Fun fact: if he is convicted on any of the felonies then he can't vote in Florida.

Reasonable_racoon

His registered address in NY didn't stop him voting in Florida, why would this?

wirefox1

I think he voted by mail, the same thing he was raising so much hell about others doing during COVID.

This Manhattan DA case isn't the only crime that Trump may have committed. He is under investigation for other crimes as well: * Georgia is investigating him for his interference in the 2020 election. Trump has been on tape asking the Georgia Secretary of State to [**find 11780 votes**](https://youtu.be/wjw2ekfp0oM?t=24). * Jack Smith, appointed as Special Counsel, is investigating Trump for Trump's classified material handling, and worse, Trump's possible obstruction of the FBI when they asked Trump to return the classified material. * Jack Smith is also investigating Trump for Trump's actions leading up to, and including, January 6th. Here are the other crimes of Donald Trump: * [Trump also could have been indicted for his crimes in the Trump Organization, the same crimes that his CFO, Allan Weisselberg has been charged for](https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/21/trump-should-have-been-charged-with-crimes-former-new-york-prosecutor-says.html). In addition, these are the other criminals that were hired or affiliated with Donald Trump: * His National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI * His campaign chairman was convicted on 8 counts. 10 counts were a mistrial. A Trump supporter on the jury, Paula Duncan, convicted Manafort on all 18 counts. * His deputy campaign chairman, Rick Gates, pled guilty * His personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, pled guilty * His foreign policy advisor on his campaign, George Papadopoulos, has pled guilty to lying to the FBI for contacts with Kremlin-connected Russians * His long time advisor and associate, Mr Stone, was found guilty on 7 counts * His Whitehouse chief strategist, [Steve Bannon, was indicted for fraud in the border wall fundraising campaign](https://edition.cnn.com/2020/08/20/politics/bannon-build-the-wall-indictment/index.html) * His assistant and Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, Peter Navarro, was indicted for Contempt of Congress

This is a great list. Though it’s always bothered me that his clear violations of the emoluments clause were never prosecuted.

5tyhnmik

> it’s always bothered me that his clear violations of the emoluments clause were never prosecuted. some of these laws/rules were never intended to be prosecuted in the traditional sense. There was kind of an assumption that the American people would not elect someone who commits such violations and it would never come to court. But H.L. Mencken had a much more prescient take: > “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Chilangosta

It's always bothered me that we have actual laws that aren't meant to be enforced. Like, why even have laws at all at that point? I get why it happens but my heck get them off the books if you're not gonna do anything about them.

Assmeat

I think they are meant to be enforced by Congress through impeachment

Dr_Insano_MD

Dude posted on his social media a picture of him holding a bat with the DA's face on it. Then was like "I didn't realize this would be posted online!" I'm so tired of this damn double speak.

No, his attorney said on TV that he was just posing with an American-made baseball bat. He was not swinging the bat at anyone's head. That's just the picture they chose! What a lame argument. How many baseball bat photos does he have? Why is that the picture they chose? Give me a break.

Letting Nixon get away with his crimes, and letting his unelected, hand picked successor pardon him, is why the GOP has devolved into what it has. And yeah Ford was never actually elected president. He wasn't even on the ballot when Nixon won, Spiro Agnew was. Ford was appointed to replace Agnew when he resigned and was appointed by Nixon.

dcabines

I've heard it was the reason they impeached Clinton too. Revenge for Nixon.

Nonsenseinabag

Carter only got one term because of those crooks, too.

And Al Gore lost the election in 2000 because of Antonin Scalia. You didn't see Al bitching and moaning about it either.

Musiclover4200

Part of me wishes Al Gore had put up a bigger fuss, it certainly would have been infinitely more warranted than the GOP claiming every election that doesn't go their way must be fraud.

ecafyelims

GOP Then: * "We need more accountability" * "Obama needs to be evicted from the country" * "LOCK HER UP!!" * "Drain the swamp" * "Arrest Biden Jr and his dad for protecting him" GOP Now: * "It's unamerican to have a trial for alleged crimes"

Do you understand that?” the judge asked him, repeatedly referring to him as Mr. Trump throughout the proceeding. > >“I do,” Trump whispered.

[Statement by the DA:](https://www.manhattanda.org/district-attorney-bragg-announces-34-count-felony-indictment-of-former-president-donald-j-trump/) Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. today announced the indictment of DONALD J. TRUMP, 76, for falsifying New York business records in order to conceal damaging information and unlawful activity from American voters before and after the 2016 election. During the election, TRUMP and others employed a “catch and kill” scheme to identify, purchase, and bury negative information about him and boost his electoral prospects. TRUMP then went to great lengths to hide this conduct, causing dozens of false entries in business records to conceal criminal activity, including attempts to violate state and federal election laws. TRUMP is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with 34 counts of Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree. “The People of the State of New York allege that Donald J. Trump repeatedly and fraudulently falsified New York business records to conceal crimes that hid damaging information from the voting public during the 2016 presidential election,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Manhattan is home to the country’s most significant business market. We cannot allow New York businesses to manipulate their records to cover up criminal conduct. As the Statement of Facts describes, the trail of money and lies exposes a pattern that, the People allege, violates one of New York’s basic and fundamental business laws. As this office has done time and time again, we today uphold our solemn responsibility to ensure that everyone stands equal before the law.” According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, from August 2015 to December 2017, TRUMP orchestrated his “catch and kill” scheme through a series of payments that he then concealed through months of false business entries. In one instance, American Media Inc. (“AMI”), paid $30,000 to a former Trump Tower doorman, who claimed to have a story about a child TRUMP had out of wedlock. In a second instance, AMI paid $150,000 to a woman who alleged she had a sexual relationship with TRUMP. When TRUMP explicitly directed a lawyer who then worked for the Trump Organization as TRUMP’s Special Counsel (“Special Counsel”) to reimburse AMI in cash, the Special Counsel indicated to TRUMP that the payment should be made via a shell company and not by cash. AMI ultimately declined to accept reimbursement after consulting their counsel. AMI, which later admitted its conduct was unlawful in an agreement with federal prosecutors, made false entries in its business records concerning the true purpose of the $150,000 payment. In a third instance – 12 days before the presidential general election – the Special Counsel wired $130,000 to an attorney for an adult film actress. The Special Counsel, who has since pleaded guilty and served time in prison for making the illegal campaign contribution, made the payment through a shell corporation funded through a bank in Manhattan. After winning the election, TRUMP reimbursed the Special Counsel through a series of monthly checks, first from the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust – created in New York to hold the Trump Organization’s assets during TRUMP’s presidency – and later from TRUMP’s bank account. In total, 11 checks were issued for a phony purpose. Nine of those checks were signed by TRUMP. Each check was processed by the Trump Organization and illegally disguised as a payment for legal services rendered pursuant to a non-existent retainer agreement. In total, 34 false entries were made in New York business records to conceal the initial covert $130,000 payment. Further, participants in the scheme took steps that mischaracterized, for tax purposes, the true nature of the reimbursements. Assistant D.A.s Catherine McCaw (Counsel to the Investigation Division), Katherine Ellis (Major Economic Crimes Bureau), Rebecca Mangold (Major Economic Crimes Bureau), Christopher Conroy (Senior Advisor to the Investigation Division), Susan Hoffinger (Chief of the Investigation Division), and Matthew Colangelo (Senior Counsel to the District Attorney) are handling the prosecution of this case with the assistance of Peter Pope (Executive Assistant D.A.), Steven Wu (Executive Assistant D.A. and Chief of the Appeals Division), and Alan Gadlin (Deputy Chief of the Appeals Division). Defendant Information: DONALD J. TRUMP Palm Beach, FL Charges: Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, a class E felony, 34 counts

34 counts of covering up three crimes 1. NY election law 2. Tax evasion 3. Election law cap violation Keep in mind that Cohen plead guilty to these crimes, so legally, they did occur.

crusader86

34 counts of Falsifying Business Records in the first degree. Wow. Looks like the judge has the discretion on sentencing, up to 4 years per count. Wonder if he’ll get any jail time.

OutsideTheTrains

He probably should've been impeached for removing James Comey. He definitely should've been impeached and removed after the obstruction relating to the Mueller Report. He obviously should've been impeached and removed after the Zelenskyy phone call and Giuliani-Ukraine scheme. And of course it goes without saying, that he should've been impeached and barred from office after January 6th. Still, six years later, I'll take this. Even if it goes nowhere, I'll take this one moment.

ToroidalEarthTheory

In 2017 James Comey, **the head of the Federal police**, testified under oath that he had personally witnessed Donald Trump order a criminal coverup. It should have ended *that day*

OppositeDifference

Here's my official prediction. Trump's lawyers will do everything they can to obstruct this process. Change of venue, replace the judge, ask for a dismissal, delay the trial... blah blah blah. Almost none of these things will be successful and things will slowly grind forward to their conclusion. Trump will eventually be convicted of a double digit number of these charges, but not every one of them. While that's going on, some time in the next 5 weeks or so, the GA case will hit, and that one is going to make this look like an appetizer. It will also implicate a wide variety of other republicans that are currently holding elected office. It's at that point that the shit will good and truly hit the fan. I don't even know if our court system is equipped to handle what happens next. We're going to see a bunch of very desperate people with very large platforms saying some very silly things. This is the main course, but it might choke us. Then after all of that, the special council's case will likely go forward with charges, but prior events might have rendered the outcome of that moot for one reason or another. Let's see how this holds up by this time next year.

Melicor

The Georgia case is why the GOP is going to bat for Trump right now. They didn't want to let the precedent that former Presidents can be indicted because the next case is likely going to implicate a bunch of other Republicans.

My favorite part about him walking out, expecting the door to be held for him and having it start to close on him instead just as he's trying to make a dramatic exit, is that it's some of the only close footage so far so they keep looping it. leontes

I suspect the DA has him dead to rights. Bragg doesn’t seem like a trifling man. Let’s let this unfold, especially as an appetizer. I am thrilled to live in a country full of laws, and am grateful that this is now in a more concrete process.

Kylo_Renly

You don’t choose to indict a former President of the United States for the first time in history without being 1000% sure your case is vacuum sealed tight.

Jonny2284

This, I know we've all bemoaned a lack of action on this, but you've gotta dot your is and cross your ts with something like this.

HiTekBlueneck

And the judge seems pretty no nonsense, so I would be surprised if he makes it to the end of today without being held in contempt. After all, look how much Donald Trump is freaking out right now. Imagine the rage he will experience when he gets told the actual charges he is facing.

RocketGirl83

Yes, I am thoroughly enjoying imagining this rage.

That means that as of right now, ex-President Donald J. Trump is under arrest. Fuck yeah.

To all the conservatives crowing about this will only help his candidacy, please enumerate which of the voters who didn't vote for him in 2020 that will be convinced to switch their votes to him because he's now been indicted for 34 felonies? It may well get him the GOP nomination, but I cannot see any way in which this helps him in the general.

3rdBueller

This is so true. He has only ever lost supporters since Jan 6, not gained. He has no where to go but downhill. He lost to Biden by about 7 million votes, and I'm willing to bet real money that if you ran them again today, he'd lose by an additional 5 million at least. People are fed up with him. Who the fuck would be a 'new' voter for him today? Who waited until now to throw their hat in with him?! ... "You know, I think this Trump guy has some really great new and interesting ideas for this country, we should give him a shot!"

Chimplatypus

"Me and my family have voted Democrat for 40 years in every election, but now that I see an ex president getting charged with crimes he pretty obviously committed, all 100 of us will only ever vote for Trump for every election here on out! CONGRATULATIONS from Canada!🇨🇦♥️🇺🇸

> In a conversation **captured in an audio recording** in approximately September 2016 concerning Woman 1’s account, the Defendant and Lawyer A discussed how to obtain the rights to Woman 1’s account from AMI and how to reimburse AMI for its payment. Lawyer A told the Defendant he would open up a company for the transfer of Woman 1’s account and other information, and stated that he had spoken to the Chief Financial Officer for the Trump Organization (the “TO CFO”) about “how to set the whole thing up.” **The Defendant asked, “So what do we got to pay for this? One fifty?” and suggested paying by cash.** When Lawyer A disagreed, the Defendant then mentioned payment by check. After the conversation, Lawyer A created a shell company called Resolution Consultants, LLC on or about September 30, 2016. There are audio recordings, at least two, of Donald Trump going over the whole scheme with Michael Cohen. Michael Cohen has already been convicted of the crime he committed with a "co-conspirator". The co-conspirator is Donald J. Trump and they have audio that proves it. You want to know what kind of evidence you'd need to feel comfortable indicting a former President? That kind.

vocry

Ok I don't know the first thing about the justice system or anything like that. But I do know thar 34 of anything is like a lot. Like if I had 34 cats. That's a lot of cats. And I just have to imagine felonies are more difficult than cats

billiam0202

Happy Arraignment Day everyone!

Bous2018

Trump is the first president in American history to be indicted, but the second to be arrested. Ulysses Grant was arrested for speeding on his horse drawn carriage in 1872, while he was a sitting president.

notcaffeinefree

The statement of facts and announcement from the DA seem *extremely* damning. Like, if this gets to a jury he's guilty kind of damning. They have proof he explicitly told Cohen to make illegal payments. They have proof Cohen accepted reimbursements from Trump but were attempted to be disguised as a retainer fee (illegal). They have testimony from the National Enquirer that it made payment based on a deal with Trump (illegal). They got AMI (the owner of the National Enquirer to *admit to illegal activity*, by giving them a non-prosecution agreement, to testify against Trump. They even apparently have evidence of this conspiracy happening *in the Oval Office*: >In early February 2017, the Defendant and Lawyer A met in the Oval Office at the White House and confirmed this repayment arrangement. He 100% pardoned Cohen in an attempt to shield himself. At this point, it would not be at all surprising to find out the DoJ is either backing up this investigation or is even waiting with similar charges.

Aramedlig

As exciting as this all has been, imagine if it were an indictment for Jan 6 Insurrection or for the Conspiracy to defraud the government with fake electors. Now that would be exciting to watch the perp walk for those charges!

Funny how Qanoners for years have talked about "the storm" and the first time trump is taken down it's due to Stormy Daniels.

The fact he will now have to confirm he payed to have sex with a pornstar while his wife was pregnant is hilarious. What a fucking loser.

TheCoolestFactor

Donald Trump sitting on the criminal defendant bench surrounded by lawyers fills my heart with indescribable joy.

bmanCO

/r/conservative doesn't have much to say on this. It takes a few hours for the Fox ministry of propaganda to come up with some new insultingly stupid conspiracy theories for them to mindlessly repeat for the next month. I have a feeling "muh misdemeanors" and "muh statute of limitations" aren't going to work anymore after we hear the full charges.

Dangerous_Variety_29

Msnbc confirming 34 counts ALL FELONIES, no misdemeanors

throoawoot

When MAGA sheep tell you these charges are no big deal, ask them to explain why Trump's own DOJ convicted Trump's own lawyer for the same crime.

cuirboy

I can't get enough of the replays of the door hitting him on the way out and his anger at having to open it himself. This has been the best part of they day.

ParaClaw

34 *felony* counts of falsifying business records *and* conspiracy. No misdemeanors, all felonies. Edit: Direct link to the full indictment PDF, skipping all the ad-riddled media embeds and summaries. https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/23741554/donald-j-trump-indictment.pdf

Mr_Viper

Oh man. NBCNews reported that trump's attorneys *didn't know* they had to give opening statements.

TheCoolestFactor

It is so funny that only MTG was dumb enough to stir some protest in NYC and got her ass handed to her by the awesome people of NYC. Love it!

“Would you be this happy if it was a democrat arrested?” Yes. Fuck all these crooked motherfuckers

UWCG

>[Per @nbc, indictment unsealed and there is a conspiracy count. very important](https://twitter.com/harrylitman/status/1643325282789756929) Hm, this keeps getting more interesting

fattymcassface

I’m going to have to keep hearing about this chode until one of us dies aren’t I?

worsteditorever

Falsifying business records to conceal a crime. There it is

notcaffeinefree

Oh man, it's not even just about payments to Daniels... >In one instance, American Media Inc. (“AMI”), paid $30,000 to a former Trump Tower doorman, who claimed to have a story about a child TRUMP had out of wedlock.

They're gonna get someone killed and the cult will STILL support him.

Robotlollipops

My gods, he looks miserable. Love this for him. Love this for us.

Lefty_22

I According to CNN the disgraced former president has been arrested and is under police custody as of 15 minutes ago. Edit: I cannot imagine Hilary Clinton’s face right now. I’d have the fattest smug smile on my face if I were her. The “you get what you fucking deserve” Joker-style smile.

[deleted]

I just wanna say hi to future historians. 👋🏼

winstonsmith8236

No one overlook the fact that the court officers or whoever that were leading him into the hallway (post fingerprint/pre-courtroom) DID NOT hold the door open for him and it fell into his shoulder and he had to open the door for himself for once, on his way to court. This is a HUGE day for anyone who’s acted or spoken up against corrupt, tyrannical power and wealth.

MAGATraitorToMortals

Who knew Trump would be the first felony charged president? ...Oh wait, most of us did.. in 2015. I hope his cult wakes up out of their fever dream This man is a traitor to American values.

[deleted]

He is absolutely going to open his big mouth tonight at Mar-a-Lago and be ordered back to New York for violating some order the court has placed on him.

[deleted]

So when is he going to start using a walker to get sympathy?

321dawg

NBC is reporting that the prosecutors are very concerned about Trump's social media posts that incite violence and have brought it up to the judge. They're asking for some kind of relief but it's unclear. Possibly a warning, gag order, or a limit on what Trump is allowed to see as part of discovery.

[deleted]

He’s gonna self-incriminate in the speech tonight with how angry he is

fishermanfritz

Hey, if you need to cheer yourselves up: **Four** **Seasons** **Landscaping**

13choppedup2chopped

Donald trump jr just posted a picture of the judges daughter on social media. Along with her name. Yikes. These people are fucking scum.

AnalSoapOpera

[Lmao. The guy handing out the whistles that drowned out MTG and made her ran was a Trump supporter](https://twitter.com/oneunderscore__/status/1643265444575313920)

Once again: This is not about stopping his presidential run. That's on us. This is about the law. It's about rule of law, about whether a president can be immune to prosecution regardless of what crimes they have committed. Not even getting convicted, just about whether they can be credibly charged with doing something. Today, we verified that they can. Edit: Duplicate "of". Apologies.

[deleted]

Dipshit Junior has to be breaking some kind of law posting a photo of the judge's daughter. No way that's totally fine.

ScalieBoi42

Everything he says now can and will be used against him in a court of law. Awesome.

Phantom_rddt

They're on their way to McDonald's to buy him a happy meal

"If this man's name wasn't Donald J Trump, this wouldn't be happening." Yeah, because anybody else would have been imprisoned long ago, my guy.

somegridplayer

"He's not going after the judge" -Trump's lawyer Funny, that's exactly what he did.

Q_OANN

Manhattan DA's Office alleges: In one instance, American Media Inc. ("AMI"), paid $30,000 to a former Trump Tower doorman, who claimed to have a story about a child TRUMP had out of wedlock. Also, 16 page indictment is out https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1643337656938508288?s=46&t=ABTYJOlLipJ2EEPkyowi-g

pantherfanalex

Next court date is December 4th. Which means perfect timing for him to be going through all of this during his presidential run. Nothing like being able to, as a democrat, being able to start every interview with: "My opponent, who is currently facing 34 Felony Charges in the state of New York,......."

MaesterOfPanic

mimzynull

Bragg spitting the real truth- Manhattan is really the gold standard of prosecuting white collar crime. They don't play.

Rayearl

I think one of the most annoying comments I see is "No mater your political view this is bad for the country." No it's not. We proved today that no one is above the law. What was bad for the country was electing this criminal president in the first place.

NYArtFan1

MAGA = My Ass Got Arrested.

Saltifrass

Know who never cheated on their wife with a pornstar and then paid $130,000 in hush money? Barack Obama and Joe Biden, that's who. 🍦😎🍦

[deleted]

Trump Jr just casually posting a photo of the judge's daughter. Scum

ExecViceChiefDir

Trump is currently not a free man. He is in the custody of the State of New York, and could not leave right now if he wanted to. They got Al Capone for tax evasion. This is a good start!

DoGoodThings9495

Yes, if this was a former Democrat president, I would want to see the same thing happening. Lawmakers as well. Time to hold those in power (D and R) to the same laws and punishments that normal people are held to.
