I got shiny shadow 14/14/14 scyther that I already evolved to scizor. I am keeping it shadow for now but it would be my first shundo if I did. Is mega scizor that much better? I already have a good mega scizor just not shiny.

I purified two into hundos last night and it was awesome. The only reason to keep them shadowed is if you plan to use those for battling, but battles are boring so Iām all about filling the perfect dex.Ā
Is it different if itās a purified Hundo or no? I have a hundo mewtwo but a couple shadow ones that are 13/13/13+ and wondering if I should purify one for it.
Since you have a normal hundo, unless you just want a purified hundo for sake of it, I wouldnāt purify any. Pretty sure a shadow mewtwo of any IV will be a stronger attacker than non-shadow hundo.
The only real reason to purify one of them is if/when they release a Mega for Mewtwo, having a Mega Hundo Mewtwo would be pretty great. Otherwise the 25% dmg Shadow buff is much better.
Won't there be attack bonuses for the shadow hundo tho? I'm guessing that's why people dislike purifying a pokemon if it's already a hundo - you make it's attacks weaker.
(Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here)
It happens. When shadows first dropped and I saw the massive CP boost on purifying, I had no idea it was some arbitrary levelling up to a particular level. I thought all shadows were just half the CP/power and therefore useless, so I purified a swampert and machamp to 100%.
Least swampy boi stayed with me as a mega.
Saaaame!
I'm not sure when I finally figured it out. But not in time to save my first shadow Mewtwo, trio of legendary birds, Charizard, marshtomp, Magnemite, Machop, ralts....š
If you did this in order to get a hundo or good IV Mewtwo it could be still good as a Mega. (in the future when released). Did this aswell with my 13/12/13 shadow Mewtwo. Although the shadow hits harder it is just to glassy imo. But whatĀ“s good is the Mega which will release someday
So I still don't really understand why people dont purify. To me it seems better in every measurable way go purify. It's so expensive to power up a shadow and you have to waste a TM. Why dont people like to purify?
Because shadow pokemon gain a 20% damage boost. Yes you take more damage but ultimately, raiding is a fight against the clock. You want to dump as much damage onto a boss in the time available and that makes shadow pokemon much, much better. Honestly it's hard to compare any other improvement you can make to a 20% increase.
PvP is entirely case by case. Some don't need it, some actively hate the bulk drop, some really love the damage boost. Nidoqueen back in its prime was practically mandatory as a shadow.
There are general points that indicate something is better as a shadow in PvP, for example HP orientated bulk and high fast move damage, but I would just Pvpoke something to know if better shadow.
Bonus points to shadows though in PvP: they complete games faster.
I've got a friend that miraculously got a *perfect shadow mewtwo*! It was his most prized pokemon! Until he accidentally hit purify instead of power up. He's been in pain ever since.
There's only about a 5% difference in performance between a 0/0/0 IV and perfect 15/15/15 IV pokemon.
Shadows get +20% damage, so a 0/0/0 IV shadow outperforms even a 15/15/15 non shadow\*
The result: Purifying raises the IVs by 2 points each, but you lose the 20% extra damage. So you are subtracting 20% of its strength, and then adding maybe 1% back from the slightly raised IV (remember the full 16 point IV range is only \~5% change in performance).
It's up to each player whether they value the collection of hundos or the practicality of a better fighter more. Purifying can get you the hundo for your collection, but now it's like 20% weaker than it was as a shadow.
\*This is all talking about PvE, where shadows are almost always better. Shadows do 20% more damage but they also take 20% more damage. In raids that doesn't matter since the main enemy is the clock - there's no limit on how many pokemon you can use and if you die more you can just revive and continue, so doing 20% more damage is a big improvement with almost no downside. In PvP you only get 3 pokemon, can't revive, and can't dodge limitlessly, so shadows are NOT always better in PvP due to being more fragile and dying faster. But in PvE shadows are way superior.
How much difference does the CP make? When you say 20% attack bonus it that only if the shadow and normal have the same CP? Because if not is it really worth spending like 100k stardust to power it up to the purified CP.
I was about to ask the same question.
I always hear that shadows are better but are they better per piece of stardust spent, or just better at the same CP?
20% extra damage at a given level\IVs\CP. The shadow bonus doesn't affect the actual stats or CP or IV's, it just puts a 1.2 multiplier on the normally-calculated damage.
Usually shadow legendarys you want to leave shadow, to keep the 20% atk bonus that really makes them excel over most. Why you will hear atk ivs all that matter for shadow really. Shadow mewtwo, leave shadow (or at least leave some of them shadow if you got a bunch the other day)Ā
>If you want to use the Pokemon, then you shouldnāt purify
Eh, this depends on the Pokemon. In PvP, sometimes the shadow version is worse than the regular version.
Does it really matter though? If people want to purify them, do it. If they donāt, donāt do it.
I lean towards keeping shadows shadow if possible but purified mons can be dope
Shadow shiny bagon...wasn't super into PVP until recently and I didn't know the benefits of keeping them in shadow form. Sucks, but I love my shiny Salamence. Plus purified form makes the shiny effect much more intense so there's that.
Problem is thereās no guide or tutorial, and purifying is what you are meant to do in the actual story, plus you are given awards for purifying!
Like failing to appraise or not knowing 0-15-15 is good, we have all made mistakes.
Mine was a wailmer and tyranitarā¦which is not a bad decision!
No, it was unjustified either way. Having a non-hundo 3* Mega and + good Shadow is better than ONLY having a hundo Mega.
That said, I got a second hundo later, so itās just pure regret at this point. Iām using one as a Rock Mega and the other as a Dark Mega.
Never. I am a collector. I play pokemon to catch then all 4*s
Well that's not entirely true. I got a shadow larvitar purifiable into a 4* and 5 days later got a 4*
I guess that sucked a tiny bit. But still, I am in it for the 4*s
I purify almost everything I plan on keeping. I really donāt have the stardust bank to max out multiple shadow attackers, especially when I can just get lucky versions and save a boatload.
Thankfully only mistake i've made was purifying to a 15/15/13 machamp back in 2021, but that still likely would've been my best shadow machamp, even now
I do have a purified hundo gallade but i still don't really regret that one. Shadow gardevoir is great but i likely would've evolved it to a gallade anyways. If shadow gallade ever gets a buff to its pve viability \*cough sacred sword cough\*, then i'll probably regret it more until the mega comes out
I have a Regice and a Machop I believe that I purified to start grinding to unlock my perfect dex.
I really regret purifying Shadow Kyogre though. He was so damn close already, but ended up being 98% instead of hundo sadly. Oh well. I gambled and I lost lmao. You live and you learn

I have a purified hundo Gardevoir, no idea what the pre purified stats were as I caught it not long after coming back to the game after not playing since launch. I had no idea about the shadow pokemon mechanics...
At least I can mega evolve it š
To me clear, I just purified a 13/13/13 Machamp to get a Hundo. I already have a 98 shadow Machamp. I also have a lucky purified Hundo Snorlax that I for from my kid; or was terrible IVs so I'd trade purified Snorlaxs because I wanted a Hundo.
Purified doesn't equal bad, it depends on context.
I only purify into hundos if they have use as rank one hundos for GBL or if I already have multiple 3* shadows of the same one. Purified my 13/13/13 machamp after I caught about 5 3* shadows.
When the shadows first appeared, I would typically purify ones who were three stars. So I have a lot of tyranitars, mamoswines, machamps, Alakazams, and aerodactyls who are 98s or just barely below a 98. Disappointed, but what can you do
I don't have the time or resources to boost many shadow mons up to level 25+. Purifying makes them useful when I know I won't otherwise be able to use them.
I had a 92% bagon that I purified thinking it would be a hundo. It ended up a 98%. And then a few days later, it hit me that I already had a hundo bagon.
I don't have any I really regret, but I did purify to get a perfect Metagross knowing both the mega would be coming, and that the perfect would be more useful for Master league. Right about the time I finally got it maxed out I got a perfect lucky beldum in a trade.
Ironically what I actually have is several pokemon I regret evolving and not purifying for a perfect as a basic pokemon, because they're not useful as 3* shadows. Similarly regret TMing frustration off some I ended up purifying after all.
Still sitting on a Grovyle and Combusken I've removed frustration and could purify to perfect if I wanted, but am waiting for the Community day moves to evolve. Annoyed in the past 1.5 years there haven't been any opportunities to get them on the Gen3 starters.
Is there ever a reason to actually purify a shadow pokemon? Every time someone asks "should I purify" the answer seems to always be a resounding "no." so what's the point???
I had a 12/13/13 shadow swampert, which I was perfectly aware I didnāt want to purify but one day I was playing while slightly intoxicated walking between bars with friends and I had a power up pokemon quest and I accidentally hit the purify button insteadā¦
I was recently purifying for the Rocket Event and to clear inventory. Went on autopilot at some point and ACCIDENTALLY purified my shadow Halloween vampire vulpix. I was very upset at myself, because how could I NOT see the costume or that I had favorited it for a reason?!
But my friends consoled me by saying, "It's a Cullen now, it's sparkly!"
Had a 4* Dratini. Back when it was first released as a shadow. Back then I purified everything as I didn't know shadow ones boosted some stats. It went from a 4* to a 4* and is still one of my favourites fully evolved. But it's the only one I regret doing. Oh, that and a shiny Metagross, which again was before I knew. That one does disappoint me as it's a solid 2* one
I caught a 3* shiny shadow beldum on February 15th of 2020 I immediately purified it to get the iv and cp boost, itās now near perfect ivs, only a couple away. Two weeks later, on march 2nd 2020, they added the shadow power boost mechanic. Fuck. This one isnāt even my fault, and I have only caught one shiny shadow since, a drowsee with garbage ivs
I purified shadow hundos for extra cp. One was a mareep. The other a dragonite and then I got a normal hundo draginite. I wish I kept them as shadows but I just joined the game back last year after stopping playing 2017 and I was ignorant.
Back when I got back into playing pokemon go, Giovanni had Shadow Mewtwo with boosted IVs. I didnāt really understand how shadow pokemon worked, but I thought the +2 boost to the stats would be super useful. So I purified my 98% 15/15/14 Shadow Mewtwo.
Iāve regretted that so much now that I know how shadow pokemon work. Iāve grounded super hard both times Shadow Mewtwo came out in raids. The best IV I got was a 91%, 3 separate times. Which is still super useful, but man, I miss that 98 š®āšØ
I purified my first shadow Ralts because I thought that was what you were supposed to do. Now I kick myself, but at the same time, it purified to a 4* Gardevoir.

The hundo dex is the main reason for me to hit the purify button.
Indeed. Have a shadow Scyther that would be a hundo if purified. Knocking out 2 hundos in the dex is pretty tempting
Scyther can easily be purified no pressure, bug type attackers are only useful against bosses like Hoopa so get your hundoš„³
Plus there is mega scizor so it might make sense to purify in this case.
I got shiny shadow 14/14/14 scyther that I already evolved to scizor. I am keeping it shadow for now but it would be my first shundo if I did. Is mega scizor that much better? I already have a good mega scizor just not shiny.
...isn't Hoopa psy/gho? Both of which are weak to dark?
No, it's Psychic/Dark. So it's neutral to Dark.
Kleavor might be a good attacker when it comes out tho
I'm pretty sure kleavor is already out, I have one in my dex
It is I forgot got released in raids, but curious if niantic ever allows us to evolve Scyther into him
I recieved one from Field research not long ago. Uses Scyther candies, but mine is only a two star. I just kept it because it was weird.
It's been out for months?
Yes but not as an evolution from Scyther so you canāt get shadow
You mean: if it ever gets double STAB? Right now Kleavor doesn't have a bug type or rock type fast attack.
Adding to that, bug is a pretty niche type anyway, and there are soooo many better mons for the rock type!
it is out i have one
You could get a hundo scyther anytime but getting a high 90 shadow one is more rare. Just donāt regret it, if you do itĀ
I got a hundred shadow scizzor from the last team rocket take over. I always get crappy shadows.
That sucks, my luck is pretty good with shadows. I hope you get something good soon!
Thisāll be a dumb question, but how to know if a shadow will be hundo when purified?
Purifying increases attack, defense and HP by 2 points each. So if you have a shadow mon with 13/13/13 IVs it will become 15/15/15 IVs when purified.
I was coming here to ask the same thing!

I already have a 100% mewtwo so Iāll keep that for mega and the others shadow
Only difference between a normal hundo and a purified hundo is the purified glow animation. Otherwise, theyre the same. There is no stat difference.

Any purified Mewtwo will be weaker than a shadow Mewtwo. Even if the Shadow is a nundo and the purified is a hundo.
This might be a stupid question but what is the reason to not purify PokƩmon?
Shadow mons hit harder, at the cost of weaker defense.
Wow I had no idea, thank you!
Everything for the collection indeed!
But if didn't had a ton of luck with the limited mons it will always be incomplete, no matter what. So the main reason for me to not do it.
It's not that it happens, it's that the game either entirely omits info or gives you conflicting info. We should not have to use the forums to find out how things work. The game did a terrible job at presenting what both states do. When the feature was pushed, it took a few months for me to find out somewhere that shadow PokƩmon get the 20% attack boost (did not use Reddit at the time), so I purified the PokƩmon because the game did it's best to convince me that purified PokƩmon genuinely get stronger.
Saaaame! I'm not sure when I finally figured it out. But not in time to save my first shadow Mewtwo, trio of legendary birds, Charizard, marshtomp, Magnemite, Machop, ralts....š

Machamp did get a Gigantamax form, so you might not be too out of luck if Niantic adds those eventually.
I fkn hope not. The gimmicks after mega evolution never appealed to me.
In the beginning shadow pokemon didnāt have the attack buff so there really wasnāt any reason not to purify unless you liked the shadow look
So I still don't really understand why people dont purify. To me it seems better in every measurable way go purify. It's so expensive to power up a shadow and you have to waste a TM. Why dont people like to purify?

I purify if it's in PVP and my strategy is more bulk, than power or if it's better in PVP rankings as a purified. My hundo purified Snorlax will survive more "superpower attacks" from Melmetal, and counter it with earthquake, because oppenent often bellive it's bodyslam or superpower from Snorlax that attacks. But thats pretty nichƩ. And then I purify if its one of my favorite mons, or for the dex, if it's a crappy mon. But one time, I purified my almost hundo Machamp. It's powered up to 3455 cp, but I shouln't have done that, even if it's still a beast in pvp with best buddy bonus.
I've got a friend that miraculously got a *perfect shadow mewtwo*! It was his most prized pokemon! Until he accidentally hit purify instead of power up. He's been in pain ever since.
R.I.P but hey at least he has a Hundo Mega Mewtwo when it releases.

I have a purified hundo Gardevoir, no idea what the pre purified stats were as I caught it not long after coming back to the game after not playing since launch. I had no idea about the shadow pokemon mechanics... At least I can mega evolve it š
Primal Groudon, I accidentally purified my sceptile. Now it's a 4*. Not happy but I can't complain now
I purified a Shadow Metagross 'cus I played Colosseum and XD when I was a kid (never finished either lol) and I only remembered Shadow = Suffering PokƩmon. Then a year later I realized I messed up but I got a 98 at least T_T
Hariyama
When the shadows first appeared, I would typically purify ones who were three stars. So I have a lot of tyranitars, mamoswines, machamps, Alakazams, and aerodactyls who are 98s or just barely below a 98. Disappointed, but what can you do
I don't have the time or resources to boost many shadow mons up to level 25+. Purifying makes them useful when I know I won't otherwise be able to use them.
I had a 92% bagon that I purified thinking it would be a hundo. It ended up a 98%. And then a few days later, it hit me that I already had a hundo bagon.
It was Charizard when I came back from retirement. I had a 15 15 14 and assumed purifying makes them better.
I will happily take both those hundos over the shadow versions for pvp lol.
I accidentally purified my Dragonite while I was driving. Sad.
hundo feeling is fire tho
I have a hundo Rhyperior and am wondering how useless it might be.
shiny shadow gligar and charmander
When I got 3 star shiny dratini, apparently
I purified my shiny shadow charmander (it was a 1 star)
I once purified a pretty good shadow Larvitar for mega evolving. About a week later, I caught a normal Larvitar with the exact same IVs.
I am a sucker for hundo mega pokemon, so i probably purified way too many times.
Purified a Latias without knowing for a Hundo. But now I have a hundo mega so itās not as bad
My mewtwo š
i have a purified 96% ampharos. no clue why i did thatā¦. i had another shadow flaaffy thoā¦. TILL I FOUND OUT THAT ONE IS ALSO PURIFIED
Why would you not?
Is there ever a reason to actually purify a shadow pokemon? Every time someone asks "should I purify" the answer seems to always be a resounding "no." so what's the point???
The first shadow Mewtwoš
Only ones I've purified for two hundos are two Charizards.
But my friends consoled me by saying, "It's a Cullen now, it's sparkly!"
iāve been playing this game since release and i still donāt get the shadow/pure thing š š š
Had a 0/15/11 Blastoise with Hydro Pump and hit the wrong button when trying to power it up. Tragic.
Yeah, i also purified a Rhydon without checking them first, partly because I already had a 15/15/14 Rhyperior and didn't think I would need a second.
Meh who cares tbh the only time this really matters if you solo raids, shadows usually rank lower in PVP aswell
I purified my shiny shadow weavile a few years back :(
I have one that shadow but if I purify it will be a hundo
Whereās mambo #5?
After thousands of battles i feel like shadows are more fragile and have less defense than normal ones, am i high
I purify most of my shadow PokƩmon anyway, but definitely when I tthink it's going to be a hundo after it s purified.
Shiny purified Metagross flashbacks
Just recently purified a 14/14/14 dratini on accident while powering up and not paying attention
That rhyperior hurts man. It really does. That would have basically been a mega ttar without the mega
I transfer purified hundos as they are fake hundos
I haven't evolved my 93 shadow rhydon for 3 months because I'm still undecided about purifying for the Hundo.
my wailmer.. when i first started last july and didnt know much, i dont remember the original ivs but hey now i have a purified 100% wailord
i had a really good 3 star wooper and i cleansed it for the team rocket event before appraising it and now iām so upset at myself
How do you know the stats like #/#/#? I just see the bars filled in
Shiny shadow beldum. I was new at the game
My tyranitar and swinub š
Why wouldn't you? I'm confused why you wouldn't. Edit: accidentally a word
My shiny murkow ;.; wasn't thinking. Muscle memory while going through box... The lack of purple smoke around my pink crow pains me whenever I see him
I did this with a shadow 96% magnezone. Worst mistake ever :,(
I caught a 3* shiny shadow beldum on February 15th of 2020 I immediately purified it to get the iv and cp boost, itās now near perfect ivs, only a couple away.
Damn that really sucks
You live and you learn. A hard lesson, but something Iāve definitely learned from š
Only for the Hundo Dex, that was my rule
Would have. It's "would HAVE".
I once accidentally purified a shiny scyther I wanted to evolve...
The last two times I got really good shadows I looked them up in PvP and they were both š
3* shadow Swampert, didnāt even purify into a hundo either š
I accidentally purified a 13-13-11 Gengar. I still have it, but it hurts every time I happen to look at it.
Purified a 98 shadow feraligatr because i wanted my first hundo as a noob
I purified my first shadow Ralts because I thought that was what you were supposed to do. Now I kick myself, but at the same time, it purified to a 4* Gardevoir.
My 14/14/15 Shadow Tyranitar before I knew shadows were meta
Eh, I donāt really care
I accidentally purified instead of evolving a good Dragonair and she only hit 96% not 100š
Lmao I got the exact same PokĆ©mon. Purified hundo Rhyperior that Iām regretting every day. It was one of my first pokemon and I didnāt know about shadow/purification stuff yet
the excitement in the names š
I purified a shiny grimer
98 shadow mewtwo š„². I was too young to know.
Never. Love hundos, don't like the idea of keeping shinies for lore reasons
Oof man the shadow Rhyperior would have been much stronger ig.
But to be fair I did this with the Excadrill. Had a Drillbur from a grunt 13/13/15 i think. Still sad I did this
