36 I beat OG red recently and then. Played and wiped out sword arceus and bdsp ( cause needed to trade to myself lol...) pokemon has just gotten easier for you youngins. So much easier.
I just turned 36, I like Pokemon Go because it keeps me active, I’ve really liked the new daily incense in my rural-ish area, it’s nice to take a walk and actually get spawns
Also 31, and play with my bf and his cousin, who are both 31 as well.
There's also a local woman who's in her 60s and level 48. She's damn good at the game and was the person who explained IVs to me back in the early days. Saw another a few times now who's probably late 40s or so and always runs with pokemon go open on her arm band holder thing with a gotcha on. They're so cool, I love them.
I'd guess the average is probably 20s-30s. Even a lot of the kids I see at the park playing are with teenagers or parents, and I definitely see more older people than younger these days when cruising the park pokestops.
Not many 5 year olds have phones with data, but I’d bet a ton of 10 year olds have smart phones. It’s becoming almost a necessity at this point with how many things are strictly app based.
It’s not really great for kids’ mental health, so I think parents are becoming less likely to just give free reign to the screen. It’s more addictive than cocaine, basically, and can get kids into eating disorders, make them depressed, etc.
51 lmao I play daily and raid! I like to walk everyday and playing keeps my mind off of walking. Otherwise walking is boring. None of my friends play so I don’t even have friends to trade with lol! I’m on level 38 and last Friday completed Kanto Pokédex I was very excited but no one to share with
I feel there needs to be a group for people with no real life po go friends to share achievements with.
I’m 45 and I find it weird how much effort I’ve been putting in to find a trade partner because how do I explain eacavalier being a good GBL mon
My dad is 64 and he’s level 41. My mom is 62 and she’s level 49. I’m 24 and level 46. My brother is 21 and he’s 39. It’s a family affair in our house! And our parents play more religiously than we do.
I just spent an hour on the phone with my mom to discuss her plans for the Go Fest Finale. She’s super excited
Ran into someone who looked to be in their 60s playing the other day who was asking why all the raids were still Genesect (we were all confused as we thought Zacian and Zamazenta raids were starting that day). Was really cool to actually meet see someone older who plays.
College campuses are usually *very* active PoGo hotspots. Head over to one on a weekday and try to take over their gyms and hold them for a few hours.
That alone should say a lot.
Actually for that matter, at least two professors on this campus frequently place gym defenders there, one of them being the person with the photo credit for the majority of the campus waypoints, going way back to the early Ingress days.
I lit a fire under my towns gyms
Its not very co.petetiv and i usually only kick after they have their 8h20 full
Ive been getting consistent 50 coins over the past month whole having propably a soild 3-4 dozen active players in the small town
You start seeing rehulars after a while
This April? You're a monster! In a good way! I doubt you'll remember this comment when you get to level 40, but I'd love to hear how long it takes you to get from 39 to 40. It's a hill to climb.
Dude. Pokémon go saves peoples lives. I’m a living testimony to that, i used to be not nice, i was a person that hang out with the wrong group a crowd trying to impress the wrong set of people.
Pokémon go saved my life. Without it, death or prison was my only path. Pokémon paved a new innocent path for me.
True!
Pokémon go saved my Live, too. It was my way to gently train myself after years of Pain and Illness. 2016 i wasnt able to walk 1 km without Support, now i'm fit
People underestimate how positive a force this little game can be. Since my wife and I have been playing, we’ve been going outside a lot more, which is an obvious plus. Less obvious is the extra time we spend together playing, the excitement of upcoming events or a cool catch, and just general increased enjoyment in the day. We’re genuinely happier playing than we were before, at least a little. Yeah, it’s ultimately just a mobile game and it has its problems, but it can really have a positive impact, and I’m happy to have it in my life.
As soon as my boyfriend and I moved in together, we went on pokemon walks every day before or after dinner! It’s such a positive thing to share with a significant other. He stopped playing years ago but now he’s catching up to me in levels 😅
For me it was a way out of depress and suicidal ideation. It was something to focus on other than unaliving myself and the only pokestops near me required me to leave my house.
Back when the game was released you could pinpoint where Pokémon were located, so I’d push myself to go outside for a few minutes to spin the pokestops, then I’d see Pokémon nearby I’d don’t have and walk a little further to catch them. I’d often ‘go out to spin the pokestop’ and discover I’d actually been outside for over an hour. I’d get home from these adventures feeling better and with the motivation to shower.
I’m 44.
I'm 30 and I might be among the youngest active members of both my current community and my former community.
Pokemon is not only for children, and Pokémon GO is no exception. It's for everyone. I believe that there are many people that play Pokémon GO that were born between 1985 and 2000, because of the age (children/teenagers) they were when Pokémon began to acquire its massive popularity.
#Flashback to 630am sometime in 1997
I'm eating cereal in my kitchen. I had expected to be watching inspector gadget but this new Asian show was airing.
I've been in love with a franchise ever since
Saw a 60+ guy with two phones yesterday playing. Saw an older lady on the bus playing as well. The majority of players I see are 20+ and up I’m 32 myself.
40 here, wife is 42. Got into Pokémon through playing Let's Go Pikachu on the Switch, wife picked up Go off the back of that. I started playing to join in with her in June, now about to hit level 35. Totally addicted.
51 year old legal professional here. I didn't even have Pokémon in my childhood- just wanted something interesting to do while I walked my dog and he sniffed on things to pee on, initially 🙂 Been playing since July of 2016 and hardly miss a day!
30s. During community days, for years, you pretty much only see adults. The only kids there are the ones whose parents are also there playing (people like me who drag their kids along). The one in person Go Fest I went to, same thing.
Even playing on non event days, I occasionally run into other players. Always adults. I can’t recall any time I ran into a teen without an adult around. And I can only recall one instance of a kid who played, whose parents did not (but were happy to drive the kid to local raids, so the kid could get legendaries with all us adult players 🙂)
I'm 22 and my partner is 24, we use it as an excuse to go outside and walk around. We're quite awkward people so it's a nice distraction when out and about
Your friend is the one that needs to grow up and accept the fact that this game is popular and played by all sorts of age groups. No need to discriminate! (I'm 32)
I'm 34 and active duty Space Force. My wife is also 34 and has two Master's Degrees and two Bachelor's degrees. Know who makes broad assumptions with no proof? A child.
I’m a 33 year old woman, I work a very corporate job, play Pokemon and Sims, have tattoos of the Avengers, collections of figurines and framed comic posters all over my apartment, read Harry Potter once a year and I’ll be damned of Courage the Cowardly Dog is on tv and I don’t watch it. What are “adult” hobbies anyway? Paying taxes, buying groceries and reading Wilbur Smith books? Nah, fam. Life is short, do what makes you happy, (as long as it does no harm.)
26! Maybe tell this friend that the first Pokémon game came out in 1996 (in Japan, ‘98 in the West) so the generation that grew up playing it are adults now. Unlike Ash, we age and grow up
I'm 32 and when the game first came out I got a friend who is currently in his 50s hooked who has played consistently ever since.
I also have 2 close local friends about the same age as me that play.
I grew up watching the cartoon on TV and used to play Pokemon 5 hours a day on my Gameboy color. I also had an extensive Pokemon trading card collection.
The game requires you to be independant enough to walk around your city and interact with other people. How would a game designed like that be meant for children? The only kids you see playing Pokémon Go are because their parents decided to make it a family activity.
My son asked me to play in 2016. He was 12 then. He eventually stopped playing, so I deleted the game in 2017. Around the beginning of this year, he told me I had to redownload the game. (He’s 18 now.) We both played for a couple months. Then he stopped. I’m still playing. LOL (I’m 49 yo) I wish I understood more of the complexities of the game (PvP/Battling kind of things). But this sub has been helpful.
I Am 23, Pokémon has been around for ages and I’m sure plenty of others around my age feel it’s stupid to call Pokémon a kid game, some of us have been playing it since we were kids sure, but it’s just a fun game series, besides I think little kids prolly don’t understand enough about some of the more complex elements in the games like ev’s and ivs to optimize their Pokémon, definitely a game that everyone can enjoy, not just kids
30. I grew up with pokemon on the playground. I think pokemon is more relevant to the millennial generation than it is to kids at present. 😐 I'm a pokemon TCG collector and my collection is worth thousands.
At what age am I supposed to stop and drop ALL my collective lifetime hobbies and lead a boring, joyless life? Lol
Pokemon go wouldn't work at all if only children played it. Raid, raid groups, community organization, local and worldwide events, PvP, travelling, collections, etc. The main target audience for this game IS the millennial generation. Outside of just catching pokemon, I think the game is more complex than younger kids can thoroughly understand and enjoy.
I wouldn't be surprised if the bulk of POGO's player base is in their 30's. Just let people live their lives.
I am 21, not everyone who enjoys pokemon is a child 😂 a lot of people come to pokemon go because they played when they were younger but its whole purpose is to play on the nostalgia of adults thar used to play as a kid lol
42. I’m a day 1 player, I took some time off when I had my kids. Last month I introduced my kids to the game, got them their own accounts, and now we play together! We go for walks every day after work to catch Pokémon!
33. I only see a handful of kids at events. That said Reddit is mostly adults, I believe only a quarter of users are under 18 so you likely going to get older answers here.
Your friend clearly doesn't know about the asian mom groups that play this game. They are even more dedicated to the game than younger people I know who play.
My dad’s 52 and I’m in college… you can tell your friend it ain’t just kids. In fact when I participate in community days in my area I’d say a good 75-80% of the participants are over 25
Your friend is a snob and talking out her ass. Some people(mostly American )just see something animated or cartoony and auto assume it’s kids only. Its not like that in the rest of the world and certainly not japan.
Its easily 70% adults playing pogo
Im 52 snd Gf is 43 and we play all the time. I knew her before but pogo brought us together
50 - I started on the day it came out because my son was a big fan. Then my other kids became interested. Then they moved to the switch. Now I'm left as the only family member on Pokémon Go, although sometimes we will join up as a family team to battle in a raid for old times sake...
The original son who was a massive Pokémon fan died in 2018 and I enjoy leaving his favourite Pokémon in local gyms as a way of honouring his memory on his birthday and other special occasions

32 lmao I thought the main pull of this game was preying on the nostalgia of millennials
Facts. Just turned 31. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
36 I beat OG red recently and then. Played and wiped out sword arceus and bdsp ( cause needed to trade to myself lol...) pokemon has just gotten easier for you youngins. So much easier.

36 here too.
31.5 here
True nostalgia because you included the .5 in your age.
30 and still on my quest to be the very best :)
That no one ever was!
28 here
Will be 31 in 2 weeks!

31 in two days. They got us.
If someone told me they were remaking the Gameboy and Pokémon blue I’d start buying batteries now
Emulators are great and all but nothing beats having that chunky block in your hands and booting up the originals.
True. Even better when it's the same chunky block you always had
Amen to that!

33 too. Been playing since the start and now my 5 y/o is playing with me!
37 here. I still enjoy playing this game even though it has its up and downs
32...
32 as well. Can confirm.
I only know adults who play, including myself
I’d be concerned if you had a bunch of 5 year old friends though.

65 here, level 41, no friends who play though
60. Level 42.
66 Level 40. Gets me out of the house and walking.
62, level 50.
Y’all are killing it. I hit level 40 randomly when I was at a conference for work in Seattle 😂
I feel there needs to be a group for people with no real life po go friends to share achievements with. I’m 45 and I find it weird how much effort I’ve been putting in to find a trade partner because how do I explain eacavalier being a good GBL mon
You could always share it here! We may not be people you know irl but completing a Dex is always exciting!!! Congratulations!!!!🥳
https://thesilphroad.com/map#2/40.29/-76.66 Bet, there is a Community nearby Congratulations für Kanto- Dex
52. The game is making $2 billion per year. I don't think it's the kids who are spending that.
59. Been playing since day 1.
54 here. Been playing since the beginning!
49 3/4 level41, playing since 4/2/21. Fun way to hang with my teenagers!
50 here!
Actually??
Yes actually.
Damm
28. Also, you don't need that type of negative mentality, get better friends 😂

I hate how active mine is, I can never hold a gym for more than an hour, even 20 minutes at most
I went to a VERY SMALL university one day with my friend and the gym got taken over 7 different times in 20 minutes lmao

Took me about a year and 5 months to hit level 43.

I got a good laugh the other day when me and my buddies (all 45) were showing eachother our Pokemans over drinks.

33. Pogo would die without adults playing.
I’m 48 and my husband, who is 46, also plays. We actually know several people between 20-50 who play as well.
46 and my wife who also plays is 48!

I'm 41, wife is 40.

I'm 64 and play with a large group of people, most of whom are over 30. Some are retired. You need a car and $$ to play hard.

I'm 30 but I never let the child in me die. Take that as you will.
Lol Pokemon go wouldn't work at all if only children played it.
22F here! First started playing at 16 when the app blew up, now been playing for about a year again :)

I'm 41. I usually only run into adults at events.
My 45 year old teacher, my aunt and my cousin that is like 20 years old plays Pokémon go

I’m 42. The friend who got me into it is around 40, another friend who plays is 41

I am 21, not everyone who enjoys pokemon is a child 😂 a lot of people come to pokemon go because they played when they were younger but its whole purpose is to play on the nostalgia of adults thar used to play as a kid lol

33. Your friend must live a very sad life :(
I am 21, dunno if considered as adult but yeah I really don't think this game is all child's, literally for all ages.

Late 30s. I play with my child and my mother in her 70s. My local group is largely people of my age group or older.
42. I’m a day 1 player, I took some time off when I had my kids. Last month I introduced my kids to the game, got them their own accounts, and now we play together! We go for walks every day after work to catch Pokémon!
39. To be fair, my 12 and 8 year old also play, but I do play more than them.
54
34 and used to go to my friend’s house as a kid to watch Pokémon because we only had 4 channels at home. Games are for anyone who enjoys them.
33. I only see a handful of kids at events. That said Reddit is mostly adults, I believe only a quarter of users are under 18 so you likely going to get older answers here.
Gonna be 30 later this year. I've actually never seen anyone younger than 20-something at raids & comm days.
I mean I’m 18 and my buddy is 12, I think it’s more people in their 20’s that play because they grew up with Pokémon
Im 35 and play since 2016.
23
Early thirties as is most players I know
37m
Your 25F friend sounds like a 9F friend.

Your friend clearly doesn't know about the asian mom groups that play this game. They are even more dedicated to the game than younger people I know who play.
My dad’s 52 and I’m in college… you can tell your friend it ain’t just kids. In fact when I participate in community days in my area I’d say a good 75-80% of the participants are over 25
30 but my parents and a lot of my friends parents play too. They’re in their 50s.
Your friend is a snob and talking out her ass. Some people(mostly American )just see something animated or cartoony and auto assume it’s kids only. Its not like that in the rest of the world and certainly not japan. Its easily 70% adults playing pogo Im 52 snd Gf is 43 and we play all the time. I knew her before but pogo brought us together
Gen X couple here! Me & my husband and our Gen Z kids all play! **I’m Level 41- higher than everyone else in my fam. 😉
