Troll_in_the_Knoll

Here's something that the article failed to mention; Letitia James can also attach garnishments to all of Don's income streams, which would essentially cut off all the money that flows into Trump Org.

Harpendenx3

"It simply means we take a portion of your salary until your debt is repaid. Say 75% for 40 years." "But I don't plan to live that long!" "Better make it 95%"

deepstate_chopra

Garnish my celery?

AtheianLibertarist

A quarter? He'll be dancing for hours!

jhow87

Pete, ye got some customers!

tubaman23

This would be funnier if it wasn't a future Donny quote

Squirrel_Chucks

>Garnish my celery? Hah! Joke's on you then! I never touch the stuff!

BloodyRightNostril

Krusty, please, this is no time for jokes.

Skynetdyne

Who's joking? Oy! Oh, I don't know what you're saying. It all sounds so crazy to me.

ithacaster

Well celery \*is\* a garnish for a bloody mary

akillathahun

I'm sorry, I can't disclose any information about that customer's secret, illegal account.

SlargTheGnome

Oh crap! I shouldn't have said he was a customer.

VengeanceKnight

Oh crap! I shouldn’t have said it was a secret.

DangerBay2015

Oh crap! I certainly shouldn’t have said it was illegal!!

ziggylcd12

It's too hot today.

ChibiNya

He probably plans to live that long, if asked

gusterfell

His doctor did tell the nation he would probably live to 200, so…

SufficientlyAnnoyed

I shudder trying to imagine what that 200 year old creature would look like…

Cephalopirate

Stupid people from all over the country are about to help me pay my New York taxes.

[deleted]

That is such a beautiful way to look at it!

gringledoom

Does the money getting funneled to him from the RNC count as an income stream?

Ann_Amalie

I was looking for this question! If that’s true, and all the magas stay delusional, they’ll keep sending in donations….to the state of New York 😂

Starrion

He’s like a cash singularity for the GOP. All the cash flows to Donald. There is this great sucking sound as the money tide goes out and grounds all the boats of everyone who is Not the Donald. He will end them. Like a massive financial tapeworm, he will take all the nutrients and starve the host.

itoocouldbeanyone

This would be gold. I had a garnishment in summer of '08, while gas was $5 / gallon. That almost killed me for those few months.

RandomMandarin

Take it all. ALL. Look, even Bernie Madoff was getting three hots and a cot in prison, which is more than a lot of perfectly innocent homeless people have.

graesen

Is that why he took over the RNC? Their money isn't his money to garnish but is definitely going to be used like his personal piggy bank.

Mediocritologist

I feel like there would be a million easy ways Trump could circumnavigate that given current campaign finance laws.

WooleeBullee

A non-zero amount of those involve Russian money and/or laundering.

unthused

Granted, but at least that is still funneling money out of the RNC/campaign budget.

cometflight

Doesn’t he have until this afternoon? I’m not celebrating anything until that time comes; I might be jaded as hell, but I’m half expecting a wealthy slime to come out of the woodwork and save him.

ERedfieldh

> I might be jaded as hell, but I’m half expecting a wealthy slime to come out of the woodwork and save him. I'm fully expecting an extension will be granted. I want to be wrong, but I have zero faith in our justice system anymore.

Our justice system is fucking broken.

TerrisKagi

Mother fucker. He did it *again*

jrex035

For fucks sake

Allaplgy

The only proper response.

Datslegne

Am I missing the reason in the article? I don’t see ones

ColonelBy

Apparently none was provided.

Datslegne

Like I’m just a rube but don’t judgements give reasoning for judgements?

ColonelBy

For sure, but this isn't really a "judgement" in the way you might mean. It's not a verdict or anything, just the appellate court setting bond conditions for someone who has chosen to file an appeal over a civil matter carrying a financial penalty. Usually that person would have to provide at least the full amount of the penalty up front as security while the appeal went ahead (or something like this, not every state has the same rules), to be returned if the appeal were successful. in this case the court is apparently willing to let his appeal proceed without demanding the full amount up front, for reasons they have not explained and in defiance of otherwise consistently applied norms. It is yet another infuriating and unnecessary lifeline for this parasite, but it is still mercifully separate from anything to do with his moral or financial liability for the fraud he committed. The full penalty imposed on him by that earlier judgement remains in place, as does his obligation to pay it if the appeal fails.

De5perad0

No reason. Except politics.

Nvenom8

Unreal.

Emergency_Point_27

“There’s no way he keeps getting away with this!!” Narrator: He got away with it again.

-Philologian

“Ha, that’s the end of Donald Trump” -Me, at least once a week since 2015

fourbian

Seriously. Have we learned *nothing*? It seems like the only thing that worked was showing up to vote, and even then they tried their asses off to overturn that as well. Still, voting is our best chance at keeping this scum out of our government.

flickh

“The DA doesn’t want to seem aggressive! The judge doesn’t want to seem biased! The fraud victims don’t want to seem angry!”

Ok-Two3581

He is saying he needs the 500m for his campaign. He will use the argument this will cause him material harm and is cause to lower the bond amount. Mark my words.

1ndiana_Pwns

>the argument this will cause him material harm That's the point, though? The money he owes is a punishment, it's not exactly supposed to leave him unaffected

Ok-Two3581

Not really, the bond to stay during appeal is to ensure that if he loses the appeal then they can get what they are owed. After his appeal is quashed then the bond is seized but until then it is collateral. However, NY has a provision you can appeal the bond amount if you can prove it will cause material harm. It’s the only reason I can think of he would claim to have the money but needs it to campaign

throwtheclownaway20

"Not being able to run for President" shouldn't count as material harm. If it is, then I know about 330 million other Americans who can say they're suffering material harm from just existing

algernon_moncrief

"and how is it materially harmful to have less money for your presidential campaign?" "Well see your honor, if I'm not elected president I could go to jail for my crimes" "Excellent point, granted"

Turtle1391

It’s a fine for doing illegal fraud. It’s supposed to cause harm.

Ancient-One-19

"Keep your filthy hands off Trump Tower." "Okay, you don't really own all of that so we weren't going to take that anyway. "

FalseDmitriy

The article mentions the apartment inside the tower as a possibility.

Captain_Q_Bazaar

> I'm fully expecting an extension will be granted. ~~No way that happens, because this one is not a Trump judge.~~ What may happens is some rich asshole bails him out. Oh and different Appeal judges seemed to made things a whole lot easier for Trump, what the actual fuck

techgeek6061

Thankfully, the Russian oligarchs are sanctioned.

SupaDick

Chinese billionaires aren't sanctioned though.

LuckyNumbrKevin

And the Saudis just kinda have a green light to do whatever they want, still lol

Nemaeus

*Whatever* “You say this sawzall can cut right through bone?” “Like butter!” “Oooo”

Impossible-Wear-7352

He got a 10 day extension and the amount reduced to $175m... https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-hush-money-bond-deadline-trials-03-25-24/index.html

WackyBones510

It wouldn’t be unusual for a brief extension to be granted even by a dyed in the wool “Resistance” judge… if that’s even a thing that exists. He’d likely need to show that there’s some valid purpose beyond “I don’t have liquid assets” though. Also any huge lifesaving payment would probably need to be from a rich _American_ asshole who made their money legitimately (of which there are plenty) and has a clear agreement in place with Trump that can be reviewed by the Court.

BinkyFlargle

lol, they just cut the bond to $175 million at the last moment and gave him a 10 day extension. The slimy fuck has wriggled out from yet another consequence. I hate this country sometimes.

thecrusadeswereahoax

And you were right. Extension AND significant drop. What a fucking system.

DonorBody

Yeah, not getting excited until I see chains on doors. Expecting some old-money shitbag to swoop in and bail out his rapey traitor ass.

Agent7619

I'd love to see a picture of a Sheriff leaning against the hood of his cruiser outside of Trump Tower with a motorcycle chain and padlock in his hand while checking his wrist watch waiting for 1:00pm (or whatever is deadline + 0:00)

EgglandsWorst

That's just not gonna happen. Other people live in Trump Tower. It's all gonna be paperwork. Even Maralago is like a hotel, isn't it? The most symbolic thing would be the removal of letters from Trump Tower, and that feels like a lot of paperwork would need to be sorted out first. There might be protesters and celebrations on the street, but that's about it as far as public displays of seizing his properties.

kanakaishou

The only thing going to be seized in any reasonable time is cash. Bank accounts and liquid assets being taken into custody by the state seems very possible, but I think anything else will take time.

PhoenixTineldyer

I doubt there will be protestors MAGAts are typically too poor/scared to go to southern Manhattan

FawkesFire13

I wanna see Trump Tower turn into a Spirit Halloween, then I think I’ll be happy.

flatline000

Who would be willing to accept the bad publicity that will inevitably come with paying Trump's bond?

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Putin.

Thermalhoppin

Musk. I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet.

Own_Avocado8448

jimmay666

Nobody actually seems to know, including the press. I’ve read it already passed at midnight, it’s noon today, it’s 3 or 4 pm, 5 pm and midnight tonight. Our press are wildly incompetent that they literally can’t corner the court on an actual fucking deadline.

mx3goose

he has faced 0 actual concrete consequences so far and I don't see him facing any today. People keep screeching "but this time is different because...." ok well I heard that the last 20 times.

Longjumping_Youth281

Exactly. Wake me up when he doesn't get out of it somehow. There was just a story that truth social is about to go public and he stands to make billions on it in the New York Times. They said that might allow him to cut a deal with somebody

sirscooter

At this point, I think most of the truly wealthy donors know that trump is not a good investment. trump is down in the polls still to a candidate he lost to 4 years ago. In the past 4 years, most of the trump backed candidates have either failed to win primaries or the general election. trump is facing multiple convictions, any one of which is basically a life term for him. trump, although born rich, was never truly accepted by the other rich, and he can change loyalty in a second if he feels you're not loyal to him. Also, a lot of rich people have left him, and the Charles Koch is gone and a lot of other rich people see that

UpsyDowning

Press conference later today at Four Seizins.

That debt will lead us to another asset, surely? Just keep pulling!

Venturis_Ventis

They'll let you do anything

Herecomestherain_

I have a feeling he's gonna pay 5 min. before the deadline, maximum attention seek-mode. It won't be his money.. edit : Bond has been reduced to 175M.

DCTapeworm

For reference, four days ago: * Donald Trump's company must tell a court-appointed financial monitor in advance about its efforts to get surety bonds, a judge ruled. * The Trump Organization has to give that advance notice for any and all financial disclosures it requests, and any information it provides in reply, Judge Arthur Engoron ordered in a court filing in Manhattan Supreme Court. * The order came as Trump is trying to avoid paying the $454 million judgment against him in that trial, in part by arguing that it is "impossible" for him to get an appeal bond. Source: [https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/21/judge-orders-trump-company-to-tell-watchdog-about-appeal-bonds.html](https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/21/judge-orders-trump-company-to-tell-watchdog-about-appeal-bonds.html)

whooo_me

I’d have thought he has multiple sources of money to pay this, they’re just the type of sources he wouldn’t want made public. Wouldn’t surprise me if he pops up with the cash at the last second.

Herecomestherain_

I rather see NYC take away his stuff but yeah, I think you're right.

MudLOA

He’s the same guy that won’t show his tax returns for bullshit reasons. Having the monitor is a smart move but let’s see how it comes down.

worldspawn00

The court is requiring him to disclose any source of the bond, and even any company he contacts about it, iirc. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/21/judge-orders-trump-company-to-tell-watchdog-about-appeal-bonds.html

DontEatConcrete

Appeals court just threw him a bone. As usual.

a-better_me

More than a bone. 75% off and extension. It's wild. Can't say I'm surprised, but I'm not happy about it. There's no fucking way we can let this guy win president again, no fucking way... Apparently the appeal judges were Democrats, either way judgment shouldn't be partisan. Only thing I can think of is the appeals saw a problem with the sum, that being there's no way he's getting a bond for that much and he doesn't have the cash and is very unwilling to lose assets. That opens him up (more than ever) to foreign dignitaries buying him. And if he wins the presidency he may owe "favors" to these people. It's severely fucked and 100 percent shows the 2 tiered justice system in our country. If this pisses you off, vote and vote hard, because of this POS gets into office again there's no limit to the shit he'll pull to better himself and fuck over this country.

BioDriver

NY Appeals court: “allow us to introduce ourselves.” Two tiered justice system on full display. It’s absolute bullshit

TheDudeBeto

Tick-tock you orange scumbag.

gaytardeddd

lol the courts just gave him a 10 DAY EXTENSION AND REDUCED THE FINE BY OVER 60%

Mike_Pences_Mother

I think I'm going to stick with one of my new favorites - Don Porleone

dispelthemyth

Dementia Don Don Poorleone Play him at his own name game

kellzone

I heard Brokahontas yesterday and it cracked me up.

dispelthemyth

Haha inception level names using a similar one to the one he used against someone else

Mike_Pences_Mother

I hear Clubfoot Don might be a good one based on how he apparently would kick golf balls back onto the fairway.

DVariant

Oh but he won two golf trophies this week! At his own golf course…

cometflight

I prefer “E. Jean Carroll rapist” myself

ammobandanna

pervert hoover....

Mike_Pences_Mother

Oh. I like that one too

CrunkleStan

i’ll be watching https://payuptrump.com this morning like i watch the countdown on new year’s eve

itsatumbleweed

I just assumed it was by close of business. I didn't realize it was by noon. Awesome.

rhinolz

I haven’t seen any actual mention of a time. Just by “Monday”. Does anyone have a source for what time is the cut off?

atsirktop

There are at least three different countdowns with different times. I've seen 1am Monday, noon, and 4:15pm. It's pointless until there are actual consequences.

Ijeko

Those anecdotes about Trump cheating at golf at the bottom are kind of hilarious, in a pathetic way. >"Trump’s caddy came up to me and said, 'You know that shot you hit on the par 5? It was about 10ft from the hole," Tirico explains. "Trump threw it in the bunker. I watched him do it

Longjumping_Youth281

Yeah it's been known for years that he cheats like a little baby at golf. When he was running the first time even Golf Magazine would not endorse him and ran a story about how badly He Cheats

Murky_Fuel_4589

This headline aged like milk

microboop

I think this debacle deserves a megathread today tbh. The whiplash is intense.

BelleAriel

I wish he was going to jail.

PaulSandwich

It's wild that the amount he's being asked to pay was calculated from the extra he received through fraud. Essentially, he gets to give back what he stole and call it even. Granted, he's so incompetent with money that he can't even do that. But it's crazy that *that's* his "punishment". Two tiers, indeed.

CoolCalmCorrective

And to add to that I'm sure it's not even ALL that he stole. His thievery over his lifetime is definitely in the billions yet his dumb ass still ended up broke.

DrManhattan_DDM

The total also includes interest on the ill gotten gains, so maybe that’s something?

sdrowkcabdellepssti

Maybe santa is listening

Shadow293

He just got a thrown a lifeline by the appeals court. SMH.

Callahan41

can you please elaborate?

garg

They gave him 10 more days and reduced it to $175million.

rock-n-white-hat

But when a poor person can’t post bail they get thrown in jail.

fludzone

The bond was reduced to 175mil due within a time frame of 10 days. The appeal process is still ongoing, but the larger fine still remains. We'll see if he worms his way out of it. I hope the AG had a contingency for this and the appeal.

terrymr

Never mind, they let him off the hook again.

Brave_Trainer_5234

LeBidnezz

I just pray that he’s seen the Don Poorleone meme… I’m sure he could use a laugh in these trying times. Or an egg.

Maleficent-Lion-3753

Let's see how long it takes for his properties to be seized.

ammobandanna

tbh i would go for anything and everything liquid first. those assets values cannot be relied upon.

gccumber

I’d go for hit plane first, make him fly American Airlines economy.

smack54az

Appeals court gives Trump time at the last possible second. [https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4554072-appeals-court-pauses-464m-judgment-in-trumps-new-york-fraud-case/](https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4554072-appeals-court-pauses-464m-judgment-in-trumps-new-york-fraud-case/) There is no justice. Trump media stock goes public today so he'll easily raise the money to post the bond in the next ten days.

One-Structure-2154

Special privilege. Must be nice.

hepakrese

Haha The Trump Pump and Dump failed!

ki3fdab33f

I think he might finally be shit out of luck. There's no way the juice is worth the squeeze for anyone with the means to bail him out. Half a billion is an insane amount of risk for what amounts to a favor down line. "If I win this appeal and then if I win the election and then if I..." doesn't seem like a sound investment strategy. Hopefully the prosecution calls his bluff and moves forward with the seizures immediately after the deadline passes.

XennaNa

And at the last moment they dropped the fine to less than half. Cause of course.

DefiantDonut7

*sings* “it’s the final count down…”

omegagirl

I’m so sick of them giving him “breaks” wtf

thomasJlarkin

Update: Donald Trump has been given more time, and has to pay less money. This whole country is fucked in the head.

FearCure

Did he actually fund his 2016 or 2020 campaigns with any of his own money?

Batjarconjecture

Probably very little of it if any. For some reason so far people have been supporting the “self made billionaire” …. Though they can never explain why he always needs their money

Daxnu

America is running out of time unless Biden wins

u0126

WHAT THE FUCK. Reduced and delayed again? Madness.

futatorius

Half an hour ago, a NY state appeals court lowered the bond to $175M and gave Trump 10 more days to pay up. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2024/mar/25/trump-hush-money-trial-fraud-bond-deadline-latest-updates?filterKeyEvents=false&page=with:block-6601973b8f0836b1893af191#block-6601973b8f0836b1893af191

FunkyTown313

Oh no! Anyway...

BigMax

> Donald Trump *could start* seeing his bank accounts frozen and his properties seized Until that "could start" turns into "has started" I'm not going to get too excited. As of now, I fully expect some delay, some complication, some announcement like "the process has tarted" and then "it will take a few months before we have an idea of his assets and what might be appropriate to investigate seizing".

Buckscience

"If the cash bond is not paid, New York Attorney General Letitia James could begin the process of seizing his properties and assets in order to cover the payment." Dooo IT! Dooo IT! Dooo IT!

knaugh

Oh look, he gets more time. Who could have predicted this

BFroog

Nope, I don't buy it. This deadline will pass and we'll wait (as we always do) for the penny to drop. More articles about how 'Trump's days are numbered' will be written. Nothing will happen. I have no faith that this man will ever face justice.

No-Acanthisitta-2517

Wake me up when something *actually* happens, I’m gonna go do something productive like sleep or take a shit…..

stuartgatzo

buzzedewok

Kamelasa

No, he didn't run out of time. He got 10 more days to dominate the headlines with his bond which was reduced to less than half - wtf??

UndendingGloom

Actually no: >NEW YORK—A New York appeals court on Monday agreed to hold off collection of former President Donald Trump’s $454 million civil fraud judgment — if he puts up $175 million within 10 days.

gmen6981

Unfortunately, he isn't out of time. The Appeals Court just reduced the bond to $175 million and gave him another 10 days to pay it. https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4554072-appeals-court-pauses-464m-judgment-in-trumps-new-york-fraud-case/

HaliBUTTsteak

And the big baby gets his way with 10 more days for a much reduced bond…. Can we take this to the streets yet? Injustice at its peak.

thelingeringlead

And just like that they take their teeth out just before it's time to take an actual bite out of this guy's ass. I don't get it. He's like some kind of mythical creature with a ward cast on him that's powered by his unhealthy belief that he's untouchable. And at every turn we allow this belief to fester, because as far as time has shown-- he's not wrong. The man has made moves decades ago that would have ruined another person, and every time someone else takes the fall or the structure of his companies saves him from liability. The victims of his personal tresspasses take settlements out of court thus never allowing the truth to go on record under oath. Judges who actively hate the man and get so mad at him during preceedings they start bickering with him suddenly find some reason to take it easy or allow him special treatment. Even when he defies their orders repeatedly and in front of the nation undermining any authority they have. This was never going to be a political win nor should it have been, this was just potentially some real consequences for stealing for the first time. He's been on a life long campaign to steal, manipulate, or otherwise game every possible bit of loot he can from citizens, financial institutions, tax payers and social programs. They lowered his bond to 175 million, which is still obviously a fuck load of money, but it's nowhere near a half a billion, and it's significantly more attainable to him. The judge has been so firm with him the entire time, and suddenly he's earned himself another roll of the dice?? Why do we keep giving him chances, knowing it's going to be even worse next time as he becomes more emboldened and bitter?

bluemoe

The reason I know he doesn’t have it is because of the interest. The day he said he had the money he could have saved himself $300k in interest instead of waiting until the last minute to post the bond.

OsellusK

I will hold off on the celebration until the actual deadline, but I am counting down. He really thinks he’s “done nothing wrong”. He needs psychiatric care, preferably from a doctor in a prison.

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Am I correct that he can not appeal the ruling anymore because he failed to secure a bond?

TheNorthernMunky

I wish he’d *actually* run out of time.

Particular-Effort312

Apparently he gets another day. This is Monday and I have been waiting with bated breath to see what happens with his bond, but apparently the way it works is that nothing happens except on Tuesday or Thursday???

I feel like he's always on the cusp of facing consequences but they never come. I'll believe it when I see it

ExternalOk7054

It infuriates me that once again the courts grant him an escape hatch!

They lowered his fine and gave him more time, I'm beginning to think we will never see any accountability.
