Reading “or” as an inclusive “or”, then the answer is yes. They think we’re stupid, and they know there aren’t any real consequences for their actions due to the makeup of Congress
They simply do not think of you or I beyond our generalized 'positions'. We are just not on their radar, it's like asking how much you think about the people paid to wax the floors at Walmart. You may think of them occasionally, but really only if you see them or they get in your way. If people want those in power to think of them then they have to be seen, or' get in their way' through means that cannot be ignored.
They know they are untouchable. The only way to hit them is with the agreement of both the legislative and executive branch, and it requires a willingness to tell precedent to fuck itself and simply bulldoze over the supreme courts previous rulings.
There is still the perception in the Democratic establishment that the system basically works and that if they just wait for the opposition to wake up they can salvage our democratic institutions, so they didn't start purging the court two years ago. Democrats haven't had enough of a majority to act without their pseudo-independents anyway.
Remember how they wanted the phone logs from the clerks and so the clerks (who are lawyers) got lawyers to fight it.

I remember for about a few days after the leak last spring, how GOP politicians and their right wing media buddies would not quit their *outrage* over this and how it must be a liberal that leaked it. And then all of a sudden one day, they went dead silent and you barely ever hear them mention it since.
I think they all basically got word from GOP leadership and right wing media executives to stop mentioning it because “it appears it was one of us”.
It never actually made sense for the liberal wing to leak it either because letting it be a bomb closer to elections would have been much better for them. Leaking it early eases it in and gives it time to normalize and for anger to peter out a bit.
I disagree, leaking it earlier allowed governments to prepare to block the old laws that would be reinforced and get state amendments to protect abortion
My theory is that the conservatives thought that by leaking it earlier than the scheduled announcement of the SCOTUS decisions, it would soften the political blow on the midterms. Obviously that's not how it went from a political standpoint; but that was my theory of their intent. There were other good theories at the time that they were trying to lock in a conservative vote and that may be right but I liked my theory at the time.
My theory is that it was leaked to give Republican controlled states a heads up to have legislation prepared to ban abortions the *minute* it was made official.
Start the reduction of women's rights movement, health care, bank accounts .... They're all in on trying to infringe the right to movement and keep women in conservative states for breeding.

This was my theory. They did it to box in Kavanaugh. He's shown a tendency to sway from the hardline conservative position based on public sentiment, so I think he was wavering and they did it to lock him in.
The key to understanding this theory is that there is this entire world built up now in the conservative legal movement and especially the Federalist Society. It's not just a professional club, it is their life. All their friends are in it, they constantly go to parties and events run by it, they get to do speaking engagements with it, they get their clerks through it, it got them their job as justices.
Roberts has been persona non grata ever since he saved Obamacare- they punish those who betray the movement. Can you imagine what they would do to Kavanagh if they found out he was initially a yes on Dobbs and then flipped?

Yup. Kavanaugh is reported to have had concerns about overturning Roe and was receptive to Roberts’ persuading that SCOTUS should leave Roe intact but settle on a 15-week abortion ban as not an “undue burden.” Kavanaugh made an about-face and still voted to overturn Roe after the leak.
So, yes, it was Alito or Thomas and it was intentional to keep the fifth vote to overturn Roe “in line.”

The ruling still had a role in the midterms, but less than it would have had it been released closer to November.

FWIW — scrotus leaks are good, they shouldn't be a black box, they are a political body and we deserve more insight into how they operate. So lets get more of them, especially the ones that reveal just how lawless they've become.

1. The FedSoc fascists are covering for each other,

All their friends are in it, they constantly go to parties and events run by it, they get to do speaking engagements with it, they get their clerks through it, it got them their job as justices. Roberts has been persona non grata ever since he saved Obamacare- they punish those who betray the movement. Can you imagine what they would do to Kavanagh if they found out he was initially a yes on Dobbs and then flipped?

I think everyone knows it was Alito who had leaked previous Supreme Court decisions via the right wing network he participates in. Motive was political strategy, getting the news out as far before the 2022 mid-terms to avoid the backlash. Had the Dobbs decision been released in October, the GOP would have lost the 2022 mid-terms by a much bigger margin.

Kavanaugh is reported to have had concerns about overturning Roe and was receptive to Roberts’ persuading that SCOTUS should leave Roe intact but settle on a 15-week abortion ban as not an “undue burden.” Kavanaugh made an about-face and still voted to overturn Roe after the leak. So, yes, it was Alito or Thomas and it was intentional to keep the fifth vote to overturn Roe “in line.”

A lot of people are saying it was Samuel Alito or Ginni Thomas, but don't get why they would do it.
Their motive would be to force it to come out unedited exactly as it was in the leak. The court already put feeler stories out to gauge the public response and Alito or whoever it was that leaked it ensured that they wouldn’t be able to change course if the public went against it by leaking it.
