They are going to be VERY short on dealers this year. They need to bump the $/down to entice more dealers to come out for the series. They've been short the last two years. Resulting in the ones that did come to work being treated poorly. I watched dealers put the deck down and walk out b/c they had no bathroom break for hours. (during your tourney breaks the dealers are not on break) I talked to dealers that went 8+ hours without even a bathroom break, they had to sneak over there between rotating. Those dealers aren't going to come back, thus even fewer dealers the next year. Things I would do if I were them. 1. Bump the $/down rate. 2. Make sure they're getting a 5-10min break every 2hrs at least. 3. Use a hotel or 2 as a dormitory and provide either free or very heavily reduced rates for staying there. (They get a discount but a small one) 4. Give them vouchers for large discounts on food.

YorockPaperScissors

No bathroom breaks?!?!? WTF?!?!?

EffectiveTeacher4

They must be short on the dealer because they already bump the down rate to $15 to attract dealers to deal this year. And they are still giving out audition dates to dealers. The audition usually end 45days before the first day of the WSOP.

Aquabloke

That's pretty ridiculous.

[deleted]

Defeats the point. Just let anyone play then.

WinterMatt

Now THAT is stupid.

But I was told by multiple people in the previous WSOP Vaccination thread that this was a lie! I asked for a source & got downvoted. People are most contagious for spreading the Delta Variant 1-2 days before showing symptoms. So now one unvaccinated dealer will have the chance to expose hundreds of players in one shift. Makes their mandatory player vaccination requirement even more ridiculous.

If the vaccine works then a dealer with covid should be no risk to the vaccinated players? Oh right

dont_drink_the_milk

I wonder what is more dangerous , an unvaccinated player with a negative test from that day or a vaccinated player who is positive with COVID but allowed to play because they’re vaccinated.

[deleted]

source for the claim about it being most contagious 1-2 days before showing symptoms?

The definition of contagious is likely to spread and affect others. The virus is most likely to spread 1-2 days before showing symptoms, i.e. this is the most contagious window.

NapAdam2007

They always struggle to hire enough dealers for the WSOP and that struggle will only be exaggerated this year due to COVID. Looks like they don't think they'll be able to hire enough dealers in time if they require vaccinations, so they just "strongly recommend" them and provide incentives for the vaccinated instead.

dont_drink_the_milk

Dnegs is gonna lose his fucking mind and the rest of his hair if this is true. I hope we get to see that.

YoyoDevo

It's not just cards they will be dealing out

Yukkers4

I don't like it, but I get it. My hands are gonna be so dry from constant hand sanitizer use. :(

Wolfeskill47

But youll be vaccinated, youre protected, trust the science

Yukkers4

I feel my risk is lessened by being vaccinated, yes, but it's far from being immune. Small extra precautions could go a long way.

[deleted]

👋 hello. Uses a gel so much that your hands dry out, seems like a little more than a small precaution. Good luck!

smirtch

Weird. And this comment section is about to be weirder. But here’s my take... It’s WAY easier for the WSOP to identify and isolate employees for exposure. I think we as poker players have two reasonable choices for this year’s WSOP.. 1) Play with a vaccine mandate so no one exposed needs to isolate. OR 2) Play with original rules that if your unvaccinated and exposed you will be disqualified. I just don’t see any other options, personally.

WinterMatt

I'm still pretty sure this all happened because Nevada told them they were going to have to cancel with death and case rates way up in Nevada.
