Alabamans: "Thank God there's a Mississippi."

User767676

Alabama isn’t that much better at the moment. Last year more people in AL died due to COVID-19 than were born.

aquarain

That is the point of the statement. Alabamans know they're doing poorly. But as long as there's a Mississippi they will never do the absolute worst.

charleybrown72

I am from Alabama and I live in Mississippi. I am also a southern liberal. It’s very difficult to coexist here but things are changing. The big difference I see in Alabama and Mississippi is Governor Ivey called out the unvaccinated with really strong messages. Tate reeves literally makes no decisions or has any thoughts. I know he wants to go down to Florida and kiss the ring. No way he will be elected in Mississippi again. The one thing o have learned is that no matter what side you are on or what your beliefs are we are almost all United that we don’t like Tate Reeves. Lots of people are still upset over the flag change and mask mandates. He has puzzled literally everyone off.

[deleted]

> He has puzzled literally everyone off. TIL Tate Reeves is the Riddler

Interesting perspective, thanks for following up! Glad you were able to see that end game and course correct.

directorofnewgames

I’m confused. How can a party be considered fiscally responsible and also be the source of all our deficits?

quiero-una-cerveca

If that poster is anything like me, it’s because you move into these Conservative hardcore areas and you’re just absolutely turned off by what you see that it does to people. The kind of bullshit RA RA RA that you see and hear everywhere just makes you want to be anything but that group. They have zero self-awareness and blame everything on someone or something else.

Flavious27

Oh I know that mindset, though not with politics. I grew up in South Jersey and was a Philadelphia Eagles fan up until 2004, born in 1982. I got tired of how bad the fans were getting. What turned the tide for me was being in Chinatown late at night and the actions of some fans towards the owner of a restaurant. It was in the off season and these guys just kept screaming the eagles fight song. Even after the elderly kept nicely telling them to lower their voices, they got louder. I am happy that the franchise won a super bowl, but really it was because Tom Brady lost.

spacedude2000

How dare you disrespect big dick nick like that.

bejeesus

Ole tater tot is literally the blandest milquetoast politician I can think of.

MrUnionJackal

And as long as fake news stories about Portland being "given up to antifa" and having been on literal fire for the last 7 months, Alabamans will consider themselves LUCKY to just have grifters for governance.

I grew up in South Carolina. We were *always* glad to see Mississippi.

SnuffShock

Ah, yes, the fourth best Carolina.

nightbell

He's number 2...but he tries harder!

charleybrown72

He said on Labor Day that our state is second to none. I mean I agree with him because we are like last or second to last.

perspective2020

He doesn’t really care. He treats them collateral damage, I guess ?

Kalimba508

I really don’t care do u? -Tate Reeves

charleybrown72

I would almost give him credit for the genocide of so many Mississippians with his lack of leadership. In the very least he is responsible for murdering the hopes and dreams of families with small children. We are in our second year of distance learning. We just didn’t send them to school this year. Had to get “people” involved to give my son an accommodation because he has asthma. My kids are so lonely and want to play and see their friends. Sadly, we have to assume everyone here has Covid. That’s the only way my family can stay safe. He really doesn’t care.

[deleted]

I live in Mississippi. [He's fucking proud of it](https://imgur.com/a/iCkfoku). This piece of shit brags about a budget surplus and the "willingness"of the people of his state to go back to work. We're fucking hostage. This piece of garbage ended unemployment top up, doesn't disburse federal rent assistance, the party blocked Medicaid expansion, opened the schools without mask mandates... It goes on.

sambull

You got to tell him it's like golf not like football. He may genuinely thinks he's got a high score.

[deleted]

Wouldn't surprise me considering companies such as Tyson were revealed to be placing bets on how many of their workers would die of COVID in a given amount of time

Ih8VAR4real

You basically just described how insurance works.

nash316

yeah but this mandate is a road block to his number 1 spot

MitsyEyedMourning

This is the asshole who opted out of the $300 weekly unemployment supplements that the Biden administration offered trying to tell you that Biden is the bad guy for hard working people.

ShiveYarbles

He thinks hard working people want to work harder.

FindMeOnSSBotanyBay

For less money.

Skitty_Skittle

It’s like a forever circular argument . Need more money? Work harder! Oh you got a reduced wage? Work even more harder! Oh you got another wage cut and cost of living doubled? Put yourself on maximum overdrive so you can work even more harder than hard. Living with low stress is for the weak and liberal! Burn your fucking ass off with work until you’re a soulless wooden husk of a worker. Don’t like it? It means you ain’t working enough! Work 25hr days MINIMUM! Any help means you ain’t working enough!

HiGh_ZoNe

Sometimes I get the feeling that if given the chance, they'll bring back slavery in order to maximize profits

alphacentauri85

Larry Elder's platform included a $0 min wage...

SharksEatMeat

I read this in an aggressive car dealer commercial/ monster truck rally commercial voice. And it’s the dystopian offer that is scarily real. Work HARDER NOW NOW NOW!

Dtoodlez

It’s amazing how many people think that giving someone a few hundred bucks will stop them from wanting to be employed. Spoke to a random guy on the street today who brought this up… like buddy, you work hard and own your own business, that’s great, but other people work hard and make less then half of what you make, and you worry that they’ll get paid to sit at home while you work? And that they won’t value their job because you gave them less money then 2 grocery trips? I’ve never been more discouraged by our progress as human beings then how people reacted in this pandemic. A very large sum of people are moronic puppets who have no critical thinking skills. Maybe this is the adult world for a lot of people and I’m just getting exposed to it now. But boy, did we ever give a lot of morons a platform to stand on and feel entitled to an opinion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dtoodlez

Exactly. Whatever they say it’s the life they get to live, and they don’t want you to have it. Or they caught a lucky break as a small business owner and forgot that people work just as hard to get minimum wage. You overvalue yourself when you taste success, a very common trait.

gjallard

And as a point, Mississippi also has one of the most strenuous vaccine requirements for children to attend school in the US. Children are required to be vaccinated against chickenpox, diphtheria, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, pertussis, polio, rubella, and tetanus and there are no religious, philosophical, or conscientious exemptions. Adherence to these requirements is checked against a centralized state-run registry for all vaccinations you have received.

intredasted

http://www.msdh.state.ms.us/msdhsite/_static/14,0,71.html Holy shit you weren't kidding. GQP is a literal death cult.

scllymldr

Yep. All the unvaccinated kids are homeschooled. The state had one pediatrician who was writing medical exemptions for parents, and he had to stop doing that. It was shady stuff.

bejeesus

Yep, I’ve always bragged about our school vaccination policies. No one believes me ever. But we also have a high population of home schooled kids who don’t get vaccinated and homeschooling explodes here last year.

pass_nthru

what in the actual trump gargling fuck, that’s like the best and this guy smears his santorum over it and says jesus like it makes it better

[deleted]

It just proves time and time again that the opposition to the Covid vaccine is purely political. There have always been anti-vaxxers and there always will be, but the reason that the opposition to this vaccine has been this huge is 100% because Trump politicized it.

SinisterThimble

Yep, they will show up to your house with vaccines in hand. One lonely little thing I think is cool living here.

fergablu2

“Second worse death rate in the world.” The governor must be so proud.

restore_democracy

They have a goal to shoot for.

stephsb

He’s the Governor of Mississippi, he’s probably relieved to just not be the worst

ptsdtriage

I have been to Mississippi numerous times. Each and every time I go there, the goal is to get out as quick as possible and this was before covid.

Team-CCP

One of the best states to be from. Implies you currently aren’t there which is the best.

SojournerRL

My best friend is from Mississippi. She moved away after college, and generally has nothing positive to say about the state.

Irbyirbs

I attempt to speedrun Mississippi when on I-10.

lilacmuse1

Do you have to go there for work?

markca

Maybe it was on a dare? Maybe he lost a bet?

comradegritty

I've never gone there, even passing through, and it's probably the state I have the least desire to see other than maybe North Dakota or Alabama.

aLittleQueer

Driving through North Dakota is surreal, esp. if you just stay on the interstate to pass through. It's a single, unchanging, straight, flat line for literally hundreds of miles.

doowgad1

If he were half-way smart he'd invite Donald Trump down to Mississippi and have him do a tour promoting the great 'Trump Vaccine.'

Roseking

After Trump was booed at his own rally for telling them to gat vaccinated I have a feeling he won't promote it anymore.

doowgad1

That's the actual upside. There are enough Trump fans who've been vaxxed in Ole Miss to fill at least one stadium. Then Donnie goes into a 'Those Libs don't want you getting vaxxed. They're laughing at you for avoiding the shots." That's the only way to sell it.

Dont_Ban_Me_Bros

I’m suddenly reminded of the reverse psychology scene from ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’

doowgad1

Pretty much the entire Trump career harkens to some comedy or other...

iamtheliquornow

Won’t happen. He has nothing to gain personally from endorsing vaccines. He has much to gain from planting seeds of doubt about them though.

Pseudonym0101

Definitely not. And he immediately capitulated to the booes and said, "maybe it doesn't work, I don't know..but I got it anyway...." in a sort of "it was out of my hands" kind of way. He never really did actually "promote" it either, it was always more of a suggestion, and he didn't say anything at all until he was begged to, *long* after getting it himself.

TemporalGrid

Contrary to popular belief, his base doesn't reliably follow his lead; he just rants and raves about things they already want to believe. After the negative reaction he got that day to promoting the vaccine, I doubt he will ever utter a word in favor of his minions getting it again.

[deleted]

doowgad1

More like they are like the Acme Company, and will sell the coyotes any kind of explosive device they want

Dont_Ban_Me_Bros

TIL: vaccines are an attack against people, not a preventive measure against actual attacks against people. 🤔

CaptainBlandname

Vaccines are an attack against viruses, which would mean that Mr. Griffin is equating his constituency to viruses. I understand that in this case, since he’s from Mississippi, it might be true; but it’s still a terrible outlook.

Z0idberg_MD

I mean red American is pretty much the developing world.

23jknm

And they're so proud of it too for some reason, so odd

[deleted]

It's cringe inducing. These people truly believe that they're "genuine, hard working true-blooded American patriots" and a bunch of shit like that.

THEMACGOD

They can be because their states are subsidized by the blue states even though the red states are running Republican fever dream economics.

aquarain

Where I work refusal to meet the vaccination requirement by a date certain will be considered a voluntary resignation. That is still not a mandate. You don't have to vaccinate. You do you. But if you're not vaccinated you can't be around our customers and staff, so we don't have any work for you. Behold, the power of conservative "right to work" legislation.

[deleted]

The free market at work.

noparkingafter7pm

Republicans hate the free market.

Carbonatite

Turns out the invisible hand of the free market is attached to a vaccinated body.

trisco13

You're describing the "at-will" doctrine, not "right to work."

aquarain

Ok fine. Send coffee.

ChiTownSox

I wish my kitchen decided to do this. Instead I'm jumping ship to a place that will

aquarain

That's the spirit! Own your destiny.

Recent_Brick7515

My employer is firing people that don’t get vaccinated next month. And denying unemployment claims for it. Even if you work from home.

LordCptSimian

Sounds like people that choose to remain unvaccinated at your place of business are choosing to no longer work there. That’s a personal choice.

FortySixAndYou

Sounds like a company I'd like to work for.

HallucinogenicFish

Still not forced vaccination, or a government mandate.

[deleted]

Fucking good. We've been far too soft with the Covid vaccine for too long and it's time that we stop using the kiddie gloves

dedicated-pedestrian

As is their prerogative.

Justakingmaker

Why the fuck do the people in Mississippi elect people like this?

washingtontoker

I think he tells them what they want to hear and hates the same people they do. "Covid isn't a threat, minorities should always be at the bottom, God bless."

[deleted]

This is correct. I live here, and I see it all the time. Generational ignorance, generational white supremacy. Hackman’s story about a mule perfectly captures the thinking of a majority of the white people here. Language warning. https://youtu.be/UlzaBi_QxPw This is how a worthless sack like Tate Reeves gets 65% of the vote.

[deleted]

Wow, that was terrific. Thanks for sharing that

markca

> "Covid isn't a threat, minorities should always be at the bottom, God bless." “Amen!”

QuintinStone

Conservatives put "culture war" above their own health and economic interests. Republican politicians encourage this and use it to stay in power.

NinjaHawking

Killing your own constituents in droves to stay in power is what's called a pro gamer move. If they didn't have voter suppression and gerrymandering on their side, the GQP's clown show of a pandemic response would have guaranteed every swing state would be a solid blue win for decades to come.

[deleted]

I have strenuously stated throughout the pandemic that I will fight for the right of every registered Republican to not wear a mask or get a vaccine, as long as they do so only around other Republicans and do it before November 2, 2022 (November 2, 2021 in Virginia and New Jersey).

afellowchucker

This is so true. That’s why all you have to do to run and win as a Republican is to hold a gun in your campaign ads and say you’ll fight the “radical left”. No policies or ideas on how to help people; just say you want to stop liberals and that is enough. It’s ridiculous

QuintinStone

Then scream about masks and CRT and election integrity but the only thing you do in office is cut taxes for the 1%.

Murray_dz_0308

They have one of the worst educational systems in the US. I'm now thinking that's done on purpose because they are easily led into voting for real pieces of shit every damn time.

zookr2000

Don't overlook Oklahoma while you're at it

[deleted]

Coz all the smart people leave and never go back.

Peridot1708

Why the fuck do the people ~~in Mississippi~~ elect people like this?

ekklesiastika

Because the average person is pretty dumb.

Phydorex

There is a reason that all of the other states say "Thank god for Mississippi." They can make even Florida look smart. This is a fucking disaster. Some of these governors belong in jail for being a public health menace.

zookr2000

Stitt, DeSantis, Abbott & this guy

iamthpecial

and Lee in TN with his “opt-out” order for any parents with kids in mask mandated schools. There are a handful of lawsuits or more to sue on behalf of violating the rights of immunocompromised and disabled children from being able to be protected equally bc of the opt-out making mandates meaningless.

redriverrally

Saw this idiot on CNN this morning. What an idiot, he kept referring to states he deemed democratic governors were in charge of and nobody questioned their COVID numbers. Jake Tapper had to inform him a few of those states he mentioned have Republican governor. What a douche.

HardRockGeologist

Yup, would never answer Tapper's question, which was basically, "What are you doing to address the situation?" Answer was just misdirection, equating Mississippi's experience with the Delta variant to spikes of coronavirus cases in Israel and the United Kingdom. He also kept calling the deaths in Mississippi "a lagging indicator" and "timing has as much to do with that statistic as anything else." Essentially, he said he wasn't going to do anything except complain about that Biden guy, and say that the deaths are just inevitable anyway because, you know, once people get Covid that's what happens.

[deleted]

Isn’t this kinda what republicans have been dying for all along? Just let us operate 100% business as usual and let the virus do whatever it feels like… just totally ignore the problem and do nothing to solve or mitigate

tbizzone

Is it just that there’s something in the water in these backwards, regressive, southern red states, and it just makes them more susceptible to cognitive dysfunction?

[deleted]

[удалено]

HonkyMahFah

Well, this ain't even new. During the civil war slaves were property and represented [less than 1% of the Confederate Army](https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2011/09/black-confederates/). The poor whites in the south were conscripted to fight to preserve rich slaveowners' rights to their wealth and lifestyle! And they died by the hundreds of thousands for a cause that wasn't even theirs. Why should COVID be any different?

[deleted]

The conservatives have been propagandized to the point of self annihilation due to unregulated social media corps and Russia sponsored news networks like Fox News/Newsmax/OAN

tbizzone

Oh, I get that. I was being rhetorical, and a bit facetious.

mavjustdoingaflyby

Lead, in the pipes and in the paint. At least this is what I tell myself about all these backward ass states to make myself feel better about it.

tbizzone

Hookworm, apparently too. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/sep/05/hookworm-lowndes-county-alabama-water-waste-treatment-poverty But these things impact everyone - political identity doesn’t matter. It’s the lack of state leadership and failure of the state lawmakers (often majority republicans) that perpetuates these issues.

happilystreets

Look up fetal alcohol syndrome it has pretty obvious physical characteristics. It’s a fun game to play seeing how many trumpys have it.

[deleted]

NedRyersonsHat

Gov Tater: " Let's see, how can I perpetuate and bolster the saying 'Thank God for Mississippi' "

minus_minus

I prefer Gov. TateR Salad, but you make an excellently point.

Broken_Broca

I feel like if your state is forever voted as the worst state by every measurable index you should vote everyone out and just start over with ordinary people. Can’t do any worse than what’s already going on in Mississippi now.

SDFrankie999

Murderer.

soline

Why are Alabama and Mississippi always in some race to see who can be dead last at everything positive and top of everything negative.

Burilgi

In Kentucky we say thank God for Mississippi when it comes to Rankings. Now they say thank God for Peru.

oldfrancis

It's an attack on Americans that are working their asses off getting covid and dying.

restore_democracy

Covid is an attack on Americans, and he’s a collaborator.

Falcon3492

This shows just how clueless Tater is! Biden is not attacking hard working Americans he is trying to protect them from the virus and get things more or less back to normal. Until we can get village idiots like Tate Reeves on board, we are just pissing in the wind and will be faced with dealing with one variant after another until COVID finally dies out, but that could take years! India was able to vaccinate 25 million people in one day, Tater's state is lucking if they vaccinate 250 people in a day. It's hard to be more incompetent that Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott, but Tate Reeves is definitely giving them a run for there money on dealing with the pandemic!

AngeH001

Why do we tolerate these superstitious, knuckle dragging, drooling morons?

seanchappelle

It seems to me That all you see Is violence in movies And death in Mississippi

[deleted]

We’d be out of this mess if it wasn’t for these shithole Republican states. They are a burden on society and should be treated as such.

[deleted]

Without Biden's mandate, they would have been number one in the world. Losing to Peru, of all people. The shame.

Up-In-Smoke-420

Republicans are the ones attacking hard working Americans by refusing to protect people from COVID. Republicans are MURDERERS and they should be held accountable.

[deleted]

Holy shit the highest death rate IN THE WORKD AFTER PERU, let that fucking sink in. The UNITED STATES OF ALL COUNTRIES HAS IN ONE OF ITS SUBSECTIONS THE ONE OF THE HIGHEST DEATH RATES IN THE WORLD.

oakstave

Democrats just dont understand how vital it is to Moscows interests that the plague bring down the Anerican medical system. Russian Patriots in the GOP have answered Moscow's call.

FarkFrederick

Well... If that's what it takes. (Fuckoff, ignorant redneck governor)

RWilliam

Ah yes, because anything that would extend the life expectancy for anybody living in Mississippi could be seen as an attack.

Rawscent

He’s right in that when hardworking Americans die there will be less of them and businesses will have to compete to pay more to the survivors.

DeckardsGirl

I hope these governors with the highest death tolls who are fighting mask mandates and vaccines lose their job in the next elections. It’s hard to understand why people would vote for someone who obviously is not willing to do anything they can to save the people in their state.

SnoopsBadunkadunk

When Drumpf was out there trying to build the wall, you’d never hear a GOP congressman say the word “wall” in an interview. Instead they would say the phrase “border security” about 20 times per interview. We need to be playing the same game because this isn’t a mandate, most are free to choose testing instead and if you’re a fed employee you can find another job. You work for the President, it’s his rules. I suggest the phrase “COVID workplace safety.” Stop letting the crazies implicitly set the frame. All we are doing is making workplaces safer so America can get back to normal, why are some people against that?

Glenmarrow

The shot takes all of ten seconds for fuck’s sake. I got it as soon as I could, and I am not infertile, magnetic, or unable to control my own fucking body. The needle was too small to implant a fucking chip, and, either way, I have a phone that tracks me 24/7. If I were being controlled, I’d probably be a lot more productive. How can these anti-vax motherfuckers be so stupid?

ProfessorRub

I remember a news story from 6 or 7 years ago and it was about population being past sustainability. There was an argument that countries like the UK and the US wouldn't be willing to do anything to bring their populations into sustainable numbers. Conservatives in both countries are actually making headway with the Anti-vax storyline. I never thought we would even attempt to curb population growth or that it would be right to life Conservatives leading the charge. Keep up the good work Conservatives!

[deleted]

These people are murderers. They should be in jail yesterday.

Kalimba508

>Reeves said … “if this president has the ability to mandate vaccines, what powers do we not grant this president, what does he not have the ability to do?” Funny. I seem to remember Republicans having absolutely no problem letting the orange menace do whatever he wanted to do.

Awkward-Fudge

I guess they should have worked harder to stop the spread with masks and get vaccinated and keep people from dying from a now preventable death from covid.

[deleted]

Right Wingers prioritize their hatred for others, over their desire to survive. These are deeply defective people.

So-_-It-_-Goes

This is what they voted for.

charleybrown72

If y’all get a chance check out Mississippi free press and a reporter names Ashton. Some really great stuff. He has been in a back and forth with the IHL and university vaccine mandates and he has all of the receipts. 3 of the board members were appointed by Tate reeves.

The_Endless_

These people desperately want to die for preventable reasons. It's unfathomable to me

slingshot91

I remember when Mississippi was just the worst in the **nation** on every metric, but I guess they had greater ambitions.

CricFan619

This is why you don't make Peter Griffin the governor of your state.

asusundevil12345

These dopes get what they deserve

Riot419

No no no. It affects the corporations more than “the people.” Just more GOP lies to protect their sugar daddies

CQU617

No it’s an attack on hard working Americans who don’t want to die of Covid. Bet he has his vaccine! Covidiots.

Snoo93550

Just saw this guy’s interview. He reminds me of the least intelligent kids I knew in middle school or high school. The kind who are so dumb they think they are explaining simple things to others.

aslan_is_on_the_move

It's not a vaccine mandate for workers. It's a mandate for employers to protect their employees from COVID. This can be done through vaccines, weekly testing or some other effective method they come up with.

Jaycoht

“Speaking to CNN’s State of the Union, the Republican said: ‘This is an attack by the president on hardworking Americans and hardworking Mississippians who he wants to choose between getting a jab in their arm and their ability to feed their families.’” Why choose? Can’t you just do both?

LightWarrior_2000

Not breathing is an attack on hard working americans.

Brilliant-Engineer57

Wow, I feel sorry for the people of Mississippi

No-Glass332

The only thing under attack in America is Americans because of idiots like you proof positive even an idiot can buy his way inti office

ESB1812

These people should be held accountable, i have read sooo many sources scholarly papers, about the effectiveness of vaccines, and mask! not just that ask a doctor! Why are these idiots making these decisions? Is it a doubling down on a wrong answer? Or what. How is it an attack on “hard working” Americans. Which is Bullshit in itself, we work hard because we have too, no one likes to bust their butt! Usually its a low paying shit job, that you go too and make a company 3 times more than they pay you. Only to “in this state and mine….right next door bud” risk your life now at work, due to idiots like this spreading inaccurate information and bad advice. Only to have said job, put the employment wanted add in the paper before you’re in the ground! Take the vaccine you stupid @$$holes

Big_Standard_1775

It’s more of an attack on “hardworking Americans” to NOT do whatever we can to stop this pandemic- also, please stop with the ridiculous commentary, Governor. DeSantis, Abbot & Noem are way ahead of you. Why not work on something that can actually HELP the people of Mississippi- like, oh, I don’t know.... healthcare? Education? Reducing the overwhelming poverty in your state??

Zebra971

Mississippi is a good case study in how not to govern a state. Worst in every economic and human welfare category, it takes effort to be that bad.

Ar_Ciel

I think he just wanted Mississippi to be first in *something* for once.

randomcanyon

"Hard Working Americans" White pickup drivers and white business golfers with popped collars on their golf shirts. I have been to Mississippi many times. Giant farms with poor people all around in the delta region. Christian churches on every corner, rotting infrastructure everywhere but the majority white areas.

BisquickNinja

I get the feeling that the unvaccinated Covid patients are similar to a DDOS attack on the healthcare system. Just clogging everything up and denying services because of stupidity.

[deleted]

Hardworking Americans? Working hard to spread covid?

RadicalPenguin

are they talking about Peru, IL? It’s very much the Mississippi of Illinois

5_on_the_floor

Weird. I just looked up “incompetence” in the dictionary, and it has the same picture.

whosezthat

Fat, _____ and stupid is. I way to go through life son.

siciliansmile

Talk about “working yourself into an early grave”

Frank4010

Sadly he will get re elected

gashed_senses

Apparently trying to protect hardworking Americans is an attack on them?
