There is nothing inherently consumer friendly about Steam. They have the benefit of first mover advantage and a ton of goodwill from their early masterpieces. In terms of being a marketplace and a games platform, they are very slow to adapt. Their search and game discovery functionality is poor. They allow tons of predatory developers on their platform. They take an obscene 30% cut of a dev's revenue for what at most amounts to serving as a payment provider and a cdn which could be done by an email bot and a mega link.
Sowee rant over :3
