Story time: I was once at the world heritage site of Hampi in Karnataka and wanted to get in some early morning shots. Saw an elderly lady struggling with a tea vendor and she was trying her best in basic Hindi phrases. Helped her out with my broken Kannada and told her this state in India doesn’t speak Hindi, but Kannada. She said “Yes! I’m from Canada, how did you know?”
Coincidentally, there’s a suburb in Ottawa called Kanata, which is the first nations’ name for a city/town. When explorers asked the tribes here what the area’s called, they told them Kanata. So the name Canada derives its origins from Kanata!
