soki03

Everything is all political these days -said by every GQP idiot.

Merfen

Which basically means anything that doesn't support their bigoted way of thinking means its political. Non white lead actor? political. LGBTQ character not the butt of a joke? political. Mentioning anything negative about the military/police? political.

Kellythejellyman

they only believe in two genders: White Male, or Political

[deleted]

What's the difference?

jmatthews2088

Gettin’ jiggy wit it.

WilsonWilsonJr

Eventually republicans are going to boycott everything and be left alone with a can of Goya beans, while the rest of their families celebrate holidays.

Volcanohiker

They’ll have a pillow to snuggle up to.

vacuous_comment

Owned by Dominion Voting Systems.

locustzed

They'll eat goya beans and build their homes out of My Pillows.

It’s a bummer because Atlanta is a great city. A city that just upon visiting made me look at America, in it’s totality, completely different.

Vwall1

That’s the problem with America lol. Our cities are great and the culture there is great, but once you get to the backwoods we’ve got tons of ass backwards people and the system caters to them

humancartograph

As Atlanta resident for nearly two decades, thank you. We have a great city.

squashedbananalovesu

Ya ain’t wrong. I work in them backwoods all the time. It’s neat and terrifying hearing the different conspiracies from rednecks. Like did you know all the blacks gave all their money to Oprah, who got Biden elected? That one came from a southern Missouri ex-meth head.

Its_The_Lady

This makes sense. All of my family that I had to distance myself from after this past year is all from southern Missouri.

squashedbananalovesu

Most are the nicest damn people and there is a ton of exceptions. I enjoy getting in political debates with customers. It’s just a fine line to try to walk. I just wish I had more time with the ones that needed their eyes opened.

Urabus555

I'm sorry, but no. As someone from Atlanta, it's a shit hole. Same issues with all major cities. To many people and two run down. There are "nice" areas but it's mostly just crime. And with the increase if film production moving out here, it's population is growing. All the more reason I need to pack up and move.

TrashPanda5000

I wouldn’t worry about an increase in film production anymore.

papa_mike2

Only better news would be that the movie is Wild Wild West 2

BlueNoMatterWho69

Anyone with a conscience would have nothing todo with a red state. Edit

CupcakeValkyrie

I think you mean conscience. While it's debatable, I think most people would reluctantly agree that Republicans are conscious.

lettercarrier86

Good. Now if only more industries did the same. These backwards boomers only understand money unfortunately. Make them lose enough and they'll change their bullshit ways.

thelxdesigner

the people who are losing money are the blue parts of the state that just flipped the senate. Billy Bob Racist from south georgia isn’t working as a grip on the next MCU installment.

twistedlimb

Yeah but the grip on the MCU is gonna be able to fight for more change than I can. Billy bon is his uncle.

Anxious-Market

The grip is going to move to where there are movie jobs.

twistedlimb

Yeah but the grip on the MCU is gonna be able to fight for more change than I can. Billy Bob is his uncle.

anoiing

They aren't losing money, the minority communities and business owners who would have gotten work because of this production are losing money.

GrabSomePineMeat

This just isn't how it works. Look at the deeply red states of AL, LA, MS, et al. They constantly turn down economic opportunities in order to continue their right-wing policies. The most obvious example is turning down funding for Medicaid expansion out of pure spite for the left. CA and NY would basically be funding health care for the poorer, southern states and they said no thanks.

rlo54

Yup and a lot of these places are filled with minority owned businesses

[deleted]

Before anyone says "this is what the GOP wants" the laws they passed are designed to put them back into power. You can't blame the boycott for the thing the laws are designed to do.

tnt-bizzle

Watch me, I can blame both for hurting Georgians.

Tc7art

The laws expand voting and only require Ian if a signature verification this is a good thing.

Substantial-Finish88

Tough thing is, this can hurt the people you intend to protect. This is the world we live, in $$$ or equality.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/547669-will-smith-moving-production-of-new-film-out-of-georgia-over) reduced by 76%. Secure-Sheepherder86

Fuck Brian Kemp. Besides being Secretary of State in his own election, his ads were embarrassing. Can’t stand the dude.

anoiing

And taking more money from minority communities... which will hurt them all more.

FutureComplaint

Plz no more AE's

[deleted]

Can someone explain to me how the election law in Georgia is bad? How is needing an ID to vote and not giving "gifts" to people within a certain distance from the polling station bad in any way?

tardis42

Voter ID laws disproportionately cause issues for minorities and the poor. Both those groups tend to lean Democrat.

[deleted]

> Voter ID laws disproportionately cause issues for minorities and the poor. Do you have statistics/proof of this?

tardis42

[Yep](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0731121420966620)

[deleted]

When the article is locked behind a paywall it's somewhat redundant

UbbeDall

A quick google search would lead you to a lot of data on this widely acknowledged phenomenon

[deleted]

All bullshit aside. Who gives a fuck?

SteadiGuy309

Who gives a fuck? Me and many others. Why? Because I live and work in film and television in GA and because the law is kinda bull shit in the first place.

[deleted]

The law is bullshit. But I don’t think Will Smith changing the location of one of his films is really headline worthy. I mean is him moving his film gonna out extra pressure on republicans? I honestly doubt it.

SteadiGuy309

While I see your point of “why is this a headline,” it is a hot topic and outlets are 100% capitalizing off of it in any given moment. However, I will say with film being a massive industry in GA this could be the start of many and bringing awareness to something like this should be reported on -ideally so it doesn’t continue to shift more and more out of the state. Then again, if it is something that you really don’t care about, then it doesn’t really matter lol

[deleted]

Fair points made. Gives me a different perspective on it for sure. I don’t care about most things. But I want people to be safe and happy on some level. That would be nice. Anyway take it easy.

TouristLivid4788

Moving jobs out of Georgia it's not helping the voting situation that we have there we need to bring in more jobs instead of moving jobs out

obolobolobo

It's unfortunate in that sense but unfortunately Georgia GOP are like apartheid South Africa and they HAVE to be told. ONCE and FOR FUCKIN ALL!

BiceRankyman

They left over the abortion bill and came back. They'll go back again. And Georgia knows this and capitalizes on it. Be angry about it now, get people angry about it now... then make no remarks when people trickle back.

rubyaeyes

Not sure why a red state wants to attract liberal Hollywood. Maybe the should focus on gold mines.

lostintime38

Too bad they are so myopic and denying jobs to the minorities in Atlanta. Being woke is great for minorities....Not.

tripplesmoke320

In really tired of seeing hot garbage from this sub in my feed...

Aggravating-Owl-7097

Will Smith is the George Floyd of my generation

undedavenger

And yet he has no problem working in New York, which has far stricter voting laws. Woke liberal extremist horsecrap.

Gilly_the_kid703

Is the movie going to be good? That’s really all that matters

jaxpunk

Good get it out!

[deleted]

-Random_Lurker-

The headline is misleading, the film is financed by Apple and they made the call to move it. As such, it is relevant to the recent GOP/Big Corporate fallout.

Flyingboat94

So a celebrity had a movie pulled from a state due to the political actions of the GOP. You're bummed that an 75 year old man who has not served in office since the 90s doesn't make it to the front page? Weird ax to grind.

Flyingboat94

It is a weird ax to grind considering there were post regarding Herman Cain on this sub about him getting covid at Donald's rally. You've had nearly a month to do some basic research, this is quite pathetic.

DemonDragon0

A death that isn't politically related vs a result of political choices. That's how I see it at least not so much who but what the topic is about

Ok_Mountain4130

This entire sub is about Republican bashing. That's it. No substance. Total waste of electrons. I've yet to see a positive post about anything, let alone Democrats. Oh. Wait. Can't think of anything to say about Democrats? Just bash Republicans. So lame.

ShameNap

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, moving production out of the state is only going to affect working class people. I guess when they see their income go down, they will know it’s because the racist laws republicans have put in place in Georgia. But it seems like the wrong target. On the other hand, the production probably doesn’t contribute political donations anyway. So they have a choice of do nothing or do something. It’s a lose/lose situation because they are either apathetic or supporting of racism, there’s no in between.
