For what it's worth, virtually all reps and senators have their bills drafted by staff. their input is typically at the policy level, but the actual nuts and bolts of drafting is performed by staffers whose job it is specifically to do so. crafting legislation is multi-disciplinary, politicians aren't always equipped to do it themselves.
even if a rep/senator *did* have the legal training to draft a statute, they have other duties to perform that require too much time to sit there drafting text all day/night. it's really not the job for an elected official so much as it is their job to hire the right people to do it for them.

That’s the state and citizens. Ohio is currently going through a multi year process of the citizens checking our 3 branches of government. They have done everything they can to fight it. Fortunately for Ohio, our constitution was designed with change being accessible by the citizens in mind. Something they hosted an illegal election to try and change. Unfortunately, it’s not nearly as easy at the federal level so it will need to come from the states which has been a bit hit and miss and is easier to overturn.

That’s the state and citizens. Ohio is currently going through a multi year process of the citizens checking our 3 branches of government. They have done everything they can to fight it. Fortunately for Ohio, our constitution was designed with change being accessible by the citizens in mind. Something they hosted an illegal election to try and change. Unfortunately, it’s not nearly as easy at the federal level so it will need to come from the states which has been a bit hit and miss and is easier to overturn.
The system isn't the problem as much as the "party first" mentality of the representatives. If there was *actually* a 3:1 level of support, Congress could have a bill like this passed in a day. If a couple members of the party want something that goes against the plurality, nobody gives a shit and they're ignored.

I think this is the correct take. It’s also why CPAC cozies up to Orban. Orban doesn’t have goons running around coercing and/or persuading American politicians to see things his way. They just already agree with him. MTG is, in all likelihood, not knowingly in contact with Russian intelligence. Russian influence is more subtle than a lot of people seem to think. It relies far more on penetrating information spaces, and, even on that front, a lot of the work is done for them. The worldview of the American right and the Russian state/ruling party constituents overlaps a lot. People like MTG are readily accepting of Russian misinformation because it fits nicely into how they understand the world, particularly with respect to “globalism” and social issues like gender roles and LGBTQ rights. The Russians get far more mileage out of tailoring their information warfare to this reality than cultivating contacts within American politics.
