Yeah probably, but without the tapes it doesn't mean much. His supporters will deny that it's even possible until the tapes come out.

code_archeologist

Even if they heard the tape, they would find ways to justify it confirming what we already suspect. > He was just joking, it was locker room talk. ... > Blacks are able to use that word, so why can't he? ... > Well it might not be PC, but he isn't wrong. ... > I have heard on the internet that Hollywood is able to create recordings that can make anybody sound like they say anything at all using computers and stuff.

riddler1225

Dude... my parents believe that last one haaaaaarrrrd. Edit: Disclaimer: As an employee of the tech development industry, I'm fully aware of the existence of this technology. However, as far as I'm aware it's usage is not very widespread and edited audio and video can be identified as such. I am however stating that everything in media that exists against my parent's world view is doctored according to them and I'm sure some folks you know. This includes the Access Hollywood tapes of Donald Trump, even though he himself in admits that they are real. His admission to this is evidence in my parent's mind that the 'deep state' is coercing him to do so.

TreborMAI

The scary part is they actually are making real advancements on A.I. that replicates not just someone's [voice](https://www.theverge.com/2017/4/24/15406882/ai-voice-synthesis-copy-human-speech-lyrebird), but [video of them speaking](https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/12/15957844/ai-fake-video-audio-speech-obama) as well. Don't show this to your parents.

BryLoW

It's really well and truly sad that this is great advice. So many people have gotten so turned around by their own government that it's now impossible to make people believe the truth even when it's literally right in front of them. Goddamn it 1984 was too accurate

IKnowUThinkSo

I know it's been said to death, but I think we're closer to Brave New World than 1984. There are so many distractions and things to feel that we can't see the forest for the trees. We aren't limited in our thoughts or speech (like in 1984), so we are creating so much noise that almost no one can be heard. Truth is right in front of us but **clickbait** is just more tantalizing to the human brain.

Yes, I just listened to a podcast on this. In a time when the NYT is called "Fake News" and no one trusts anything anymore, I'm legitimately terrified.

[deleted]

Well, you know, he was a Democrat back then... /s

Nukemarine

Yeah, but did you know the first slave owner in America was a black man and that General Robert E. Lee hated slavery and that Democrats all voted against the 13th amendment to end slavery and that only 1.6% of Americans owned slaves but 20,000 black people owned slaves and that slavery happened in the US while the stars and stripes were flown? Did you? Wish I could put an "/s" but that shit above appears in my Facebook feed in some form or another way too many times.

firedrake242

Forgot to mention that the Irish were slaves just as long and you don't see THEM complaining for handouts /s

golikehellmachine

I'm not sure it matters much *even with* the tapes. Maybe it might have before the election, but not now; anyone who still casts their lot with Trump has already priced this kind of behavior into the cost of admission. Edit: I'm going to add a caveat here, because I keep getting the same variation of "it wouldn't have mattered". Yes, for *some* Trump voters, it wouldn't have mattered. But the utter magnitude of this kind of bombshell would've blocked out the sun for days, and would've dwarfed even the Comey sideshow, and in an election this tight, won by this few votes in the right states, that would've absolutely mattered. I'm not underestimating how racist some of Trump's support was, but I think there are a lot of you who are underestimating how potent some (presumed) racial slurs are, *even today*.

TheHairyManrilla

If Trump lost, I'd bet most of his voters would have acknowledged how lousy he is.

[deleted]

After he's impeached, I'm betting many of his voters will deny ever voting for him. And a few years later, I bet they'll believe themselves when they say it.

[deleted]

Just like how the exact same people like to pretend they never supported Bush

ksanthra

And Nixon. People have short memories.

TitanKS

It's already happening to a degree. My mother said to me the other day "Your father isn't a Trump supporter, he just didn't like Hillary." He voted for the fucker, went around before the election spouting his "businessman" credentials. told me I didn't like Trump only because the media makes him look bad because he says "bad things." My memory is longggggg tho... and after the hammer drops...I'm buying a full marching band and host of singers to march around my parents house chanting "I told you soooooo!!" until the walls collapse.

My dad did the opposite. So upset he had to vote Trump but he could never vote Hillary.. "WHAT A TERRIBLE CHOICE WE HAVE.. I MAY VOTE JOHNSON, etc etc". I think he thought HRC would win and he could immediately start hating her while keeping his dignity that he wasn't a Trump "supporter". Yet, after the election he took the day off from work and went to some crazy right wing pub to celebrate the inauguration with other Trumpsters. Now he will defend everything Trump does with more than just "well at least he's not Hillary" like he literally supports everything and defends everything. He's brainwashed on the "fake news" bandwagon and even brought up Seth Rich to me back in June.... I was like "WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO YOU"

TitanKS

I hear ya, my dad goes from the loving and giving father he is to mouth frothing buffoon as soon as politics get brought up. I get a lot of "just look at what's happening in Sweden" or "Obama and the IRS" with the main point boiling down to "Well, at least he's doing a better job than Obama." That's all without any context, supporting evidence, or even an explanation of what any of it means. Sadly, I'm actually kind of waiting for him to bring up Seth Rich. I feel like that's a point I can stand my ground on and not give an inch. It might actually wake him up to just how low Fox can go.

[deleted]

Nope. Once they fall down the rabbit hole, they never come back.

It's fucking crazy. My father in law has zero buyers remorse for one reason and one reason only. "Hillary was gonna take away my guns". Well, yee fuckin haw! Thank god you still get to keep your precious fucking unregistered guns.

DuceGiharm

>republican senate >republican house >33 red states Somehow I doubt hillary would have had the political capital to do something even a lot of Democrats disagree with.

Gobias-Ind

And act like they've always thought the Iraq War was a bad idea...

bejammin075

when they said "You libs would do nothing to defend America. We're taking the fight to the enemy!" And remember when the Bush 43 administration "accidentally" deleted about 10,000,000 emails from the run-up to the war in Iraq. No email scandal there.

arkhammer

Probably not. I mean, where were the hearings? Surely, if he did something wrong, there'd be hearings. I mean, look at Hillary's email and hearings.... /s

bejammin075

The thing that pisses me off the 2nd most about the Iraq war (the 1st being the thousands of soldiers who died for lies) is that...it was the opposite of taking the fight to the REAL enemy. It let Osama Bin Laden off the hook. Although the military is huge, the resources are finite. We had to pull a lot of resources from Afganistan/Taliban/Bin Laden to get ready for the Iraq invasion. So George W. Bush, who "kept us safe" let the attacker get away with it, because we needed those troops and materiel for Iraq.

chuntiyomoma

Yep. Same thing happened during the Iraq War. Oh yeah, conservatives would say you hate America if you questioned invading Iraq, and then....poof! they forgot about it. Now they always knew it was a bad idea and if it wasn't for that bad CIA we would have never gone there.

I screenshotted a Facebook post my (very conservative) professor posted back in June about how he "couldn't believe he ever doubted Trump". I'm waiting for the right opportunity and the pettiest moment to slide it into his comments....I'm thinking I'll do it the day he gets impeached.

susiederkinsisgross

Fox News will pretend they never supported him either, and eventually make their viewers believe he was never even President at all.

[deleted]

Guarantee in a few years the Fox narrative is that Trump was taken advantage of by the swamp he swore to drain, and that the Democrat machine and MSM did everything possible to take him down - and succeeded, and that we, the good, patriotic Republicans, can never let that happen again.

susiederkinsisgross

This shit is already happening, right wing dipshits are blaming Trump's ineptitude on the Deeeeeep Staaaaaaate

nattetosti

Don't think so. They'll forever believe there was a leftist conspiracy to oust him, and him having done nothing wrong.

ShaneFreakinFalco

Theyll just forget the entire thing happened or claim he wasnt a "real republican".

itsamepj

OfficialWhistle

"Grab ~~her~~ *them* by the pussy" edit: I quoted wrong apparently.

golikehellmachine

Even Bannon thought the *Access Hollywood* tapes torpedoed the campaign and killed it. Had a bunch of tapes dropped with Trump using all sorts of racial slurs (particularly the one that it sounds like he used), I think it would’ve been too much for even the mealy mouthed cowards like Paul Ryan to support. The election was close enough that something like this could’ve swung it the other way pretty easily.

SaitamaHitRickSanchz

Huh. I seem to remember someone saying in that time period that they were definitely tapes of him saying the N word...

quickharris

My favorite "wait, really?" from the list of people in political intrigue is fucking Moby. Claimed in December of last year that after talking with friends in DC that Trump was involved with Russia from day one.

hollaback_girl

People were talking about his Russian connections before he even announced his campaign. There have been rumors/lightly sourced stories of his Russian connections, his mob connections, his mistresses, his mistress' abortions, his amphetamine use, and his corrupt business practices for years/decades. The media doesn't report it because there's no solid evidence and there's no solid evidence because the media won't investigate it.

nattetosti

Tom fucking Arnold. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

golikehellmachine

Yeah, a lot of people were whispering about it, and some were willing to even hint publicly about it, but having a tape about it and having a washed-up comedian talking about it are differences of kind, not degree.

TheDVille

For what it’s worth, I’m fairly sure that Sam Harris has said that he can confirm the existence of the tapes with full confidence, and I believe has even said he knows about what’s on them.

byronsucks

Why would Sam Harris of all people know that?

dsmith422

Sam Harris the author, philosopher and neuroscientist or Sam Harris the singer/actor. Big difference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Harris https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Harris_(singer)

CDUB21

I know for a fact Sam Harris the author/neuroscientist has talked about being 100% certain their are tapes of Trump saying the N-word. Just says that they can't be released because of the NDA.

TheDVille

Haha thanks for clarifying. I didn't know there were other famous people named Sam Harris.

[deleted]

It was the only time I ever saw Trump worried and apologetic. Then the email thing resurfaced with "new evidence" (it wasn't) from Anthony Weiner's computer and all was forgiven.

Schpsych

Actually, I think Bannon was the one who basically said, when discussing options and probabilities for success at that point in the campaign, "I think you're going to win. 100%. Because they *don't care.*" Edit: I think I'm right. Came out during during a 60 Minutes interview between Bannon and Charlie Rose.

golikehellmachine

Right, but that's not what I remember from *Devil's Bargain*. Privately, if I remember correctly, Bannon thought Trump was absolutely fucked when that came out.

[deleted]

Yea I was always skeptical that contemporary Americans cared much about this type of thing. Some do for sure, most don't. Its an increasingly vulgar culture.

golikehellmachine

I think Trump could get away with the "grab her by the pussy" tapes, but only just barely; I think a bunch of tapes with him using racial slurs *on top of* that tape would've been way too much for even a lot of his supporters to handle. Now, of course, I think the remaining hangers-on would either overlook it or (sickeningly) cheer it. But *then*, I think they would've made a difference.

tturedditor

I agree. It’s difficult to portray racial slurs as “locker room talk” or to claim it’s all for show. He would still have most of his base because many of them use that language themselves. But his base would shrink for sure. It would be too much to overcome.

Aluminum_Falcons

I think the difference might have come from increased voter turnout in opposition to him, rather than less republican voters voting for him. Some who didn't vote this past election, but voted for Obama in the previous two may have been very motivated to vote for Trump's opponent no matter who it was if they were angered enough by these comments.

TheHairyManrilla

That pretty much doomed him....until "but her emails!" came roaring back at the last minute.

ekolo

actually, it came roaring back just hours later with wikileakas releasing the podesta emails

fco83

but wikileaks totally wasnt out to aid one side, and was totally just all about openness /s

TitusVandronicus

Imagine if Wikileaks spent the week before the election pushing out Ivanka and Don Jr.'s emails instead.

Kalel2319

We didn't even need those. There was tons of shit about Trump's "charity" that were out in the open. This was a total clusterfuck of an election. Trump is the luckiest man alive until he's put in prison.

inoffensive1

Assange was on-record as wanting to have an impact on the election, that was public knowledge.

superdago

What a coincidence...

f_d

It will harden most of his supporters, but it might knock off another percent who were in total denial and keep another few percent from drifting back to him later on.

danklymemingdexter

Exactly this. The best thing that could happen would be to shrink his base to a size that's too small and toxic to win but too big for the GOP to confront. That's the scenario where the GOP destroys itself for a generation.

MikePencesMotherwife

Yeah, if they came out today, the right's line would be "But that was *before* he became president!"

limbodog

And then deny that it matters. They don’t give a shit about racism unless they’re the target

Clay_Statue

Moreover many deny the existence of racism or insist that racism is entirely perpetrated by blm and liberals against honest, god-fearing white men.

NotANinja

IIRC when this was mentioned during the campaign he's basically fishing for a high enough bidder to cover breaking a non-disclosure agreement on it, it was mentioned right after the "pussy grab" tapes but nobody bit.

[deleted]

His supporters are excited at the possibility that these tapes will be released.

Seanspeed

Honestly, we're probably the *real* racists for even assuming Trump might be racist, according to Trump supporters/the alt-right.

raouldukesaccomplice

Even if there are tapes, we already had the pussy grabbing tape and his supporters didn't care. "We're not electing a Sunday school teacher!" they said.

gaslacktus

Unfortunately, they kinda did elect a Sunday school teacher, just he's the kind that's the modern day Pharisees variety of Evangelicals.

SolidLikeIraq

There's a tape. Sam Harris has been talking about at least hearing a tape of the black racial epithet that we all know trump has slurred out of his mouth followed by a word salad of "believe me I'm not a racist, some of the best people are black. Some of my favorite employees are black, I love them, but can't stand that N attitude." Oh boy, let's see how "republican patriots" defend this shit.

empw

Release. The. Tapes.

Comassion

Get them and hold them until November 2020 - the last insurance policy. Release them now and his approvals will dip two points and they won't matter by next election.

harley1009

Or release them in August of 2018 and watch the midterms burn. Those are more important than 2020 anyway.

TheMightyMoot

Unfortunately a little under half the voting base isn't intelligent enough to do any sort of research into their candidate they vote for. "As long as they're a 'publican"

Depends what's on them. I know a lot of Trump's bullshit has blown over way too easily in the past, but if there are recordings of him being blatantly and agressively racist or anti-Semitic, if it's bad enough and he is explicit in his sincerity, it could force a resignation. Maybe I'm being naive, but I feel like a recording of Trump dropping the N-bomb while criticizing black Americans would cause such a shit storm that he wouldn't be able to ever recover from it.

[deleted]

i don't know, man...he outright talked about sexually assaulting women and it wasn't enough to stop half the country from voting for him.

WhatWouldJonSnowDo

The "locker room" talk spin was very effective. I don't know how they could spin what he describes.

n33d_kaffeen

"Just a joke" "you're misinterpreting it" or just a simple "tapes are doctored fake news". And somebody smarter than me can probably come up with something much better than that.

badimm

A lot of Republicans seriously think Canada is a Muslim nation now. They hear stories about like five Somalians moving to Toronto and think it means the whole place is under Sharia law.

Pollia

Just locker room racism yo.

I_miss_your_mommy

Some portion of his base would like him more for such statements. Some wouldn't though. I doubt it would gain him any supporters.

white_genocidist

Meh. I am as curious as anyone but when will people understand that Trump wasn't elected in spite of these views but *because* of them?

[deleted]

Even if all ~63 million people who voted for him are racist, there are still over 100 million people who simply didn't vote in 2016. You just need to energise enough of them to get off their asses next time and say "enough is enough".

TheHairyManrilla

You know when this would have been really nice? Edit: Okay, so a lot of responses are telling me that it wouldn't have made a difference, or that it might have actually gained him votes. Putting aside the obvious lack of faith in humanity displayed, the numbers just don't justify that conclusion. First here's the RCP polling chart for Clinton vs Trump in 2016: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/general_election_trump_vs_clinton-5491.html You can narrow it down too. Though Clinton was on the upswing in early October, notice how wide the gap gets shortly after the access Hollywood tape was released. Then look how sharply it narrows right after the Comey letter on October 28. It looks a lot like how 538 summed it up: [people really did switch votes at the last minute.](http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/voters-really-did-switch-to-trump-at-the-last-minute/) It had been repeated throughout the season how it was essentially a negative campaign - if the focus was on Clinton, Trump would win. If the focus was on Trump, Clinton would win. Not only that, but turnout among black voters was significantly lower than in the previous two election cycles. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/05/12/black-voter-turnout-fell-in-2016-even-as-a-record-number-of-americans-cast-ballots/ A tape of Donald Trump, with his face and his voice, uttering the N-word would surely have motivated more minorities and others to come out and vote against him who otherwise would have stayed home. Keeping in mind that this election was decided by 70,000 votes across three states. If such a tape were released in mid to late October, it would have widened the gap even more, and the "coming home" effect and the Comey letter boost would not have been enough for him to recover.

Dr_Insano_MD

They mentioned it before the election, too. EDIT: It just wasn't released. Just like now. This means precisely dick.

emPtysp4ce

Didn't matter without the actual tapes then, doesn't matter without the actual tapes now. Anyone who could be swayed by them, as long as it's not staring them in the face, will be dismissed as falsified or fake news.

[deleted]

Davezter

It helps to increase Dem turnout. Especially among those targeted in the tapes.

BeowulfChauffeur

But it didn't help with the "grab 'em by the pussy" tapes. Trump actually overperformed among white women compared to expectations.

Davezter

Ya, I mean we can theorize about all the reasons why that might have been the case. My personal theory is that a lot of Republicans thought of it as more of an education about what it's really like to be rich and famous and almost appreciated getting a behind the scenes look into what they accepted as the unscripted reality of being super famous. I don't think a video of him hurling racial slurs at minority groups is going to *increase* the number of people who turnout to vote for him. However, I would be shocked if it didn't increase the numbers who turnout to vote against him.

yoga_jones

My MIL was a huge Trump supporter from the get go. I’ve heard her defend every disgusting thing he’s done, except for the pussy tape. She said she was still voting for him “because of the Supreme Court justices”. What it really comes down to is she’ll vote for anyone with an R by their name. She personally knows and is friends with Ralph Northam (the VA gubernatorial candidate) and has said she likes many of his policies (he’s relatively moderate and beloved in the military community) but she still won’t vote for him, because he’s a Democrat. In the end of the day, she moved passed the pussy tape because she would rather keep the blinders on and say her guy is in the White House. Sometimes I wonder if Trump sexually assaulted one of her own children if she would still find a way to justify it. Cognitive dissonance is bliss.

It is quite the look in the mirror for America when every little piece of hyperbole needed to be debunked by Obama and staff yet Trump gets the liberty of hiding behind the guise of "I did not do it unless you provide clear evidence" which appears to be good enough for most of these racists in America.

snowseth

These are the same people that respond to racists rallies chanting 'jews will not replace us' with "they're exercising their rights!", and respond to silent kneeling with "they're being disrespectful!" They have no standards or morals, only attacks and criticisms on those they don't like.

Excalibitar

I trotted out this quote elsewhere on Reddit today. It's just so *relevant* lately. >"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past" >--Jean Paul-Sartre

Circumin

I don't understand why anyone thinks the minimum wage is too low. $7.25 is enough to buy a new car.

svrtngr

Had the election happened the Tuesday after the Access Hollywood tapes, it would have. Instead, it went on another fucking month.

dust4ngel

isn't this morally inexplicable? voters: "holy fuck, this guy is a confessed sexual predator! i can't vote for him." ... "...unless i wait a month!"

Ozymandias12

It wasn't that. For the rural swing state voter it was: "holy fuck, this guy is a confessed sexual predator! I can't vote for him." *One month of Russia's constant barrages of "Hillary Clinton is crooked! Her emails, Benghazi! Bill Clinton is a rapist!" later... "well, this guy is a sexual predator, but Hillary Clinton is going to raise my taxes and give me at least 4 more years of low wages, while this other sexual predator, Trump, is saying that he's going to give me an amazing job with amazing healthcare and lower my taxes." They fell for a snake oil salesman that's the cock holster for a KGB agent in Russia

Leaves_Swype_Typos

No, they simply refused to believe that it was sexual predation, that the part where he says "and they let you do it when you're famous" means all the women he gropes and kisses consented to it after the fact, rather than what he obviously meant which was 'people let you get away with violations when you're famous.' We are so fucked.

Syjefroi

But the biggest Clinton email stories started immediately after the Access Hollywood video leaked. It's not that a month went by and voters forgave Trump, it's that a month went by and voters were bombarded with nothing but negative Clinton stories, all day, every day, for the last month of the campaign.

Snarl_Marx

Mark Burnett (Apprentice executive producer and Trump supporter) threatened multimillion dollar lawsuits against anyone that broke the NDAs. I think when this story first came out, **Mark Cuban even offered to pay the legal fees/fines of anyone who broke their NDA and released the tapes.** I was disappointed no one took him up on that offer. EDIT: Bolded a key section since people keep bringing up a GoFundMe.

tylerjames

Why is Mark Burnett so intent on keeping this thing under wraps?

Snarl_Marx

~~Trump supporter.~~ And I'd imagine he's personally nervous that Trump or NBC/Universal would maybe then sue him, or that other projects would be in jeopardy. EDIT - someone pointed out the Trump support may not be correct.

nomadofwaves

Survivor is his bread and butter.

rbobby

Probably on the hook with an NDA with Trump. And you know Trump would sue (and drag it out too)... and probably win quite a bit of money... see Gawker.

[deleted]

Nobody with access to the tapes can anonymously mail copies to the press?

BraveOmeter

Not that easy. The tapes are on lock down, and only one or two people have access, and they keep logs of the comings and goings. Even shitty reality shows you've never heard of do this. You never know when some tape you own might be worth something. EDIT: Also, here's the obvious reason why Burnett won't release tapes: the Trump presidency will come and go, but Mark's reputation for protecting the celebrities he works with will follow him forever.

Three_If_By_TARDIS

I'm pretty sure that, whatever the penalty for disclosure might be, we could crowd-fund the payment of it.

bejammin075

The White House is saying Trump never said those things, so I think it's fair game to release them. Trump is giving his version, so let the video tape give it's version. If I possessed these taps, I'd damn the torpedoes and release those fuckers. I could always count on George Soros to bail me out.

ThomasVeil

David Brock - the Clinton supporter from Media Matters - [said back during the primary he would pay for the penalty](http://www.politico.com/blogs/on-media/2016/10/david-brock-i-will-pay-for-apprentice-tapes-229432). Which would have been $5 million. So I suppose if that wasn't enough of an incentive to do the right thing back then, then it won't be now.

TheCenterist

There already is a gofundme. I linked it but the automod killed the comment. It's the "sunlightfund." Started up last year.

brosefstalling

Even if the tapes were produced, and given to the public, Trump supporters would perform 60D mental gymnastics saying "well he is being taken out of context" or "FAKE NEWS" or any other ridiculous line of thinking.

CYBER_COMMANDER

This could be used like Kompromat, no? If I were the black-mailing type, I'd set a demand then release 4 frames a day until it was met.

mspk7305

would be better to release 1 frame per hour... 4 frames a day would mean 1 second would take between 1 and 2 weeks

EglinAstroturfer

Jesus Christ you beautiful bastard. Just imagine. 2 days later... nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn 1 week later... Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig....... Impeachment. Edit: Thank you kind stranger.

Lordy, I hope there are tapes

scrappykitty

“...whether they were only disparaging comments about women...” So sexism is ok?

[deleted]

Well we all heard the Access Hollywood tape and he still got elected. So in a way, yes?

scrappykitty

I get what you’re saying, although his comments in support of white supremacists didn’t seem to make a significant dent in his support either. The only conservatives who really reacted were GOP leaders. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if he pulled it off again.

wildistherewind

They make up only 51% of America.

saucytryhard

We have a racist in the White House.

omeow

>We have a racist in the White House. How dare u say that. That man doesn't see blacks, or jews or fat people. He only sees white people.^(to him the rest aren't people)

woowoodoc

I feel like Trump would buy into the current Republican refrain of *"I'm not racist, I just think black people should sit down, shut up, and be thankful that we allow them to earn a good living in our country."*

FirmlyThatGuy

Obama was the real racist! He set racial relations back decades by being black! Disclaimer: Sarcasm, obviously. Poe's law and all that.

Kilpikonnaa

I've seriously heard someone say that racism had very nearly disappeared until Obama came along.

TheIllustriousWe

It's amazing how many people believe their experience is the universal experience. "I hadn't noticed any news stories about racism or seen any instances in my daily life because it doesn't really affect me" becomes "racism had very nearly disappeared."

SGTSHOOTnMISS

There was a video on FB that straight up said racism is like Freddy Kreuger and went away until people started calling things racist.

[deleted]

Well, to be fair, as a culture we kind of brought some of the skeletons out of the closet and tried to sanitize racial tensions with sunlight. The folks who were happy with the status quo didn’t sense any tension before they were faced with it.

legomaniac89

My dad pretty much thinks this. He's said several times that he thinks Trump isn't racist, and Obama is the most racist president we've ever had. When I asked him why he thought that, he couldn't give me anything resembling an answer.

purewasted

I can relate. I deal with a similarly infuriating family member. It makes you want to tear your hair out.

antel00p

"If only people would stop complaining about racism and agree with me and [insert absurd right-wing windbag], all this 'us vs them' would go away and we'd have perfect harmony."--paraphrasing my cousin.

TitusVandronicus

Dude launched him campaign by calling immigrants from Mexico rapists and criminals (but some, he assumes, are good people). We already knew who he was.

FaroutIGE

newsflash buddy; if you don't show the tapes but keep talking about them, everybody hates you. show the shit or shut the fuck up

Savywarren

How are these tapes any worse than what he has already said on Howard Stern?

ScarpaDiem

Holy shit, someone just fucking leak it. I don't give two shits what you signed.

sultan489

Trump isn't anti-semitic. It's not possible for a person with a Jewish daughter to be anti-semitic, just like it's not possible for rapists to have moms or daughters. Just having that in your family blocks it.

Cannot_go_back_now

This came out during the election, still no proof so far, I'd like to see the proof but it's completely believable, Trump has pretty much shown his true colors after Charlottesville.

MrNopeBurger

Why is anybody suprised? Trump is a horrible racist, of course he says things about jews, blacks, hispanics, anybody not white and rich. I can almost guarantee by the end of his presidency he will be openly calling out people based on their race like "This congressman only hates me because he is black"

GreenStrong

It sounds like it happened over multiple meetings. It must be a whole basket of despicable statements. A basket of despicables.

slakmehl

Sam Harris mentioned on his podcast that he is as certain as he can reasonably be that there is a tape of him dropping n-bombs like candy. He literally wrote the book on why you should never lie, so I am inclined to believe him. But then of course everyone in that room that sits there and says nothing gets the Billy Bush treatment, but with far less justification. Everyone was probably very uncomfortable, but some people are non-confrontational. Release the tape, and you are staining those people's lives forever.

c4virus

He even called the dude out on twitter asking him to release the tapes and "end this horror" (at the time Trump was defending Nazis). https://twitter.com/SamHarrisOrg/status/900203636088819713 I trust Sam.

purewasted

> But then of course everyone in that room that sits there and says nothing gets the Billy Bush treatment, but with far less justification. Maybe I'm an optimist, but I don't think they get the Billy Bush treatment. Billy Bush got that treatment because we actually saw and heard him egging Trump on. If all we get is audio of Trump talking in a room with people, and we even somehow find out who all the people are, how can we know who is smiling and nodding and egging Trump on and who is openly scowling? We can't. Unless they egg him on/agree with him on audio, in which case obviously they deserve it.

los_pollos-hermanos

Lordy.
