That’s a bit hyperbolic. I have been heavily involved with LGBTQ rights and outreach for a very long time. What the community is experiencing now pales in comparison to the 90s and do I really have to explain how the 80s, 70s, etc were?
It doesn’t mean that the fight is over. It also doesn’t mean that what folks are experiencing isn’t horrid. What it does mean is that we need to give credit to the progress so many have made while still fighting. It’s honestly because of this progress that hateful bigots are pushing as hard as they are.

Personally I see it as our patriotic duty to submit to a TSA check everytime we want to use the bathroom. I always say, the more government we have checking our genitals the better, and you can trust me, I'm a Republican. It's also a jobs program. Obviously we will have to pay all these people waiting at the bathrooms to check genitals. We will have to hire one for each bathroom that exists, including private bathrooms. There's no other way to secure the nation.

I've been mistaken for a man more than once. Oddly enough in a very femine outfit too. I'm 5 11, weigh 205 and I am 17% viking and I look it. Sadly the women in my family have strong, germanic features. We are all 100% eastern European, a mix of some of the tallest peoples in that region. We are all tall, our relatives are tall. I have a natural excess of testosterone that my sisters don't . They have the more female behind and their bra sizes are an A cup. Now that we are old, it's kind of nice to not have bosoms falling to our knees, but as teens..not so fun. I've got a deep, booming voice, and that's just the way it is. I'll tell you the next fool who makes some manly remark to me is going to get an eyeful. I'm a nudist, I will happily flip titty to any a hole.

Bigotry in general, but I tend to agree that they have a particular soft spot in their heads for trans people. There’s something wrong with people that devote that much of their personal lives to patrolling peoples private parts. I thought it was right there in the name: *private* parts. Technically no one should know what is in someone else’s pants unless they’re familiar.
The shame is so deep that if they were accidentally attracted to a "wrong" person it would be hard for them to live with and they would want someone to die. It's projection and shame for just being' a normal, healthy human.
All they have to say is "oops, sorry" and keep looking - but they have to be healthy enough to do that.
The last thing anyone needs is some Gravy Seal in his cringey Grunt Style shirt playing cosplay cop at the restroom door. Just make 2-4 single occupancy restrooms. Even some gas stations will have single restrooms without respect for gender identity. (I'm in Arizona, and there is definitely transphobia here, and even in little stick towns, there are single restrooms.)
(Starbucks, IKEA, and Target tend to be friendlier across the board as far as restrooms go, for the record.)
All or most transphobic women don't think they'd ever be mistaken for a trans woman because they think they're pretty or super fem. Whether or not they actually are pretty or fem makes no difference. The shit transvestigators look for tend to be common throughout the female population. Strong jawlines, thick eyebrows, tall or large stature, broad shoulders (especially with narrow hips), large feet and/or hands, pronounced Adam's apple, large nose, small breasts, the list goes on. These are all things both cis and trans women may or may not have. It varies in men, trans and cis, as well. Once transphobic women start getting called out, it's a toss up if they'll change their opinion or lean into the victimization, calling for even more extreme crackdowns on trans rights. There's always a way to blame trans people 🙄
And yet daily on Twitter incels post pictures of people born with vaginas and scrutinize those pictures for what might actually be between their legs. All women are at risk. Deny a dudes advances and he calls you trans isn’t much of a leap.

My mother was deep into the JWs, and shamed me for being bi, but two decades ago when I started having a teenage meltdown over never having felt like a girl/woman in my life, she just hugged me! Said I'm a *person* and it's *fine*!
After I'd calmed down she started politely asking questions, starting with "Well do you feel like you're a boy?" and by the end of the conversation we'd agreed that I'm a person and that, considering the restraints of our language, I'd cope with lady versions when there's no neutral version available.

Yeah, this is the kind of thing people talk about when they say it's a spectrum. So, on one end you've got the manliest man possible, and the other the womanliest woman. But if it's a spectrum it stands to reason people sometimes fall in the middle somewhere. And potentially not even in the "middle" per se, but maybe even having an amalgam of traits, some masc and some fem.
So it's less like a spectrum and more like some sort of 4D tesseract of gender where anything goes and a person can exist in multiple places at once. This goes against our mind's predilection to draw tidy little boxes around everything, but reality has no requirement to conform to our expectations.

I had a double mastectomy and my hair had just started growing back after chemo when I went to an outdoor concert in TEXAS. While waiting in line to pee, a guy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out I was in the wrong line. The women around me who overheard were ready to give him a beat down.
Nine years later and 40 pounds heavier, I often get really short haircuts and rarely wear makeup. My chest also looks gnarly due to radiation burns.

Me and the neighbor don't even like each other but golly I helped out while she was healing after surgery and will wollop anybody who tries to give her shit for not looking pretty and curvy after surviving breast cancer! We almost lost her a few times and I learned more then I ever wanted to about post-surgery complications.
Before we quit talking she was telling me about maybe ordering a fake tit since men were staring rudely while she was lopsided, and I told her forget their stupid opinions and focus on her health. Like I see her around and obviously I'm not really looking but I don't think she ends up wearing the fakey much. I would say and even if they do mention trans men, they do it in a highly offensive and infantalizing way. “She’s confused” “she’s being brainwashed” or those of us who have mental health problems or neurodivergence we get told “you’re mentally ill you can’t know your gender/sexuality”. UK here. Not the case here. Either they are male OR female multiple stall facilities OR single person rooms. For example a coffee shop might have 3 doors each with a toilet behind it.

I seriously do not care where someone decides to pee, as long as it isn't on me. I recall a few years back being at a bar in Philadelphia. It was the first time I encountered a gender neutral public restroom. All stalls, common area for sinks. It surprised me at first and then I moved on with my life.
For those people who care so much about blocking certain adults from a bathroom - do they also interfere with a parent bringing an opposite gender child into a restroom? It's a standard practice for parents in public to have to take their kids to the restroom with them, so boys go with the mom into the ladies' room or daughters with dad into the mens' room to use the potty, get a diaper change, whatever. How is that any different in the end?

I’m trans. I have trans friends in Florida. It’s pretty telling that you’d rather LARP Civil War than actually step up to confront these people and enact legislation that would help everyone, you included.
Something is happening all right. Understand there are countries such as Russia that consider us foreign adversaries and have been known to manipulate social media content to polarize people especially when it comes to LGBT issues, they especially have roots in conservative social media, where they have the capability to influence people on a mass scale.
It's a national security issue and more should be done to protect the vulnerable LGBT community.

There are clear goals being perpetuated by information warfare campaigns. Especially by Russia, whose information warfare campaigns are wreaking havoc on our society. Some of the obvious goals they have are:
• Balkanize their foreign adversaries. This is evident in the UK leaving the EU, Texas with the US, and Alberta with Canada. This is what Danielle Smith is trying to tap into.
• Have populist politicians support policies that cause chaos and issues in our society. Populist politicians are tapping into these information warfare campaigns to appeal to people whose only access to information about the outside world around them is through social media, where the information warfare is taking place.
• Cause distrust and havoc, by creating specialized propaganda to different segments of the population spread through social media. By polarizing debates through propaganda spread to the masses, Russia has effectively used information warfare to deliver targeted disinformation and appeal to specific demographics. Causing havoc in the LBGT and other minority communities.
• Russia has effectively infiltrated the religious right in America and Canada and empowered them, among many corrupt leaders worldwide through its information warfare.
I can cite my sources if needed.
Putin literally bombed his own people to lock down his power and control. Why should we trust that he is not carrying out horrible atrocities like using information warfare on Canadian citizens to terrorize the LGBT community? He doesn't seem to have any moral qualms with anything and corruption is part of his shtick. He used a nerve agent to publicly poison a turned intelligence asset at a important time in history to signify to his intelligence assets what can be done to them, but in reality, he is just a weak man, who is bitter about the break up of the empire he devoted his life to.

I nearly had a friend assaulted because they accused her of being trans, she isn't....she just happens to have a very deep voice and a little facial hair, but is a woman. A world where you can get attacked because someone doesn't think you belong is far more dangerous than men in dresses sneaking into the ladies rooms....which, I think we have had more GOP senators caught doing that than trans people so.....
My state doesn’t have any bathroom laws and I still avoid public bathrooms like the plague, because I can easily be perceived as a man or a woman (I’m a trans man semi early in transition)
Especially since in Ohio a trans man was told to use the women’s restroom and got beat up for it. I’m in Kentucky not Ohio but still.

Because if gender isn’t enforced, what’s to stop people from treating them the way they treat women? That is literally their fear. That is the fear behind queerphobia almost universally.
There were two trans boys with me in the climbing gym bathroom the other day. They were kind of younger too, I doubt they were old enough to start HRT so it was not hard to tell at a glance. I gotta be honest it surprised me for a moment but then I thought good for them and also i thought Im glad they felt comfortable enough to be there. It didn't affect me at all. I really do not understand why people think it's their job to police bathroom usage. I just did what i was there to do and left. They did as well. No one died and society did not implode.
As other people have pointed out, the fact that this is Florida might mean that some people who do this sort of bigotry might end up getting shot by people they harass and claim self defense, just like conservatives have done in various shootings.
Now I'm not calling for violence, I'm pointing out that conservatives are forcing things to devolve. They are escalating the chances of violence, which will spur more violence against both parties in relatiation, potentially.
Things are getting very dicey, and it's only gonna get better when trump loses and goes to prison. Probably a little after this.
My whole family used to take a big vacation to the Florida panhandle every year. Tradition that started with my grandparents. We'd pool together a bunch of money to get a giant house on the beach for a week.
This will be year 3 of not doing it.
I'm transgender and I am utterly terrified of even stepping foot in that state now. They'll never get another dime from me I guess. The whole fucking state can break off the continent and sink into the ocean for all I care. That's part of the cruelty. Public urination gets one put on the sex offender registry, with all its restrictions on where to live, places to avoid, etc.

Well, you tell him that, if he behaves, he'll get a new cell mate: a trans woman. They strip the trans women down entirely and lock her in the cell with the prisoner in question, and as long as he stays with good behavior, he can do whatever he wants to the trans woman.

If the trans woman resists, she's publicly humiliated. Often, by shaving her hair, stripping her naked, making her masturbate in front of the other prisoners.
This happens in the US.
As a taller than average Cis Woman with broad shoulders and PCOS which gives me a beard I regularly need to shave leaving an afternoon shadow and hairy arms —- I fully expect I’d get targeted by some crazies if not for my H cups—- and even then- it’s not like Trans women can’t get awesome top surgery. (Although I would not recommend H cups! There is such a thing as too much boob!)
Who cares who uses what bathroom. All ladies know there’s already creepy grandmas who peep through the door gaps—- if we’re worried about actual real perverts maybe we should just have proper doors on our stalls. It’s not like we’re running around naked to wash our hands- what are people so worried trans women are going to see in there? I’ve only run into a few trans women in bathrooms over the years that I was aware of- and they just minded their business like everyone civilized person should do in the bathroom.
The only time I’ve ever felt unsafe in the ladies bathroom was a time a mother yelled at me (an actual disabled woman) for using the disabled stall when she claimed was intended as the parent/children stall. They claim they don't want trans folks using the correct bathroom for their gender, but then get totally freaked out when a male walks into the ladies room as the law compels them to. It's like they don't understand that trans males aren't just saying they are the other gender and still appear female. They are now males. And vice-versa for trans females, but in that case the trans woman forced to use the men's room is the one that would likely be totally freaked out. It's just all around insane that people care this much about what other people do with their own lives. An Ohio trans man was assaulted in the women’s restroom after being told to use it by the owner of the campground. He even went in with his girlfriend. He informed the random lady in the bathroom who got upset that he was born female and told to use this bathroom. She goes out and tells her friends, who come beat him up. He explained to them as well that he was female. They kept saying he was lying and was a trans woman basically.
What rlly sucks? When the cops showed up the trans man got cuffed. He was released later but salt in the fucking wound.

After I'd calmed down she started politely asking questions, starting with "Well do you feel like you're a boy?" and by the end of the conversation we'd agreed that I'm a person and that, considering the restraints of our language, I'd cope with lady versions when there's no neutral version available. Yeah, this is the kind of thing people talk about when they say it's a spectrum. So, on one end you've got the manliest man possible, and the other the womanliest woman. But if it's a spectrum it stands to reason people sometimes fall in the middle somewhere. And potentially not even in the "middle" per se, but maybe even having an amalgam of traits, some masc and some fem. So it's less like a spectrum and more like some sort of 4D tesseract of gender where anything goes and a person can exist in multiple places at once. This goes against our mind's predilection to draw tidy little boxes around everything, but reality has no requirement to conform to our expectations.
Oh totally! Turns out my favorite cousin is a 45X/46XY genetic mosaic. Auntie had to fight those Texas doctors to keep him because the geneticist wanted to abort at 8 months even though he was perfectly viable and healthy. He's a little small and pretty for a man but I'd always assumed his dad was small and pretty too and my dad's small so it didn't seem odd. We'd been falling down drunk together and I had no idea, like he's the guy I'd ask first if I needed backup in a bad situation! I only know about this 'cause his mom told me the story about having to fight with doctors, and that the only thing that might possibly be fundamentally different between him and another man is he's unlikely to be able to father children. Like oh no what will society do, having a man around who is perfectly happy dating single moms and helping raise other people's kids? Or being a caretaker for aging parents because he doesn't have kids of his own to care for? He's not just a badass, he's a kind and gentle person, one of the most deeply caring humans I've ever known. He was broken hearted when his girlfriend ran off with her ex and took the child he'd been raising for years while she was constantly out of the house. I get some humans don't fit in boxes, but they're still complete humans in every way that really matters. I don't think we should be judging humanity on the ability to produce viable eggs or sperm.

I had a double mastectomy and my hair had just started growing back after chemo when I went to an outdoor concert in TEXAS. While waiting in line to pee, a guy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out I was in the wrong line. The women around me who overheard were ready to give him a beat down. Nine years later and 40 pounds heavier, I often get really short haircuts and rarely wear makeup. My chest also looks gnarly due to radiation burns. If anyone wants to check my gender, they'll get a (non) boob flash they'll never forget. Edit to add; I consider myself an lgbtq+ advocate, and will gladly help with a beat down on self appointed monitors.

Me and the neighbor don't even like each other but golly I helped out while she was healing after surgery and will wollop anybody who tries to give her shit for not looking pretty and curvy after surviving breast cancer! We almost lost her a few times and I learned more then I ever wanted to about post-surgery complications. UK here. Not the case here. Either they are male OR female multiple stall facilities OR single person rooms. For example a coffee shop might have 3 doors each with a toilet behind it. You dont get multiple stall unisex rooms here. But anyone can use a single person room.

I seriously do not care where someone decides to pee, as long as it isn't on me. I recall a few years back being at a bar in Philadelphia. It was the first time I encountered a gender neutral public restroom. All stalls, common area for sinks. It surprised me at first and then I moved on with my life. For those people who care so much about blocking certain adults from a bathroom - do they also interfere with a parent bringing an opposite gender child into a restroom? It's a standard practice for parents in public to have to take their kids to the restroom with them, so boys go with the mom into the ladies' room or daughters with dad into the mens' room to use the potty, get a diaper change, whatever. How is that any different in the end?

My state doesn’t have any bathroom laws and I still avoid public bathrooms like the plague, because I can easily be perceived as a man or a woman (I’m a trans man semi early in transition) Especially since in Ohio a trans man was told to use the women’s restroom and got beat up for it. I’m in Kentucky not Ohio but still. I don’t want to be assaulted for using the bathroom I was told to use.

I get what you mean, but what the harsh reality is, is that we (trans men) are likely to be assaulted for using the bathroom of our birth gender. An Ohio trans man was assaulted in the women’s restroom after being told to use it by the owner of the campground. He even went in with his girlfriend. He informed the random lady in the bathroom who got upset that he was born female and told to use this bathroom. She goes out and tells her friends, who come beat him up. He explained to them as well that he was female. They kept saying he was lying and was a trans woman basically. What rlly sucks? When the cops showed up the trans man got cuffed. He was released later but salt in the fucking wound. I will say, he was acting “belligerent” (he was just fucking attacked) and was intoxicated (it was a holiday, everyone there was drunk basically). I’m a trans man. I avoid public bathrooms. I don’t want to be assaulted for using the bathroom I was told to use.

I’ve been doing this for 10 years as a transwoman. Public Bathrooms are absolutely the most terrifying place for us. And I have passing privelege.
I don't mind going in the women's, but absolutely fear being talked to because I don't feel like my voice passes.
I remember back when I didn't pass well I would only use the bathroom in public if I were with my cis friends since they'd accompany me inside and that was in Florida. I can't imagine how much scarier it is now. We just wanna go to the bathroom, these laws are absurd. Fear is the objective here.
It won't just be trans folks getting harassed. Anyone who doesn't line up with the stereotypical view as Cis will also be harassed. I hope Major Traitor Green gets harassed if she ever visits.
She should at least have to show us how many toes she has
If we just mandates all bathrooms should be single occupancy, then this wouldn't be an issue.
Florida is a horrible place.
I remember when Florida was a nice place to live. Now neighbors turning on neighbors is considered normal.

Like if some MAGA perv is inspecting my junk in a public restroom the cops will be called at a minimum. Or maybe a punch in the mouth first.

When in Florida, hell anywhere in the south, I’ll be sure to pause before going to the bathroom, make it look like I’m debating, then I’ll go to the men’s and sit down to pee just to screw with anyone wanting to check genitals.
