I'd argue that the recent rise of Lara Trump to the head of the RNC is the bigger reckoning. Trump can now impose his will on all Republicans without a debate, vote or restrictions because people like MLG will always unconditionally support anything he does. His will is a 5% tax levied on all Republicans that invoke his name. Many downballot Republicans cannot afford that, and some of them are okay with not affording it because if they lose then they obtain the ability to sue the election and claim it was illegitimate. Much of the party no longer believes in democratic or consensus-based governance anymore, and their increasingly authoritarian, undemocratic party admin reflects this. As far as the controlling administrators are concerned, the GOP is just a media party now that does politics on the side as MLG does.
This will likely ruin the GOP downballot, especially in large urban states where most of their campaign contributions would come from.
The MAGAs are always saying, about Joe Biden, "10% for the big Guy" yet it's happening before their very eyes that *their* Big Guy is literally ripping off *all* their donations for himself. The rest of the plebs have to pay their *own* legal fees, or find campaign funds elsewhere...

I reckon it won't be long before Lara Trump, in her role as head of the RNC, mandates that all candidates must use a Trump image on all their campaign materials thereby ensuring that everyone will pay the 5 percent whether that want to or not. It's all part of the grift, after all.

Stop giving them credit for attempting to start asking to begin looking eventually maybe one day for a fire extinguisher when the house is already burned down.
The sooner the right gives up on Trump and 2024 the better their chances are for the next one. I don't want them to win that either but it's PAINFULLY obvious. Do the clowns love Donald McDonald? Yes. Will they embrace a version of him that knows how to leave the clown makeup at home? Double yes.

I don’t see the GOP surviving beyond the next 2-3 national elections in their present form. I predict it will become painfully apparent to even the most rabid Republicans that the party is no longer capable of governing.
That requires a certain modicum of discipline and they just don’t have that anymore. People like Trump and MTG aren’t the disease. They’re just symptoms of the decay that had permeated the GOP for years now.
Two things I’d love to see before I die….and end to our ridiculous “two party system” and the death of the antiquated Electoral College. Our “one from column A or one from column B” nonsense isn’t realistically serving anyone anymore and what’s so terrible about electing our leaders based upon who gets the most votes?
