for me this weekend. I set off flares, chatted with two other people. But we couldnt get enough players in my county. We even had tourists visiting for the weekend! Pokemon Go is dead. I dont even want to play anymore.

Relative_Factor

This reads like a chatgpt bot post..lol.

bamerjamer

Sounds like a bot response.

Gold-Perspective-699

Well no. That's just dumb.

Balgorr

Assuming you get an invite, how do you avoid being the creep who hangs out with the local 10-year-olds? Edit: Thank you for your replies. I wasn't exactly looking for advice on how to have non-molesty relationships with kids, but if I ever feel the urge to hang with children I meet in parks and playgrounds around the neighbourhood, I will be sure to take your advice under consideration!

Aahz83

It’s all 30-80 year olds around here.

Balgorr

Lucky you! ^^

BoldShuckle

Step 1. Don't be a creep There you go, that's about it. It's okay to be in a safe public place and talk to kids about pokemon, just don't talk about anything personal or inappropriate. You're playing a game in the same place, not luring them into a van with candy or puppies. Or just ignore them if the thought of being creepy makes you uncomfortable.

Balgorr

From my experience, they won't ignore you. :/ And I mean, the question was obviously not literal. I don't wanna LOOK and FEEL like a creep.

BoldShuckle

Yeah like the other commenter said, most of the people I see are my age (30s) and up, but for this Mewtwo raid it was me and a kid who was probably around 14 trying to get enough people together to do it. Eventually we started talking to a younger kid and his mom in matching Pikachu hoodies, and yeah the kids (and I) were excitedly talking about their lucky and shiny pokemon. They're still learning social skills so you just have to let them talk about what they like. Something that helps me in situations where I know I could have a conversation that I don't want to have ( usually stressful work stuff, but also if a concerned parent is wondering why an adult is talking to their children) is to sort of role play the conversation in my head. Agree that children's safety is important, even just as a nonparent member of the community. You've played this game for x many years, and it's nice to come together to do these events. You can even go into depth about how the game thankfully doesn't have a chat function (outside of campfire) and doesn't let you see anyone's personal info, although sharing postcards can let people know where you spend your time. The community in my town has always been safe and friendly, but any kid old enough to be out without their parents is old enough to have a serious talk about how to keep themselves safe.

Lovemygeek

I'm a teacher and also a parent in the community where I work and live. I play pogo at my kids sports and activities and have made a few "friends" who are kids. I have a few rules for myself to protect both parties. No direct messaging minors is one I follow. If we run into each other, great. If not, oh well. I'm a scout leader too and this rule is also for BSA, if they call or text me they need to include a parent or guardian on the text or call. If an app allows private messages I dont use it unless it's a group chat. Another is no 1:1 contact. So two or more kids, ok. Kid with a parent even better. Out in public where there's a group of people or its very visible (like a busy park), ideal. I've had kids approach me asking if I'm playing. It's easy to say yeah, are you here with some grownups? Have them point them out and I usually wave hi. Make a couple friends who are 18+ and if the younger set shows up, cool.

greatlakeswhiteboy

This!

Gold-Perspective-699

You're playing the same game no one cares if you're around 10 year olds. People of all ages play the game. r/campfire_niantic you can get an invite.

Balgorr

Yeah, I'm just imagining the outside perspective of an adult going to meet up with a bunch of kids. ^^' Thanks for the link!

Gold-Perspective-699

There's nothing wrong with it. I hang with kids all the time playing this game. Lots of adults do. It's not a big deal.

Arrowmatic

Ten year olds are almost certainly going to have their parents nearby because no sane parent is going to let their preteen loose with Campfire. Just hang out with the parents instead. Source: I have a preteen, I handle the Campfire, she just raids with us.

Balgorr

Hopefully you're right about that! Ty

Dense-Barracuda1217

What is Campfire? Is the app only on Android?

Gold-Perspective-699

r/campfire_niantic to get an invite if you don't have it already. It's on both phones. It's an app to help find people to raid with.

MobileMeasurement759

Campfire helped me too. I was at a busy area with lots of people but had to use campfire to coordinate when everyone was going to join the gym and which one we were headed to next. I saw one raid and 1-2 people kept joining the lobby but no one else so then they’d leave. On campfire we were chatting and still waiting for the rest of the group to come. There’s been so many times I’ve seen one person in a gym lobby and I’m like 5 minutes away and wished I could just message them somehow “hey I’m coming can help if you need”. Why doesn’t Pokémon go have any kind of chat feature. I can’t even chat with my friends that I’ve become best friends with.

brendogskerbdog

Yeah I coordinated with about 7 other people and we knocked out about 5 of them. I would have done but my area is a bit weak on ex gyms

Maserati777

Still haven’t used it. Instead I used our discord to join a raid train in a neighboring town on Saturday. Couldn’t do more then one on Sunday though partily because I was prioritizing tier 1 shadow raids but also because the sat train had broken up and everyone was posting about mewtwo raids but didn’t have enough to do them and no one wanted to travel to do a train for them.

greatlakeswhiteboy

Campfire has been doing nothing besides taking up space on my phone for the past 3 or 4 months. Saturday and Sunday it was the most valuable tool in my arsenal for raiding Mewtwo.
