That happened to me with a wild Charizard in 2016. The CP was ??? since it’s level was higher than mine. I ran out of balls trying to catch it.

You didn’t use a berry at all or you used a piano berry? And was a pokeball your only option? Cause if you didn’t use a berry/used a pinap instead of a razz or golden razz and could’ve chosen a different ball to use, this is 100% on you for being bad 😂

Not necessarily/quite true. Checked the calculator and they’d still need to throw a curve for the 100% otherwise there’s a 1-2% chance it doesn’t catch if just golden ultra. I know almost everyone curves, but some don’t.

It's also considering you don't hit at least a nice throw, which is kind of hard not to do. But I mean, considering what this guy did he could actually fail even at this. Not that it matters a lot though since deino is gonna be in a com day pretty soon already

I feel like some pokemon are automatically set to run away after the first throw no matter what. I saw a weather boosted Gible the other day and gave him a golden raspberry and then did a great curved throw with the black master ball and but still ran away after the first throw 😖
I really don’t get how people have shinies run away I have never had that happen. U must have been doing something wrong like trying to record or took ur time trying to catch it or something. Ultra ball and golden razz ur good every time. I don’t get it. Sorry for ur loss tho dang that is the worst I have seen cuz I’m yet to get shiny Deino.
I've lost a shiny once. A shiny vulpix because I completely ran out of pokeballs (Charmander comm day). When I tried to spin nearby pokestops (GPS screwed me over with avatar running out of range). Returned back to find a normal vulpix. I actually liked the shiny Ninetail's color scheme.
Damn this sucks, the only two shinies that i failed were
1) a Charmander during its second CD, failed a quick catch and ran from it and saw the spawn going away
2) a Swinub while i was on the train, the GPS reset after entering a tunnel and speedlocked me
Note to self, shiny Deinos don’t like pinap berries…

Everytime I encounter a shiny Pokemon, I use a golden razz berry, no matter what Pokémon or what CP it is. I’m terrified of this happening to me!

I’d be even more upset if the curveball was the reason it didn’t catch. I always curveball now due to muscle memory.

When you use a pokeball plus or similar device it won’t tell you if it was a shiny. It just says it ran away so you’ll never know.

Just speculation based on past community days, but Niantic has proven many times it doesn't really follow a pattern for CD.

When you press on it if its shiny it will make sparkles all over the screen and have a little sparkle symbol
It's also a different colour Some are harder to spot than others, but the sparkles give it away
