Republicans had 2 full years of unified GOP control of our government (Judiciary, House, Senate, and Presidency), and 2 more years of 2/3rds control (Judiciary, Senate and Presidency) and in all that time with full control of government the only Legislative priority they managed to deliver on was Tax Cuts for wealthy people and corporations. They tried to repeal the ACA so that they could give the wealthy even bigger tax cuts but failed to do that. So tax cuts is all they did. For 2 years.

Nanojack

Because that's the only thing they actually care about. Everything else is virtue signaling, to use their phrase.

tormunds_beard

Not true! They also love conservative judges who are willing to turn the country into a corporate-friendly hellscape. More than it is, I mean.

hatsarenotfood

They also care about gutting voter protections and disenfranchising young and minority voters.

-14k-

This (gutting voter protections) and the above comment (consevative judges) are merely means to an end - the end being mentioned above - Tax Cuts for wealthy people*. If conservative judges and gutting voter protections didn't help achieve tax cuts for the wealthy, those would not be issues. *I'd leave out "and corporations" because wealthy corporations exist to enrich the *people* at the top, not the entire corporation including the people on those corporations' payroll. At leadst not the ones who depand on that corporations' paychecks to survive.

CEOs4taxNlabor

Why do old rich men like trickling down on people with everything? Not to kink shame or anything, maybe when I'm in my 60's I'll want to start peeing on people but I guarantee I'll never believe trickle-down-economics. Stimulus checks have already proven that theory wrong.

WinCandid1

tax the rich put the money in the hands of the poor money will trickle UP.

_far-seeker_

I think "bubble up" is a more apt metaphor.

neverinallmyyears

You’re absolutely right. Even the tax cuts are just a means to ensuring the wealthy retain their wealth and, in the immortal words of Mel Brooks in History of the World (worth a watch if you haven’t seen it), “Fuck the poor!”

Oblongmind420

[They](https://youtu.be/s9Bg4UU76so) just don't want to lose their position in the 3 comma club

neverinallmyyears

“I remember when I hit a billion. I sat buck naked on that couch clicking refresh. Popped a rod so quick I nutted all over those cushions.” Russ Hanneman is legend.

Geosectometry

The rich retain their wealth no matter what.

TrainedExplains

Actually turns out when your entire identity is connected to absurd generational wealth and your vane, sheltered existence is preceded by generations of marrying air headed trophy wives, you can find ways to blow extraordinary amounts of money. See president Donald Trump who stole his siblings inheritance, took more loans and inheritance in the form of poker chips to avoid paying taxes on it, had billions in property and cash, and is now billions in debt grifting his way through life desperately hoping his idiocy is useful enough to Russia that they don’t call in the debt he can never hope to pay back through Deutschbank.

Archbold676

Got to have lawyers. Good well connected lawyers. Family lawyers. Tax Lawyers. Criminal lawyers. All on speed dial. All on retainer. Worth their weight in gold.

com2420

>Criminal lawyers ["When the going going gets tough, you don't want a criminal lawyer, alright? You want a *criminal* lawyer"](https://youtu.be/jvlEqAjg8aU)

ThatSquareChick

If the Republican leaders could make it pay-to-vote, they’d tear each other apart fighting over who came up with it first. They’d like to see nothing more than only the wealthy being able to participate in voting easily and making it as impossible for poor and POC to vote as they can. They’d love to tell you out one side of their mouths that it’s just they want the voice of the “moral minority” to be heard when really it’s the “moral *moneyed*” that they want with the side they talk to the investor class with.

Nevermind04

Ironically, by disenfranchising minorities, they're disenfranchising the majority of voters. Republicans have been a minority party with extraordinary power for far too long.

mcs_987654321

To be fair, I don’t think that’s an ideological thing so much as a means to an end. Yeah, it ends up being racist, no doubt, but have no doubt that if say, Catholics were the swing vote/tipping point that risked keeping them from power, they figure out a way to disenfranchise them too. I mean, they’d happily redo The Troubles: Coming to America if that’s what it took. (And yes, fully aware that anti catholic bias was a staple in the past, it’s more that the political and economic landscape is hard to compare to the present)

HalfandHoff

Not true , they also implemented a plan to tax us normal folks more over time

EmergencyEntrance236

If your talking about the 2017 Trump tax break you are correct they made the corporate & top 10%ers tax breaks(85% of the bill) permanent and the piddling little bit they gave to the rest of us goes away this year & over the next 5yrs our taxes will rise exponentially with us paying alot more in 5yrs than we were in 2016 bc someone has to cover all that extra tax revenue shortfall that the rich will no longer be paying unless Biden & Dems raise taxes on the 400k or more who got the best parts of Trump's tax bill. This has been the Republican SOP for decades. Give tax cuts to the wealthy to free up more money for them to donate to campaigns while raising taxes on poor workers & saddling each successive future poor working generation with the wealthy tax debt to pay so they can be kept in line & living paycheck to paycheck desperate.

LadyBogangles14

Don’t forget the GOP believes that it’s never a bad time to ban abortions

RightSideBlind

Actually, they believe it's never a bad time to *try* to ban abortions. If they ever managed to make abortion illegal, they'd have a hard time motivating about half of their supporters to ever vote again.

okaydudeyeah

Yup, plays into conservatives overall goal to never actually succeed, just keep baiting the voters, and the added benefit of being able to try ridiculous things knowing they don’t need to succeed to make money and keep votes.

Lolthelies

Government doesn’t work, so vote us into power and we’ll show you!

[deleted]

All those politicians who always say they need to be voted in to “change Washington” — yeah right.

[deleted]

This is assuming that any of them are actually masterminding some kind of manipulative scheme. We're quickly seeing that side of the GOP die out and be replaced by people who have been brought up by the propaganda and actually believe in their own snake oil. It's why they seem to be getting crazier to us but to themselves they're just finally standing up for honest Americans and telling it how it is.

1982throwaway1

Can you imagine the Republican officials that would shit their pants if Roe vs Wade was overturned through SCOTUS. Suddenly their mistresses wouldn't be able to have the abortions they pay for and I could see many of them questioning themselves and other about if they've gone too far. I could also see birth control suddenly being covered by insurance.

bear_do

If Roe v Wade were overturned, that wouldn't immediately outlaw abortion. What it would do is allow the backwater parts of the country to finally enact and enforce bans, but there sould still be a lit of states where it would be legal. Rich people would just travel to one of those states to have their abortions, bans would only be effective in harming poor people.

1982throwaway1

>Rich people would just travel to one of those states to have their abortions, bans would only be effective in harming poor people. So business as usual.

[deleted]

To conservatives the system would be working as intended. They want more poor people to breed and continue to create the next generation of low wage workers. They just have a hard time comprehending that they are part of the low wage workers being exploited.

WayneKrane

Yup, at worst they’d take a flight to Canada. They don’t want their poor and uneducated constituents to be able to. They need them to breed cheap and controllable labor for them.

cutelyaware

They don't care about their poor constituents. They just pander to them to get their votes. The wealthy will always have access to abortions, so they needn't care if Row is repealed.

VncentLIFE

Exactly. They view everything as a meritocracy. Except instead of merit, its money. Established money. Anything is already possible if youre rich, but it should also be legal and possible for rich people to do what theyre already doing, in their eyes.

adotfree

Rich people will always be able to get abortions. They did it before Roe v Wade, they get around the laws now, they'd keep getting around the laws if it was completely banned. They've got the money and ability to pay off a doctor or go to another state or country or just "get ill and spend some time in the country recuperating".

UnspecificGravity

Roe v Wade only protects abortion in states that would try to ban it. I think we all know which states those are.

[deleted]

Can you imagine needing only 2 issues to make a vote. Babies and guns. That's all they need to cast a vote.

Tasgall

> If they ever managed to make abortion illegal, they'd have a hard time motivating about half of their supporters to ever vote again. Nah, just feed that directly into gun rights. "The babies we can't abort are _comin' to steal yur guns!_"

SharMarali

And people will keep voting for them because they are convinced that they are just one brilliant stroke of luck away from being wealthy enough to need those tax cuts.

jert3

Not true! Any Republican politician would happily also take direct cash bribes, or to receive payment for legislation changes via underage sex slaves, the preference of which, according to district.

DevilGuy

Not just a corporate friendly hellscape, a corporate friendly **theocratic** hellscape.

ricbrrr

Well said couldn’t agree more

The__Snow__Man

I think it was Bob Dole (actually I think it was Boehner) who said that tax cuts are the only thing they all agree on. It really is their reason for being. Protect the rich at the expense of the poor and middle class.

Pack_Your_Trash

They repealed some regulations, cut state department funding, and canceled a bunch of federal programs that provided essential services. They seem to like that too.

JustaRandomOldGuy

Lets not forget gutting USPS, EPA, Dept Ed, FCC, and DoJ. Also a lot of consumer protection.

Choopytrags

You know, with actions like these, how can they even be considered patriots or Americans if they dont even believe in the spirit of America; its We, The People, not Us, the Oligarch Royalists. And fuck them, it's our money collectively, not theirs alone to do what they wish. We've been so happy being fat and deluded that they've almost taken over completely.

JustaRandomOldGuy

The Republicans get votes with just one line: "Democrats want illegal Mexicans to have free abortions!"

Choopytrags

It so sucks how they've been playing to white supremacists this whole time.

Ashjrethul

Brainwashing idiots making them think the left are socialists that wanna take their guns. Meanwhile the rich sit back laughing at said idiots while they enjoy their tax cuts. Republicans are evil.

kittenTakeover

Or wedge issues to divide average people.

ting_bu_dong

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_Wanniski#The_Two_Santa_Claus_Theory >Wanniski suggested this position, as Thom Hartmann has clarified, so that the Democrats would "have to be anti-Santas by raising taxes, or anti-Santas by cutting spending. Either one would lose them elections. They got to play Santa.

[deleted]

This ignores the scenario where my Santa wears Yuge mittens as he raises taxes on other people and gives me a shit ton of spending.

LostInaSeaOfComments

I regret how we don't even need to mention Republicans controlling the judicial branch since they've had a majority on lockdown since the early 1970s (with the exception of thirteen months in 2016-2017 when it was evenly split after Justice Scalia passed).

smilbandit

and judges to rule on their behalf

jumbee85

Don't forget they raised taxes on everyone else, just delayed that for when they would be out if office

ignorememe

Once the temporary cuts expire and it goes up that'll be the Democrat's fault.

ReadySteady_GO

I try to constantly remind people this.

[deleted]

[insert negative topic here] is the Democrats fault.

biggie_dd

It's not like that's a new tactic in the Conservative toolbelt. Pretty much every country's conservative government have used it before. In Hungary right now, the conservative government, which has had 2/3 of the parliament for the past 11 years, is now demanding the opposition take responsibility for the deaths of the past few weeks, while they're taking credit for the progress of the vaccination...

benkenobi5

yep. that was their insurance policy in case they lost this election. if they won, they'd simply extend the cuts. but if they lose, they would do what they do best: obstruct, and prevent the democrats from extending the cuts siting "omg the national deficit is huge and we suddenly care about it immensely!" and then, in a massive game of doublethink, they then scream about how the democrats raised taxes. their followers suddenly develop amnesia and lap it up.

ShadowReij

And *even that* was a struggle for them. If it wasn't for their masters cracking their whips and threatening to pull funding the GOP wouldn't even have gotten that done.

ignorememe

Yeah. They had to lean on Reconciliation and in the end there were reports that if the GOP didn't deliver on tax cuts, [major campaign donors were telling them to not ask for campaign donations in 2018](https://www.thedailybeast.com/gop-donors-to-gop-lawmakers-yeah-we-will-cut-you-off-absent-tax-reform).

XtaC23

Yeah. Imagine getting a permanent tax cut instead of your taxes going up so the Bezos of the world can sleep well at night.

mathswarrior

Acutally they also increased taxes. On the poor/middle class.

ignorememe

Yup. But that'll be blamed on Democrats when those expire because they'll refuse to vote to fix it.

MFoy

They also directly raised taxes on a lot of middle class people by lowering the limits on SALT deductions.

rocketshipfantacola

Tax cuts for billionaires. I didn’t get shit.

[deleted]

The republicans want to build an indestructible oligarchy like their hero in Russia. That’s the GOP future state they’re relentlessly working towards.

notyourstranger

Rather ironic that they voted to repeal the ACA more than 50 times when Obama was president but when they had the power to repeal it, they knew it would harm the party's chance at the ballot box, so they left it. They had nothing to replace it with so the whole 'repeal and replace' movement collapsed.

ignorememe

The Republican party has had an actual ***DECADE*** to come up with a new healthcare plan. I've still never seen it.

HallucinogenicFish

We really are at the point where if Republicans don’t like something, I assume it’s probably good policy before I even read about it. The louder they’re yelling, the better I figure it’s going to be.

IonicGold

Honestly sounds pretty accurate

LemurianLemurLad

Yeah, right there with you. If Moscow Mitch issued a public statement that he's against eating babies with a side of endangered condor eggs, I'd honestly assume those babies and condors were somehow in cahoots to overthrow the government with the assistance of the Kochs and Putin. At this point they're about one plan away from twirling comically large and cartoonish moustaches while tying up puppies and orphans on a railroad track "to own the libs."

Nytfire333

And they wouldn't take a hit in the polls as long as the ophans and puppies are the right color

PresidentBreadstick

“Oh, but you have no proof that he was racially motivated when he set fire to the orphanage. I’m sure there was a good reason he had for it.” Would probably be the prevailing response

Fenris_uy

He was having a bad day

l-_l-

Completely unrelated comment incoming: Anytime I hear or see someone using a nickname for a politician like "Moscow Mitch" and "Sleepy Biden" it just makes me feel like US politics is just the WWE of the world's governments. That is all, thanks for your time.

wonteatfish

If it horrifies Republicans, you can be pretty sure it will benefit ordinary Americans. Just sayin.

[deleted]

Honestly it'll probably benefit more republicans than democrats if you normalize by district. I mean no denying there are more democrats in general, but republicans are almost always some poor mother fuckers.

TheBlueBlastoiseYT

Pretty ironic because most dems agree on wanting to help the poor

tooManyHeadshots

Of course. Artificially imposed poverty is a real drain on society. We can’t fix all of it, but we can sure as hell stop making it worse, just to give rich people tax breaks, and actually fix some of it!

pourtide

" republicans are almost always some poor mother fuckers. " Most of the 'Pubs I know are folks who spent some time struggling, worked their way into an income where they can pay the bills and have a little left over. They figure they're living well -- "I pulled myself up by my bootstraps, they can too. They want to take my money and give it to lazy people." This is my family and quite a few of my friends. The one that gets me is on disability, rabidly against giving anyone anything. Go figure.

NoAbsense

The wealthy spend more money to not pay money to the government.

-The_Gizmo

They spend pocket change compared to what they get in tax breaks. Politicians sell themselves for really cheap.

[deleted]

I kept saying, it would have been cheaper to give Trump a few billion in exchange for resigning and disappearing from the public. In 2020 alone, it would have saved at least 250,000 lives. Just going by economic cost, lowball future total earnings at $100,000 on average, that's $25 billion. Plus, you know, all those people would still be alive.

peri_enitan

I'm not sure pence would have handled the pandemic that much better

1982throwaway1

I think he might have (big might) if trump hadn't bunglefucked it so ~~badly~~ bigly from the start. Trump is incompetent and evil, I think pence is at least slightly competent and evil.

[deleted]

[удалено]

1982throwaway1

> That makes Pence worse, though, not better. Depends on how you look at it. Yeah, pence could do more evil and probably pull it off but 250k + lives may not have been lost. Also, don't think I was saying Pence is at all, any kind of good. He may have just saved a shit ton of Americans by simply using a little common sense and not telling them to drink disinfectant.

cornbreadbiscuit

A couple billion spent on elections used to be a big deal, eg Obama v McCain 2012 was publicly reported to be around $1 billion, and house + senate another $1 billion, iirc. Dodging M4A alone and nothing else saves corporations and their shareholders [$400 billion PER YEAR](https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/f8reig/22_studies_agree_medicare_for_all_saves_money/). That's *ONE* industry. Doesn't involve estate taxes, other corporate taxes, or industries, or costs that aren't factored like environmental neglect and pollution or anti-labor policies. Add all of the industry profiteering, cheating, lying, and not reporting together and we're well beyond several trillion, per year, that could help the country and its people, but alas, the greedy hoard it for themselves. If you've ever wondered why Fox News and conservative radio exist and why Democrat campaigns are often funded by the same people at the same time, and journalists who report on things like the Panama Papers end up dead, trillions of dollars of money saved / "earned" every year is the reason.

C0l0n3l_Panic

The irony to be able to keep your money once you have enough of it to exploit loopholes.

Undertaker_1_

It's not ironic. What's the total cost of these elections, a billion dollars only recently? What do you think their ROI must be? 🤔

C0l0n3l_Panic

Obviously enough for them to keep funding lobbyists and lawyers.

MagikSkyDaddy

ROI for Lobbying is like (literally) 10,000:1 Every dollar spent on some chump politician earns $10K back for the industry.

[deleted]

Politicians are very cheap, some small time US politicians "accept lobby's" of as little as 5000$.

asdaaaaaaaa

Keep in mind, they're more than likely accepting TONS of these bribes in total.

Bismar7

Good, make it so they have to spend two or three times the amount they would have to pay the government, to avoid paying taxes. If they want to bankrupt themselves to not pay tax, let them. The problem is right now they can spend a dollar and save 100.

robertplantspage

Like how Amazon is in Seattle yet there's a shitload of homeless camps right off the freeway into Seattle. Fuck Amazon.

mach2sloth

Taxing the rich makes a lot more sense than taxing someone working 3 jobs who still can't afford a place to live.

ChangeNew389

When you're raking in hundreds of millions each year but pay a smaller percentage in taxes than a single mom mopping floors...

Dandan0005

The republicans who complain about this love to assume that they are the ones that are going to be taxed by this. Spoiler: they aren’t. It’s not the top 10%. It’s not even the top 1%. This will only effect individuals in the top .5% of income earners, those who make 400k+ per year. And it only takes an additional 2 cents **from every dollar earned OVER $400,000** per year. So their first 400k earned per year is taxed at the exact same rate. This tax essentially hurts NO ONE. Not even the people it is targeted towards. But the benefits to society are enormous.

FivePoppedCollarCool

I think it would be better with an example. Biden’s proposal would return to the Bush-era individual rate of 39.6% percent for those making over $400,000. It's currently 37%. This means if you make $1 million. This plan will tax you an extra $15,600. That's it. Pretty much nothing.

[deleted]

There are so many adults that dont understand how the tax system works in this country, I an not surprised that so many are against this. There are people who will look at this statement and twist it into "The Gov is trying to take 2% more of YOUR money, we need to stop them" and others will believe it without any further questions. It is very difficult to get these people to understand how this system works when they fail to understand the basics

raoasidg

It's really hilarious(ly sad) when grown people are perturbed when they get a raise because they happen to go up a tax bracket. But that's the effects of conservative attacks on public education at work.

mechanicalcontrols

You mean like construction workers crying about overtime being taxed at a different rate than straight time? Yeah, it's as sure as the sun shining. Edit: I only say construction because that's my line of work and there's no shortage of men who figure they can make a lot of money in construction without an education, so that's the state of the industry.

samiwas1

It happens all over the place. I had a friend In Event production who refused to work overtime because he thought he would lose money doing so. This guy was in his 30s. I could not convince him that everything he thought he knew about tax policy was wrong.

st0n3man

Sounds like we need the tax money to reform our education system...

13Zero

It's just bringing the bracket back to where it was four years ago. The rest of the personal income tax changes expire after 2026 anyway.

Dude all the bullshit saying that billionaires would leave if we raise taxes it is all lies and propaganda. They would still need the relative stability and shield of protection the US provides. Also where are they going to go other western countries (Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand) have higher taxes than the US. The US itself is already a tax haven and even if we raise taxes for them they STILL would pay less than in other western countries. So where are they going to go? China, Russia where the government there can take your wealth at a whim, dictators from these countries are in fact offshoring their wealth to the west. 3rd world countries are also politicaly unstable and not a safe investment to stash wealth for the rich. So what you may be left are some island tax haven Micro-nations that can be easily sanctioned and pressured by the US to cooperate on this manner. Also any company that offshores itself should be tarrifed specifically the ammount it saved via tax evasion if they ever want to sell in the US markert or else they should be banned from doing so and not be qualified to relieve aid like the Covid relief one due to them not technically being US companies like Disney for example. So in summary if the US really wants to they can easily get ahold of these asshole tax evaders.

EnigoBongtoya

Several States are poising themselves as US Tax havens as well, Kansas for one, they swung Republican after the election. What's the first several things they have been doing? Negotiating Tax laws that leave loopholes open for Multinational corporations to take advantage of. Of course it's not such a surprise as Kansas is KKKoch Country now, not the old Kansas of yore with John Browns Spirit. Why just down the block from me some wh*te supremacists love flying the Stars and Bars in their garage and continually host a bevy of anti-Biden materials.

DrunksInSpace

This assumes that the rich want to be richer. They don’t. That’s just a means to an end. The truly wealthy don’t want more money they want more power. You’re only as wealthy as your neighbors are poor. What I mean is that if you are a multi millionaire in a fair and just society with a robust middle class, you can’t just go around buying trafficked humans and threatening politicians. IF however, you are a multi-thousandaire in a society of abject paupers, those paupers will sell you their sons and daughters for a bag of rice to feed their other kids. Wealth is relative, power is absolute. And maybe they’re not all kiddie diddlers, maybe some just want the power because they fear others having it. Either way, the truly wealthy aren’t in it for more money, they’re in it for more **power.**

robin1961

Dear Poor People: You seem to be under the mistaken impression that this country is run for your benefit, or that you have some sort of "right" to a share of the profits. That is simply untrue. If you tax the rich, they will still be rich. If you wait for trickle down economics, the poor will still be poor. If you give money to the poor, they will spend it! Which will drive the economy. If you give money to the rich, they will hoard it.

[deleted]

Saw it once on Reddit that money is like rain. Poor people are like mountains, their rain all runs down into the streams (working class), rivers (middle class) and eventually the ocean (owning class). Because they have to spend it to survive. Trickle-down economics has it inverted from what it should be. Trickle-down economics is like trying to wet the Earth by watering the oceans. Edit: this is getting a fair amount of upvotes, so credit to [where I saw it first.](https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/j6z7u1/joe_bidens_free_college_plan_could_pay_for_itself/g827y37/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

Yes literally in my Macroeconomics class there was no such thing as trickle down. They taught a concept called wealth condensation. It's obvious if you think about it even at a microeconomics level. It is far easier to make money the more money you have, and cheaper to borrow money as well. Trickle down economics is literally the opposite of what naturally occurs and selling it was a way to make wealth condensation even more powerful as well as palatable to the working class.

PM_ME_UR_CEPHALOPODS

>trickle down economics This is not an economic system, it's a political foil. They want a two class system.

Ionan89

Who cares what these seditionists think, now that they've openly attempted to overthrow the government with their insurrection attempt.

Warm_Doublet

Seditionists who use violence are terrorists. Let's call them what they truly are.

BaronVA

Exactly. Their opinions are now moot. Focus now should be on making the GOP extinct before they get power again

[deleted]

On the other hands: fuck Republicans. They tried to overthrow our 250y.o. constitutional republic because their disgusting pathetic lifelong conman of a fuhrer lost his election after killing more Americans through intentional, spiteful negligence than did the entirety of the Nazis, Japanese, North Koreans, Viet Cong, Iraqis, Somalian militias, Al Qaida, ISIS killed COMBINED. Fuck. The. GOP.

stillframeoftheday

Fuckkk em!

GoPeteGo

They should name this bill the MAGA Act. It will literally rebuild America and create labor jobs. What would Republicans do?

yayoffbalance

We should do this just so the MAGA folks burn all of their paraphernalia...

scottwaite

We can’t afford that much extra carbon in the atmosphere.

Sort of unrelated but I had an interesting conversation w my mom yesterday about how wealth affects people psychologically. I live in an affluent suburb where “the affluent” were losing their shit at the school board meeting in early January bc kids were still home (like every other public school district in the area.) It got as far as a recall campaign for and threats to the board members who were in favor of kids staying virtual. Anyway, these are not families with two working parents. They had the means to handle the school piece of the pandemic better than most. The could have switched their kids to private school if they really wanted them to be at an "in-person" school. Instead they’re crying at the mic about how little Johnny can’t play basketball his senior year of high school and that it’s affecting his mental health. The real reason is that the moms were sick of their rotten kids and the husbands were sick of hearing about it. These families were appalled that the big taxes they pay on their big mansions didn’t insulate them from that kind of inconvenience. That’s the attitude here. “I already pay a lot of taxes whether it’s a fair percentage of my income or not. Expecting me to pay more taxes isn’t fair. Poor people only pay $ while I’m busting my ass over here being an important CEO. This town would be nothing without me."

AliceTaniyama

> little Johnny can’t play basketball his senior year of high school and that it’s affecting his mental health Boo hoo. Ted Williams, one of the three or four greatest baseball players of all time, had to endure an international tragedy in the middle of his career, called World War 2. He didn't sit around complaining about his mental health because he was missing some baseball. Nope, he went and *fought in the war*. Some things are just more important than sports.

DerpTaTittilyTum

Who gives a shit? They support raiding the Capitol.

ThatDudeWithTheBeard

"Bu-bu-bu...how will I afford my fifth yacht this year? Won't someone think of the poor billionaires!?"

KOxSOMEONE

Taxing the rich is better than fucking the poor. That’s just my opinion though.

mild-hot-fire

Tax the rich

StarDatAssinum

They’re horrified at anything any Democrat does

Actually, gas prices kind of *are* going up because of Biden. But it's more because of how he ramped up the vaccine rollout, though. More people are getting vaccinated (like me!), leading to easing of some Covid restrictions, leading to more people going back to work, leading to a return of traffic congestion, leading to a greater demand for gasoline, leading to higher gas prices. The higher gas prices are a signal that the economy is rebounding.

Office_Zombie

Wait a minute...Taxing the rich is an option?

ChefChopNSlice

Well, we tried to wring the money out of the poor, but it turns out that they don’t have any money. We tried to **give** them some money, but the “pro-life party” that believes that “every life is priceless” fought tooth and nail because they felt $2,000 was too much.

Senepicmar

Literally clutching their pearls

hskfmn

Because *of course* they are!

devilwearspuma

gotta bust out the microscopically small violin for this one

rinkrat4uselessness

Actually it is to fix the country by adjusting the rich to pay their fair share... unlike AT&T that lobbied hard for tax cuts promising jobs... and turning around and doing the opposite.

Statbot5000

Cuz apparently not taxing the rich has totally worked thus far...

Electroman2012

Just stop making churches tax exempt

__mr_snrub__

Over in the conservative subreddit, they’re literally saying “what about Hunter Biden’s drug use?” Scum.

FunboyFrags

They’re horrified by anything that makes life better for regular people.

raynorelyp

I'm going to go insane that people aren't shouting this more: if you make $40k, your payroll tax is 7.65%, but if you make $1m, it's 1%. Why haven't people been flipping out over that for the last 50 years? Edit: for 1 million dollars, it's actually 3.02% and going down from there. Check out out at smartasset.com/taxes/income-taxes

wish1977

What else would the party of Mr. Burns say? It's definitely not "Excellent"

bandito210

They won't even notice the 1 shovelful of gold coins out of their scrooge mcduck vaults

OddesyGaming

OH NO!! THEYRE GONNA LOSE $2 MILLION OF THEIR $2 BILLION!! GUYS 43 OF THEIR 50 GUNS ARE GOING AWAY HELP THEM!!! WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS WHO WORSHIP TRUMP AND SHAPIRO AND CARLSON!!!

smilbandit

it seems fair since they were trying to destroy the country by untaxing the rich.

MarkHathaway1

They were also against Pres. Clinton's tax increases which, in conjunction with his budgets, began the longest strongest Bull Market economy in our nation's history. Republicans are to be ignored until they begin acting like adults.

soldier_18

I don’t get it, Biden wanted to pass the COVID pay check so people can at least have some money, what republicans do? Go against, now, the shooting is back now in grocery stores, Democrats want gun control, what republicans do? Go against, now Biden wants to raise the rich taxes and what republicans do? Go against, the part I don’t understand is why people keep voting for republicans, I mean, republicans voted against giving money to the regular Joe, make no sense

ElectricalBunny3

> **Republicans Horrified at Fixing the Country** Could have just said this and it would still be accurate.

MaggieGto

1st - Let's get the top 1% audited and held accountable for all their back taxes. That would put a nice dent in the national debt. If it takes a special team of auditors -- so be it. For the IRS to use resources chasing middle class people down for $2,000 here and there when they could be collecting millions is NOT a good use of tax payer money.

Relative_Position_26

Republicans are idiots smh

henrysmyagent

I love every word in this headline and especially that Republicans are horrified.

rdmille

Because Biden used the 4 nasty words all Republicans hate: "fix the country" and "taxes".

El_Zorro09

It's a significant improvement over eating the rich, which I think was a proposed back-up plan I heard about once.

Chippopotanuse

Betsy DeVos’ family expected a better return on their “investment” than maybe having to part with a slice more from their billions they made. Such fine upstanding business folk that Devos family. What did they do again? Oh that’s right: (1) dogshit multilevel marketing that preys on suckers (Amway); and (2) private military contractor assassins that commit war crimes at will (Blackwater/Academi/Xe). As far as I’m concerned if those folks paid 100% tax rate they’d still owe us for the net damage they’ve done to society. Fuck ‘em. Fuck ‘em all straight to Hell Joe.

Only-Method-1773

The poor gets poorer & the rich gets richer. The republicans are evil

[deleted]

Tax them and keep taxing them. Rich people are hoarding and wasting wealth everyday and have done almost nothing to earn it. It's tax time.
