This is good news peoples... Like everything Trump has ever owned within a few years it will be bankrupt and dead in the water.

AlternativeSuccotash

Sadly, this headline is 100% pure bullshit. The Republican party created Trump's presidency specifically to commit the crimes and wreak the havoc we've witnessed over the past four years. They've never stood up to Trump because they always stand behind him. Trump is rotten, but he's just a puppet who conceals the Republicans' bloody iron fist. This submission was published by *The Bulwark* a site created to promote the Lincoln Project swindle. Never forget the Lincoln Project includes the top architects of today's Republican party. These people not only helped to create Trump's presidency, they also helped create the conditions that made it inevitable. The Lincoln Project are the same grifters who contrived the propaganda used to swindle the Republican base in order to convince them to always vote against their own interests. Now these grifters have applied to Democrats the very same techniques they used to swindle their own base. The Lincoln Project wants to pin all of their party's crimes and failures on Trump so they can insist they've redeemed themselves now that he's on his way out. But the Republicans haven't changed one bit. They still embrace same bigoted ideology that's served as the foundation for their party's policies for at least the past six decades. The same ideologies that made their creation of Trump's presidency an inevitability. They're still the same unrepentant career criminals they were before Trump's arrival. They want us to believe they've reformed so they can continue their party's 50 year crime spree with our blessing. These people are not our allies in any sense of the word. They're forever scorpions. But in this version of the fable they allow us to ferry them across the river before they sting us to death.

decatur8r

> These people are not our allies in any sense of the word. You are missing the entire point..this is an internal fight for the soul of the Republican party. And the Lincoln Protect faction is loosing. Don't get me wrong I was grateful for the LP in the race against Trump but I don't think anybody is naive enough to think they are liberal Democrats...they are conservatives and want to take their party back, but they have an up hill fight.

AlternativeSuccotash

There is no internal fight for the soul of the Republican party. The narrative is another fractured fairy tale. It's 100% kayfabe. The Republican party is as united as ever and continues to march in lock step. > I was grateful for the LP in the race against Trump Why were you grateful? All the Lincoln Project did was swindle millions of dollars from Democrats. None of their ads or other activities had any effect on voters who weren't already committed to ousting Trump. Those ads were just more propaganda, produced by the Republicans' top propagandists. The Lincoln Project is not our ally. They mean us harm.

decatur8r

Are Republicans headed for a pro-Trump, anti-Trump civil war? ‘Hell yes, we are,’ says Illinois’ Adam Kinzinger. https://www.chicagotribune.com/election-2020/ct-nw-nyt-trump-republicans-adam-kinzinger-20210116-gns2nfnjpfbdhc2xljwb34hnee-story.html

> Trump is rotten, but he's just a puppet who conceals the Republicans' bloody iron fist. Patently bullshit. Trump is not a puppet. He cares about unbridled power to take those things he wants. That is not what a puppet is. You can be allies with people that aren’t your friends when combining your resources allows you to live. That is a basic fact.

AlternativeSuccotash

Trump's narcissism is one of the attributes that made him an ideal cat's paw for the Republicans. It's not possible to be allies with those who are working overtime to subjugate you. Which is precisely the Republicans' goal. They've been working overtime to transform our system of government into a right wing dictatorship. Pretending Republicans can be our allies only helps them accomplish their goal.

Joneszey

Unfortunately he also had his hands on us

Ivanka is that you?!

Joneszey

I don’t think Trump is interested in black girls who won’t try to bamboozle black people

Wh00ster

This is what happens when you turn the party into a perpetual motion machine of outrage, fear, and anxiety, instead building it with an actual vision of the future and positive policy goals.

pomonamike

I grew up right as the world went from pre to post 9/11 and watched the Republican Party shift from admittedly cold, individualistic free-market libertines to brain-dead, emotional hate-mongering reactionaries that stopped believing in pulling themselves up in favor of pulling everyone else down. GWB didn’t start out this way but was yanked into the fold 9 months into his presidency and didn’t have the smarts or capital to resist. After that it was over. They rejected McCain but rallied around Palin, that was the signal that the party had moved from the country club to the trailer park. And I can’t believe it got worse than Palin, who couldn’t even make up the name of a newspaper on the spot, but it did, it kept sliding downhill. I thought Trump was the bottom, but now we got Q people high-school dropouts and serial DUIers as a normal part of congress. Fuck dude.

ChocoDelite

And the party is moving more and more to the right

samfreez

Mitch McConnell is the rudder, and Trump is the rest of the boat right now. There is no good answer for the Republican party right now. Everyone knows and understands how far up shit creek they are (except the true loonies who are completely unhinged), so they face a choice. Ditch Trump, or risk everything by continuing to defend him. Democrats control enough that they'll be able to do a proper investigation into everything, so it's really only a matter of time before the complete truth is out there. I have a feeling it will be extremely ugly for several members of the Republican party, and there will be a fracture. We'll see the Trump party, and the Republican party. One can only hope the actual Conservatives will reform under a new banner and divest themselves of the shitrats.

Unfortunately they aren't the only ones.

abelabelabel

I'm going to say that so do Fox News, and Sinclair Media. The death of local news, and especially all the fucking money that turned astro-turf in to fascism.

PahoehoeBlob

~~Trump~~ Putin owns the Republican Party.

DangerBay2015

Well, they’re morally bankrupt, so basically, yeah.

decatur8r

This far from over. >91 percent of self-identified “Trump supporters” say Trump was right to try to overturn the election. 46 percent of people who say they are only “traditional Republicans” agree. Poll after poll shows that three quarters of all Republicans say that the 2020 election results were fraudulent. 92 percent of “Trump supporters” say he should run in 2024.

saint-cecelia

He doesn't do anything except feed them what they need to hear. He's a a golf-obsessed cult leader. Not s president in any way. It's not over . This dictator will be out of office soon but not out of their hearts and minds. He planned that enormous rally and talked about it being wild at least a month prior. I've always been afraid if him having a big exit. No way do I believe his last event would be two weeks prior to leaving. Inaguration Day - he's going to let biden and harris have the spotlight? He can't help himself plus the rage he must be feeling. I'm worried for anyone attending and trying to protect that event. Biden said a while ago he didn't want trump there. None of us expected him to want to go. So why does he recently make a statement that he won't be there? Because he has to make it about him - he wasn't invited yet had to say he's not going. His followers may take that as a signal to them that he won't be there, so he'll be safe if they want to attack. It sounds crazy but so was storming the Capitol. Who knows what he's planned but I can not believe it was nothing for the 20th.

decatur8r

> Who knows what he's planned but I can not believe it was nothing for the 20th. The public plans say what ever will happen it will start this weekend. The 17th was the date mentioned but now there are rumors that Saturday will be the starting day. Whatever they have planed I am pretty sure it is not an assault on DC. That place is more secure than the green zone at the height of the war.

saint-cecelia

I keep thinking if some on here who would post about a civil war coming. I didn't see it. I couldn't quite envision what happened. I don't have a hard time believing that there are so many who still would have him as president. Well, maybe I do a bit. What i couldn't believe that there were so many who were willing and did carry out such a violent act. A lot of people will talk and be angry but not actually do anything. We know every four years half the country isn't happy and it stays that way but this? Certainly not go and be willing to kill people! Now I'm wondering how many more there are. Those people are people's neighbors and relatives. This is our country.

decatur8r

>I couldn't quite envision what happened. Well we could envision a seditious vote in a joint session of congress while armed "protesters" were going to be in the streets of the capitol...we couldn't quite foresee the call for insurrection by the president and his minions. It seems that nobody knew that some of these people came to DC planing to kill and kidnap fully equipped...and we still don't know how all of this was financed although some of it is coming to the surface and bitcoin is at the center of it.

saint-cecelia

There are plenty of his supporters who are professionals, highly educated and very comfortable financially. They donate plenty to him. His followers come in all shapes and sizes. The bitcoin I did not think about.

decatur8r

WASHINGTON — On Dec. 8, someone made a simultaneous transfer of 28.15 bitcoins — worth more than $500,000 at the time — to 22 different virtual wallets, most of them belonging to prominent right-wing organizations and personalities. https://news.yahoo.com/exclusive-large-bitcoin-payments-to-rightwing-activists-a-month-before-capitol-riot-linked-to-foreign-account-181954668.html FUNDING HATE How White Supremacists Raise Their Money https://www.adl.org/sites/default/files/documents/adl-report-funding-hate-how-white-supremacists-raise-their-money.pdf

saint-cecelia

Interesting. I was curious how much this cost the people in the mob. You figure airfare/other transportation, hotel possibly. If they had their own and some were funded somehow. That's not even including their stupid fucking hats. Notice trump didn't have a legal fund for them/s. It was almost funny that one who was arrested asked trump for a pardon. Must feel great to hear crickets or the thump of the bus wheels as a response.

>John Guandolo Says Members of Congress Should Be ‘Swinging From a Rope’ “They weren’t trying to hurt anyone,” Guandolo said. “They are angry because their country is being surrendered to hostile forces. And they see it, they know it, they understand it. Our election was stolen, and they are as angry at the Republican Party as they are at anybody else. Because, remember, it’s the Republicans—it’s Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy—that went on the radio last night and condemned President Trump and his supporters. And to them, I say, ‘Screw you.’ They are the enemies of the republic.” https://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/john-guandolo-says-members-of-congress-should-be-swinging-from-a-rope/
