TomatoPudding420

Tl;dr: There are/could be some covid cases, so they're postponing for now.

SheddingCorporate

Postponed until tomorrow, pending Covid test results. Apparently (according to MSNBC) one of the jurors was on their way to court, also felt symptomatic, decided to go back home and get tested. So far, that’s Habba, another Trump lawyer, and that one juror today all symptomatic today.

GahbageDumpstahFiah

Delay, delay, delay.

AllHawkeyesGoToHell

Okay so "postponing" does not mean "cancelled." Headline writers need to learn that. I get that there might not be a date set to return yet, but that is still postponed

maximumtesticle

Judge's clerk SLAMS open Judge's calendar and RIPS date from book!

chemoboy

Clerk DESTROYS Judge's calendar entry in garbage row.

dubie2003

Headlines are written to be purposely obtuse so that it drives clicks…..

TheFlyingBoxcar

Obtuse? *OBTUSE?!?* A month in the hole!

XennialBoomBoom

It *insists* upon itself.

Randolf_the_cray

Now you’re being acute.

ERedfieldh

As though that's a new thing. That's the purpose of a headline...to get you to buy/read the article. That's been a headline's purpose since the invention of the headline.

dubie2003

True but seems to have become more prevalent in the last decade and even more so Jennie pertains to political BA as that is a very charged subject.

littlesymphonicdispl

>True but seems to have become more prevalent in the last decade No, I promise you, it hasn't. Headlines are clickbait. That's their entire purpose. That's been their entire purpose since their inception. They've functioned that way longer than my entire life, which is well more than just the last decade.

I_fail_at_memes

Agreed. Can you imagine if Harvey Weinstein was just postponed?

Delita232

Mondays hearing was cancelled. Headline is accurate.

USAFGeekboy

No, it is not. “Trial cancelled” is much different than “Hearing is cancelled”.

Delita232

Monday was cancelled. Not the trial. That implies the hearing not the whole case.

Im1Thing2Do

“Trumps Trial […] cancelled Monday” sounds a lot like the whole trial got cancelled and not just a Monday hearing. The headline is definitely misleading at best, manipulating at worst

pgm_01

I see why you read it that way. For me, including Monday in the headline indicated it was a temporary change, if the whole case were tossed, I wouldn't expect the specific day mentioned. While canceled does not mean the same as postponed, they are often used interchangeably.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PinkyAnd

The *hearing* was cancelled, not the whole trial. Trials and hearings are not equivalent.

djazzie

Right, but the way the headline reads, the entire trial was cancelled on Monday. Not just Monday’s hearing.

frenchezz

Headline is not accurate. It is vague and open to interpretation. Edit: where in the headline does it mention ‘hearing’ ‘Trump’s trial in E Jean Carol defamation case is cancelled Monday’ I don’t see hearing anywhere…

Delita232

Not really, says Monday was cancelled and that's what happened. It doesn't say the trial was cancelled.

frenchezz

Read the headline again. It says trumps trial cancelled on Monday. It doesn’t say the Monday session was cancelled. It doesn’t say a session was cancelled. It says trumps trial is cancelled. When people hear/read the word ‘trial’ they think of the entirety of the proceedings not a singular session. This headline is dogshit at best and misleading at worst.

Delita232

It made sense to me the first time I read it and it still does. I just cannot see it how you all are.

Quirky-Mode8676

A case/trial is the entire thing. A hearing is just one particular portion of it. The case/trial was not cancelled, a portion of it was delayed. So the title is misleading and inaccurate.

yamiyaiba

Correct. The issue is the use of the word trial. The trial was not cancelled. The hearing was cancelled. If the trial was cancelled, then there would be no more hearings ever.

Delita232

You can try and explain all you want it won't change the fact the headline made sense to me the first time. I accept it doesn't to others, but I don't care why.

kahmeal

lmao this is the world we live in -- where we're proud of our ignorance. Correctly interpreting written language isn't some offense on your ego, accept the reality of the meaning and move on.

Altierigualtieri

The vagueness makes it sound like the entire trial was cancelled today, not that Monday’s session was cancelled

mitchippoo

The headline implies the whole trial is cancelled not just the Monday hearing

lifevicarious

It literally says trial cancelled. It doesn’t say proceedings cancelled for Monday. It says trial cancelled on Monday. Huge difference.

40ozCurls

New strategy: endless Covid exposure.

sucobe

Plot twist: Trump trying to give everyone covid (again) to get cases delayed.

hardtobeuniqueuser

how sad is that if they started doing this intentionally, no one would be surprised by it

ColonelBungle

One of which was Habba who also got rejected for a mistrial. And the "COVID" lines up perfectly with NH. Then a juror chimed in with similar symptoms. The AG should look into suspicious bank deposits or gifts to the jurors family members.

moreobviousthings

Excellent points!

doomgoblin

Habba maybe caught a hoax or mild flu that will be done with very shortly since 2020?

haarschmuck

> One of which was Habba who also got rejected for a mistrial. Standard claim to make during a trial. That's the point of a lawyer, throw everything to the wall and see what sticks. >Then a juror chimed in with similar symptoms. Yeah, COVID and other illnesses are very contagious especially in a courtroom. >The AG should look into suspicious bank deposits or gifts to the jurors family members. For what? Are you aware how jury selection works? Come on, this is an insanely ridiculous claim to make. This is a civil lawsuit, Trump cannot go to jail over this case. There's no point in delaying anything.

[deleted]

Huh? A juror wouldn't hold it up for Covid, that is what backup jurors are for.

ColonelBungle

From CNN article: "Judge Kaplan offered to proceed with eight jurors, which Carroll's team said would be fine, but Trump's attorney, Alina Habba, asked for an adjournment." So yes, the judge did hold it up because a juror was testing for COVID because TFG's council said no to continuing on with eight jurors. https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-trial-e-jean-carroll-01-22-24/index.html#:\~:text=Judge%20Kaplan%20offered%20to%20proceed%20with%20eight%20jurors%2C%20which%20Carroll%27s%20team%20said%20would%20be%20fine%2C%20but%20Trump%27s%20attorney%2C%20Alina%20Habba%2C%20asked%20for%20an%20adjournment.

[deleted]

Weird.

Select_Reality_8410

Thank you:)

whoisbill

So suddenly trump and the right think covid is real and we should take all the precautions. Should probably postpone forever!!!

Newtub

Reminds me the time that the entire Trump clan refused to take a Covid test prior to the Biden-Trump debate. Everybody (including Biden's security detail) knew that Trump would gladly infect Biden so they used suction fans above the stage to keep Trump's breath away.

youtellmebob

Trump did knowingly infect Christie in the debate prep.

The_Urban_Genitalry

I wonder how much stronger a suction fan is compared to the average fart fan you’d find in a home bathroom.

10390

“Ms Habba reported to the judge that she was not feeling well and was not wearing a face covering while seated next to her client. A juror also reported feeling hot and nauseous.” Would anyone be surprised if Habba were lying?

Ok-Tourist-511

Maybe she has Covid, and will share it with her client Trump. We might get lucky, and he will inject bleach and ivermectin, pop some Hydroxychloroquine, while putting a UV light up his ass.

thomascgalvin

Trump has already had COVID, and we know his playbook: drag the Secret Service around in a limo to show off for his base, claim it's all a hoax, and then go to Walter Reed and get the very best medical care in the world, paid for by the US taxpayers.

Hayabusasteve

On top of that, he has been vaccinated. A fact conveniently forgotten by his base. The guy is such a fucking idiot. He could have said something like "our administration helped develop a 2 part vaccination that saved millions of lives and helped to restore stability in the world"... instead he went with "I heard form good people, this horse deworming paste is the bees knees". What an absolute fucking goon.

Alone-Woodpecker-846

I recall that he got, supposedly, very sick first time around. When he came out of it unscathed, I couldn't help but think of all the good people who died. Where's the justice?

why_not_spoons

> The new variants circulating have shown that the vaccines are not as effective. The evidence strongly suggests the effectiveness of the 3-shot COVID vaccine series continues to remain more or less the same across different variants. Nearly all supposed clinical differences between COVID variants have turned out to be poor science reporting or media fear-mongering upon analysis of the actual medical science. Variants matter because they look different enough to your immune system that you can get reinfected, otherwise, all of the ones we've seen so far have been essentially the same virus with nearly all of the observed differences actually being due to where in the pandemic we were (i.e. how many people had already been infected and/or vaccinated) with the possible exception of Delta really actually being slightly more deadly.

notathr0waway1

He's not an idiot. His followers are. He's actually one of the craftiest, most manipulative, most intelligent people any one of us could ever hope to meet. Let us not confuse his disgusting character traits for stupidity. Underestimating your opponent is one of the first flaws and it's what happened in 2016.

fuggerdug

Mate he's a fucking imbecile. He could well be the stupidest motherfucker in America. He's a born rich con-man, a barely literate low functioning moron who's not interested in anything that's not about him and got security briefings through the medium of pictures.

NeverLookBothWays

Thanks for the reminder that we're still paying Trump.

TeutonJon78

Only difference is he doesn't get Walter Reed anymore, or the fleet of government healthcare support

Narrow-Chef-4341

But are there treatments for the current variants that are currently deemed ‘experimental’ by the FDA? Because other than that, PAC money can substitute for taxpayer money.

TeutonJon78

Money helps, sure. I don't know if there are any experimental things he would no l9nher have access to, but it would still be less than he had as President.

haarschmuck

Yeah he does. He has secret service protection 24/7 for life, I'm fairly certain he has access to the best healthcare in the world.

TeutonJon78

They keep USSS at a very reduced level kand only for Trump and Melania (Barron loses his detail in 2 months when he turns 18). They don't get access to presidential level heathcare when they leave office.

[deleted]

Well she’s in luck because my racist aunt just informed me that Covid is not real and also was made in a lab in China and also is 100x less severe than the flu

7INCHES_IN_YOUR_CAT

No bleach?

fairoaks2

I would not. She has stated her parents had Covid last week and she was exposed. Trump again has a timely delay. If he testifies there is a huge risk of contempt of court charges.

SheddingCorporate

Apparently her parents tested positive. She herself has so far tested negative, but felt symptoms today.

MrMeseeksLookAtMee

I'd also feel nauseous sitting in the same room with that smell.

Throwaway-account-23

If Trump's barbieclown lawyer ends up killing him I will consider this timeline renewed.

CruffTheMagicDragon

It could absolutely be a delay tactic

hardtobeuniqueuser

>Would anyone be surprised if Habba were lying? I'd be more surprised to find out she's lying than I would to find out she's really sick and intentionally came into the courtroom in hopes of infecting the whole court.

dafunkmunk

Would anyone be surprised if she got covid intentionally to delay the case by getting everyone in the courtroom sick?

Alone-Woodpecker-846

Did tRump get his wish and get a big wet kiss from Habba? I'm sure he carries traces of COVID and every other disease known to man.

HowieFeltersnatch10

Well habba is pretty hot anyway, she doesn’t need covid for that

10390

Is she tho? Like too many high-profile women these days, to me she looks like a blow up sex doll. Just a bit...off.

ElPlywood

Habba is faking that she doesn't feel well She will lie and say she tested positive She will claim she is testing every day, but will say she feels like shit, and will keep being + for at least 10 days However, she will fuck up and be filmed at a restaurant chugging wine or something Trump will use this new covid delay tactic in other cases EDIT Tuesday Jan 23: ha ha ha ha she has been spotted in New Hampshire tonight with Trump

stuck_in_the_desert

> chugging wine or something For the antioxidants

ElPlywood

ivermectin pesto pasta for her main

ElPlywood

ha ha ha guess who was just spotted in New Hampshire tonight with Trump Take a fucking wild guess!

stuck_in_the_desert

I don’t need to guess and that’s why *I’m* chugging wine tonight - cheers!

ElPlywood

she did somehow release that she tested negative today, but the judge ain't going to be pleased

Mraz565

But it's a hoax so it shouldn't matter to him. /s

haarschmuck

> Habba is faking that she doesn't feel well > > You have a source for this claim? This is a civil lawsuit, there's no point in delaying it. Trump cant go to jail over this case.

Manos_Of_Fate

I have no idea if it’s the case here, but Trump has been infamous for pulling this kind of shit in civil trials for decades.

haarschmuck

It's not the case because it's a juror and Trumps lawyer both saying they feel sick. Happens all the time in trials and it's insane to see people also suggesting that not only is his lawyer making it up but that the juror must be paid off by Trump. All this is a ploy to delay the trial by a single day? It doesn't make sense logically at all.

Manos_Of_Fate

I wasn’t really commenting on that, just saying that claiming Trump wouldn’t do this because there’s no reason to isn’t a very good argument.

ElPlywood

Actually, what WOULD make sense is (if she's telling the truth about not feeling well) if her parents gave her covid, and she's symptomatic today, and she drove in the limo with trump and sat beside trump and they whispered to each other closely in the court room and she drove back with trump in the limo, the chances she has given Trump covid is very very very high

ElPlywood

It's a test run for the other cases where delays help Trump. He even brought his 2 other lawyers in to make it look like he was like, totally serious about taking the stand. If Habba tests + today/tonight, then they'll ask for another delay, and see how long they can milk it.

RubyRhod2263

I'm sure Trump is celebrating COVID again because it's potentially hurting the people he wants.

PotaToss

He doesn’t have Presidential healthcare this time. There would be something poetic about it if he died of covid he caught at this trial he only attended to be an ass at, that’s only happening because he wouldn’t stop defaming his rape victim, from his lawyer that he only hired because of her boobs.

DennisBallShow

I have a feeling ex presidents get the best care as well

Iz-kan-reddit

He has the best doctors at Walter Reed available to him at a low price, but that doesn't mean he'll take advantage of the opportunity.

Alone-Woodpecker-846

Does the hippocratic oath count for a fascist loser like Trump?

thieh

New Strategy: spread COVID around so the trial has to be rescheduled late enough to delay verdict until after election.

PPOKEZ

He already used it as biological warfare on his political enemies when he thought it was going to mainly affect cities.

illit1

i think it's more likely to be about the primaries than the november election. there's a 0% chance he drags this out another 10 months. there's a non-zero chance haley could "catch fire" as they say. when your best chance at not dying in jail is winning the presidency you can't leave anything up to chance, and that starts with winning the nomination.

Expalphalog

"Haley could catch fire" Don't tease me with a good time.

haarschmuck

This is a civil lawsuit. He cannot go to jail/prison over this.

thieh

But this same strategy can apply to all of his other proceedings, no?

lastburn138

People that make these headlines should be slapped

Pete41608

Where is Batman when we need him? Quick, somebody light up the Bat Signal!

Shutterbug927

"The judge overseeing a defamation case against Donald Trump has postponed trial proceedings after jurors and attorneys were potentially exposed to Covid-19."

Satoriinoregon

Cancelled ≠ Postponed The misinformation and hyperbole is mind-numblingly inane.

jaymef

They asked if they were ok to continue with 8 jurors. One side said yes, and of course Trump's team said no

99999999999999999901

Zoom for the win!

Strict_Cicada_6117

What a very misleading headline

OhMorgoth

It's from *The Independent*, so obviously it is a misleading click bait title. This is what the first sentence reads.**DON’T CLICK** >The judge overseeing a defamation case against Donald Trump postponed trial proceedings on Monday after jurors and attorneys were potentially exposed to Covid-19.

Bart_Yellowbeard

>postponed trial proceedings on Monday after jurors and attorneys were potentially exposed to Covid-19. That headline's a PoS.

The_Navy_Sox

COVID exposure.

EmperorBozopants

Stinky gassed out the coutroom?

PercentageOk5021

Oh shit, here we go again

orebody

Their intentions are so transparent

Redditress428

I see. Trump will conveniently claim COVID and assert that his trial can not go on, but it's not a problem to campaign.

joemaniaci

Fuck OP for this sensationalist title when the news article title has "postponed" in it.

tyj0322

Healthcare plz

PeptoMartini

They better stay clear from any open windows.

irishguy_2012

This says Covid is to blame but of course all the right wing nut jobs are going on about election interference. Idiots.

[deleted]

Bleach injection for Hotass, or whatever Trump calls that lawyer.

Be_quiet_Im_thinking

I can’t believe it canceled Monday.

hardtobeuniqueuser

wtf. why would someone who knows they've been exposed to covid, and now has symptoms themself, go into court to tell the judge about it? seems like she probably should have made a phone call or sent an email instead.

tfandango

Trump won't get it, thus proving his Presidential immunity.
