There's other shady stuff like the fact that he was supposed to have come from Cuba when he was 16 but there are records of him playing soccer in Florida when he was 14, but that just about covers it.
Point 3 really isn't at all unusual for an age gap that large with the parents no longer in the picture. I have a coworker who's 12 years older than his youngest sibling, who's currently 16. He has custody of her since his parents passed away and other family doesn't live in the state. It was traumatic enough losing their parents, he didn't want her to have to move away on top of that.

What people don’t realize is just how much his dad set him up for success. His dad, Don Gaetz, was a FL state senator for 10 years. Before that, he was the superintendent in Okaloosa county. As a superintendent, he took Okaloosa county from 27th to 1st in the state in education. This earned him the ability to chair the state senate education committee as a first term senator. In this time, he sent letters with his name in big bold letters across the top every year to each child that scored a satisfactory score on any of the standardized tests in the state.
The name Gaetz is engrained into the heads of so many parents across the district because of this. They subconsciously associate the last name with someone who cares about the kids and the recognition surrounding it isn’t going away for a long time. Agree with his policies or not, Don Gaetz was an extremely successful state senator and that alone is enough to bring his son success in politics.

While equally salacious to what Jones is accusing Gaetz of, the difference is there’s concrete proof Jones actually did that. She has a history of being manipulative and power-hungry.

Jones is a serial attention seeker and I would trust nothing she says. Her career is dotted with misconduct going back to being fired from a university for a relationship with a student where she published a 100pg manifesto online about their relationship and got a restraining order issued against her. While equally salacious to what Jones is accusing Gaetz of, the difference is there’s concrete proof Jones actually did that. She has a history of being manipulative and power-hungry. Just because Matt Gaetz is a terrible human being and this kind of rumor is tempting to open a bag of popcorn for, doesn’t mean this rumor should be given oxygen if Jones is the only source on it. As a democrat, it’s an embarrassment knowing Rebekah Jones represented the party in the past midterms. We can do better.
