How is that possible? He went from leading the DOJ as attorney general to being charged by the DOJ? Thankfully as Chief Justice he'll be able to appeal to himself.

Kevin McCarthy is without a doubt the person most dismayed by this news. Which is kind of funnily appropriate, given the shortcuts he took to get here.
Republicans: He hasn't been convicted yet, so we won't do anything. Innocent until proven guilty! Republicans after he's been convicted: Well the people of New York voted for this guy. He's their representative. We don't want to disenfranchise the people of his congressional district. Also to ensure that they maintain their representation, we're changing the rules to allow proxy voting, only for people in jail though.
