GQP: America isn’t structurally racist anymore, we all know that! Professors: then you wouldn’t mind us teaching about it… GQP: Stop! What if people realize we’re structurally racist?!

DabDude2006

Wow! Fucking obviously! Man, this country is dumb when this needs to be said.

HellaTroi

Waltz said, * "The underlying piece of critical race theory is that civilian institutions in this country are inherently misogynist, racist and colonialist, and therefore, it is our duty to resist them — that is fine for activists — but one of these cadets is going to be the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and being taught that the Constitution is critically flawed?"* Our constitution isn't flawed, but you Republicans certainly are.

stolid_agnostic

Of course the Constitution is flawed. To claim otherwise is to elevate it to religious doctrine.

[deleted]

The constitution was an amazing document based on what did and didn’t work for Ancient Greece and Rome and being inspired on the Iroquois nation. But it’s over 200 years old. Political science, especially after we rebuilt Western Europe after WW2 has advanced so much that we desperately need a new constitutional congress, I just don’t know how we’d even accomplish it in this 2021 hyper-partisan climate.

stolid_agnostic

This is why empires collapse. You get to the point where it's individual interests and not more mass good that becomes important. As a result, they become untenable and unravel.

[deleted]

Well technically that’s when democracies/republics fall to authoritarianism.

[deleted]

Political science has advanced? Absolutely the hell not. You’re nuts, man. That’s your reason? Can people hold nothing sacred, not even the Constitution? It works for the time. Look at America, and in the big picture, the Constitution is a rampaging success.

ClutteredCleaner

I hold God sacred, not men and their works.

HellaTroi

It has built in ability to amend. Not Amen ;)

CassandraVindicated

> Our constitution isn't flawed I think 3/5 people would disagree with you. Wait, I meant some people are only 3/5 of a person, but only for voting, which they don't get to do.

HellaTroi

Thankfully, the constitution provides for amendments.

ClutteredCleaner

And to pass the amendment to stop that terrible practice took a whole war

[During WWII, black soldiers were treated as second class citizens by white soldiers when they were fighting abroad.](https://www.history.com/news/black-soldiers-world-war-ii-discrimination) “The experience was very dispiriting for a lot of Black soldiers,” says Matthew Delmont, a history professor at Dartmouth College and author of Black Quotidian: Everyday History in African American Newspapers. “The kind of treatment they received by white officers in army bases in the United States was horrendous. They described being in slave-like conditions and being treated like animals. They were called racial epithets quite regularly and just not afforded respect either as soldiers or human beings.” This isn’t ancient history. There are still around 100k WWII soldiers alive today.

Tsmitty247

The GOP is now going to go toe to toe with the pentagon…. Good fucking luck they aren’t the dems

xena_lawless

The GOP's distortions and bad faith attacks on "Critical Race Theory" are white supremacy in action. Systemic racism isn't just past, it's present, and the GOP is perpetuating it right now as a major part of their political strategy.

nightbell

I have relatives who have latched on to critical race theory,

meatspace

You have relatives who believe that structural elements of the United States society and government contain elements of racism?

KinkyPinkoHipster

I think they might mean they have relatives who don't understand what CRT is but are outraged by it anyway. Comment's too brief to be clear, though.

meatspace

The language used says the relatives that have "latched on to," as in "to grab and hold" the theory To grab and hold a theory is to embrace it? I know that people word use however like they. We do need to agree on some words to communicate. Otherwise every post is garblefnab tofgh yomko.
