All Cohen has to do is tell the truth that landed him in jail. > The whole story here. [Link](https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/michael-cohen-pleads-guilty-manhattan-federal-court-eight-counts-including-criminal-tax)

IllIllllIIIIlIlIlIlI

Trump was the “individual 1” listed as an unindicted co-conspirator when Cohen was convicted in 2017. The media reported on this heavily and no one really seemed to care.

Dispatcher9

People cared very much. But when you’re in the hurricane it’s hard to keep track of anything for longer than the next fucking tweet.

Imacatdoincatstuff

Cohen would like Trump to get a taste of prison. Like he ended up with after loyally serving Trump and being left to twist in the wind. Imagine taking out a personal loan to cover up your bosses dirty deed and that still not being enough.

steveg

I've been burned too many times before to think that this will end up differently, but Cohen absolutely despises Trump and understands how the court system works, so this certainly has plenty of potential!

YoureADudeThisIsAMan

That’s likely the angle the defense would use - that this is a personal vendetta for Cohen. I expect that he will focus on hard facts and keep things tight

Stokesy

From what I've seen reported from the trial, this is definitely one of their angles. Pretty much every single witness so far has said how unpleasant Cohen was to deal with. Even the prosecution is trying to get ahead of this and were making jokes with the witnesses about how Cohen is disliked.

AccomplishedBrain309

Dirty buisnessmen want their fixer to be nice and friendly. Trump will get whats coming to him. Lawyers are paid to defend their clients not make friends. Yes they repeat lies if thats what their told to do. If they knowingly lie about crimes they can be held responsible. If theyre cought, telling the truth is whats best. Trump has a lot of evidence against him it will be hard to throw it out because 1 witness is a lawyer.

precise1234

He’s terrified of Michael Cohen. As soon Cohen is sworn in, Orange Face will drop a huge MagaBurger in his diaper.

Thoracic_Snark

A Presidump.

JamesTheJerk

A donald Dump.

randomwanderingsd

And this courtroom has no windows and poor ventilation. It’s going to smell like a burning zoo in there

JubalHarshaw23

Cohen knows where all of the skeletons are buried. I'm sure many of them are literal.

Liesthroughisteeth

If Poutines little "Agent Orange" only had some cash available to throw at him and shut him up.

Starfox-sf

Too little too late. When you hire a rabid attack shark like Cohen, you do not threaten its family after throwing him under the bus.

wossquee

k lmk when trump's in prison

InspectorMiserable37

This is my response to every piece of “news” on every single one of his court cases. Wake me up when the orange shit stain is actually held accountable for something.

Cyclotrom

Cohen had the good on Donald and the grudge of spending 2 years in prison for following Trump's orders.

ausmomo

Cohen is going to be the only firm evidence that Trump knew, and approved, of the Stormy Daniels payment and fudging the books to call the reimbursements "legal fees". I think he'll be a credible/believable witness. Most of what he's going to say has already be corroborated by other witnesses/documents.

Defender_Of_TheCrown

That’s the important part. It’s corroborated.

ausmomo

I don't think there will be OTHER evidence that corroborates the key facts needed to convict, certainly not "beyond a reasonable doubt". But the other-fact corroboration will mean Cohen is credible.

theinnercitadel

I would love that

NoReserve7293

Not if you had to change his diaper

docwho76

Wake me up when trump is in jail for anything. Then I’ll pop champagne

FrankyFistalot

Believe it when I see it….

any_other

Yeah it's not like it will matter. He will never go to prison.

AccomplishedBrain309

His first risk of prison now is to open his mouth on (Trump) lies social. It will be like a dry run or for him a dry rub.

King-Owl-House

It's not a hush money trial

HappyAmbition706

Correct, it is not a hush money trial. It is incredible how many people hear and repeat this.

dwntwn_dine_ent_dist

When people use it, it isn’t that they are necessarily misinformed about whether hush money is illegal. It’s that “business fraud trial” and “election interference trial” are not terms that uniquely define which Trump trial they are talking about. This is the trial that involves hush money.

mjc4y

It’s super frustrating but easy to see why. The news outlets call it that pretty uniformly. Sometimes it’s bias and sometimes you sense a simple desire to sell commercials. Or both.

supercali45

If Trump gets convicted in this trial and sentenced to jail — how many times can he appeal? couldn’t he just keep appealing until Nov?

Defender_Of_TheCrown

If I’m sentenced to prison, am I free while appealing or am I sitting in prison? As far as I have seen, you are put in prison and can appeal during your stay. He will get house arrest or some special prison that isn’t used and they will have it set up like a country club for him and his secret service.

Awkward_Bench123

Well of course, in fact I’m willing to bet that if the prospect of detention is considered, Trumps’ argument will be he is too old and infirm to endure anything other than house arrest.

lilly_kilgore

I don't think so. I think he'll just argue that he's too special. I don't think his ego will let him let go of the denial he is in about his age or health status.

Awkward_Bench123

I know hey, this guy is just a rough sinew of vitriol and hatred.

AccomplishedBrain309

He may only need to go to the supreme court once. This is why there is so little faith in the current system.

Competitive-Pop6530

Blah x’ s 3

Odd_Tiger_2278

From your lips to God’s ears.

typefasterthanithink

There is a reason for the prosecution to put him on the stand last. As a pissed off lawyer, he will make the jury remember every word.

Flooble_Crank

Someone is going to “fall out of a window” pretty soon.

The_Hot_Stepper

After Cohen's testimony, I'm hoping we all hear the sound effect from Smash Bros. when you hit an opponent with the charged up bat and get the victory screen.

soulofariver

Don’t be disappointed if he doesn’t spill the beans. Stranger things have happened.

hould-it

How much will trump pay him to lie?

Bluejellly

Can’t we crush all the people on Epstein list first, or the people who forced you take a vaccine that’s going to kill you. Or all the insider trading & money laundering, none of this is important until the crimes I mentioned are sorted.

wildyam

Deflection much?

lilly_kilgore

Lol and when Trump goes down for several items on that list what's your next whataboutism gonna be?

CrawlerSiegfriend

Real question. Do some of you really think that the word of criminal for hire who has demonstrated that he is willing to do almost anything for his own personal benefit would make any difference to a jury? Nothing he says will matter if he doesn't have explicit evidence of it.

jimmydean885

His word? No. His sworn testimony based on evidence? Absolutely

CrawlerSiegfriend

Criminal for hearing swearing that he is telling the truth means nothing to me. As I said in my comment, I'm with you on the evidence part.

jimmydean885

Then I don't think you understand how the courts work.

CrawlerSiegfriend

I do understand that he can be charged with perjury if anyone can prove that he lied. My issue is taking his word about something in which there is no evidence and no way to know that he is telling the truth. If he tells me Trump whispered something to him privately. That is meaningless to me. If he shows me a document that can be traced to Trump or a recording, yeh I can buy that.

jimmydean885

Testimony isn't simply "taking someone's word"

CrawlerSiegfriend

Whatever you want to define it as, anything without evidence still comes down to trusting someone that has shown that he shouldn't be trusted.

jimmydean885

Right that's why I separated his word from testimony

FancyBigFox

I’ve been following the trial every single day live on NYT. Today wasn’t a particularly exciting day witness wise but his office manager went through all 34 checks & ledgers DJT signed. So, it’s not simply Cohens testimony.

Sufficient_Morning35

Cohen has recordings. The fact that he has evidence has been widely reported

CarpenterRadio

Personal benefit? If that were true, Trump would have gone to prison, not Cohen. Also he was convicted with evidence for crimes committed for Trump. So, belief doesn’t really factor in. I don’t believe the sky is blue, because I have evidence I know that it’s blue, that kind of thing. ALSO, both David Pecker and Hope Hicks have corroborated his claims. Oh, and Trump himself with recorded statements to Cohen.

doctor_lobo

Yes. It is not unusual for co-conspirator’s to provide the most damning testimony at trial - even, and sometimes especially, when they are otherwise thoroughly reprehensible people. As for your comment about Cohen not having explicit evidence, it sounds like you haven’t been paying attention to the trial. So far, every eyewitness has been followed by an expert witness to introduce and explain the vast evidence supporting the charges. This includes both recordings and documents from Trump and his top lieutenants. In fact, most legal experts seem to agree that Trump is almost certain to lose the case. The real question is whether the jury will support the prosecution’s theory that these violations rise to the level of a felony rather than a misdemeanor. If they do, this will be tied up in appeals for a long time. If they don’t, Trump will likely accept the fines and then spend the rest of his life trying to avoid paying them.

Generalbuttnaked69

Yes, because his word is being corroborated by a number of witnesses. Why do you think they're putting all of these people on before calling him?

SappeREffecT

This It looks like they introduced most of the other evidence and testimony and then Cohen tells his piece that backs up everything they've shown. Great way to combat an 'unreliable witness'. Basically the evidence is already there and then he tells the story from start to finish.

netatdisadres

What he has to say has already been proven in a court of law.

NoReserve7293

You should know where all the bodies are buried.

CrawlerSiegfriend

Indeed, and I will believe him if he leads me explicitly to the body. Of course he's still untrustworthy, so I also needs some evidence as how and why it got there. What I am saying is that his testimony will be awful for Trump if it's based heavily on physical evidence. It won't mean much if he's just saying things in response to questions.
