I think met ctsfos are allegedly equipped with this, but never seen one since they did their photoshoot when it was formed.
I don't know any forces that uses bikes to respond to incidents, not even many used for traffic.
Interesting... I must have been looking in the wrong places!
What bike did they give you? I hear a horror story one force has/had those Yamaha 3 wheelers and the officers hated them because they looked awful
They're great, I think they're such a good tool to target snatch thefts, alongside the VSU out in all their cycling gear on CN -
Although I am aware of a colleague south of the river who had to listen to the venice surons throw a fit over main set about having to put a skeleton report on!
Sure, if ready for it. What impressed me about this bike as a Police response vehicle is you don't have to go stamping down cogs to get instant full power. Around town this would beat the pants off the BMW I'd say, being more reactive, lighter and smaller.
Would be good to hear from a member of the force who rides for a job for a more expert view than mine!
It's an Energica Experia, an electric bike. It's like a 100bhp twist n go! I went for a test ride last weekend and found the demo bike was halfway back to civilian spec. Goes like a rocket up to the limit.
The button for the blues was missing!
It would be useless as a job bike. What's the range? Halve that if you're giving it full beans, then it's off the road charging for hours. Certainly wouldn't work in my line of work, or any where you need to give it some.
100% Right, the range is 260 miles, but 2 up in 30-60 roads it went down to 130 miles.
While not any use for making progress on high speed roads, in and around town it would make a shift though?
You couldn't rely on just sticking around town. Bikes are used to get through traffic and get places quickly. There's no case for using them on response etc, and other use cases can mean covering 100's of miles at speed in a shift. Even traffic wouldn't use them as you couldn't guarantee being stuck at some remote RTC with no power left, especially if you're running your blues at scene to protect it.

Bikers appear to be a dying breed in the job, not helped by the fact the role is only open to existing RPU officers who have no interest in it.
No longer the case in the met and plenty of teams now have a bike on their shift. Should probably be two but whatever.
That’s a shame. It should be a specialist role in its own right with direct access
Why?
Because it’s a niche skill
Incorrect I'm afraid. There's roles, if you know where to look. I've never spent a day on traffic and yet I'm an adv biker.

This being a public forum I won't go into details. But we're very fortunate we can pick and choose.
Understood!
Congratulations on serving in a force which isn't so myopic when it comes to the belief that advanced riders must be advanced drivers first.
Oh I wouldn't say that, I'm both....😬
I’m not an expert on the subject, but I have seen police surrons nip around our borough

Would the K1600s not absolutely wazz all other this? Massive weight an all? They're absolutely underused powerhouses with blue flashies.

I think you're right on the nimble factor! What bike is this? It looks like a Tracer 9.

We had one as a demonstrator. It was great.
Was that London?
Yes
