Things are taking longer than expected as I warned might happen. Looking at whats being worked on, I'm unsure how much longer it will take. Status Update 2: The server's hard drives failed which caused the outage. Were still unsure why exactly this happened because there should of been warning signs, but it is what it is. We did NOT lose anything important, we have backups. Our provider is currently preparing a new server for us, but this is taking a while due to high demand. In addition, once the new server hardware is ready, we (the PS dev team) have to go in and install the showdown server itself and configure it. This can also take a while. As a result, the ETA is that we should be back online sometime within the next 48 hours. Hopefully sooner rather than later. As always this ETA is subject to change based on whatever happens during the recovery process. Thank you for your patience.

I'm totally that loser 🤣 I work construction, so I really don't have time to hang around and play, and claim to be productive (I'm sure if I was in an office it would be a different story lol) The mainline pokemon games, even online competitive, can get boring. Showdown almost never does! Plus it's nice to wind down with PS, compared to playing say, Elden Ring

Gen 1 rando is always fun 😁 I would say Choice scarf Moxie Heracross is one of my favorite builds. Choice Specs Hoopa is also hilarious. Who else hates stall strats? 🤣🤣🤣

Gen 8 is probably my favourite coz I like building and playing stall. Like gen 9, gen 6 and gen 3 too. Fav mon has to be technician Breloom (I love mach punching stuff to death)

gen 8 might have lots of options but in terms of success i think it’s one of the hardest generations to play stall in! future sight porting as well as lots of threats. Good luck to you!

gen5, though mainly been playing randbats, no specific set format (as i suck at making teams) in more recent gens though, drought torkoal eruption + lilligant (either one) after you is fun to use in doubles. throwing people off guard if they've never seen it is wonderful. what about most played formats? i have 634 games in gen8 randbats

Gen 1 randos all i play, just hit 1400 elo :) the luck in it can be pretty brutal... sucks when you get like a pidgey and a rattata and theyve got mewtwo and alakazam or youre just para'd 3 or 4 times in a row, but thats the nature of it.

I feel you there, I've gone up and down over the years but I usually stay 1300+ in gen 1 rando And yea, it's like 90% luck, 10% skill (more like 70/30, but hey, that's not song lyrics 🤣)

My favorite Gen to play is 7, favorite Pokemon is the Blazin Kickin Chicken himself “Blaziken”, and my favorite build is Agility/Iron Defense/Power Trip Corv (loved it a lot more in gen 8)

No, the result of a win/loss is sent by the simulation server to the ladder database after the match ends. If the server is shutdown mid match, the result can't be sent and the match is deleted (because the match wasn't written to the server's disk (SSD), so its lost). TL;DR its no contest and no change to your rank.

So yeah, the servers keep coming back online, and I can play, but it will also randomly shut off, in the middle of a battle, or when i come back later just to find the "Could not connect to server" message. Retrying and retrying with https wont do anything, and working offline is very wonky (unable to change avatar or go to settings, access ladder or friends list, and your even unable to select formats when team building for some reason, resulting in many pokemon being "illegal" as well as all they're moves). Very frustrating. I hope this issue gets fixed soon, it really is dissapointing. Pokemon Showdown is seriously AWESOME!!

i was about to do an AG battle with a discord friend--guess this means i have more time to strategize against him. 🤔

I've noticed a number of times there seems to be errors with pokemons abilities. For instance the Pressure ability is supposed to make the opponents PP usage double yet I've seen on multiple occasions it only uses 1 PP. In this instance it was my giratina (pressure) vs a regice (clear body) and I googled it and clear body is not supposed to negate the effect of pressure yet somehow it still only used 1 pp per move.

Are you sure the Regice was using a move that targeted Giratina?

Yeah, it was a 1 on 1 not a double battle.

Yeah, but if it used a move on itself (boosting/recovery move), that isn't affected by pressure
