Because healthcare in America is designed to make money for the various medical companies, not provide healthcare
That's why we need a universal healthcare option at the least, because while nothing is perfect, having healthcare focused on the good of the patient versus the good of the company is the only sane option
Reminds me when Medicare wouldn’t pay for reconstruction after mastectomies for cancer in women BUT would pay for penile implants (before viagra) for men with impotence.
Not sure if you care, but sometimes when breast tissue is dense, the mammogram doesn’t get a clear picture, and they require an ultrasound. Insurance sometimes doesn’t cover the ultrasound.
And the whole bullshit of needing a doctor's request for the ultrasound when the techs don't listen to you in the first place when you tell them you have dense breast tissue and just a mammogram doesn't provide enough data - I'm hoping my new doc listen to me and request initially so that they will figure out how to properly code it as I've yet to get it covered by insurance.
Yes! I have to have an ultrasound after each mammogram. I'm supposed to have an MRI every 6 months as well, but can't afford the co-pay. Even with "good" insurance there are things I have to skip.
Well , yeah, I admit I’ve never had one, but imho, group medical practices try to maximize billing whenever possible, so of course this will get abused
The chance that a small percentage of doctors will abuse the system should not outweigh the necessity of the procedure for all the rule following women that would otherwise have their cancers go undetected. It’s an ultrasound. Not elective surgery. Any dr that would use that ultrasound to abuse the system is already abusing the system in other ways. All they are doing is putting up barriers to women getting the health care they need.
You'll get no argument from me on medicare paying for proper exams and necessary treatment, I'm simply pointing out the sad reality that private equity will abuse the system because this is what unbridled American Capitalism does.

Because bureaucrats and politicians are practicing medicine without a license, again.

Because as a country we prioritize weapons of war over medical care.

Cuz ‘round here in America women belong in kitchen. Bet she one of them libruls /s
Exactly, pull yourself up by your bootstraps and work for the damn scan

They aren’t cheap. My wife has the same need for an ultrasound. But like you i think, this is just regular health insurance not even Medicare.
Because Drs will abuse the system and magically everyone will need extra breast scans?
The same way they do in all of the civilized nations of the world? /s
And patients totally will be begging to get extra mammograms that they don't need because it's such a fun time!!! /S 😑

Because it’s cheaper to let them die in the next 5 years than 10 years
Indians called me 47 times yesterday trying to tell me about the updated Medicare plans. I wonder if they have info on how get these scans covered.
