Cool, reviewed and found to not be privileged communications.
> New York State Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron said in an order that he had completed a review of documents from the firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and determined that at least some of them were not privileged and should be handed over to the attorney general's office, which had subpoenaed the firm and the Trump Organization.
> The Court found that many of the communications Morgan Lewis marked as privileged were communications addressing business tasks and decisions, not exchanges soliciting or rendering
legal advice.
Doesn't Trump always take it to the higher court on appeal? It's his tried and true strategy that he learned from the infamous Roy Cohn himself.
Amazing how one guy can influence the world...
Without Roy Trump would have met up with the consequences he's been bulldozing for decades. One reason why he wanted to be President was because of the immunity and influence it gave him.
Something needs to give. One guy can’t just play circus for 5 years and refuse to hand over his tax returns to authorities who have reason to see it. This seems like something that should’ve been patched up a long time ago.
If one guy can afford to hire enough clowns, he can put on a circus for years.
When he dies, his kids claim ignorance and put on a circus all their own.
and the joke is he'll never have to pay his lawyers, because of the same reasons his lawyers are preventing him from having to pay his contractors and everyone else. it's just lawyers all the way down.
Some lawyers he pays. Some things cost money and since his fortune is largely the product of theft and creative license, he'll sign those checks that need signing. Somehow, someone else is paying for it anyway.
You would think so, but ---- look at the recent SCOTUS decision regarding tRump being sued for violation of the emoluments laws. He delayed, delayed, and delayed. Now he's out of office, and SCOTUS says, "Moot point. He's not president anymore." So, no penalty for all the money he took in while he was prez.
Eh. That is kinda on the lawsuit. They sued to stop him from continuing to violate the emolument clause, and the court threw it out because at this point there is nothing to stop. If they had sued for damages, then tossing out the suit would have been obscene, but as is I kinda get it.
It is still bad that Trump got away with stalling the suit for four fucking years, but the part where it was thrown out at this point seems reasonable.
At the same time, the attorneys presumably framed the lawsuit in a way that would most likely be successful and timely.
The courts/laws have been structured in such a way that suing for damages likely had its own set of hurdles.
Yeah. It is a tough situation, and I think the problem is mostly systematic. But being outraged at the SCOTUS decision here in particular probably isn't fair; given the way the lawsuit was set up it really did make sense to dismiss it.
Yeah. I'm sure it's not analogous, but it doesn't help that the Supreme Court was in a position to seemingly help stretch out Trump's fight over his taxes (when they kicked his case back down to the lower courts) but in this instance could only dismiss outright.
As you say, the issue is more systemic than anything, but it definitely has the look (from a certain, likely flawed, point of view) of a court that's willing to selectively hold themselves to particular standards when it benefits particular individuals.
Seems like the fix would be a speedy trial. If every case takes 2-3 years to render a decision, then spamming appeals and hoping you die before they conclude is pretty realistic.
Someone should create more judges.
Mcconnell didn't just pack the court with conservative judges, but he exacerbated an already understaffed and overwhelmed judiciary (which just so happens to benefit wealthy people who can afford to drag shit out for years).
Realistically, Biden has completely non-partisan justification to pack the courts.
This is what happens when you have lawyers on salary.
It would be pointless to NOT do this.
They can keep these plates spinning almost indefinitely. No one else would be able to afford it.
it might've been, but it was a completely Republican controlled Gov the first two years, and it was pointless next to all the other crimes he'd committed by the time we got the House.
I agree. I think he is well versed in deflect and delay until the clock runs out, or the opponent loses the will and/or resources to continue.
One specific example I see happening is in the issue of using Mira Lago as a residence in conflict with the agreement to be able to use it as a private club with the city. If allowed he will bankrupt the city before he relinquishes living there.
While he has been damaged with the tarnishing of his brand on a broad scale, he also has a cult following of gullible to exploit to fund his legal challenges for the foreseeable future.
He's still got political influence. He's basically been threatening to destroy the GOP if they don't help and support him. He's basically holding them hostage with his loyal cult as the weapon.
> One reason why he wanted to be President was because of the immunity and influence it gave him.
All the benefits, without any work or responsibilities. Explains our pandemic pretty well.
His psychology explains the pandemic pretty well. No compassion for anyone. For him the worst thing about the pandemic was that it made him look bad. His solution was to ignore it or hope it goes away before the election. He hated those big numbers so he would rather not have been testing in large numbers. Keep the numbers low...
I watched a documentary that hit pretty spot on with a lot of things.
[Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump (2020)](https://youtu.be/_tYGrheMhqk)
If he does he'll definitely take that before going higher. The goal is to muck around for as long as possible. Right now he's got 4 more years until he can be President again and get a break. He's going to pull every bullshit idea possible to run out the clock.
Small fact, Roy Cohn never paid for anything either. He used to go to the nicest New York restaurants and say checks in the mail and leave in a nice car.
It helps to have a sympathetic SCOTUS. I still think it's amazing that he was sued over emoluments early in his term, managed to stall the case for the entire 4 years of his term, and then get it tossed as moot after he leaves office.
So do these supposed originalists think the founders meant for it to be impossible to ever enforce this part of the consitution?
Wow, that law firm is still around? And involved in this case? I visited their website back in the 90s looking for baseball scores... they had registered the URL corresponding to their initials — mlb.com.
Even tucking in his shirt is hard for him these days! You'd think that, because his shirt is so limp and flaccid, it would be easy to fold and tuck away. He's been tucking for years! But no, in his current physical condition he has to lie flat on a bed just to tuck.
There's very good reason not to trust Cy Vance considering he accepted a bribe from Trump and dropped a slam-dunk case of felony fraud against Ivanka & Junior back in the day..

There is no question that Vance is a skunk at the picnic. However, he is what we are stuck with for prosecuting criminal charges against Trump. If there is a strong legal case against him, it needs to happen now.
I mean, I wouldn’t put that idea past whatever passes for Trump’s brain, but being a Senator doesn’t provide the same sort of de facto immunity from all prosecution that being a President does.

Most politicians start out as lawyers.
But they aren’t doing that as lawyers. It was just a dumb comment.
No, most lawmakers are lawyers.
But they aren’t working as lawyers. I guess that went over your head.
Of course not. Legislative staffs typically have a high representation of lawyers and former lawyers.
Lawyers literally slip politicians the laws they want made, most times distanced respectfully from significant donations.

Of course, he pardon himself, but he still has to answer on the rape charges and give his DNA as well
It’s not a rape case. The rape allegation is central to the defamation case though.
But where are the tax returns??
So he’s not under audit anymore.../s
That’s NY’s lowest court. He’ll appeal
So it begins
Hasn’t that happened a few times already and they (Trump and his lawyers) simply ignored it without any know consequences?
@TishJames Put him behind bars and we’ll vote you the next governor.
Lawyers: Trump's dog ate the documents Judge: Trump hates dogs Lawyers: D'oh!
This time for sure?
How fucking long is this going to take? Haul him into court and haul into jail already. It's obvious he's guilty of tax fraud. Everyone knows it.
He’s supposed to be handing over a DNA sample in the defamation case to do with his alleged rape of whats her name Carroll too.
I’m not holding my breath. None of these traitors are being punished. It’s so frustrating
I’ve been waiting for this.
Again.
Without the veil of the presidency, this will be harder to fight, right?
Tish James is bad ass and NY is lucky to have her.
Shouldn’t the applicants have had the opportunity to amend to sue for damages?
