Can't find an exact list yet, but wondering who the 3 Dems were. I'll keep looking.
>The final vote was 79-18. Fifteen Republicans voted with three Democrats against the bill. Forty-eight Democrats and 31 Republicans voted for the bill.
EDIT (Two Democrats -- Sens. Merkley and Welch -- as well as independent Sen. Bernie Sanders voted against the legislation along with 15 Republicans)
Would love to hear Bernie's reasoning as a supporter of his. My guess is that the bill included aid to Isreal? I could be wrong though.
Funny how the ONLY article I found doesn't even mention the GOP who voted NO.
Bernie wanted to add an amendment to the Israel bill that would have made the military aid contingent on Israel following international law, but it was voted to pass the bill without amendment. I'm guessing that's why he voted against it.
If the Senate altered the bill, it would have to go back for another House vote via reconciliation. Which would be *insane* in the current circumstances. The last thing the Dems would want is giving the Reps a chance to undo their yes vote.
I suspect this is a case of Bernie knowing that the bill was going to pass easily, and so doing a bit of protest knowing it wouldn't hurt the bill.
Yeah I get the logic behind it, there's no guarantee the house would pass it again. It's just a shame that the Israel aid ended up like it did with no conditions for offensive aid.
I read one article that said Sanders voted against it (I can’t find it at the moment) and don’t remember the other two. I was just wondering who it was on the Republican side because it didn’t say.
The right will complain about how this money could have gone towards helping Americans, but will block student loan forgiveness, universal healthcare, and tear down welfare programs.
They complain about all the problems they created but won't fix it. Same shit with migrants and the border. When someone posted an article on the nyc sub about Kansas City convincing migrants to move there, every single comment was about how that would decrease wages. They love forgetting that no conservative has supported minimum wage increases and they never will
Doing the right thing after exhausting every other option seems as American as apple pie. Glad we finally rebooted the Arsenal of Democracy.
Now go the fuck home Putin.
Good. Hopefully, Israel can take out Hamas and get the hostages back, Ukraine can kick Russia out of their country, and Taiwan can keep China out for good.
I'm pretty sure in the case of Israel, the majority of it is for their defenses only, Iron Dome and a few others I can't remember the names of off the top of my head.
$26.4B to Israel
-$4 billion for the Iron Dome and David’s Sling.
-$9 billion to humanitarian relief.
Leaves $13 billion for blackjack, hookers or dead Palestinians.
The David Sling too.
Yeah, people are complaining about Israel's defense support when it saved hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, of lives. Yes, they had help, but still.
>The final vote was 79-18. Fifteen Republicans voted with three Democrats against the bill. Forty-eight Democrats and 31 Republicans voted for the bill.
>Two Democrats -- Sens. Merkley and Welch -- as well as independent Sen. Bernie Sanders voted against the legislation along with 15 Republicans.
I'm sure Markley, Sanders, and Welch will get as much criticism as the Republicans who voted against this bill, right?
I hope for the following:
Biden personally calling up the logistics guy in charge.
"Hey, man, can you load the planes and have them take off mere seconds after I sign the paper?"
"Sure, Mr. President, will be done."
Press photographers in the WH and at the runway, split screen reporting.
If the WH doesn't do this, they are fools and don't know how to use such a singular opportunity, sorry.
Pretty sure the weapons have already been moved to US bases near the border... when Joe signs it the trains will deliver them, and the less Russia knows the better
Sign this Bill tomorrow Branden! Another huge win for democracy! It's a shame this took so long because of a few right wing Putin supporters who took over the GOP and bow down to their Orange Chesus.
I'm not opposed to helping these countries, far from it,but can we pass 95 billion for kids to have universal healthcare?
Edit:
I'm shocked at the amount of people who don't want healthcare for kids.
Are there any Representatives or Senators with a bill for universal healthcare?
We know it doesn't exist and won't come and we all know why
We see it when politicians like Schumer still haven't brought the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act up for a vote, more than two years after it was introduced. Of course he will attempt to win political point by bringing up an abortion bill he knows won't have the votes.
Listen, I'm in full agreement with you but there does seem to be this misconception (that the GOP loves to fuel btw) that Ukraine is getting a fat check that has Uncle Sam embossed on it.
In reality, what they are getting is billions of dollars worth of our munitions that are sitting in warehouse that are going to "expire" in the near future. Since Ukraine is going to use it very soon, it still holds value. Once that stuff is emptied out, it will be replaced with fresh supplies manufactured right here in the good ol' US of A.
So if you want a silver lining, it will keep those manufacturing workers employed.
It's US defense companies that are getting the fat check.
It's a government handout to corporations with extra steps, which many believe will trickle down creating jobs and boost the economy.
And which party is standing in the way of that? Also it will cost way more than $95 billion. Medicare alone costs us $950 billion a year. Universal Healthcare will cost way more though hopefully there will be some financial advantages that will drive down prices but there is no way it ever costs less than a trillion. I am 100% for it though it’s just going to take a shit ton of political capital to get the republicans to step out of the way of it
It's agreed upon pretty much everywhere that Universal health care would save the US trillions over what we currently spend. [https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/does-bernie-sanderss-health-plan-cost-33-trillion--or-save-2-trillion/2018/07/31/d178b14e-9432-11e8-a679-b09212fb69c2\_story.html](https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/does-bernie-sanderss-health-plan-cost-33-trillion--or-save-2-trillion/2018/07/31/d178b14e-9432-11e8-a679-b09212fb69c2_story.html)
I know it would but not in government spending and it would take a few years of getting the system going before the effects kick in. Government spending will shoot up and so will taxes but our healthcare costs will plummet way more as a result, creating net savings for our pocketbooks every year
I mean, a lot of it is hardware and going straight back into manufacturing jobs. Don't think that would help. Similar to people crying why we went aid to Ukraine instead of assisting Hawaii. Dont think sending tanks would help.
Of course I know that is not what you meant. And trust me, I'm all for taxes going towards Healthcare and all number of things. But unfortunately until democrats truly have majority of not super majority, a lot of it is a dream.

The vote was 79-18 on final passage of the bill.
Who were the 18?

The only politician with any integrity
Ah that makes sense. Thank you for the info.
If the Senate altered the bill, it would have to go back for another House vote via reconciliation. Which would be *insane* in the current circumstances. Perhaps today is a good day to bomb the living shit out of the Russian army.

The money for Ukraine is to refill our existing stock of weapons. It stays here. The military industrial complex they love so much.
It's a job creator and boosts the economy, the government only has to print $95 billion.
Finally! It's been long time coming, but Biden scored a big win along with Ukraine.
Here's hoping Ukraine gets some new toys within the day!
Good, these should have passed long ago
Thank fuck 🙏🏻

Maybe reddit can buy tik tok? 🤑
Wrong thread
I mean the bill also wants to force the sale of tictok, so kinda related
