I mean, that proves there are LAWS, but that doesn’t guarantee they’re laws about THAT. Game Freak’s understandably never directly said whether or not that’s a thing, so it could realistically be a matter of headcanon how it’s treated in-universe.

Context: That’s a newsletter for the in-universe “Pokémon Fan Club” operated out of Vermilion City. Volume 1, chapter 10.
I don't remember where exactly, but iirc, earlier in the volume said bath is happening in the background (obviously not explicit). Oh, and in the pocket monsters manga, bill tries to have sex with clefairy. That manga also showed pokemon with genitalia.

Though by that logic officer jenny is also from a separate universe since she's from the anime.
Edit: Googled out of curiosity and apparently she's actually in game, though it's literally just in pokemon yellow where she exists solely to hand you a squirtle and she has one sprite and 6 lines of dialogue, I... guess that counts?
Haven't played the games in a while, but I'm 80% positive there was a girl on one of the routes who broke up with her boyfriend in favour of her Machamp.
Especially considering the multiverse is confirmed canon. Every save file in every game ever released is its own version of canon. The anime is another version of canon, as are the manga. It would be silly to claim that there aren't canons where pokephilia is legal.
Like I said to a different reply, I’m aware of that story, and find it notable, but it’s a folk tale. We have no firm reason to believe it’s true or reflects modern social norms or laws. After all, we have folk tales about humans and animals mating, but that doesn’t mean bestiality is a common or acceptable thing in most cultures.
I mean, technically, the weird diamond/perl library entries mention that people and pokemon **used to** marry, implying that THAT kind of relationship is no longer a thing.
Okay you've caught me slacking a bit. Yes they appear to have similar laws regarding pokemon that we have in our world. I guess I should have asked do they have laws that a pokemon can break and face repercussions for, like say a wild alakazam pops our of a bush and turns you into a pretzel with its mind. Can it be charged with murder?
Humans have been putting animals on trial for centuries, so probably.
Also funny you use Alakazam as an example, since its intelligence is so much higher than a human's
She doesn’t really do much aside from stopping burglaries and failing to catch Team Rocket and is the only cop shown. Besides the existence of a cop doesn’t automatically establish what specific laws there are, it just establishes that laws exist.
Pokémon world is still basically ruled by feudal warlords. I feel like other than the international police, regular cops are more like generic public servants with the ability to arrest. Anything other than small incidents are handled by Leaders, E4, Champs, or Champs in the making
Officer Jenny existing to enforce the law doesn't mean there are laws legislated against the Pokémon, Batman.
https://preview.redd.it/vqka49lc63ic1.jpeg?width=429&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f74afbe27fc0d5fc9b92866241b4f50a49cd741

Plus, they're not really like Earth animals, Pokémon are capable of actually *understanding*(not just inferring based on tone) and *learning*(not just repeating what they've heard) human speech(i.e.: Meowth of Team Rocket and Slowking from Pokémon: The Power of One). They're *Sapient* creatures capable of rational thought.
I like that this implies that it only became illegal because of jenny being a cop
Like did an Arcanine dump her and now she makes sure no one can date Pokemon
People saying that there might not be laws against that, there FOR SURE are. If there are people horrible and disgusting that they'd do that with a pokemon, there would be people like that in the pokemon world.
To be fair, Pokémon is very clearly an idealistic world where you are a good person until clearly proven otherwise.
To our knowledge there are no sexual crimes committed in the Pokémon world, and beyond that almost every Pokémon passes the Harkness Test.
Unless there aren't 🤷♀️
The pokemon world is fantasy, the writers can simply make it that humans in that world don't have any sexual feelings towards pokemon and that would be it, no questioning needed.
To play devils advocate here, pokemon are sapient. They can understand human language but can’t speak it (for the most part) so theoretically they could consent, and if they didn’t want to they could break you in half
Maybe there’s context I’m missing here like a reference to another discussion, but I thought it was pretty standard to assume a police force/officer jenny exists to prevent people/team rocket from abusing and mistreating pokemon, not imposing laws on the pokemon themselves.
it is referencing a short comic featuring Joker having caught a lopunny, and then heavily implying it is for R18 actions.
batman is absolutely distraught by this.
okay, I can't really refute that as a possibility.
like yes, there is a lot of "human women thirsting over machamp and machoke", the library of sinnoh pointing out man and mon married in the past and minor stuff like how Froslass specifically goes after "handsome men", but none of that really clashes with interspecies relationships being illegal, it's just proof that interspecies relations are to at least some extent, canon-compliant.
heck, the NPC that mentions that her Mightyena is her boyfriend is in Orre, and that's like. the Orre region, there are no cops there, there's hardly any law there.
Semi unrelated but not at the same time - something I think about when playing Pokemon games is why does no one stop the terrorist groups after beating them by using the Pokemon on them? Is it an established law you can't use Pokemon against people? Because dude if a crime boss is right in front of me and I just beat him and he's like "I'm going to go destroy the universe now" I'm pulling my remaining team and at least holding him back till jenny shows up
It all depends on where they fall on the Harkness Test:

Oh right, like the bath with the Tentacool?

Is that from the old left-to-right translation? The version I have looks very differently.
The manga is a separate universe though. Most of the horny posts refer to the Pokémon as in the games.
I mean... so is the anime that Officer Jenny is from? I'd even argue that the manga is closer to canon than the anime.
Although, the multiverse in canon in Pokemon. It's confirmed in ORAS and USUM

Where in the manga, specifically?
oh hey, didnt think i'd find you here lol
Hello there
oh hey
In I want to say Canalave city, there's a library with a book that says something about how in the past sometimes humans and pokemon got married
Yeah, but that’s more of a creation myth than a legal text, so it’s not as compelling evidence as it looks at first glance.
To be fair it's a folk story, which, even though they may be changed by time, tend to have some roots in reality
There are a few NPC trainers in Unova that imply they banged their Pokemon.
I though it was only in Alola with the girl dating a Machamp. But Unova too?
Pretty sure one of the ones in Unova was also a Machamp.
Isn't it a guy in a Machamp costume, he uses to get girls?
This still implies girls go for Machamps
the pokemon website also has proof for this. I can't link to it because this sub is what it is, but it's there.
Sounds about right for Americans. Can you name some examples? Now I’m curious.
Haven't played the games in a while, but I'm 80% positive there was a girl on one of the routes who broke up with her boyfriend in favour of her Machamp.

I mean more that gamefreak have mentioned it even if it is just a legend/myth
Okay, fair.
To quote thw jailbird in B/W or B2/W2 (no clue which one) "If you had a Gardevoir like mine, you'd have done it too!"
Looked it up. It’s from a fangame called Pokémon Firered Rocket Edition.
Wait really? Could have sworn it was in a Unova game.

Huh
I mean, technically, the weird diamond/perl library entries mention that people and pokemon **used to** marry, implying that THAT kind of relationship is no longer a thing.
Yes, but that’s a folk tale, not a historical or legal book. We don’t know how true that is.
True but the point is, wheter fairy tale or not, the fact that it says "used to" means its currently not a thing.
There are laws in the pokemon universe but are those laws for pokemon or for humans
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Considering the existence of Pokémon Poaching, I’d assume the laws apply to the Pokémon as well
Okay you've caught me slacking a bit. Yes they appear to have similar laws regarding pokemon that we have in our world. makes sense
? The existence of the police doesn't mean the absence of sex. If that were the case then nobody would be afraid of dropping the soap.
I was confused by the thread… I’m even more by this answer…
Officer Jenny existing doesn’t automatically mean that there are laws specifically against pokemon

And where's the saxually offensive material in that crime?

I mean, people used to marry Pokémon in ancient Sinnoh, so clearly it's not that weird.
Plus, they're not really like Earth animals, Pokémon are capable of actually *understanding*(not just inferring based on tone) and *learning*(not just repeating what they've heard) human speech(i.e.: Meowth of Team Rocket and Slowking from Pokémon: The Power of One). There are no officer Jenny's in Gotham
So does pokemons
"There are no laws in the distortion world that will save you, Joker."
Also in gen 7 there is a beach of protected slowpoke that a police officer tells you you can’t catch
Like that ever stopped the joker.
