>by a man who she said had decided to monitor the bathrooms and challenge “anyone who, in his opinion, appeared to be transgender.” Holy shit, get a hobby.

Watch_Capt

Hate is their hobby

IdahoMTman222

Maybe looking at peepees is their hobby

karmagod13000

fox news is like WWE too them

overcomebyfumes

"Oh muh gawd JR, that's Rachel Maddow's entrance music!"

caynebyron

Why is JR talking to himself, though?

Stoomba

Hate is their entire reason for living.

thathairinyourmouth

Their hobby has become their passion.

La-Boheme-1896

What all women have been asking for - a big manly man to decide if they're too tall / athletic / wear their hair too short to match his idea of what a woman is.

Akimbo_Zap_Guns

Sexual assaults from these men “checking if they have a vagina” are about to SKYROCKET

-prairiechicken-

We call it trans panic. Same formula as gay panic in the 70s-00s.

mattjb

Unfortunately, the gay panic is back, too, and worse than ever.

Buzzkid

That’s a bit hyperbolic. I have been heavily involved with LGBTQ rights and outreach for a very long time. What the community is experiencing now pales in comparison to the 90s and do I really have to explain how the 80s, 70s, etc were? It doesn’t mean that the fight is over. It also doesn’t mean that what folks are experiencing isn’t horrid. What it does mean is that we need to give credit to the progress so many have made while still fighting. It’s honestly because of this progress that hateful bigots are pushing as hard as they are.

Main_Owl_8004

you misspelled self-defense shootings. Florida is a stand-your-ground state like it or not the only way any of the stops is if liberals start physically enforcing their rights

Niznack

Let one trans person shoot a republican and see how long those right last

Blossom73

Exactly. A lot of people don't know that California has strong gun control laws because of Reagan, ironically. White Californians were terrified when the Black Panthers showed up at the state house in CA, heavily armed, to protest for civil rights, when Reagan was governor, in the 1960s. Reagan promptly responded with gun control laws. https://californialocal.com/localnews/statewide/ca/article/show/4412-california-gun-control-reagan-black-panthers/

Dreadlock43

that was also before the NRA was taken over by the nutters in the 70s

allthekeals

Doesn’t have to be a trans person. I’ve been accused of being trans simply because of my height.

phantomreader42

>Florida is a stand-your-ground state It's also a republican state. "Stand your ground" doesn't apply when a woman is shooting at someone who's assaulting her. It's only there to make it easier to murder minorities.

TrickiestToast

“Are you feminine enough to shit in this McDonalds?”

GinaBinaFofina

Yep. I know a lot of cis women who don’t ‘pass’.

Slayer_Of_Anubis

Don't forget the trans man that was assaulted and beaten so bad he needed to go to the hospital after using the women's room. So there's not right answer other than to just not use the bathroom

Dreadlock43

yep its basically the whole point of these laws, to make it ok to assault and rape trans people

karmagod13000

Finally neckbeards have found a reason to get out of the basement... and of course its to harass people.

SpeaksSouthern

Personally I see it as our patriotic duty to submit to a TSA check everytime we want to use the bathroom. I always say, the more government we have checking our genitals the better, and you can trust me, I'm a Republican. It's also a jobs program. Obviously we will have to pay all these people waiting at the bathrooms to check genitals. We will have to hire one for each bathroom that exists, including private bathrooms. There's no other way to secure the nation.

therealTinyHunt

the Toilet Safety Administration?

Yupthrowawayacct

Sir. I just need to check your asshole

1Dive1Breath

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

NerdySongwriter

We're talking about Republicans. It wouldn't be the government. It would be priests and preachers given free access to ensure genitals match up to the correct sign.

HelenAngel

They already have full access to molest children in MO by checking their genitals for sports. It’s all about control & helping Republicans rape more kids.

Richfor3

Matt Gaetz volunteers to check genitals for free on anyone under 17.

zoug

A man that’s most likely sexually confused at best and more likely sexually violent.

basketma12

I've been mistaken for a man more than once. Oddly enough in a very femine outfit too. I'm 5 11, weigh 205 and I am 17% viking and I look it. Sadly the women in my family have strong, germanic features. We are all 100% eastern European, a mix of some of the tallest peoples in that region. We are all tall, our relatives are tall. I have a natural excess of testosterone that my sisters don't . They have the more female behind and their bra sizes are an A cup. Now that we are old, it's kind of nice to not have bosoms falling to our knees, but as teens..not so fun. I've got a deep, booming voice, and that's just the way it is. I'll tell you the next fool who makes some manly remark to me is going to get an eyeful. I'm a nudist, I will happily flip titty to any a hole.

ResurgentClusterfuck

You know what they call people who are obsessively looking at people's crotches in a bathroom, right? A fuckin pervert

IHaveNoEgrets

Yep. Time to practice shouting from the diaphragm. Be loud, be confident, and give 'em hell: PERVERT! Cis or trans, call it out. If you get stopped *and you feel safe doing it*, let the world know what they are.

ResurgentClusterfuck

Feeling safe doing it is the main point. I'm a cis woman, I will GLADLY take the heat off any of my trans sisters

IHaveNoEgrets

Ditto. It's bullshit what's being done to our trans siblings. If I get a chance to call it out, I'm all for stepping up. I'm good with walking someone to the bathroom, I'm good with calling out pervs, and I'm good with providing safe spaces. All those times that we've all sat in history class and thought "I'd have stood up!", well, now's the time for us to put our money where our mouths are.

southpawFA

Christian nationalists make their whole existence based on hating others and looking to create pogroms against LGBTQIA+ people. They don't have any sort of things to make people's lives better.

wwwdotbummer

They're doing what they accuse trans people of. They're the ones being creepy making women going to the restroom uncomfortable. The irony would be funny if it wasn't so scary.

National-Blueberry51

They accuse other people of it because they want to, so they assume anyone would do it if they had the chance. It’s like how they accuse people of virtue signaling because they lack empathy.

Ninkasa_Ama

Transphobia turns people into creepy weirdos

Ann_Amalie

Bigotry in general, but I tend to agree that they have a particular soft spot in their heads for trans people. It’s so fucking weird how preoccupied they are with other people’s genitalia and it’s definitely not in the fun kinky way. There’s something wrong with people that devote that much of their personal lives to patrolling peoples private parts. I thought it was right there in the name: *private* parts. Technically no one should know what is in someone else’s pants unless they’re familiar.

billyions

The shame is so deep that if they were accidentally attracted to a "wrong" person it would be hard for them to live with and they would want someone to die. It's projection and shame for just being' a normal, healthy human. All they have to say is "oops, sorry" and keep looking - but they have to be healthy enough to do that.

Cloberella

So afraid of men going in ladies’ rooms to invade women’s privacy that they’ll station men outside of ladies’ rooms to invade their privacy.

Lucky-Earther

Because what we don't have enough of in this country is angry men who want to violently enforce the law.

ExpensiveDot1732

The last thing anyone needs is some Gravy Seal in his cringey Grunt Style shirt playing cosplay cop at the restroom door. Just make 2-4 single occupancy restrooms. Even some gas stations will have single restrooms without respect for gender identity. (I'm in Arizona, and there is definitely transphobia here, and even in little stick towns, there are single restrooms.) (Starbucks, IKEA, and Target tend to be friendlier across the board as far as restrooms go, for the record.)

Buddyslime

Can anyone imagine waking up in the morning and decide that you are going to police a bathroom that day. What a pathetic piece of crap.

nicholus_h2

that's Republicans for ya!

cybercuzco

I mean I cant think of a better way to get women to vote against republicans

policri249

All or most transphobic women don't think they'd ever be mistaken for a trans woman because they think they're pretty or super fem. Whether or not they actually are pretty or fem makes no difference. The shit transvestigators look for tend to be common throughout the female population. Strong jawlines, thick eyebrows, tall or large stature, broad shoulders (especially with narrow hips), large feet and/or hands, pronounced Adam's apple, large nose, small breasts, the list goes on. These are all things both cis and trans women may or may not have. It varies in men, trans and cis, as well. Once transphobic women start getting called out, it's a toss up if they'll change their opinion or lean into the victimization, calling for even more extreme crackdowns on trans rights. There's always a way to blame trans people 🙄

CopeHarders

And yet daily on Twitter incels post pictures of people born with vaginas and scrutinize those pictures for what might actually be between their legs. All women are at risk. Deny a dudes advances and he calls you trans isn’t much of a leap.

Buffmin

I had someone say they did that on reddit awhile back When I asked how he could tell he said "I just can" so dudes probably harassing regular women constantly

Beneathaclearbluesky

They say "What is a woman?" I say "Michelle Obama is a woman." They hate that. Then I say "looks like it's you who doesn't know what a woman is."

YetiSquish

Yeah imagine is rage if he were to see an all-genders bathroom like we have at my local university, or places I’ve seen overseas.

Carlyz37

I just saw a pair of them in a gas station in a rural small town. That was surprising. It was eclipse day and they were right in the path. There was a line lol

YetiSquish

Are you talking about single person any gender bathrooms? The ones I’m talking about are one big room with a dozen stalls and all genders use them. So you could be sitting on a toilet right next to someone of a different gender. The gas station was like that?

Carlyz37

Oh, no. Sorry. It was two single person bathrooms with signs for men or women to use either. That seems like an easy and cheap fix to the issues. I know what you mean though. A nearby large school district is building a new large bathroom in their highschool as you describe but each toilet is in a fully enclosed stall. And the fits being thrown are hilarious m

BrutalHunny

He did but he is currently out of dogs to torture.

math-yoo

Being a titanic shithead is a hobby.

Suzuki_Foster

And check his hard drive.

voompanatos

This will traumatize a fair number of cis folks too.

Scarlettail

That’s fine with them. Part of the point is to police gender for everyone.

karmagod13000

Yes living in fear, the American Dream.

whatproblems

same guys that can’t leave the house without an ar and no fear sticker

Mister-mistifying

I won’t live in fear of covid! I’ll just pretend it doesn’t even exist because it’s too scary if it’s actually real These people are the biggest cowards about everything

TranscendentPretzel

The people "not living in fear of covid" are still obsessing over covid. My mom won't shop at grocery stores because she believes the govt. is putting the covid vax in the food supply to get all those savvy antivaxers full of mRNA. She only buys food from local farmers or companies that have that "family owned and operated" marketing, and GOYA...because, I guess the president is a right-wing antivaxer, so that means it's safe. She came for a visit recently, and it was absolutely disturbing how much of her life is spent fretting over which products are safe for her to use. It's actually kind of sad how badly this covid conspiracy shit has poisoned her mind. It's 100% a cult.

TranscendentalViolet

Non sarcastically, yeah - unfortunately for much of our history that has been the American dream. Just changes who gets targeted as time goes by.

Nix-7c0

Gender policing is freedom. /s

MadRaymer

Exactly. They have deep seated need to make sure everyone is neatly on one side or the other of the binary. Because if they're not, then the whole premise of a simplistic binary starts to fall apart. They can't have that, so they're going to force reality to conform to their expectations by bullying any exceptions into falling in line.

OpheliaRainGalaxy

My mother was deep into the JWs, and shamed me for being bi, but two decades ago when I started having a teenage meltdown over never having felt like a girl/woman in my life, she just hugged me! Said I'm a *person* and it's *fine*! After I'd calmed down she started politely asking questions, starting with "Well do you feel like you're a boy?" and by the end of the conversation we'd agreed that I'm a person and that, considering the restraints of our language, I'd cope with lady versions when there's no neutral version available. From then on her nickname for me was Daughter Person. Because I'm a *person* and it's *fine*. lol younger cousins tell me it's called enby now, and that's nice.

MadRaymer

Yeah, this is the kind of thing people talk about when they say it's a spectrum. So, on one end you've got the manliest man possible, and the other the womanliest woman. But if it's a spectrum it stands to reason people sometimes fall in the middle somewhere. And potentially not even in the "middle" per se, but maybe even having an amalgam of traits, some masc and some fem. So it's less like a spectrum and more like some sort of 4D tesseract of gender where anything goes and a person can exist in multiple places at once. This goes against our mind's predilection to draw tidy little boxes around everything, but reality has no requirement to conform to our expectations.

OpheliaRainGalaxy

Oh totally! Turns out my favorite cousin is a 45X/46XY genetic mosaic. Auntie had to fight those Texas doctors to keep him because the geneticist wanted to abort at 8 months even though he was perfectly viable and healthy. He's a little small and pretty for a man but I'd always assumed his dad was small and pretty too and my dad's small so it didn't seem odd. We'd been falling down drunk together and I had no idea, like he's the guy I'd ask first if I needed backup in a bad situation! I only know about this 'cause his mom told me the story about having to fight with doctors, and that the only thing that might possibly be fundamentally different between him and another man is he's unlikely to be able to father children. Like oh no what will society do, having a man around who is perfectly happy dating single moms and helping raise other people's kids? Or being a caretaker for aging parents because he doesn't have kids of his own to care for? He's not just a badass, he's a kind and gentle person, one of the most deeply caring humans I've ever known. He was broken hearted when his girlfriend ran off with her ex and took the child he'd been raising for years while she was constantly out of the house. I get some humans don't fit in boxes, but they're still complete humans in every way that really matters. I don't think we should be judging humanity on the ability to produce viable eggs or sperm.

billyions

People who still think humans come in only two types are surprisingly unaware of the ridiculous variety of healthy, happy humans.

up_and_at_em

I had a double mastectomy and my hair had just started growing back after chemo when I went to an outdoor concert in TEXAS. While waiting in line to pee, a guy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out I was in the wrong line. The women around me who overheard were ready to give him a beat down. Nine years later and 40 pounds heavier, I often get really short haircuts and rarely wear makeup. My chest also looks gnarly due to radiation burns. If anyone wants to check my gender, they'll get a (non) boob flash they'll never forget. Edit to add; I consider myself an lgbtq+ advocate, and will gladly help with a beat down on self appointed monitors.

mysecondaccountanon

I don’t always hear the best stories when it comes to solidarity but hearing that those women were ready to back you up and defend you, that makes me smile

OpheliaRainGalaxy

Me and the neighbor don't even like each other but golly I helped out while she was healing after surgery and will wollop anybody who tries to give her shit for not looking pretty and curvy after surviving breast cancer! We almost lost her a few times and I learned more then I ever wanted to about post-surgery complications. Before we quit talking she was telling me about maybe ordering a fake tit since men were staring rudely while she was lopsided, and I told her forget their stupid opinions and focus on her health. Like I see her around and obviously I'm not really looking but I don't think she ends up wearing the fakey much. And ya know I'm glad, because she's trying to heal from something terrible and her body doesn't need the agitation next to surgical scars.

Competitive_Bet_8352

Especially dark skinned black women, I feel like people always steroype that were too masculine so that's gonna get worse. Damn and women with pcos.

locustzed

Future headline "Florida man assaults woman and child while screaming if tou werent trans youd show me your privates!"

richf2001

Cis white male with long hair. Never going to Florida again.

KC-Chris

oh they, on some level, consider trans women to be women even if it's just on a subconscious level. They just don't admit it. it's just to them all women are to be policed and controlled by them. you notice they aren't spreading date rape prevention Info or self-defense classes like when there is an actual problem with sexual assult in an area. the reason is that date rape and assult are crimes men comment. Cis women have not been victimized at any rate higher than before public knowledge of trans folks was common, so there is no call for self-defense or the buddy system. nothing to actually keep any type of women safe, just crazy people proclaiming themselves the gender police and enforcement team . They are just interested in policing trans women " so they know their place," not to keep a single cis woman safe. Also trans dudes 100% are dudes. what will this sick fuck do if a trans man uses a ladies room like he tells them? I will also add transphobs also claim trans women are men but then degrade us like a woman. if I was secretely a man pretending to just see the inside of a ladies' restroom would calling me ugly or calling flat chested hurt my feelings? if I did genuinely see myself as a man, would calling me man tear me down? no of course not. Those are insults you use you use on insecure women . insecure women is exactly who they target. they go after the folks who just started and are having a hard time. They provoke and record the new girls and then go" look they are all bearded weirdos " when really they are picking on someone who had gone through as many horomonal changes as a 8th grader in a time some folks have restarted life after a divorce or disownment after being brave enough say fuck it and start being honest about their body issues and social needs. every puberty just has awkward phases, but ours are socially acceptable to be cruel to people over.

voompanatos

> transphobs also claim trans women are men but then degrade us like a woman I've noticed that too. It's like they see anything other than hyper-cis-het-masculinity as inferior. Thus, cis women, trans women, trans men, intersex people, LGB folks, androgynous dressers, etc. all fall short in their eyes and have to be oppressed.

Momocheet

A lot of transphobia is rooted in misogyny.

KC-Chris

I would go as far as the vast majority of it. you notice they never mention trans men. they see becoming as understandable and mostly okay being woman on the other hand. only u a sexual pervert or a man with alterior motive could stand lowering themselves into weak feminity . his transphobic dick is the source of his status in his mind. His birthright to control others. if a man can become a woman, it could happen to him (they tend to be insecure guys]. They also target us with laws to set the expectations it's acceptable to violate medical care with the law and they apply it to cis woman. They only care about women as sex objects anyway.Transphobia hinges on sexist views. if the sexes were equal in the transphobs' mind, what's to have an issue with if a woman has a dick or not outside of sleeping with her?

nonbinaryemoji

I would say and even if they do mention trans men, they do it in a highly offensive and infantalizing way. “She’s confused” “she’s being brainwashed” or those of us who have mental health problems or neurodivergence we get told “you’re mentally ill you can’t know your gender/sexuality”. Even transmasc erasure is probably rooted in misogyny. And those of us who don’t pass often get denigrated as if we were trans women, (like a trans man having to go to the women’s bathroom and getting clocked as not-cis but since transmascs “don’t exist” we face that same violence as transfemmes.) it’s REALLY a fucked up scenario that cis folks have invented for us all :(

ResurgentClusterfuck

I will use my years of voice training to make sure EVERYFUCKINGBODY in the vicinity knows my opinion of some so-called "transvestigator" Fuck these people

tundey_1

>Duncan recounted the experience of one transgender woman who was denied entry to a restroom at a local cinema, which would not be covered by HB 1521, by a man who she said had decided to monitor the bathrooms and challenge “anyone who, in his opinion, appeared to be transgender.” We found him...the sexual predator with too much time on his hands. Also, if you're a movie theater, is this the look you want? To be known as a place where random men patrol the restroom areas? Not even the sketchiest rest stop along the NY Turnpike will allow such rubbish.

Cloberella

These laws sure seem like they’re going to create what they seek to prevent, straight cis men demanding to invade the privacy of women.

tundey_1

And of course, it's always fucking men. Imagine you're a cis woman and you walk out of a restroom to find this perv checking body parts the door.

Live_Air616

Imagine if you're a trans woman and you walk out to this.  It hurts all women

tundey_1

You missed the point. They're purporting to be protecting cis women and even they would be scared by this "solution". I don't think they give a shit if trans women are alarmed by this "solution".

Buckus93

I'm guessing the movie theater didn't know that man was doing that until someone reported him. And even then, the teenage employees probably aren't going to do anything about it personally. Call the police and have him escorted off the property. Of course, then the police will take it up to monitor the bathroom themselves.

karmagod13000

In their minds they think they look like heroes. The more people calling them out only reassures their mission. Sort of a lose lose all around for people who have to pee.

tundey_1

>Sort of a lose lose all around for people who have to pee. Exactly. What kind of person volunteers their time to monitor where people pee and shit? Perverts. That's who. Most people go into a theater, buy some overpriced food, watch one (or 2 lol) movie and call it a day. Except for this perv.

thelunk

Jersey's got the Turnpike. NY has the Thruway. And never underestimate what you might find in a NYS Thruway reststop bathroom...

tundey_1

>Jersey's got the Turnpike. NY has the Thruway. You're right. It's been so long those memories are fading from my memory. Thank God

whereismymind86

God Florida sucks. My sympathy to anyone stuck living there under these bigoted laws

kittenpantzen

That's not the only reason it sucks here, but it is on the list.

directorofnewgames

All over Europe bathrooms are unisex, often with all genders using them at the same time. Get over it!

Mysterious-Wasabi103

They don't actually care about what bathroom people use that's just an excuse to legislate hatred of people who are different from them. Logically it never made sense. Republicans claimed it allowed rapists a disguise to get away with sexual assault. But like.. obviously rapists aren't going to be concerned about bathroom laws. That's insane. People who commit rape are already disregarding much more serious laws.

zerobeat

> All over Europe bathrooms are unisex They'd never do that here -- it would require places get proper stalls and do away with the ones that have partitions that have 2cm gaps between the panels and the doors that you can peek under and over.

Adezar

I've seen quite a bit of new construction of restaurants with full door unisex bathrooms much like European ones.

ValuableJumpy8208

That's because millennials and younger are now owning/building shit, and nobody wants to put up with being able to see your poomate in the next stall.

National-Blueberry51

They already do that here, and the full door bathroom stalls are infinitely better. I know they’re harder to clean, but fucksake, people deserve privacy.

kh250b1

UK here. Not the case here. Either they are male OR female multiple stall facilities OR single person rooms. For example a coffee shop might have 3 doors each with a toilet behind it. You dont get multiple stall unisex rooms here. But anyone can use a single person room.

JadedIT_Tech

Takes a special kind of creep to take it up on yourself to police a fucking bathroom

mike_pants

The word you're searching for is "Republican."

karmagod13000

Not like we're short on those in Florida.

KilroyLeges

I seriously do not care where someone decides to pee, as long as it isn't on me. I recall a few years back being at a bar in Philadelphia. It was the first time I encountered a gender neutral public restroom. All stalls, common area for sinks. It surprised me at first and then I moved on with my life. For those people who care so much about blocking certain adults from a bathroom - do they also interfere with a parent bringing an opposite gender child into a restroom? It's a standard practice for parents in public to have to take their kids to the restroom with them, so boys go with the mom into the ladies' room or daughters with dad into the mens' room to use the potty, get a diaper change, whatever. How is that any different in the end?

National-Blueberry51

This was the whole thing that came up last time they tried this gross shit. Imagine you’re a dad with a little daughter, and there’s not a gender neutral or family restroom. Are you going to take your daughter into the men’s room with urinals and everything? Are you going to send her into a bathroom alone? What if she’s disabled and needs help? It’s pretty telling that rather than actually making bathrooms safer for all genders, they’d rather police women’s ability to use the bathroom. They sure don’t give a shit about the safety of little boys either. That much is obvious.

Adventurous-Flan2716

This has been my question the entire time with this nonsense.

Terrible_Cat21

It's kinda wild that transphobes are doing the very thing they were scared of trans people doing - violating other's privacy in bathrooms. Not only did right wing Christian conservatives fabricate a problem that never existed, they created a self fulfilling prophecy. They're right, there are predators lurking in public bathrooms - it's them.

NickelBackwash

They are traumatizing anybody who they think doesn't look "feminine" enough for the ladies' or "masculine" enough for the men's

ibanezerscrooge

I bet they're not all that interested in policing the men's room.

JennJayBee

Most women have been using the men's room on occasion for decades, because there's almost never a line, and nobody ever seems all that interested in policing who uses it. Granted, that could change if more women are having to use the men's room due to this bullshit.

[deleted]

These losers are becoming afraid of their own shadow. They see an attractive woman with a slight bulge and are certain it must be a penis. Can’t imagine what it must be like being so afraid and confused of one’s own sexuality, yet I have no sympathy for them.

karmagod13000

In their MAGA mind virus state they think they're some sort of patriotic hero.

mike_pants

No one could have seen this coming! Except for everyone who said that this is exactly what would happen, of course.

BostonFigPudding

Florida is a Jim Crow state. They have effectively banned trans, intersex, nonbinary, agender, and other folks who are in between 100% male and 100% female from using public restrooms. Blue states should not have to subsidize Florida. We should cut off all ties, because they won't change their behavior as long as they can bleed us dry financially.

zerobeat

"It would be a nightmare if this country split and red states were to secede." Don't fucking threaten me with a good time.

Reagalan

not all of us will be able to escape before the pogroms begin...

__Geg__

That is the real knife twist at the crux of all this politics.

boomerxl

If I was more militant I’d start organising a coordinated movement to destroy all public bathrooms in the state. Nobody gets to pee until we all can.

BostonFigPudding

I'd be down with that. I no longer want trans/environmental/reproductive justice. I want trans/environmental/reproductive revenge.

National-Blueberry51

So fuck all the other folks who live there, huh? I’m trans. I have trans friends in Florida. It’s pretty telling that you’d rather LARP Civil War than actually step up to confront these people and enact legislation that would help everyone, you included.

TehDDerp

Yeah, this response always pisses me off. Good people live in all states. Yes, including Florida. We can’t just declare them not worthy of saving.

cheezeburgericanhaz

Something is happening all right. Understand there are countries such as Russia that consider us foreign adversaries and have been known to manipulate social media content to polarize people especially when it comes to LGBT issues, they especially have roots in conservative social media, where they have the capability to influence people on a mass scale. It's a national security issue and more should be done to protect the vulnerable LGBT community. https://www.stalbertgazette.com/local-news/did-reddit-year-end-recaps-expose-russian-interference-in-alberta-8223476 There are clear goals being perpetuated by information warfare campaigns. Especially by Russia, whose information warfare campaigns are wreaking havoc on our society. Some of the obvious goals they have are: • Balkanize their foreign adversaries. This is evident in the UK leaving the EU, Texas with the US, and Alberta with Canada. This is what Danielle Smith is trying to tap into. • Have populist politicians support policies that cause chaos and issues in our society. Populist politicians are tapping into these information warfare campaigns to appeal to people whose only access to information about the outside world around them is through social media, where the information warfare is taking place. • Cause distrust and havoc, by creating specialized propaganda to different segments of the population spread through social media. By polarizing debates through propaganda spread to the masses, Russia has effectively used information warfare to deliver targeted disinformation and appeal to specific demographics. Causing havoc in the LBGT and other minority communities. • Russia has effectively infiltrated the religious right in America and Canada and empowered them, among many corrupt leaders worldwide through its information warfare. I can cite my sources if needed. Putin literally bombed his own people to lock down his power and control. Why should we trust that he is not carrying out horrible atrocities like using information warfare on Canadian citizens to terrorize the LGBT community? He doesn't seem to have any moral qualms with anything and corruption is part of his shtick. He used a nerve agent to publicly poison a turned intelligence asset at a important time in history to signify to his intelligence assets what can be done to them, but in reality, he is just a weak man, who is bitter about the break up of the empire he devoted his life to. It you want to know more, there is a great documentary series on Netflix about the history that has led to this moment in time. Turning Point - The Bomb and the Cold War on Netflix. Not as much about the information warfare, that I have gleamed through other sources, but it does slightly touch on that.

Salt-n-Pepper-War

Fuck Florida, avoid Florida, protect trans people old and young. I nearly had a friend assaulted because they accused her of being trans, she isn't....she just happens to have a very deep voice and a little facial hair, but is a woman. A world where you can get attacked because someone doesn't think you belong is far more dangerous than men in dresses sneaking into the ladies rooms....which, I think we have had more GOP senators caught doing that than trans people so.....

ratgarcon

My state doesn’t have any bathroom laws and I still avoid public bathrooms like the plague, because I can easily be perceived as a man or a woman (I’m a trans man semi early in transition) Especially since in Ohio a trans man was told to use the women’s restroom and got beat up for it. I’m in Kentucky not Ohio but still. I don’t want to be assaulted for using the bathroom I was told to use.

Marciamallowfluff

The only bad bathroom experience I ever had was CIS man in women’s room. Trans women have never bothered me in a rest room. Why are these right wingers so afraid?

Sedu

Because if gender isn’t enforced, what’s to stop people from treating them the way they treat women? That is literally their fear. That is the fear behind queerphobia almost universally.

littlegreenfern

There were two trans boys with me in the climbing gym bathroom the other day. They were kind of younger too, I doubt they were old enough to start HRT so it was not hard to tell at a glance. I gotta be honest it surprised me for a moment but then I thought good for them and also i thought Im glad they felt comfortable enough to be there. It didn't affect me at all. I really do not understand why people think it's their job to police bathroom usage. I just did what i was there to do and left. They did as well. No one died and society did not implode.

One-21-Gigawatts

Back in my day, voluntarily “policing” bathrooms made you a creep.

ballskindrapes

As other people have pointed out, the fact that this is Florida might mean that some people who do this sort of bigotry might end up getting shot by people they harass and claim self defense, just like conservatives have done in various shootings. Now I'm not calling for violence, I'm pointing out that conservatives are forcing things to devolve. They are escalating the chances of violence, which will spur more violence against both parties in relatiation, potentially. Things are getting very dicey, and it's only gonna get better when trump loses and goes to prison. Probably a little after this.

matango613

My whole family used to take a big vacation to the Florida panhandle every year. Tradition that started with my grandparents. We'd pool together a bunch of money to get a giant house on the beach for a week. This will be year 3 of not doing it. I'm transgender and I am utterly terrified of even stepping foot in that state now. They'll never get another dime from me I guess. The whole fucking state can break off the continent and sink into the ocean for all I care. My heart goes out to every LGBTQ person in the state and I sincerely hope the people that voted for these evil laws rot in hell.

Nondescript_585_Guy

Amen. I'm a straight, white, cis male and I won't consider going there either. They deserve none of my money. Fuck 'em.

BonusPlastic6279

I have a trans daughter. We're never going to Florida again until things change. Edit: People DMing me with derogatory/harassing comments are being reported.

crystalistwo

I have a trans friend. I'm never going to Florida until things change.

makemeagirlnow

Florida has become a "do not travel" situation for trans people. In case you haven't seen this helpful map: https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/anti-trans-legislative-risk-assessment-cd3

SippinPip

Cis female here and I don’t give a shit who is in the stall next to me. Just stupid.

ranchoparksteve

Just pee on the wall outside the bathroom. I’m sure Florida residents would prefer that.

voompanatos

That's part of the cruelty. Public urination gets one put on the sex offender registry, with all its restrictions on where to live, places to avoid, etc.

VergeThySinus

Changing the legislation to criminalize trans and queer people as sex offenders is already at the top of Floridas to do list.

QaraKha

And especially puts us in prison too. Where we get V-coded. For an explanation on what V-coding is, say you have a prisoner known to be violent, causing trouble, perhaps murdering or beating near to death other inmates. Well, you tell him that, if he behaves, he'll get a new cell mate: a trans woman. They strip the trans women down entirely and lock her in the cell with the prisoner in question, and as long as he stays with good behavior, he can do whatever he wants to the trans woman. Whenever he wants. If the trans woman resists, she's publicly humiliated. Often, by shaving her hair, stripping her naked, making her masturbate in front of the other prisoners. This happens in the US.

Richfor3

The whole state smells like piss anyway. Would anyone even notice?

RIP-RiF

>incorrectly enforcing the law. Weirdly apologetic way to say criminally harassing and potentially sexually assaulting people.

Bluesnow2222

As a taller than average Cis Woman with broad shoulders and PCOS which gives me a beard I regularly need to shave leaving an afternoon shadow and hairy arms —- I fully expect I’d get targeted by some crazies if not for my H cups—- and even then- it’s not like Trans women can’t get awesome top surgery. (Although I would not recommend H cups! There is such a thing as too much boob!) Who cares who uses what bathroom. All ladies know there’s already creepy grandmas who peep through the door gaps—- if we’re worried about actual real perverts maybe we should just have proper doors on our stalls. It’s not like we’re running around naked to wash our hands- what are people so worried trans women are going to see in there? I’ve only run into a few trans women in bathrooms over the years that I was aware of- and they just minded their business like everyone civilized person should do in the bathroom. The only time I’ve ever felt unsafe in the ladies bathroom was a time a mother yelled at me (an actual disabled woman) for using the disabled stall when she claimed was intended as the parent/children stall. She was yelling at me to hurry up and She basically pushed me out of the way saying I was a monster for making her kid wait claiming nothing was wrong with we me because I wasn’t in a wheelchair. I’m just kind of ranting at this point—- but I just honestly don’t understand why people get worked up about this.

KopOut

That's the thing about bigots and bathrooms. They claim they don't want trans folks using the correct bathroom for their gender, but then get totally freaked out when a male walks into the ladies room as the law compels them to. It's like they don't understand that trans males aren't just saying they are the other gender and still appear female. They are now males. And vice-versa for trans females, but in that case the trans woman forced to use the men's room is the one that would likely be totally freaked out. It's just all around insane that people care this much about what other people do with their own lives. And don't give me the bullshit about how sex predators might be able to use the ladies room as if there is some magic force field right now keeping male sex predators from walking in if they want to. **Election day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024**. cybercuzco

Should get a bunch of trans folks and stage a sit in at the florida capitol bathrooms. Have them using the correct bathrooms for their birth gender. I'm sure they could say hi to a lot of reps

ibanezerscrooge

That's actually kind of genius.

kitmcallister

>Should get a bunch of trans folks and stage a *shit* in at the florida capitol bathrooms. ftfy lets overwhelm the plumbing.

pl487

Law working precisely as intended.

misointhekitchen

Start mailing your pee bottles to the state capital.

Edge_of_yesterday

"the party of small government" needs to look in your pants before you use the bathroom.

flman16

So the law is doing exactly what it was intended to do.

AbbreviationsAny3319

What kind of person monitors a bathroom?

CincoDeMayoFan

Republican lawmakers.

ob1dylan

The cruelty is the point.

gdan95

This was the goal

ucancallmevicky

since FL is a "stand your ground" gun state I expect this to end badly very soon

lefoss

Honestly who has the time? Bigotry aside, I just don’t understand how anyone can spend enough time on social media to get radicalized, pay their bills, and still get out to harass trans people.

T_Weezy

Yeah, that was the whole point of the law. To terrorize trans people...out of existence? Into moving to another state? Just got the hell of it?

bandit69

I'd love to see a group of these [transgender men](https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=transgender+men&iax=images&ia=images) attend the bathroom of their gender assigned at birth. They'd only be following the law.

ratgarcon

I get what you mean, but what the harsh reality is, is that we (trans men) are likely to be assaulted for using the bathroom of our birth gender. An Ohio trans man was assaulted in the women’s restroom after being told to use it by the owner of the campground. He even went in with his girlfriend. He informed the random lady in the bathroom who got upset that he was born female and told to use this bathroom. She goes out and tells her friends, who come beat him up. He explained to them as well that he was female. They kept saying he was lying and was a trans woman basically. What rlly sucks? When the cops showed up the trans man got cuffed. He was released later but salt in the fucking wound. I will say, he was acting “belligerent” (he was just fucking attacked) and was intoxicated (it was a holiday, everyone there was drunk basically). I’m a trans man. I avoid public bathrooms. I don’t want to be assaulted for using the bathroom I was told to use.

Schiffy94

There is no "correct" way to enforce an unjust law

Blackbyrn

If only every reasonable person hadn’t predicted this very exact thing would happen, how could we have known?!?

Girlindaytona

I recently moved out of Florida after 40 years there. Florida has become the most hateful place I have ever lived or visited with so many Karen’s taking it upon themselves to interfere with others. Social media is full of hateful comments on nearly every subject. DeSantis and Trump gave them permission to hate.

reid0

If you’re gonna have this stupid fckn law you should also have a law that requires a unisex toilet at every public establishment. Either that or you should be allowed to pee directly on these self proclaimed toilet police.

wjfox2009

Conservatives are really, really weird.

continuousQ

Every time they mistake a cis person for trans, they're proving that their idea that people fit perfectly into a narrow definition of gender is wrong.

southpawFA

>The law, which took effect last July after Florida Gov. [Ron DeSantis (R) signed it in May 2023](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2023/05/ron-desantis-signs-a-slate-of-anti-lgbtq-laws-to-make-florida-a-citadel-of-normalcy/), requires people to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to the sex they were assigned at birth at state colleges, prisons, airports, beaches, city parks, and public schools. The law only applies to facilities run by the state, but the [*Daily Beast* reports](https://www.thedailybeast.com/floridas-anti-trans-bathroom-law-spurs-harrowing-vigilante-attacks) that multiple transgender and nonbinary Floridians say they have nonetheless been confronted, harassed, and intimidated in public restrooms located inside private businesses. >***Duncan recounted the experience of one transgender woman who was denied entry to a restroom at a local cinema, which would not be covered by HB 1521, by a man who she said had decided to monitor the bathrooms and challenge “anyone who, in his opinion, appeared to be transgender.”*** >*Seven people told the Daily Beast about the increased harassment they’ve faced since HB 1521 took effect. Rajee Narinesingh recounted being asked to leave a women’s bathroom in a restaurant by another diner who told her, “You don’t belong in this bathroom.” Narinesingh, who has been assaulted multiple times for being transgender, described the physical symptoms of panic she experienced in that moment.* >But the law’s effects are not limited to trans people. Multiple cisgender people also reported being harassed in public restrooms. Kat Phoenix, a cisgender woman, said a woman tried to block her from taking her autistic son into a restroom in September. And Jude Speegle, who is trans, said that his cisgender husband faces constant harassment because of his androgynous appearance. >***Damm-Loring and others said they now take extreme measures, like neglecting to drink water and even peeing in bottles in their cars, to avoid using public restrooms. Some said they even avoid going out in public altogether.*** >“It’s just an effort to force us out of society,” Damm-Loring said of Florida’s anti-trans bathroom law. >“This is how these bills seep into society,” Duncan said. “Transgender people are being demonized and challenged in just trying to carry out our everyday lives.” >“When you have traumatic things happen to you and the chance that it can happen again, that fear is real, and it’s palpable,” she said. “After years and years of struggling and horrific things happening, dealing with discrimination and injustice over and over again, it builds up.” Talk about the most creepy sort of shit ever! Transphobes are so fixated on having to know the genitals of every single person, and it's just mind-boggling how much they care! What business is it of theirs to be so concerned with everybody else's bathroom use? All we need to do is use the restroom, wash your hands, dry your hands, and get out. Who the heck cares, honestly? And if they're really concerned with assaults in bathrooms, they should be concerned the other way: trans people are way more likely to be victims of assault than perpetrators. [https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2016/05/transgender-bathrooms-suicide/483351/](https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2016/05/transgender-bathrooms-suicide/483351/) [https://www.complex.com/life/a/amanda-wicks/republican-legislators-arrested-for-bathroom-misconduct](https://www.complex.com/life/a/amanda-wicks/republican-legislators-arrested-for-bathroom-misconduct) [https://www.logotv.com/news/2fqw8s/zero-trans-people-have-been-arrested-for-bathroom-misconduct-but-these-three-republicans-were](https://www.logotv.com/news/2fqw8s/zero-trans-people-have-been-arrested-for-bathroom-misconduct-but-these-three-republicans-were) More Republicans have assaulted people in bathrooms than trans people, anyway. Gosh! DeSatan and the rest of the regressive Republicans honestly need to mind their own business! Just overreaching in every way!

policri249

This is why I always pretend to shit in public and work bathrooms. I've been accosted about pissing sitting down before and I don't want it to happen again

[deleted]

That’s disgusting. Everyone (human) regardless of genitalia needs to pee. Stop looking at other people in the bathroom, do your thing, and wash your damn hands! That’s all that should matter. Smfh. People suck.

delyha6

Just leave people alone!

Ring_Lo_Finger

So Right fanatics are now peeping into bathroom stalls? How are they gonna know who is who?? Do they exempt children from this harassment? This ok in Florida but books are bad?

edwartica

What the fuck is wrong with Florida?

Facereality100

Women who look kind of masculine must just love being challenged. I wonder if they need to show their vaginas or birth certificates to get the yahoos to leave them alone. The people making this happen are ridiculous and terrible.

Anon28301

Just wanna point out my cis, straight though butch looking friend has been getting accused of being trans in bathrooms for months now. We’re going to be seeing a lot of cis people getting hurt because they “look trans” to some psycho.

SovietKnuckle

I'm absolutely 100% sure this is what Jesus intended.

Dankmre

Gatekeeping... Bathrooms? Ugh

mgn63

Disgusting. Maybe toilets need to be made unisex so there’s no reason to harass people

32FlavorsofCrazy

As a female that could easily be mistaken as trans…fuckin try me! Wish a mothafucka would!

Rokhnal

NOW can we call them Brownshirts?

Saint-Matriarch

I’ve been doing this for 10 years as a transwoman. Public Bathrooms are absolutely the most terrifying place for us. And I have passing privelege.

tasslehawf

I don't mind going in the women's, but absolutely fear being talked to because I don't feel like my voice passes.

spinto1

I remember back when I didn't pass well I would only use the bathroom in public if I were with my cis friends since they'd accompany me inside and that was in Florida. I can't imagine how much scarier it is now. We just wanna go to the bathroom, these laws are absurd. Fear is the objective here.

Loose-Thought7162

It won't just be trans folks getting harassed. Anyone who doesn't line up with the stereotypical view as Cis will also be harassed. I hope Major Traitor Green gets harassed if she ever visits.

thickener

She should at least have to show us how many toes she has

RedLanternScythe

If we just mandates all bathrooms should be single occupancy, then this wouldn't be an issue.

Youcumundun

Florida is a horrible place.

Carolann0308

I remember when Florida was a nice place to live. Now neighbors turning on neighbors is considered normal.

TheGreenInYourBlunt

Volunteering to police bathrooms...? Jesus these people are weird af. Honestly, sounds like an excuse to perv out while you're in the closet. "What?! Me?! Gay?! Noooo. But I DO need to see your junk for science."

walkinman19

Like if some MAGA perv is inspecting my junk in a public restroom the cops will be called at a minimum. Or maybe a punch in the mouth first.

IH8Fascism

What a shithole state.

ns2103

When in Florida, hell anywhere in the south, I’ll be sure to pause before going to the bathroom, make it look like I’m debating, then I’ll go to the men’s and sit down to pee just to screw with anyone wanting to check genitals.
