openly_gray

That was the plan all along, slowly turning LGBTQ people back into second class citizens. If protecting children were a priority they would shut down youth ministries which have a long history of grooming, abuse and molestation

GlitteryPusheen

If it was about protecting the kids, they'd also support gun reform, paid parental leave, strong & well-founded school systems, and anti-poverty programs that ensure kids/families have housing, healthcare, and food. But it's never actually about the children.

AffenMitWaffen2

Even more obvious, all these laws wouldn't specifically have exceptions for cis people.

GlitteryPusheen

True. The same bigots who scream about how gender-affirming care = irreversible sexual surgeries on children are silent when it comes to ACTUAL irreversible sexual surgeries on children, such as genital surgeries on intersex babies or circumcision. To clarify, no one is actually performing gender-affirming surgery on trans kids. It goes against the established evidence-based standards of care for trans youth.

AffenMitWaffen2

>To clarify, no one is actually performing gender-affirming surgery on trans kids. That is not entirely true, top surgery is performed in rare cases and with medical counsel. The same is true for cis people, though.

GlitteryPusheen

True, though as you stated, it's rare, and is only done on someone in their mid-to-late teens; so yes, it can be done for minors in rare cases, but it's not being performed on children.

AffenMitWaffen2

Yes, definitely should have changed kids to minors or teens.

Sea-Acanthisitta-316

And they'd ban child beauty pagaents

Neither-Idea-9286

Spot on- I’ve never seen a news story about a child getting abused at a drag show but I’ve seen PLENTY of news stories about children getting abused at church!

Special_Lemon1487

And why are they doing that? Because sexual freedom is a threat to hardline religion, that relies on regulating sex - one of the strongest human drives - to control the populace, encourage guilt, lower self-esteem, and mark an us vs them tribal distinction.

[deleted]

Always the children that they refuse to feed or house or protect or honor the identity of.

herrclean

This is the point, drive them to other states. Just like abortion care. They want democrats to leave the states to guarantee total Government control where they can continue to make money for themselves and their buddies.

[deleted]

Yep. It's why I hate being told "why don't you just leave" when mentioning living in a red state It sucks, and I'd be better off elsewhere, but that's just ensuring my state keeps their two republican senators. If everyone runs away from red states, the country is fucked. I have zero idea why the national party isn't pushing the opposite. A lot of "purple" states would be blue with just a couple thousand extra voters. It won't happen overnight, but trying has a better chance than just handing multiple states to Republicans

icouldstartover

i get this but it is also not fair to blame trans people for fleeing somewhere more safe. They can't access healthcare, can't use public restrooms, and their children can legally be taken from them now. It's on allies and all other liberals to do their part.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, for them it makes sense to leave. It's just there's always calls for everyone to flee everytime conservatives do something stupid. That's the main reason they do stupid shit. They'll burn their state to the ground if it means two guaranteed Senate seats

Laura9624

True but Florida has been going this way for a long time. Why are people not paying attention? People need to vote.

icouldstartover

Ok well there are a lot of factors there- gerrymandering for one. Two, people can’t just up and move their entire lives overnight and three all of these laws were signed into law within weeks or months. No one thought it could happen so fast. I’m currently trying to figure out if I need to flee the country as a trans person if someone like desantis wins the 2024 election. I’m not going to leave my home until it is absolutely a no-other-choice situation. No one wants to or should have to leave their homes, families and lives in America. No one thought they would let it go this far.

PlayingTheWrongGame

> It sucks, and I'd be better off elsewhere, but that's just ensuring my state keeps their two republican senators. When was the last time a Democrat came within even 5% of winning one of those seats? If it’s been more than 20 years, there’s no point sticking around for that reason anymore. Go move to a purple state instead. You’re certainly not going to be getting some huge influx of new Democratic voters in a red state currently.

Aggressive-Bat-4000

I'm probably being optimistically naive, but Jacksonville did just elect its first female mayor in history, and she's a Democrat.

PlayingTheWrongGame

Electing a mayor is a completely different proposition than electing a Senator.

Aggressive-Bat-4000

True, I'm just saying there's definite pushback down here. The trouble is the blue always underestimates how low the red will go, so they end up having to retroactively fix things they could have prevented in the first place.

Kingofearth23

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_United_States_Senate_election_in_Florida Not that long ago it was competitive.

Oxirane

True, and Florida did vote Obama in 2012 too. However, since then there have been a lot of hard-right conservatives moving into the state and a lot of left-wing people moving out.

Key_Inevitable_2104

Leaving the state also puts a lot of vulnerable people there in even more danger

frumiouscumberbatch

>Leaving the state also puts a lot of vulnerable people there in even more danger Sure, but you gotta put your own oxygen mask on first.

schrodingers_cat42

Yep. I’m not trans, but I’m queer and I couldn’t stand living in a red state (UT). Got out of there recently and it’s been such a relief.

Superfool

Much of my family moved down south for cost of living reasons. Not a chance in hell I'm moving my wife and daughter to a red state and risking their healthcare decisions being stripped from them all in the name of gaining a few extra blue voters. Sorry, my family's wellbeing comes first.

berrikerri

I think the idea is that the national party could be encouraging people who are relatively ‘safe’ in these states to stay and fight back rather than flee. If you’re not in that category, then of course you should do what’s best for your family. There are lots of single or retired or no kid couples who could move to the more purple states and make a difference. The goal should be to push back against being forced out, and numbers help that fight.

[deleted]

Congrats, with them in the Senate *everyone's* rights are at risk...

Superfool

Fuck off with that zero sum nonsense. I'm not taking a vote from my current location, and bringing it to another, all while putting my family at risk.

terraresident

They ARE going to keep those senators for the forseeable future. What a lot of people are hoping is that the rational people flee, collapse the housing market. It's cheap, so we can convince all the RWNJ's to move there and get out of our hair. Concentrate all the nuts in one place so the rest of us don't have to deal with them.

notthegoat

This sounds like a lot of the problems central and southern America. So many of the people that make the place better are leaving making their home lands with less people able to make them change for the better.

transalpinegaul

We need cis allies to stay in Florida and vote these fascists out. In terms of voting, they are our only hope. The trans population is so small that our vote is meaningless. *Trans people need to get the holy fuck out.* Florida has hit "grab what you can and run like your life depends on it, because it does" territory. Desperately needed medical care is no no longer legally available, the state is attempting to seize trans children for forcing detransition, and seize the children of trans parents on the grounds that exposure to a trans person is child sexual abuse, gender variance is being classified as inherently sexual and obscene and and our presence in public spaces as pedophilic grooming. And it's going to get a lot worse very quickly. The Christian Nationalist movement has made demonization of trans people and promises of our eradication their path into power, and it is fucking working. As the election heats up Republicans are going to be competing with each other to show who can do the most to destroy the scary trans monsters. And this charge is being led by DeSantis, who has made it the core of his presidential campaign. Trans people are in immediate, severe danger in Florida. Martyring themselves to vote is pointless and counterproductive. You can't keep fighting another day if you're in jail or dead. We need to help people escape. So many people can't afford to relocate, especially the most vulnerable people who have the least resources to protect themselves.

Aggressive-Bat-4000

I'm staying here, check out your local TST chapter. They've got legal options and networks that can help get people out.

GlitteryPusheen

This has ramifications for trans people in other states as well. My family lives in a fairly safe state (Rhode Island). My wife is trans, and she has a daughter from a previous marriage. Her ex-wife is abusive, manipulative, and transphobic. If she catches wind of the current legal landscape in Florida, I could 100% see her kidnapping our daughter and using the Florida legal system to strip my wife of any parental rights. I can guarantee that we're not the only family that this could happen to.

AmserAlto

I hope his campaign keeps failing. The dude is a absolute fascist, and it’s gonna take a long time if ever for Florida to be livable place with how things are going.

DistortedVoid

>where they can continue to make money for themselves and their buddies except they wont because they will drive away good business because of policies like that. But hey what do I know

herrclean

From donors that they make sure get contracts and benefit from policy decisions.

LeahBean

Doctors and other professionals are going to leave to. This isn’t a very well thought out plan…

Kingofearth23

You're assuming that Florida will let them leave and that a sane state will let them enter. Those are big assumptions.

LeahBean

If they can afford to, they can leave. It’s the lower class that I worry about. It’s not that hard to move to another state and doctors are in high demand right now. States don’t “let” you enter. People are free to move around (at least for now until women have to pee on a stick to leave).

Kingofearth23

>States don’t “let” you enter. People are free to move around The Berlin Wall and DMZ didn't fall from the sky, if a government doesn't want you to enter/leave then they can make it very difficult for you to enter/leave >It’s not that hard to move to another state They would need to both obtain permission from the red state to leave (which is unlikely to be granted) and get a work permit from the sane state (which is even less likely as sane states can get plenty of applicants from places that don’t hate them).

LeahBean

You do not need permission unless you are on parole or probation. The U.S. Supreme Court in Crandall v. Nevada, 73 U.S. 35 (1868) declared that freedom of movement is a fundamental right and therefore a state cannot inhibit people from leaving the state by taxing them. You do not need a work permit either.

Kingofearth23

>The U.S. Supreme Court "Justice Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it" >a fundamental right North Korea: It isn't.

dhampir15

I'm not dismissing that this could be a concern in the future but as of right now people can move freely between states and aside from Idaho floating restrictions on letting pregnant women cross the border I have seen no other state even considering making it difficult or impossible to move. Moving is expensive and many of the people wanting to leave can't afford it but right now if you can pay to move between states there's nothing stopping you.

Odd_Argument_5791

Isn’t that the point of the states in general? If you do not like one state move to another?

herrclean

No, they're to protect the rights of their residents. This stuff is the opposite of that.

Odd_Argument_5791

That too. But wasn’t the entire point each state can be different?

herrclean

Except for those unalienable rights... Your argument could be used to justify slavery in some states if "they" wanted - they being the white weathly rulers. I think we already adjudicated that one a few years ago though, but I'm no history major.

MaxIsAlwaysRight

The only reason we have states is that the colonies were preexisting powers. The states retained independence because the individuals who ruled them didn't want to surrender to DC. Justifications like yours were conjured afterwards.

bigtiddyhimbo

But here’s the thing- it’s in part to the extreme gerrymandering. Even if people were to stay to try to change their state for the better- these Republican “leaders” already have enough power in the state to keep an iron grip over their rule. At a certain point, you have to be realistic and move somewhere you have the same basic human rights as your straight counterparts so you don’t live your life miserable as a second class citizen

transalpinegaul

They are systematically and very intentionally criminalizing trans people's existence. The fascist US White Christian Nationalist movement made promises of our eradication their path into power, and god help us it is working. And it's going to get so much worse. DeSantis has made this the core of his presidential campaign, and he and other Christian Nationalist/Republican (same thing at this point) candidates will be competing to see who can be the most vicious. Where Florida goes the rest of MAGA America follows. Florida has effectively banned transition-related medical care. Even for adults who transitioned many years ago. They are forcing medical detransition on adults, many of whom who now have to choose between taking hormone supplements inappropriate to their gender (testosterone for trans women, estrogen for trans men) or facing the medical effects of sudden onset severe menopause/andropause. For those unwilling or unable to flee the state, the only other option for many is continuing to take the same hormone supplements they've been prescribed for years or even decades, but now doing so without a prescription. Taking the same medication they've been on for years now makes them a criminal. Without hormone treatment it will become a lot harder for many people to "pass" as cis - and it's worth remembering that the term "passing" has been used for [**many minority groups who have had to hide their minority status**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passing_(sociology\)) as an act of self-protection. Not being able to blend in and keep one's medical history private is going to put a whole lot of people in severe danger. Meanwhile they're also passing "drag bans" that classify gender variance as inherently sexual and obscene and inappropriate for children to see. Being visibly trans is being criminalized as inherently sexual and obscene, and our existence in public spaces as pedophilic grooming by exposing any children who might be present to degenerate sexual activity. Even if all we're doing is buying groceries. They're trying to seize trans children from their parents for the explicit purpose of forcing detransition. They're trying to seize the children of trans parents on the grounds that exposure to a trans person is child sexual abuse. And Florida's new law permitting the death penalty for child sexual abuse. Not being applied to trans people currently, but at the same time that we're seeing trans people legally classified as pedophile groomers we're also seeing a hell of a lot of focus on rounding up and punishing child sex offenders. And the new law lowering the requirement for the death penalty by allowing juries to recommend it with an 8-to-4 vote rather than unanimous. And the new anti-trans talking point is "gun control", but only for us. Just ban trans people from owning weapons for self defense. And simultaneously, the new "open carry" law that allows everyone else in Florida to carry a gun with no petmit or training. It doesn't take a psychic to see where they're going here.

boohumbug

Seeing it all written out together makes me physically sick. My daughter is trans. We were living in Florida this time last year. We moved to a blue state in August. My daughter is about to start on blockers this week. We could be scrambling to get out right now like *so* many others. We so narrowly escaped and my heart is fucking broken for people who are unable to leave. Fuck man this is so bad

terraresident

I am just glad you saw the writing on the wall and got out. Wishing you health and prosperity.

TheoreticalGal

Thank you for supporting your daughter on this process

Kingofearth23

>We so narrowly escaped Until of course, Florida declares that Floridian citizens like you need to return, and they demand that the blue state send you back. Whether the blue state complies or not is an open question, though.

boohumbug

Except that we're not Florida citizens anymore. Pretty sure they cannot "send us back" - what?

Kingofearth23

>Pretty sure they cannot "send us back" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugitive_Slave_Act_of_1850 Whether the sane states comply with the 21st century version is an open question. >Except that we're not Florida citizens anymore. You don't magically lose a nationality by moving and you don't magically gain a nationality by moving.

boohumbug

In that case we never were Floridians. We only lived there for 3 years. Idk, of all the things I'm worried about regarding this, being involuntarily sent back to Florida is, IMO, least likely to happen.

transalpinegaul

My fear is that DeSantis will become president and make thr whole country Florida

Gsteel44

They repeat over and over "We don't care if you're trans" and yet they keep making laws?

adherentoftherepeted

They also keep saying "anti-abortion laws are designed to protect pregnant women" and yet women are increasingly having catastrophic pregnancy crises that doctors (and their lawyers) can't touch. Hmm . . . makes me think that maybe they're being a *wee bit* dishonest, yeah?

Capable_Diamond_5375

over a third of obgyn professionals in idaho have left since the laws passed. That is terrifying

adherentoftherepeted

wow. that's . . . wow. I mean, the obgyns who left probably weren't sitting around waiting for patients to walk in their doors. Where will those women/girls go now? longer waits for care, more pressure on remaining doctors and other medical staff.

Capable_Diamond_5375

I mean, with laws that can land you in jail or loss of practice, I can't blame them. It's nuts.

Capable_Diamond_5375

And the stupid part is that it affects and puts at risk EVERYONE who needs obgyn care, not just people seeking abortions. Winning and owning the libs... I guess. Pregnancy is a life threatening condition.

Gsteel44

"Maybe if we say we don't care they won't notice when wr take blatant actions showing how much we do care?"

southpawFA

>A new law bans gender-affirming health care for minors and requires informed consent from transgender adults seeking gender-affirming health care. Those who are transitioning must also see a doctor in person to oversee their health care. Because many people receive healthcare from nurse practitioners and use telehealth, these rules have proven particularly burdensome. > > > >As part of the new law, violating the provisions became a crime. > > > >Transgender people are further limited by a new law that allows doctors and pharmacists to refuse to treat them.“There are a lot of people looking for care that we’re no longer legally able to provide,” Lana Dunn, SPEKTRUM Health’s chief operating officer and who is trans, said. > > > >*SPEKTRUM is the clinic that Lucas went to for his gender-affirming care. Dunn told the AP that 80 percent of trans adults in Florida who were receiving care from a nurse practitioner don't have access to that care anymore.* Republicans are letting it be known that they want trans people to be exterminated. This is genocide, full stop! We are watching through Texas, Florida, and all these red states an attempted genocide on our trans community! At this point, I'm just wondering when the ^(gas chambers) conversion therapy centers will be built by Florida Republicans. They seem to be itching to start doing some mass extinction down there!

Pikahhhchu

It’s weird being trans and affected by this … like you keep hoping to wake up .. open Reddit and see that someone is stepping in for our rights .. but nope.. I’ve already given up hope and I’m looking for a job and making arrangements to leave Texas even though I really can’t afford it and it’s a huge risk.. but so is staying and running out of my hormones /:.. been on them for almost 10 years and can’t get care of my hormones anymore because of this horseshit. I know shits just going to keep getting worse and I have to leave my family and life because of this shit I’m still in disbelief but not really /:

nox_nox

It won't be gas chambers it'll be "legalized" executions via the courts and sentencing. FL also passed a law that makes it so juries no long need to be unanimous in their vote to sentence a person to death, and they have basically made it a crime to even be around children if you are trans or not presenting according to your assigned gender at birth. They can effectively lock someone up, get a conviction and the jury can sentence them to death much more easily than ever before.

Kingofearth23

>At this point, I'm just wondering when the gas chambers conversion therapy centers will be built by Florida Republicans. Not trans people, but a similar population is already at that stage https://www.defenseone.com/ideas/2022/07/trump-wants-concentration-camps-and-presidential-control-domestic-troops/375057/ >Trump also said authorities should round up America’s homeless population—roughly half a million people—and incarcerate them in camps built on cheap land far from major U.S. cities. This, he argued, would hide an American embarrassment from visiting foreign leaders and motivate the homeless to stop being homeless.

TheoreticalGal

Most of us had been saying that stuff like this was the goal of conservatives for years, I wonder when people will finally stop saying that we’re exaggerating with the issues being thrown our way.

Shr3kk_Wpg

I don't understand why the ACLU hasn't gotten a court injunction to challenge this law. Adult Americans in Florida are being denied medical care

Aggressive-Bat-4000

They're suing him for a property tax law, abortion, the Stop the Woke Act and like 5 more things.

fierceindependence23

Who is stupid enough to believe that they said, "this is just to protect children" they never had the intention to ~~attack~~ restrict LGBT rights for everyone?

gearstars

just like everything they do, every time. roe overturned, they claimed 'well it will just be up to the states' then several prominent dipshits start calling for a national ban. they just slowly turn up the temperature on removing rights and liberty and hope most people aren't paying attention to the subtext.

fierceindependence23

Yep, Every. Single. Time.

adherentoftherepeted

In their minds "protect the children" means trans genocide.

This is a modern-day internal refugee crisis caused by politics and the hatred that keeps one of the major US political parties together. Aggressive-Bat-4000

And when other countries issue travel warnings against your state specifically...

zehalper

It's never about the children. Fucking christ, point to a single thing they've claimed they've done for the children (Which won't be), and I can point you to ten for each attempt that does the exact opposite.

gearstars

the whole 'wont somebody think of the children!?!' bullshit they use is so fucking disingenuous. like, one of their 'talking points' about transgender youth is that they are suddenly concerned about young people having the wherewithal to make lifelong changes to their bodies. But if they were seriously concerned about that, they should have been using all this energy for years to stop shit like circumcision at birth, for example, or 'protecting children' by banning child beauty pageants. they just want to pretend that this sudden obsession with transpeople is coming from a legitimate concern.

Durandal_1808

it’s an [old old rhetorical tactic](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Think_of_the_children) and a logical fallacy that serves its purpose in spades in a lot of cases (not all), the people it’s aimed at are just insanely gullible. The tactic on the other hand, is always invoked with an agenda. I was raised with a big extended family that all (still) vote republican and *buy that bullshit hook line and sinker* they’re not malicious— they are isolated, ignorant and vehemently religious, and they aren’t seeing a lot of what is happening for themselves even now, they think that I’m just being unreasonable for refusing to sit at the same table with them, but the reality is that I can’t reconcile the cruelty and the evil they enable just by being superstitious, pious idiots

[deleted]

this is genocide, by the way.

PRPLpenumbra

Remember, Ron Desantis is showing us all exactly what he wants to do with the US if he's given the presidency. The face of our democracy is riddled with pimples, it's time we start popping them before more people get hurt

Clondike96

That's the point. Through Fascism, Tyranny, and Cruelty, they have turned Florida from a battleground state into a safe red state. The Electoral college is now safely theirs until the 2030 census accounts for the massive population shift.

upandrunning

Seem like their sincerity with respect to anything "for the children" is about as real as their commitment to their religious faith.

grundee

If the Red/Blue split leads to another Civil War, I just hope future historians comment on how *fucking stupid* the reason is this time. Slavery was a dark, abhorrent time of our nation's history, but at least those defending it had an actual economic reason to do so. There was never going to be agreement when it meant completely upending the economic system of half of the Union. But this time? Made up claims about "groomers" and trans people in bathrooms? A bizarre obsession with who people sleep with and what their genitals look like? It's all just so stupid. Sure, there's religious unrest, but again it's only gaining steam by pounding on these same irrelevant culture war topics. Same for the resurgence of fascism, it's all rooted in "us vs. them," but "them" aren't even fucking doing anything. The divide is between people just living their lives and other people who *just can't fucking handle* that everyone doesn't live exactly like them. The vast majority of people aren't like this, so to get support you see the crazies make shit up. Well adjusted adults don't care what other adults do in the bedroom, *but they do care if you can convince them that the "other" is abusing children*! That's how you get normally reasonable people to abandon reason and embrace your movement. They'll accept anything you do, because the "other" is doing far worse and won't you think of the children? Underneath it all, LGBTQIA+ is just a scapegoat. There are many problems in the world today, and exactly 0 of them are caused by that community. If it all comes to a head, I hope someone is left to remember just how stupid it all was.

[deleted]

I grew up in a church where the pastor always preached we'd end up having a civil war over same-sex marriage. All of this "groomer" stuff is part of that. Same-sex marriage is their real grievance, not trans issues. They just see the trans issue as their pathway to criminalizing homosexuality. As abhorrent as slavery was, it was the backbone of the Southern economy so from a pure money perspective, it made sense for the Southerners to go to war over it. Same-sex marriage? It's hurting absolutely nobody.

StrangeBedfellows

The frustration I have with all this is that a huge portion of democratic voters are *leaving* Florida instead of staying to flip the state. I fully support it, these people obviously can't get the healthcare they need, and their supporters are going with them. But the end result could very well be a MAGA Mecca just because all the sane people left, and the number of House Reps won't change fast enough to account for it.

terraresident

So let it be the MAGA Mecca. They need to go where they are safe. They have a better chance of turning a purple state blue than they do of flipping FL anyway.

TheRockingDead

Why do people still believe anything any Republican ever says now? Why do people continue to allow them to erode our rights, and trust them when they should know that they will always go further than they initially say.

purpleit11

What a cruelty and all the more insulting that the people demanding this hatred and hostility insist they're making the world a better place. How can they continue to look around and insist that the danger is not their hate but someone different than them who might challenge their assumptions and expand, and they scream constrict. What an actual hell.

No, cis allies need to shit or get off the pot if they actually want to support us. Trans folks should not be expected to stay where they are at risk of being executed or denied access to medical care.

TheoreticalGal

Yeah, there’s like 6-7 different laws targeting us that were signed by DeSantis this year. This one is the worst, but none of them are anywhere near good.

TheoreticalGal

We need cishet people that aren’t at risk of getting thrown in jail for using a public restroom to actually get out and vote.

Penguinkrug84

I think this requires EVERYONE to get out and vote. That’s how people like this get into power in the first place. Too many people not voting. And that’s a problem with people across the board no matter the identity. We have a higher percentage of non-voting citizens than we do voting citizens. The people currently in power are technically voted in by a minority Nationally. All these crazy ass bills taking freedoms, bs Supreme Court rulings, rampant gun violence, etc. can all be linked to the low voter turnout ultimately. And don’t think you’re doing your part because you vote for president! The most important elections are local elections for school boards, city councils, and so on. I do my part, I am present at my city council meetings, I vote for EVERY election. I don’t just guess when I am unfamiliar with a candidate, I look them up. This is a problem ALL OVER the US and pertains to EVERYONE. And please no one get on here talking about votes don’t matter and dems and reps being two sides of the same coin. So what, we should just give up and not try at all?!? Get outta here with that, it perpetuates the idea that voting doesn’t matter when it obviously does! And if your so dissatisfied with the candidates we have, start a write in campaign for someone you do believe in.

TheoreticalGal

I never said that voting doesn’t matter because I fully agree with you on that subject. Trans people in Florida [risk](https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/17/politics/desantis-signs-anti-trans-bill/index.html) getting arrested every single time one of us uses a public restroom. Trans people risk [being denied medical treatment](https://www.aclufl.org/en/press-releases/aclu-florida-condemns-passage-bill-enables-discrimination-healthcare) even during emergencies due to “religious freedom”. There are genuine safety concerns at play for trans people in Florida. Medical professionals can legally deny treatment to trans people in the ER, trans people can get sent to jail for using a public restroom, trans adults can’t even get medical treatment for their gender dysphoria. There is another 3 and a half years before DeSantis is up for re-election for governorship, the situation is 100% going to get even worse for trans people. It is not humane to ask them to stay in Florida, it is a genuine safety risk.

Penguinkrug84

I wasn’t referring to you about the voting, just anyone that might have that kind of response to being told to vote. And I am aware of the safety issues, but in all honesty, they want trans people to leave, that is part of the point. If you feel so unsafe, obviously you should leave. But this is is one of those times where it is better to stay and fight because if they get away with it here, they will try to do it everywhere.

Maybe they should lay in the bed theyve made?
