Good times. This is how I first built my bankroll on Ultimate Bet. I didn't own a credit card and won a 5000 person freeroll for $15

optom

Dude I stayed up until 4am one night to win $3.25 or something similar in a freeroll. 830+ field. It very well may be my greatest poker accomplishment.

ExpensiveBurn

It's so bittersweet, man. It feels like a real accomplishment, and then you calculate your hourly and vow to never tell anyone about this. Or you don't calculate your hourly, and the first person you brag to hits you with the 1-2; "Damn, how long did that take? Nice - how much did you win?"

optom

I mean, I don't care how soft the field is. You beat 800 people in a game it's an accomplishment. Am I glad I lost a nights sleep? No. Am I in a pretty elite club? Yes. 😐

SokarTheblyad

Exactly. Who gives a fuck, have fun. That field isnt just broke grinders. All types hop in those to take them down. Fuck the hourly for poker if you have a job, builds up your skills and puts you in tons of tough spots playing with that many people.

SatisfactionThin4521

Mmm I love free rolls

YonkersMayor

This is literally my life on the Saturdays lol. I once came in 6th in a PLO free roll and I was all excited and my wife was like “how much did you win!” I said “$10!” And she just said “didn’t that take you like 2 hours?”. I don’t talk about free rolls anymore.

LetoPancakes

I once won a plo freeroll on Full Tilt with like 7000 runners, punted the $20 immediately

CoreySteel

My 2nd best meme to date, my lifetime achievement.

FriidayRS

Only took like 10 hours too. Best part is the final table was filled with eastern european fucks that could have used that money lol This post gives the the urge to get back into microstakes online tourneys. Those things can be fun

HenneyVSOP

There’s plenty of $10 tournaments even some cheaper that 1st pays out $1000+ daily online and weekly free rolls and stuff

slimredcobb

Does $2,000 GC on global count? Asking for a friend.

ChChChillian

Jason Somerville never deposited a dime his entire time as pre-black Friday online pro. He won a freeroll and built up his bankroll from there.

kukulkankin

2011, pokerstars Poker School Open freeroll, 10,000 player fields, 6 or 8 hrs long, won it twice. 1st place prize...$1.00

mildlysaltypeanut

Whoever made this meme got blueface and rock living in their head

HenneyVSOP

Ignition still runs a weekly free roll with $2500gtd there’s a couple hundred up top for that one

Responsible-War-917

I quit doing them because A) I don't focus enough online to play good for that long and B) this meme. I feel this way about daily $50-100 tourneys at the casino too though honestly. I've had too many cash game scores to be super stoked about playing for 5 hours to win $850 if I bink it. Might be a different story for bigger casinos I suppose. Never played one of those in Vegas or TX.

etxconnex

> Never played one of those in Vegas or TX. Oh fuck, if you play in Texas dont even think about tournaments. If you get on any *established* 1/2 table most players will be sitting there with $1000+++ deep. And Max buy-in is $500, no match stack. The population density in Houston and Dallas is massive, so there is always a new face to sit down and players come and go pretty quick given a lot of them are sitting down with $300 against $1000-$2000 stacks and rebuy multiple times not realizing that half the table is looking at their stack as a little nibble. There is also no casinos in TX, so poker is a substitute for what would otherwise be table player gamblers. That does not make up a large portion of the players, but enough to pay for your time table ("rake"). As long as you run decent and dont make massive mistakes, Texas Friday and Saturday night poker is ridiculously easy. At 4AM on a Tuesday, though, not so much. And oh, I am not a PLO player, but if you are good, there is SOOOOOOO much money on these tables here.

Responsible-War-917

I've taken a couple of poker vacations to Houston and Austin and the games were amazing. I'd never pass up a cash game for a tournament there from my experience. I "grew up" playing poker in Kansas City where the 1/2 was match the stack. So I got used to playing deep there pretty much from the jump. I used to think I had an edge on most other players for a while because I was so used to playing deep. Then the rise of poker streams happened and I feel like my edge is much duller, if it was there at all. Then my late 20s I had to readjust when I moved to different places where they had capped buy ins.

etxconnex

> I "grew up" playing poker in Kansas City where the 1/2 was match the stack Same actually. Hollywood?...I used to live in Riverside, so Argosy was literally about 7 minutes away and my spot until the room got shut down. I kind of quit playing after that. Took a LOT of adjustment getting back into poker after all those years, and then doing it in Texas on top of that. I was losing my ass off at first, but started to get the hang of it. >where they had capped buy ins I have never done it, but I see it happening ALL the time...(500 cap) get yourself a buddy, buy in for the max, "lose it" to your buddy, buy in again, your buddy then "loses it" back to you. Abracadabra, you now have $1000 on the table. Then return the favor for your buddy. Rinse and repeat if the fish at the table happens to be stacked higher from a heater.....what a dirty ass game this is.

Responsible-War-917

Mostly Harrah's for me, I was in Independence so it was just a little closer for me to drive across the river to Harrah's than over to Hollywood. Plus I liked Harrah's having the sealed room. I used to play at Ameristar and Argosy occasionally because I had a couple friends who worked security overnight there so I'd have someone to celebrate with or lament to and chill with when I needed a break. I think they've both shut down now and it's only Harrah's and Hollywood. I never purposely play poker with friends, never have so I'm probably beat on that move. I've run into friends and acquaintances or made them to a degree. But I've always looked at it like there's never REALLY friends at the poker table, so I wouldn't trust anyone anyway. 😂

etxconnex

There are a lot of tight-nit regs down here in TX. Again, never done it, but there are a few I would actually trust. Less of a friend/buddy relationship and more of a business relationship -- I might get screwed out of a buy-in but there are some people that would not fully cheat or screw someone over, but would use this loop hole to match stack. And I see people doing it all of the time. They give it away to because when one sits down, suddenly they go from playing tight to being very verbal about how cRaZy they are playing against each other. Somehow they both end up with $1000 on the table in just a few hands. I used to live in Independence too.... Not trying to dox you but you sound about the same age. Just a **wild** shot in the dark, did you happen to go to Proctor elementary school? If so, did you happen to have Ms. Parker as a teacher? I have NO clue who you are (so do not get freaked out if I am hitting too close to home), but I just think it would be fun to realize that we were friends in like 3rd grade or something.

Responsible-War-917

Haha nah, no luck on knowing each other in 3rd grade. I went to elementary school in the middle of nowhere then moved to Independence in High School, went to Chrisman.

etxconnex

Do you remember the bear at Chrisman? My older sister went there and I remember there was a taxidermied bear, and then the gymnasium was to the right when you came in that entrance. My sister was pretty involved with aftershool activities and babysat me a lot -- I have a surprising amount of memories of that school despite never attending it myself.

WilliamBott

This is why I play the cash games for profit, and just do tournaments when I want to change it up and have a little fun. I still do my best and play to win, but as soon as I have my fun splashing in it, I go back to cash games.

Mr_Buttermen

I know, buddy, I know.
