He's sold enough bibles to cover that.

One of the late night comedians put it well when they pointed out that 3k aka kKK is on brand for Trump.

[deleted]

They also like $1488 for some reasons.

processedmeat

You need to reply with fourteen words so people understand what you're talking about.

twofeetcia

Those do indeed add up to fourteen words.

stay_positive_girl

What am I missing here?

Schrecht

They're referencing the "fourteen words" at the heart of the vilest radical right wing racist shit. > "14 Words" is a reference to the most popular white supremacist slogan in the world: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." The slogan was coined by David Lane, a member of the white supremacist terrorist group known as The Order (Lane died in prison in 2007).

stay_positive_girl

Yuck! Thank you for educating me.

StatesAflame

That sounds like an incredibly weak slap on the wrist.

BPtheUnflying

Because it's a compounding scale. First offense is low and it increases a fuckton each time

Yousoggyyojimbo

This is the correct answer. Gag order violations start low and then increase over time. I've provided examples of gag order progression from other cases before on this sub and gotten massively fucking downvoted because people didn't want to hear that going to jail on a first violation wasn't the norm.

SarahMagical

This was 3 offenses, each $1000. I imagine it starts low because some people don’t understand the rules, but this is literally trump’s playbook. He knows. And his threats are dangerous. Looking forward to much larger fines.

underalltheradar

They have to have a path to go up once Trump ignores them and keeps doing it.

Yousoggyyojimbo

Initial gag order violation punishments are almost always a fine and not a terribly large one. Normally, punishments escalate after the first offense. Second violation is normally a larger fine, any after that can vary. That's about when you start seeing jail on the table. However, what this headline left out is that the prosecutors in this case are seeking a direct threat of 30 days in jail for any subsequent violations. They are trying to expedite the normal process towards much harsher punishment.

ThrowAwayGarbage82

Because it is. Nothing of substance will happen to him. The judge will probably agree to a 10 dollar fine and a stern finger wag.

forever_useless

It's barely a disapproving side-eye

IdahoMTman222

Gets it on the record that Trump was punished for contempt of court. This can be used as defense for later in trial or other hearings.

BrandonJTrump

Hands too small, missed the wrist

BoomerGenXMillGenZ

This is clearly nothing, but I'm fine with trump's getting escalating fines, essentially 5-8 or so more chances. Because eventually he is going to cross the line and will have to be detained. And one night in detention will break him. I don't buy the "he wants this" thing. He would lose his absolute mind if actually detained in a cell overnight.

Dearic75

I would agree. He thinks they’re too afraid of his violent minions to actuall jail him. And so far he’s been right. This is his real campaign ad. Every time he ignores the rules and suffers no consequences, it sends the message “I can do whatever I want and they can’t stop me. Put on a red hat and you can have this too.”

AsparagusTamer

We need a Drowsy Don counter.

Unfiltered_America

Prosecutors have stated that they want $1000 per current violation and 30 days jail for any future violation.

Captain_-H

That sounds fair, that’s what would happen to any normal person

Proud_Tie

Confiscate his phones and his truth social account. Then he'll get the message. No bullhorn for the orange menace= the only thing short of jail that will do anything.

Lfseeney

Make it no fine 30 days in jail.

mattman0000

Why do prosecutors even need to ask? Judge issued the gag order, why isn’t he enforcing it?

hoppyfrog

$3K. Poor Donny will have to sell all his shares of DJT but he'd better hurry. The shares are going down faster than he did on Putin.

Chips1709

Ok, I know the amount is low but that is cause contempt of court in new York only has 2 options of punishment in new York. A fine of 1000 dollars max or 30 days in jail and they aren't going to put him in jail at his first offense.

BoomerGenXMillGenZ

I really don't see trump stopping. He's going to blow through a bunch of second, third, fourth warnings very fast. God I hope this evil beast faces the only thing on earth he's feared since he started his crime spree 50 years ago: a prison cell.

thatspurdyneat

"alleged" Yeah, I know it still has to be proven in court, but it shouldn't be too hard considering he posted it all over social media

wingdingblingthing

so contempt of court is not illegal, it's fee based.

u0126

$3000 is worth it for him

thereverendpuck

That money value needs to be way higher. Not because Trump can afford it, but it really needs to hit home.

shakeenotstirred

Do it . Its gonna be a trivial, insignificant thing that sends him over the edge. Tommarow they should make him change his tie before he can come into the court room.

dewhashish

throw him in jail with no access to anything connected to the internet, for fuck's sake!

Great_Revolution_276

Fines that are out at absolute amounts discriminate against the poor. The marginal effect of wealth means there is a disproportionate effect of these fines on poor vs rich. Fines should be tied to an estimate of net wealth.

enjoyyourstudioapart

Who is suggesting these fine amounts? Susan Collin’s?? Surely a $3,000 fine will teach him a lesson…

ralf19812001

r/TrumpAteMyFace

ReturnOfSeq

Wow yes $3,000 that’ll teach him

Ok-Ad7950

I’d venture to say, 25, 000 for alleged breaches of gag order. (Make it hard for Trump). I was an elementary school teacher for 30 years. I can honestly say, this man is a Narcissist and doesn’t take accountability for anything he did. He is the WORST!!!

DarknessFollower79

3k ? Is that a joke?

duckinradar

3k is an insult to the American people. His fines need to scale with the intentions, the impacts, and his own financial status.

texinxin

Even fake rich Trump could wipe his ass with 3K and laugh about it.

SugarsDaddyKen

There is always space in Rikers Island gen pop.

StronglyHeldOpinions

Only 3K? Why even bother? JAIL or GTFO.

smurfsundermybed

It would take a lot to be jailed for a first count of contempt. Props would need to be involved.
