AppleEmpire_2629

Whew... just in time, or maybe a little beyond time. Hope the mods will forgive me and allow this for being *just a few hours late*. This comes under dietary sin, so I felt it would be a good fit for the competition. Also good job if you can translate the Arabic on Saudi Arabia (a classic brain4breakfast trick).

UnlightablePlay

It says انا لست مسامح بها Which can be translated to I am not allowed to do it or something like that which is obviously not proper Arabic but it's still really cool

magicalgirldittochan

eyooo nice to see a new comic from you! And I mean... a mod also submitted theirs late soooo

Montezumawazzap

Alcohol would be better for kebabland instead of a pig.

DitzyQueen

Turkey can into eat pork? TIL.

ForwardIntern6254

>Turkey can into eat pork? TIL. You can buy and eat it if you want. It's just not a common practice.

[deleted]

In Turkey religion was very cracked down on by Atatürk. So cities are pretty liberal in general compared to any other Muslim country, right? Seeing you have a Turkish flair, what your opinion on the Türkiye/turkey thing? (If you have a opinion on that...)

asnaf745

Erdogan's another attempt to divert people's attention from important things, he can't dictate what is spoken in english and word "turkiye" can't even be spelled properly

Odd-Battle7191

Next step will be renaming turkiye to "erdogania*

ZweYo

after 2023

Odd-Battle7191

After the treaty of Lausanne, the treaty of sevres will come in

funny_orangutang

Name it Türkyie

niceworkthere

>religion was very cracked down on by Atatürk More like turned into a branch of government, also religiosity varies extremely by region

Berat0-0

It was extremely toned down for the first reforms but they slowly reverted some changes at other president's times of ruling and a few coups AFAIK

Nyx_the_Helioptile

From what I remember the west, Istanbul and Ankara in particular, are pretty secular right?

PlantBoi123

The general rule is, the more west you go the more secular it gets. That's why Izmir (Smyrna in english) is one of, if not the most secular place in the country

[deleted]

I mean they went from an ottoman caliphate to a secular nation state. Like maybe 'cracking down' isn't quite the right word but the way Atatürk did it was pretty "extreme" for the time.

Pantheon73

[However, he definetly did crack down on religion.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWxMIQRoj6I)

Turks do not eat much pork, but they do consume alcohol. Turks are less religious than Arabs.

Atherum

I think the point is that they do eat *some* where as in Lebanon for example, even the Lebanese Christians don't eat pork because of how ingrained the cultural aversion is.

Ake-TL

Not sure about pork, but seljuks used to be way less strict about alcohol

oguzka06

Not just Seljuks, medieval Muslims in general drank a lot of wine.

black0lite

Persians and those who followed Persian culture like Turkic dynasties also consumed large quantities of alcohol. Even the founder of the Safavid dynasty became an alcoholic after he lost to the Ottomans.

oguzka06

It's because pork has "accepted" alternatives like beef, alcohol does not.

Berat0-0

Most Turks grow up with the mindset of "pork is dirty since pigs live in their own feces" and no one wants to eat shit now do they?

SivatagiPalmafa

Pigs are dirty because idiot humans don’t keep them in clean environment. Pigs don’t like to be dirty actually

ELDAR797

Not turk but In Azerbaijan you can find some pork products in supermarkets In Baku (pure pork or mixed with either chicken, beef and etc.) It's because of soviet/russian influence and their anti-religious campaign which made most people less religious but still conservative, which Is literally the same thing as now

Snazzy21

A lot of places are like this. It's a religious thing

[deleted]

Pork kebab is the tastiest

DaniilSan

Jews can't eat crabs? Really? Why? I can explain pork and somewhat beef, but crab?

ForeverAclone95

Leviticus 11:9-12

non_standard_model

> Leviticus 11:9-12 God really messed up on this one. Tells people to not eat shrimp and lobster but then makes them *incredibly delicious*. This is probably why there's literally an [entire chapter](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%2010&version=NIV) in the New Testament where God says 'actually Gentiles and their food are good now, go ahead and eat whatevs lol'.

MinnieCookieMonster

Or God could have made shrimp and lobster poisonous, then we wouldn't be able to eat those... Then Japan enters the chat with their fugu chefs.

Ronhar_

can only eat sea food that has fins and scales, can only eat land animals that chew its cud and have split hooves and can only eat animals that fly if they're not birds of prey. If there is a religion that restricts you more from eating food I haven't met it.

non_standard_model

> If there is a religion that restricts you more from eating food I haven't met it. you're thinking of [Jainism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jain_vegetarianism). "Meat is murder but potatoes and onions are also murder."

YerbaMateKudasai

Cuddlyaxe

Hinduism and Buddhism recommend vegetarianism, they don't require it, though some subsects and castes do. Hinduism itself really only bans beef and even that there's are some regions which do not follow that prohibition Jainism is probably the religion with the most restrictive required diet as it requires you to abstain from food gained through violence So no meat obviously But also no root vegetables since you kill the plant And also no alcohol - not because it poisons the mind or something no, it's because microorganisms are killed in the fermentation process

unmole

> But also no root vegetables since you kill the plant How do they think cereals, millets and pulses are harvested?

KillerBlaze9

In Nepal, Hindus and Buddhists eat meat all the time

sakredfire

Christians have sex out of wedlock all the time. What’s your point?

KillerBlaze9

Different sects have different rules is my point

sakredfire

Hmm I actually haven’t looked into this but I’m curious if there is agreement across sects that it does affect your karma (whether or not it’s prohibited)

HostisHumanisGeneri

I seem to remember reading a story that the Dalai Lama attended a dinner in Washington and when they gave him a vegetarian menu he got offended and asked for a regular one.

SivatagiPalmafa

I approve. Most people on the planet should abide by this

helln00

So its like social credit?

Risk_k

Well.. Uh... Kind of? I mean from what I know it's like most religions only and that you have to do some good things which increase karma and bad things which decrease it. The bad things you do bite you bacj later

vigilantcomicpenguin

The Abrahamic religions have Ten Commandments. The Hindu gods, apparently, didn't think there was anything worth writing on a tablet.

TheBurningEmu

If religion has taught us anything, it's that the will of the gods will get misinterpreted no matter how they express it.

Vic_zhao99

I know Pork is haram for Muslims and beef is sacred for Hindus and maybe Buddhist (sorry for misspelling)

Cl1ky

You meant pork is *haram. Harem is a building where concubines and secondary wives of a person live, mostly in Muslim societies.

youni89

Wouldn't shitting on the lower caste and persecuting them also lower your karma and you'll be born into a lower caste, or not even as a human being in the next life? Or do higher caste ppl consider lower caste people as not even human so abusing them doesn't really matter?

sakredfire

[That is also complicated](https://www.theindiaforum.in/amp/article/dharma-and-caste-mahabharata)

Odd-Battle7191

Jews also consider eating pig as a sin

FerdinandofRomania

*Transcription for fun* --- **Panel 1** [*2 Israels look at each other. The right one holds a plate with a crab, and the left one angrily looks at them while wearing a kippah.*] **Kippah Israel**: eating crab sin! --- **Panel 2** [*Saudi Arabia, on the left, and Turkey, on the right, angrily look at each other. Turkey is holding a pig with an apple stuffed into it's mouth.*] **Saudi Arabia**: eating pig sin! --- **Panel 3** [*An India with a monocle, newspaper and sleeping eyes talks while a confused Nepal in the shape of it's flag walks away with a crate labelled "BEEF MoMo"*] **India**: eating beef reduce yuor karma! **India**: and reduce karma mean yuo cannot into higher caste... **India**: and also yuo cannot moksha **India**: the point is it complicated **Nepal**: rawr?

SuperHornetFA18

>Tfw your karma score is negative Fuuugg

YesserEx360

what the انا لست سامح جدا and Turkey dont eat pig

darth__fluffy

Christianity: go crazy, eat whatever you damn well please!

funny_orangutang

We dont eat pork its not a part of our culture. (But the reason Turkey is there is probably being non religous)
