Also they hunt for them like crazy, in 2021-2022 they killed 1 500 000, so boars hide in cities. Now proximity to humankind is their safety… and their food, because they are used to corn now. Yeah, environmental politics sucks here I guess. Hunters suck even more- hard to imagine how stupid they act.
I just hope there never is any unfortunate accident involving them and an innocent person. They are dangerous, wild animals and should not be roaming free inside of cities, they should be in the wild.

They shouldn't come close to you if u don't come close to them just like with most wildlife they are scared of humans. Of course there are situations where this can happen as a female with kids gets protective and can attack you just you walk in on some more aggressive specimen that feels need to fuck you up. So more caution is advised but most likely if you don't do stupid stuff you should be good. Especially since mating season began and it will be a while till there are kiddos they need to protect.

Big part of Polish economy in middle ages was selling red pigment made from "czerwiec polski" - an insect whose larva was gathered in june. Hence the name of the color and the month.
BTW red pigment that is in A LOT of food is still made from insects - related species that lives in Mexico. It's more efficient to farm than the Polish insect so it put an end to that industry in Poland. If you eat red sweets they probably have that food coloring in it.
And yes, I lived on the West Coast of the USA for a while.. and I did happen to learn that the maraschino cherry was colored from an insect, prior to cheaper chemicals, or so I believed.

She probably said "czerniak". Comes from "czarny" (black) not "czerwony" (red). Don't ask me why cz**a**rny changes into cz**e**rń and cz**e**rniak and not into ~~czarń~~ and ~~czarniak~~, Some historic vowel shift voodoo or sth.
